League Of Ascending Immortals [OATH]
(edited by Arcadio.6875)
Arguing semantics. It’s already been explained many times what people want for this game. No need to keep bringing up problems from other games that people aren’t asking for here. The devs used the word raids in the CDI while also explaining it wouldn’t be implemented the exact same way as other games here if they were to do it.

I love how people are bringing up WoW as if GW2 can’t have anything that WoW has (ignoring that it already does!). GW2 already deviates from WoW in key ways that will never be changed such as not having a holy trinity. Not having instanced raids is not a good way for GW2 to be different from WoW. That’s just content GW2 doesn’t have that could be enjoyed by many. People asking for instanced raids to be introduced to GW2 do so because they like this game and its combat. Telling them to play WoW is nonsensical.
Guild Alliances (with alliance chat) was a highly requested feature in a CDI a few months ago. IIRC, even one of the devs listed it on their top list of guild features they wanted in the game.
Edit: Yep
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/cdi/CDI-Guilds-Logistics-and-QOL/page/16#post4422645
It was his top feature and was also the feature with the most amount of votes in that topic.

No. There’s no racial stat bonuses. There are a few racial skills which aren’t that great and aren’t usable in structured pvp.
Yeah I’m getting that too.
Community is the main reason I play MMOs. Otherwise I’d play a single player RPG instead.
Right now I’m working on getting to level 50 Fractals and rank 80 in PVP. Once I’m done with those, I don’t know what else to work on since almost all my other goals have been achieved. I’d still log on to do guild stuff.
Edit: I just realized the tc is in my guild, lol!
(edited by Arcadio.6875)
1. Legendaries have the same stats as ascended, but you can change the stat type(zerker, knights, carrion, etc.).
2. It’s worth it if you really want it and not worth it if you don’t lol. Eternity has no advantages over Twilight/Sunrise.
Yeah, I am the leader of a PvX guild and many new players are confused about servers. They pick whichever one sounds nice and expect to only play with people on the same server. So when we talk about WvW and being on different servers, they are surprised that guilds can be cross server. Usually they don’t even know what server they are on. So when our advertisement message says “WvW(FA)” they either have no idea what that means and are joining us because of the other stuff we do or they assume they are on FA because they don’t know PvE is megaserver.
It’s a minor problem having to explain it to new players, but it would be nice if either server selection came later rather than at the beginning or if the game was clear about servers when new players pick them.
Guilds can be so different. What’s generally expected is that you follow the rules and you can only know the rules if you ask lol. Make sure to read their message of the day as that can contain important info.
Maybe they would have fit better as a heavy class, but it’s too late to change it now. I’m sure they can come up with a new heavy class if they tried.
You are asserting there is a problem when many will disagree that one exists. I feel a connection to my main character’s class. I’ve leveled all the classes to 80. They all play differently with different strengths and weaknesses and different things to consider.
The real problem here is people not being able to get away from the traditional mmo way of thinking. They want their class to be dps or tank or healer/support. That’s not how this game works and I am glad for it. All classes contribute damage AND support. If you are not contributing support to your group, you are likely being carried. The difference between classes is how they contribute damage and what support they contribute. If you want classes to primarily contribute one or the other, there are other games for that.
Also, the zerker meta isn’t a problem. Zerker gear isn’t needed unless you want to optimize your build. Other gear sets are viable in pve.
2) How to find a WvW guild? If you go out into WvW, unless you catch it at the right time you will not find a guild active out there, just a bunch of PUG players from different guilds like me. We need WvW server based forums to allow us to post in. They should be tied to the account so there can be no cross spying. That way you can post you want to join a WvW guild, plan attacks but members from other servers can access the forums. It should be simple as ANET know our accounts and which server our account is tied to.
What server are you on? Most (if not all) servers have set up community forums for their server. Usually they will validate you to make sure you are on their server by meeting you in WvW. As for finding guilds in WvW, many guilds run without tags so you may not notice them even though they are on. Ask in map chat if there are any guilds recruiting. If there are no guilds on when you play, it could be that you are playing during off hours.
