Illustrious Exhausted Primordial Legendary Druid, and Mesmer for fun
PvE | PvP (1500)| WvW | Fractals | Dungeons
Ha, ha, that’s really funny!
?… Wait, I don’t get it.
People defending DH, hilarious.
We all know if these were ranger traps they would have been useless by now.
And they aren’t?
No, no, no. Ranger traps are especially useful against things like diamond skin and boons like resistance. Yes, yes… Very, um, useful. In most cases you have only 4 or 5 seconds to dodge/walk out of them before taking somewhere between 0 and…. maybe a few thousand damage. At least rangers don’t have to say l2 dodge noob. There really is no need to dodge them…
Your title is an oxymoron. There is no SKILL in Diamond Skin. A passive trait that gives 100% immunity to conditions that can’t be negated. It should give resistance boon.
Don’t stomp. It’s a bad idea 8/10 times. Just cleave and drop AoE.
They look like a half digested harpy, regurgitated by a river drake…
I’ll put it this way, DRUID IS A BAD CONCEPT. Why?
Well it’s amazing in zergs, large groups bigger then 5 people, and open world events to heal people where no one cares. Why is druid bad? Because if you are solo, or with 1 or 2 friends, it makes no sense, it doesnt scale well, because you are depended on healing others more then doing your primal job. And whats that? Progressing through content with your damage. Ranger damage on druid is useless, even though we said no holy trinity, we dont heal a lot and we don’t sync at all with our pet, we don’t get event attendance if we don’t damage anything, it feels like this was elementalist specialization but failed.
Ranger has one problem, he’s assassin, and assassins don’t support, they kill. This concept will NEVER have positive meaning because it will only work in zerging.
Why i don’t play druid:
- its clunky and it feels clunky, no synergy with pet and other skill, full potential of glyphs is wasted due to very poor AF generator.
- bad gaming experience because a lot of skills have huge cast for skills that are easily dodged
- a lot of skills feel and look clunky because they feel like you play with 400ping
- Druid Avatar form skill 1 is disaster should be insta cast with skill reuse
- Druid Avatar form skill 5 movement lockdown and long cast?? Works for pvp, and NO WHERE ELSE, it’s kittened.. U cant do that in smale scale fights like 8v8, you cant do that in zergs, you cant do that in events…. While Revenant in shiro form elite does the same with… faster cast, can move… but no.. ranger has to root himself just for rooting the enemy?? pardon me, that’s where my logic breaks, you risk your death in events just to root some one, while people have tons of stun breaks, All i have to say on this come and play WvW with us, or Events like DS, and u’ll see that this concept is one of the most depended on other people……..
- Druid Staff skill 4 clunky takes to long to cast, takes to long to aim
- Druid staff skill 5, if you compare it to reflection wall… reflection wall is nice and visible, ranger staff skill 5 wall is DISASTER TO NOTICE IN ZERGS.. we waste so many things because we dont see them
- Druid Staff skill 3 gives you in combat
- Druid Staff skill 1 has no dmg, pure sadness
- Ranger avatar form should offer at least 1 stack of stability
- Druid Astral Force cannot be recharged while in avatar form
- Druid Astral Force cannot be recharged fast enough if you dont have more then 2 players around you.
- Due to very bad druid mechanics, we are not even able to use ranger elite because we lack of stability
If you ask me, druid was again, rushed last, shame, pity, and sad to know.
EDIT: I TOTALLY FORGOT, DRUID and Celestial avatar, HAVE NO SKILL QUEUE. Please fix that?
Honestly, the damage calculations are based solely on potential, and not reality. Reality is more relevant than Potential. The science gamers use to guesstimate damage is bogus. Do some real, in combat, tests and see for yourself.
Nerf DH <3 I wanna see sweet tears of DHs fall in their keyboards!