You have to keep in mind that megaservers were implemented in April. WvW was designed with servers in mind. Communities formed on each server allowing each server to organize their WvW efforts. Destroying every WvW community could have possibly killed the game mode. Servers had to be kept for WvW.
The best advice I can give is to run dungeons with your guildmates. 1800 gems seems like a lot, but it’s less than 300 gold last time I checked which isn’t too difficult to achieve in pve.
There is no dedicated healer class. All classes contribute both damage and support. You may like guardian I guess. Try that.
I’d like to see those npcs in the back (add ranger lol) run meta builds so we can test our builds against things we’d be likely to see in matches. While the AI won’t be better than fighting a real person, it would still be better than the complete pushovers they are now.
Perhaps HotM being very convenient would lead to PvErs crowding the map. There would be more instances with less PvPers per map. Anyone looking to talk about PvP or form teams would have a smaller audience.
That said, a lot of people don’t know that you can use WvW/PvP as a free way to get into LA. Even more people don’t know their home server’s Borderlands have crafting stations. So maybe there won’t be that many people who would use HotM as a new LA.
Just to add to the above, there are no racial stat bonuses either.
Your teammate made the same topic lol.

Besides the NA/EU split, servers only matter for WvW which is large scale PvP.
Been playing since beta and didn’t do dungeons until earlier this year because of all I heard about toxic elitists. Then a friend I brought into the game wanted to do dungeons dragged me into doing them. Dungeon community turns out to be very nice and helpful. Now I’ve ran dungeons many hundreds of times. Wish I started sooner.
Are you guys, (and is Arenanet) opposed to merging two less-populated servers to garner more WvW players/coverage?
Well, you can’t just merge 2 servers since the number of servers has to be a multiple of 3. You’d have to axe an entire tier. People would be upset if their community is broken up. In the long term though, it may be needed if overall WvW population continues to decline and people who wish to keep on playing decide to leave those tiers for more populated servers. Anyone left would have no one to play with.
…or is SoR doomed to the gutter for the remainder of Guild Wars 2?
It can always end up being the next bandwagon server lol.
Haven’t had people raging on mapchat/whisper in unranked matches. Really is a good atmosphere to just play the game
If you lose becouse your oppenent is stronger you lose also in a conquest map , having a different kind of game for me is better, it is in any case a bigger opportunity to have fun. I really don’ understand which is the problem in maintaining it also in ranked queue. It is something different …
Lost 500 – 0 in CY. Next match was against same team but in conquest. We won.
Until they implement the ability to save different builds so you can easily switch between them, I can’t agree with CY being in the same queue as conquest maps. Even then it should be in a different queue.
Such baloney.
Anyone can talk stuff. But without evidence, its nothing but a bunch of baloney. Its not hard to screenshot, its just 1 button and it nicely goes to a convenient location on your computer.
All these people making up outrageous claims. You know… I’ve yet to see a screenshot of a 0 – 500 courtyard game.
You’re such a bad troll lol.
Until they implement the ability to save different builds so you can easily switch between them, I can’t agree with CY being in the same queue as conquest maps. Even then it should be in a different queue.
No one is forcing you to spec only for conquest mode, you could use a balanced build.
A “balanced” build wouldn’t be better at conquest than a build specifically designed for conquest. Likewise, it wouldn’t be better at tdm than one designed for that either. It would be preferable to have two builds for two very different content. Without a way to save builds, it is a hassle to switch to a tdm build in the minute upon learning your next match is tdm and not conquest.
A build balanced for both also doesn’t make sense since most of your matches will be conquest.
If you lose becouse your oppenent is stronger you lose also in a conquest map , having a different kind of game for me is better, it is in any case a bigger opportunity to have fun. I really don’ understand which is the problem in maintaining it also in ranked queue. It is something different …

Dungeon selling and pinging gear have been around for some time now. If they were gonna ruin GW2, it would have already happened.