I used to think guardians had skill but, with all the DH defenders, I am staring to think these guardians are all button mashers. Maybe it’s always been this way. Maybe ANet made DH traps so ridiculous to make up for a skill gap…
Easy? Well, i don’t know about that. I can certainly ravage the PvE AI with Ranger, but I’ve been using it since launch, and would hope this is the case.
As for open world PvE and the other classes, you are most likely using the wrong Armour. The difference between exotic and ascended Armour is significant, and if you want to beat the Hero Point challenges and other tough content solo, you need to move out of zerk meta. The other classes can survive just fine.
Ranger is, of course, the most enjoyable PVE profession, methinks. Less because it is “easy” and more because it is fun to do 2 things at once. Mesmer can do the same, in a somewhat different way, to be honest.
Hm, I always assumed it was a last second blind that negated my missed stomps. Are you sure you are not getting blinded?
Agreed, the cooldown on spike trap is too long. It should be 30-35s to make it worthwhile. Pulsing weakness on poison trap sounds good as well.
DH is really fun to play, if you are looking for a nice heavy archer type. I still think LB Ranger is fun, as well. DH just has a different feel, and I think it’s quite nice.
No, I included the F heal skills are included.
Whereas, Druid F5 Healing…
1: 2: 3: 4: 5:
650 500 2452 810 0But ya, you’re right. What sort of not-void would you prefer?
And yeah, okay one condition oriented and one power oriented, that’s true. Also, good point. Keep in mind though, we’re talking about a one class that is meant to hold up in a close-quarters fight (Guardian/Dragonhunter) in another class (Ranger/Druid) that’s really not thematically nor mechanically designed to be getting hit.
Realistically speaking a Dragonhunter might survive to see condition damage playing out in a fight. And anyway, where they are standing usually is the fight.
Rangers are supposed to be moving around. Realistically so is our target. We really ought to be throwing poison boas, razor wire boas, blazing hoops covered in tar, and that sort of thing. Standing around waiting to die while our opponent goes, “Lawl! I’m not walking into that! Oh, silly, silly Rangers!”
Just curious… What is the cooldown on CA skill 3, and how many times can you use it before CA form ends? Compare that with DH F2 (which is a sweet heal to be sure, but has a much longer cooldown).
Edit: Imagine if you could use skill 3 four times, you could return about 10,000 HP to every ally in your party! I bet it would even do more if you invested a little in Healing Power!
(edited by Archon.6480)
They are working. Probably not the way you like, though. Stick with cats.
I’ll say this and nothing else: if the druid is so ‘useless’, why are/were there so many tears about them in PvP then and now?
Yes, there are issues to be addressed. Yes, it needs some fixes. Yes, certain traits need a rework. But the class is far from broken and useless.
It may be that the druid isn’t something you’ll like for your playstyle, yet it’s hardly invalid. So I won’t say ‘learn to play’, but I will say, “Learn to adapt.”
ANet has never given ranger a free ride, and I don’t expect it to start now.
:) Must be that it is both useless and OP at the same time! Or maybe it is only useless when used improperly, and OP when used properly?
…Pop up a warning when you start match by solo rushing far, that says: “Warning your team is outnumber on middle and is dying a bloody gurgling death thanks to you!” That would help.
Or, another message that pops up when solo rushing Beast: “Psst, the 30 points you gain from killing beastie, won’t match the 15pts + revive time of your allies who are getting slaughtered on mid while you read this message.”
Daredevils op needs nerfing to the ground
Yes, yes Darede…. wait, what’s that? I don’t think I’ve seen one in PvP?
I’ve started using the Electric Wyvern in PvP on Druid. Love this thing. It works best if you approach your foe at a 30 degree angle so the pet ends up behind your foe. You can also start by dodge rolling straight through them, if you like to b-line your enemy. The wyvern charge is insta-cast so you can have it plow through them—from behind—at just the right time, if you are crafty. Pets work best if you can get your opponent between you and them.
Daze doesn’t cut it. Still too low on damage. Cool down is too low and when we’re chilled, it’s especially a problem. I have a better shot surviving on my ele or Mesmer. It’s almost unfair. Evasion? All we have to do is run because we can’t kill 1v1. Even if I am more skilled all I do is run. That’s not what this game is about. If you played gw1 it gave flexibility to take your own skills and custom your build. If I am forced to have a fixed 5 skill sets atleast balance them along with the utility. You tell me. Do you want to fight a rampage warrior berserker with your ranger? I doubt it.
Before HoT, Ranger was strongest 1v1 class. After HoT, it still seems quite strong to me. I really don’t find warriors to be particularly strong in 1v1 situations. Necros and engies seem pretty good in 1v1.
The cast time on skill 4 is painful, for sure. I keep using it, but can’t understand why, to be honest
That looks… surprisingly fun! Thanks for posting!
…Daze… you have LOTS of daze. Also, use evasion to mitigate damage. Defense is too low on ranger, but evasion is high.
Yes he is just fine, but in this mythical world of pve where damage meters don’t exist and no way of seeing actual damage output it is hard to see fault. You as a ranger lack buffs for your party unless you bring spirits, your condition builds lack sustained damage, and your power builds require you to stand far away and contribute nothing to your team except a pet buff. Why bring a ranger when u can bring an elementalist or an engineer to fill the roll better. Enough with your petty idealism.
What? Forget idealism, lets just stick with reality. Please, you are rehashing tripe from 2 years ago. Everything has changed since then and your statement about power builds requiring us to be at Range has NEVER been true in the 3 years the game has been out.
Highest damage output for Ranger (on any build) is, and always has been, right up close to target. Ranger has almost always had the highest damage at range, as well.
All our melee weapons have counter attacks or evasive attacks so we can attack up close, without even needing to dodge. (SW/GS/D) Obviously, we are supposed to fight up close.
Druid brings party heal, mobility, and can shred break bars like there is no tomorrow.
It would be nice if it triggered something on the pet, but many Rangers (not me) hate their pets, so I can see why they designed Staff the way they did. Skill 5 has too short of a duration to make it as useful as I would like.
On Condi shatter, try to use carrion amulet. Also, you can equip the sigil that gives extra dodge roll on weapon swap. Having 2-3 dodges every 10s helps. Don’t leave home without blink, as well. Mesmer has weapon blocks and evades, so try to use those. Watch out for trap guardians. If they insta drop one on you, you’ll be dead before the lag catches up to you. Paint the with conditions and keep your distance.
QQ! QQ those QQing QQers! Is QQ a verb, adjective, noun or pronoun?
I am going to QQ you!
That QQer got what he deserved!
Aren’t you being a little QQey today?
You are a QQer!
Go QQ yourself!
Thoughts about DH? Rally bait. Equip heavy conditions and rally off them. They die so fast you won’t even get a chance to stomp them.
Have you tried cc’ing the Gollum
I did, but it earned me the title “Troll,” so I decided to retreat to my dark cave instead of continuing to alienate my fellow Bearbows rangers.
If we can press one button (pet target foe—maybe 0 buttons if auto aggression is on) and deal constant damage, everyone would rightly say Ranger is a beginner class where the AI does all the work.
Edit: For those that don’t care to watch, the Lynx deals 7933 direct damage and about 7500 bleed damage in around 10s, by simply having the ranger press 3 buttons to apply some softish cc. That’s about 15,500 total damage in 10s. If the dev’s increase the passive damage pets do, they’ll have to decrease the active. I don’t want this.
(edited by Archon.6480)
Welcome! Welcome, fellow guardians to being despised like Rangers have been for years, Mua, hahahahahahahaaa! You are going to be cursing that bow soon! Now all we need is a noob build utilizing bows and spirit weapons.
“Get lost spirit-bow noob!”