Start your own lfg or join another one. Alternatively, join an active guild that does dungeons.
Will this end the phenomenon where some of your teammates go into the map after the queue pops to find out what classes the other team is playing and then switch classes to counter the other team? How about when people switch characters mid-match.
Talking it over with my guild, unranked arena is going to take away from hotjoin, not ranked. Some of our players want to get into pvp, but don’t want the pressure of letting the team down. At the same time, they know their time playing hotjoin isn’t helping much. We plan to use unranked as a way to get more of the guild into pvp. When they are more comfortable with how pvp works, we can have them on our team for ranked matches.
So I’d say unranked was definitely needed.
No. You can queue up for unranked with your party.
Solo arena is gone now. Team arena now attempts to match solo players against other solo players. If a team of solo players goes up against a pre-made team, they won’t lose too much ranking if they lose and they will gain more if they win.
While there is no new pvp mode or map, I gotta say this is a very good update. Unranked Arena was needed and I’m glad it’s coming.
https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/announcing-improvements-to-pvp-and-the-ladder-test-season/
With the overhaul to matchmaking complete, we’re now ready to begin restructuring PvP for the future. PvP is now grouped into three areas: “Practice” in hot-join, “Play” in unranked arenas, and “Compete” in ranked arenas. This change will help guide players through the stages of development toward high-level competition.
.
.
.Unranked Arena will give players a safe place to play solo or with their friends in any sized group without having to worry about affecting their ladder standing. If you’re ready to move on from hot-join, or if you want to test out new builds, warm up a new profession, try out new teammates, or just chill out and have fun in a structured PvP environment, Unranked Arena is for you. Unranked Arena also takes advantage of all the new matchmaking changes, so you will tend to be grouped together with players of your skill level and group size.
The update will include a host of other improvements to PvP. We’ve overhauled the entire flow of how a player enters PvP. Rosters are a thing of the past; now you can simply join with your party. Players now have to confirm before entering a match, so 4v5 situations can no longer occur from people going AFK. For players who do drop out, the Dishonor system has also been improved to better handle bad behavior.
Never stepping into hotjoin again lol.
Geodes, crests, WvW tickets -> wallet
Black lion ticket scraps have no use other than to trade 10 of them in for a full ticket. Instead of having things cost 1/3/5/7 tickets, have them cost 10/30/50/70 scraps. So… scraps -> wallet.
A minor thing, but transmutation charges should go straight to the wallet instead of having to click on them.
The wallet having a ton of currencies is not an issue. Currencies that take up space is.
Join a dedicated WvW guild if you haven’t already and keep on playing. If you’re not interested in getting Ascended gear, then there is no more vertical progression. I guess you can level up more classes to 80 and equip them with Exotics so you have more choices when you do WvW.
Some of the Season 1 rewards can be purchased at the Laurel vendor.
Season 2 is permanent.
Let me sell these, I cannot even use them, I have all the professions maxed out.
Allow people to list Tomes of Knowledge on the trading post.
You need 5 more tomes for when they add 3 new classes!
LOL
Hard to tell when the dye is dark and the picture is dark lol.
I would absoutely love to add you tag name to my friends list(Once I learn how). I’m astounded at how friendly this community is. I guess the game was programmed in a way that made seeing other players in your quest area not a threat of a nuissance, but a blessing. It really shows on how friendly the players are. I’m looking forward to playing with you, and everyone else that’s willing to join!
Yep, best MMO community easily and the game was designed so this would be the case. Don’t think there aren’t jerks in the game, but they are nowhere near as big a problem as in other online games. As in real life, “Don’t start nothing won’t be nothing.”
Something I’ve found interesting when browsing an FFXIV forum. People apparently want you to watch a dungeon video before doing a dungeon for the first time. In this game, people will explain to you how to do it in the game. Just don’t join a group labeled for experienced people if you aren’t one. Respect the looking for group descriptions!
You have 5 character slots to use and you can always delete a character you don’t like to make room for another class. Definitely experiment.
Funny thing, I just made a necro a couple of days ago as my 8th character (you buy character slots in the gem store and you can convert the in-game currency to gems instead of using real money). I haven’t been able to experiment with it, but my friends who have a necro all say it is fun.
There was a point in time that I decided to play World of Warcraft, but I made it to about Level Sixty, and never really played it again. It just wasn’t my cup of tea, which really came as a surprise to me because I love games like that. But recently, no, I haven’t been playing any MMO’s, just A whole lot of Skyrim!
Okay, that’s a good sign that you might like this game. You aren’t stuck on the raiding + gear treadmill endgame mindset that many who came from WoW-type games have.
Much like Skyrim, GW2 is about making your own goals and doing what you enjoy. Do you want to make a Legendary Weapon? Cool, go for it! If you don’t, it’s okay. There are a ton of goals you can set for yourself. After you get used to playing, be sure to find a guild that has a similar mindset as you. Makes the game a lot more fun.
Did you come from WoW or a WoW-clone? It’s helpful to know this since people who came from those kind of games have a harder time adjusting to GW2 so explanations on what makes GW2 different and why it is different become necessary.
Anyway, race/class combos don’t matter. You can pick any race to go with any class. No gender differences either. Same stats. Make what you want and go out into the world and explore. For your first and maybe second characters, don’t rush to max level.
The 3 million figure for FFXIV is registered players, not active subscriptions. Actually it’s 2.3 million outside of China as of mid August and 1 million pre-orders for the Chinese release also mid August. It probably reached 4 million since then. But again, not active subscriptions.
That said, even if active subscriptions are much lower than registered players, they still have a steady revenue stream going.
Here is an interview where the director explains why he thinks sub fees are better for the game.
http://venturebeat.com/2013/06/17/final-fantasy-online-director-defends-monthly-subscriptions-in-the-golden-age-of-free-to-play-exclusive/
With a subscription base, if you get maybe 400,000 members, you know that you’re going to have the money from that monthly subscription for the next month. You also know that you’re going to have 400,000 this month, and it’s not going to go down to 200,000 users next month. That type of jump really doesn’t happen with a subscription model. So you know that you’re going to have a steady income. Because you have a steady income, you can plan ahead further. You can make sure you have staff members to create that new content. By creating new content, you’re making the players happy. If they know this game is going to keep creating new content, they’ll continue to pay their monthly subscription fees. So rather than going for the huge $100-million-a-month hit that you might get with the free-to-play model, having that steady income allows us to provide a better product to the players.
There’s more, but I didn’t want to quote the whole article.
I don’t want GW2 to have a sub fee of course. I think they should have gone with regular expansions. It would have had a similar effect as having a sub fee. Players would know Anet is continuing to develop new content so they are more comfortable sticking around. Maybe between expansions, they’d throw some money into the gem store. Living World would have a place in this. Have LW seasons between expansions to keep players interested. The problem is that as far as we know, we are only getting LW and those content updates are smaller than the community wants.
Pre-ordered for $60. Since then I’ve only purchased $10 in gems and that was only because there was a sale for character slots and I had just bought a precursor so I didn’t have much gold. A little over 2 years and only $10 after the initial purchase. If they released an expansion every year for $60, I would be happy to buy.
Optional subscription? No.

I play ffxiv
It’s OK, we’ve all made mistakes.
lol! I haven’t played the game, but I’ve watched a bunch of videos of it. Combat looks so boring compared to GW2. That said, if it went F2P or B2P, I’d play it to go through the story since I’m a fan of the single player FF games (except XIII). GW2 would still be my main MMO though.
GW2 doesn’t need a console release. From what I can tell, it seems the vast majority of FFXIV players are on PC. I can’t see a console GW2 bringing in enough players to justify the effort to port the game to consoles.