Just curious, doesn’t Mesmer eat DH trapper for breakfast? I am no expert, but I would think Chronomancer, with a resistance build, would blow up DH. Right?
He, he. The problem is not stepping on the traps. The problem is the squirtly little Asuran engie (complete with zits) that pulls you into the traps when you are staying off the traps, like a good boy.
Feel free to replace “engi with zits” with any other class (mesmer, guadian, ranger, etc) that can hard cc you into a death zone.
I am OK with DH having a nice bit of AoE denial. However, there is AoE denial, and AOE DENIAL. The first is OK, while the latter is… a little annoying. DH has some very obvious weaknesses, but in a good group fight, the AOE DENIAL is really powerful for stomp prevention and stomp security. I am not 100% convinced this will be the new Guardian meta, but… If not this, than what?
Is there one? Where did you get the idea there is one. I’ve only seen yellow ones.
Archon.6480
Yo mate, this topic is not how to use pets efficiently, this topic is how efficient pets are on their own, and how accurate they are.
That’s the same like making example how poorly clones are placed of mesmer, and you would complain how stupid some mesmer player is because they don’t know how to shatter.
Your arguments make sense, but not for this topic. Ranger pet is “30%” of rangers damage, but what we did just prove is that this is far from reality.
If you mean to troll, you have more appropriate forums for that. Ty.
Me? A troll? I post all the time on the Ranger forum, and I don’t troll. Look at my history. I simply disagree with the notion that this should be surprising. I see the pet as “extra” damage or utility, that we have to work for. It is not free. I never said the pet is “30%” of a ranger’s dps. Who said that? I don’t think that’s true at all.
I just don’t understand the shock and outrage that the pet can’t do much on its own. I mean, it really has been this way for 3 years. I am not trolling. I wish someone would back me up on this. We all know the pet has been like this since launch, right?
We have to work with what we are given. I don’t like it, its just how it is. If we want the pet to hit, we have to create situations where it can hit. Whether that means CCing our opponents or using skill to speed the pets up, or using pet swap when we are getting beat into the ground by something.
I understand this thread is about pet “efficiency,” but how can that be separated from the actual use of the pet and still be relevant in any way? If you say to a developer. “Hey morons! You screwed up, the pet can’t hit anything on it’s own, because the AI sux.” Won’t they just reply, “Yes, and? You’re not supposed to use it like that.” Is that not the end of the story?
If a developer comes on here and says, "Yeah, this is a problem and we are going to look into it. I’ll gladly change my position that this is not working as intended. Why do I have to be a troll because I think this is how it is supposed to work? I didn’t say it was a strong mechanic. I actually think it is a little lack-luster.
I might have been too hard on the OP. For those of us that have been playing Ranger for the last three years, this is obvious. Right? Is any veteran Ranger really surprised by this? If they wanted to change this, they could just make the pets move faster.
It would be really nice if we could choose one character on our account and pick a place for them to hang out, while we are offline. Maybe pick a phrase for them to say if you talk to them as well.
“All things have a right to grow…”
watch this. you’ll feel a bit silly when you realise how easy the traps are to avoid.
Not this stupid video again…
You need to get away from them. They use PBAoE, so stay out of it as best you can. Teleport, dodge roll, use skills to create distance. Cross your fingers and hope no one CC’s you while you try to escape!
:) Well, look at the bright side. No one can rightly say, “Ranger is a skill-less class that noobs and plebs use because the pet AI does all the work.”
Clearly, the pet barely hits if the Ranger does nothing. The OP’s tests show this very well.
Archon is a living example why some guild wars 2 players will argue about the complete oppsite no matter what evidence you bring, if that is complete ignorance, trolling or low IQ we never know.
See evidence as to why standing afk to analyze pet damage is a myopic test:
Weapon Skills that directly effect pet’s attack:
Weapon Skills that indirectly effect pet’s chance to land an attack:
Utilities That directly effect pet’s attack:
Utilitites that indirectly effect pet’s attack:
I am too lazy to include all the traits that boost pet damage and chances of landing a hit based on player action.