New trait system is terrible. If anything, it’s worse on new players. How can they learn about the trait system if they don’t have any traits to use lol? Old way allowed experimentation.
Other changes are annoying and when I eventually make my necro (already have the other 7), I will bypass the NPE with the level 20 scroll and some tomes.
If I had the power to reverse one of the changes, it would be the new trait system.
Definitely in favor of Anet developing the raid with a set size group in mind. If your guild doesn’t have enough people, then you do what guilds already do now, you get the remaining players you need from the lfg. Put in your lfg description that anyone joining needs to be experienced and needs to join you on ts3 (or whatever else you use). If they don’t cooperate then you can always kick them and get someone else.
You can always move to a higher level area. More map completion will get done which means more xp. Sticking around low level areas for a long time isn’t an efficient way of leveling and it won’t teach you how to use your class or deal with higher level content. With the way maps are labeled with what level they are, I don’t think anyone would be compelled to stick around a low level area for too long. They would just get bored.
The level scaling allows players to return to lower level maps and enjoy content there. It isn’t meant for people to stay there forever lol.
There’s still a grind for gear in PvE, and when you get to the end, you really have nowhere to go with it…since you’re wearing your full BiS set and unless you grind high-level fractals, nothing is really challenging anymore. If you ask me, having them release raids (which IMO should be structured like missions in the original Guild Wars to some extent) would be a really good thing. The idea being, you can get started in the “raids” with level 80 dungeon gear, and as you progress, you start to need more and more of the higher-end PvE gear and better coordination amongst teammates. That being said, raid participation should help you earn some of that gear so you’re not forced to grind out all three paths of whatever level 80 dungeon drops your set of choice, etc etc.
Crafting ascended gear is definitely a grind, but it’s a grind you can completely skip if you don’t care about high level Fractals or you can minimize greatly if you put the bulk of your AR into the trinkets which are much easier to get than weapons/armor. You can get +70 AR without needing a piece of ascended armor.
Anyway, even despite the gear grind, there is no gear treadmill which I am more worried about. I wouldn’t want all my hard work to become devalued because Anet releases something better than ascended (not counting legendary). I agree that there needs to be more challenging content in this game and I hope raids will help with that. I would be fine if raids required some ascended pieces like Fractals, but if you look at the raid CDI, it isn’t a popular idea. The agony system doesn’t seem to be well liked and the reason ascended gear is needed in Fractals is for agony resistance rather than the minor stat boost. Don’t know how they could balance the raids around ascended without the agony system. Especially considering the different gear types (zerker, soldier, knights, etc.). It’s going to be interesting to see how Anet makes raids challenging assuming they do implement raids in the first place.
Just leveled my 7th character to 80 today. 3 of my characters were lower level after the NPE patch and it definitely wasn’t fun until I hit later levels. Going to collect enough tomes from pvp before I make my 8th character so I can skip NPE.
Unfortunately unlocking traits will still be a pain (or expensive).
Welcome to GW2 new players.
One thing I like about GW2 which unfortunately confuses some people is how much freedom you have in setting up your own goals. Getting to max level doesn’t have to be a boring grind and the end game doesn’t have to be one either.
There is no gear treadmill. The second best gear (Exotic) is great to use for almost all content. The best gear (Ascended) is only necessary at higher levels of the Fractals dungeon which you are never forced to do. In fact, that gear was mostly put in there as another thing people can work toward. Instead of going for best gear, you can go for a Legendary weapon, work on getting titles or achievements, fill up your wardrobe, collect minis, etc.
Players run dungeons, kill world bosses, kill each other in PvP and WvW (large scale PvP), explore the world, tackle missions with their guild, do jump puzzles, and go through the story. It’s refreshing to log into the game and say, “Today I want to do this.” Don’t be one of those people who reach max level then quit and complain gw2 haz no engame cuz no raids. lol
That said, the devs are looking into implementing raids. If they do, you can be assured it won’t come with a gear treadmill like in other MMOS. =)