I seriously hope the devs actually take this to heart. If I was working on something and it was in this poor state I’d be embarrased and sad. C’mon, we actually need some kind of response on this, or has the developers been asked to be silent ever since Roy was forum devloper of the month.
Yes, I seriously hope they increase our base damage, as well. I am not here to defend them, because I am still annoyed they took a powerful GM trait, that had a 3s cooldown, and turned it into a useless trait with a 12s cooldown, which is filmsier than a single sigil of leeching.
We have to make better arguments than the OP did, however. We are bearbowing, if we do nothing and watch our pet flail around. It’s not a valid test.
I didn’t miss your point. Your point is just moot. What can the Ranger do to make the pet hit a moving target?
Please explain how better use of the pet will make it hit moving targets more reliably. Better yet, post a video.
I really think we are in agreement. I also believe that having a pet is not a good justification for the damage reduction we receive, because the pet does not land enough hits in combat to account for our damage reduction. This is very true when fighting high tier players that move really fast, cleanse soft and hard cc nearly instantly, and never stop moving.
Here is the video to describe what I mean: Pets Need Our Help
3 button presses and the Miley kills the moving target in under10s. I could have had the pet kill it faster using utilities and starting with pet swap and BM. I used clerics amulet to lower my personal damage.
The OP posted that it takes the Lynx about 26.9s to kill a moving target. That argument is such an extreme exaggeration that we will get ignored. We need to make better arguments if we want anyone to listen.
Wat?
THE ENTIRE POINT of the test is to test the AI without human intervention. Did you watch the videos?
Please explain how better use of the pet will make it hit moving targets more reliably. Better yet, post a video.
I think you are missing my point. My point is:
Pets are useless without player intervention.
This is by design. If you don’t do anything, they don’t do anything.
That is how they are supposed to work. If you are AFK, they are AFK. Despite the fact they run around and feebly flail at your opponents. Is this the fault of the AI? You bet it is. And they move too slowly.
Is this on purpose? Yes
Is ANet going to change this? I don’t think so
We can’t test the pet by itself, because it is tied to us like a ball and chain. The only test that would be good must include the Ranger doing its best to kill target, as well.
Also, LFG abuse fits this scenario a little. Because, when they queue solo, or in a small group, they are looking for a group to play with. If they then afk, and don’t make an attempt to play, they are abusing the system.
Druid would demolish the ele because of the imba pet damage.
Ha Ha, Yes, YES! And DD ele is one of the least mobile classes (especially in combat) so that pet will be landing all it’s attacks! Druid OP! Please make it so all their GM traits are weaker than sigil of leeching!
Welcome back! Have a look at WHaO and might/boon stacking. I have a feeling you’re going to love it.
I am surprised you didn’t use a bear for this test… because you are playing worse than a bearbow (albeit with other pets) and complaining they do no damage.
You should re-title this thread “Bearbow don’t work in PvP”
This tread will get ignored by the devs because you are poorly using your pet and complaining it does no damage.
OP, just test it yourself. Pick whatever Ranger build you think is OP and play several matches to the best of your ability. At the end of each match record your outgoing damage given and received. The little popup window at the end of the match shows this.
Next, do the same with your favorite class. A sampling of 10 or so matches should give you a good generalized idea of damage output. I’ve been playing ranger since launch and can do about 200,000 damage in a good game. I can easily do about 350,000 with mesmer in a good match, and I only play it for fun.
Try it yourself. If you want a laugh, try this with DH or DD elem.
Ranger useful, please nerf!
doesn’t have much to do with ranger tho, tis all about druid, don’t confuse things, bro
Ranger Druid is useful please nerf both Ranger and Druid.
Ranger useful, please nerf!
Thanks, as well. I’ve been going slow and really having a great time exploring the stunning world you have imagined. For those taking it slow, continue this way, it is awesome!
The battle for Tarir is just fantastic and the story, as you leave Verdant Brink, wow. Like a nightmare!
Love it! I can’t wait to replay this on my Mesmer.
ANet, I really enjoy the Hero Point challenges in HoT. Can you add some sweet rewards for those of us enjoying the hunt for heroics?
The Hero Point reduction kinda took the wind outta my sails for the remaining ones…
Pleeease, ANet! It is going to take me two whole daaays to beat HoT! Please nerf difficulty. Hero Points too OP! I keep dying in zerk Armour. Too Hard! Not Fair!
:)
Interesting ideas…
Most Rangers I run into have very good situational awareness compared to the majority of those who play other classes. This is all anecdotal, but I frequently see Other Rangers sizing up my build and attempting (win or loose, to find a weakness, or out maneuver me).
I’ve even seen really good Rangers out Rotate me, or attempt to move me off point (accurately recognizing my build’s weaknesses and strengths). On the contrary, most other classes will relentlessly charge me to their death. So, I take issue with the 50-60% of Rangers don’t know kitten about their kittens. 20-30% tops, and they are most likely new players, so it is OK. It takes a while to learn.
2nd point: The pet’s single target DPS against a target golem is interesting, but somewhat unimportant as the interaction between the pet and Ranger are far more important. Swapping to river drake, in a fire field, after landing a hard cc, to get a nice tail swipe is priceless or might stacking with jungle kitty to buff self and pet to 25 stacks of might for a good 5-10s rampage at the right time, etc etc.
Edit: To be clear, how fast can you and pet take out Svanir, or wipe the Foefire Lord and his cronies in HotM (with different builds—Lb, melle, conditions, etc).
(edited by Archon.6480)
Been playing a Ranger constantly since HoT released and my guild has noticed something about it: It breaks Defiance like crazy.
I’m not saying other profs can’t tear up Defiance but we definitely do it well.
I’ve made a few changes to my build to adapt to HoT:
Black Moa: The Daze functions really well with BM Taunt for CC’ing groups and breaking Defiance on single things. This pet has been super handy. I did keep a DPS pet like Jag or Bristleback on swap.
Moment of Clarity: Between Moa, Quick Swap and GS, there’s a lot of play here. It also helps you shred defiance bars.Speaking of Moment of Clarity. After obtaining the 400 needed for Druid I’ve been toying around a lot with MoC + Glyph of Equality. This Glyph is so useful! 24/30sec CD no animation 4 sec Daze with good range + some dmg is awesome!
Disclaimer: Considering every(?) profession has really strong stuff right now, I don’t feel that GoE is enough to be considered OP.MoC+GoE has been the reason why I’ve been running Marksman, Skirmish, Druid for PvE lately. I have dropped the Moa after obtaining Druid though.
I wanted to try it out in some fractals and when I mentioned to my guildies “I want to test some Druid supporty stuff” They asked about the healing and I told them I just want to CC everything so there’s no healing needed! Everyone was surprised at the idea but it really helped smooth out the run. It’s really nice support for lesser experienced players.
In addition: Going into CA, casting 4 once, then leaving CA immediately does pump the group with Grace of the Land stacks. It’s definitely worth taking advantage of when you finally get the bar filled and now that it doesn’t drain OOC, can be used prepull to help burst: super nice trick.Combined with support things like Vuln burst, Spotter, Frost Spirit and MoC+GoE+GS, GotL we definitely have the ability to bring a lot of offensive and defensive support.
Between PvP and PvE, I’m continuing to enjoy Druid. Now we just need to get that beta healer style back for raids!
nudge
Editted to clarify topics.
Hey, thank you very much for the info. I haven’t had a chance to try Druid yet, and have been sticking with core Ranger (which is really nice right now). I love the style of play you describe, so will give it a try. What kinds of Armour are you using?
