that it makes every other class in the game boring to play.”
Hawks
When I was a child, I had a yellow dog. I called him “Yellow Dog”. I thought it was a great name. Because he was yellow. And a dog.
Now I know better: I should have named him “Dog Barker Dog”. Because he was a dog. And barked. At other dogs!
If it is for Open World, anything would work. What you are looking is something that is fun for both of you, without being too complicated.
Anything too tanky would be good to not die… but then your Druid wouldn’t have too much work to do, and could be boring for her. Also that way you probably will kill things too slow.
IMO, the best choice would be something with huge dps and not a giant lifepool, so you can take the risks while your lady keeps you safe, and both are doing interesting.
Depending the build, it could be anything, really.
Maybe a thief? You can provide sneak and damage, while she provides healing and support?
“Little Dragon”
+1 to our friendly Borg representative up here.
Seems like a very Trump list…
Ascended/legendary equipment bag FTW.
I don’t think having all the burn in the last attack is easier to use at all. Maybe in the first…
A sudden chuckle formed in my mouth when I saw her being named “Aurene”. I instantly thought in the Fantasian Auryn necklace given to Bastian to make his wishes reconstruct the world in The Neverending Story.
So a few Fantasian names that could sound great as dragon names:
Fujur
Graograman
Pjornkrachzark
Xayide
Ygramul
Querquobad
Smerg
Yskálnari
…
Edit to add a comment:
I have to add that I don’t specially dislike Aurene’s name. It is “meh” for me, but not in a bad way.
Its not stupid, raucous, nonsensical or childish like… “Dragon Hunter”.

At some point the game gave me that orb as a loot. I ended visiting the HoM just to be really depressed looking at an empty room I could only fill by playing a game that I can’t stand…
Another question you should ask yourself is: Would elixir S when allowing skills to be cast be fun to play against?
My answer would without hestitation be no.
Is there ANY invulnerability skill that is fun to play against?
Maybe elixir S, because you know you can chase that little rascal and finish him as soon as he de-transform.
Time is priceless. Time is the only resource you can NEVER, EVER, recover, no matter what you do. But there is nothing strange on spending it having fun. That is what we all long for: using our most valuable resource in our own, actual and concrete happiness. If your fun is to be with your lover, to play a videogame or to watch the rain fall, doesn’t matter. It’s time well spent.
+1 OP.
I don’t care if its in the hero panel, through a free service vendor, or only when using a total makeover kit. Just do it now.
Only thing I would like to change was the dev asigned to Engie, when HoT was being made.
IMO, ranged weapons are boring. And melee weapons are boring too.
Engie Rifle is not ranged nor melee. It’s so fun, so absurd, its amazing.
Trade-off.
Opportunity cost.
People want perfect builds without downsides and every convenience possible linked to P2W items.
No.
No invuln should allow other skills to be used.
This game is beautiful BECAUSE it doesn’t condition everything only to combat. Exploration, map travel, is taken on account too, on multiple levels.
They are NOT unrelated topics. They are two fundamental parts of what GW2 is.
GW2 is not flat combat. Stop trying to turn it into that.
Its a trade-off. You have to choose: more combat prowess or more traveling speed.
Trade-offs are GOOD design.
I love my rifle Engie. But yes, the weapon needs to be on par with Hammer or Pistols. Just an update, nothing extreme. Only a minor adjust… something that rescues it from the pre-Hot era where it is trapped.
I can’t agree with you. The identity of the NPCs is made of a vast array of diverse elements, were the faces are only one. Also, the faces aren’t fixed, you can adjust and model them to detail.
People can make very accurate Scarlets right now, yet the NPC charisma and figure doesn’t suffer because that. People knows Scarlet anyway, and no one think she’s just a random npc without significant value because some players mimic her.
I think the variety of choices for the player are much, much, much more important than the “protection” of a very narrow, low on time screen, not very seen, super specific face of a NPC.
They failed because they weren’t able to predict the obvious response of the players. Therefore, due to their bad judgement, the nerf helped to reduce the diversity in Raid Squad’s composition, instead of adding diversity, which should have been the objective of the balancing measures in the first place.
TLDR: more of the same class = wrong balance measure.
I’ve said quite a few times already that, IF Anet finally decide to add more weapon types to the game, I hope they add Chain weapons and Boomerangs.
They are simply too unique and interesting not to have them, and far superior to any other weapon that will more or less be used the same as weapons we already have.
So I think your idea is great, OP. But I don’t think you should try to make the functionality of the boomerang too specific. In this game, weapons are first and foremost skins, and only on a second place, loose guides for the skills attached to them.
Think on the mesmer GS, or rev hammer. Weapon skills are not restricted to concrete uses at all.
So I believe is better to propose the boomerang:
1- As a more broad combat style: round, arcing trajectories that run across the field and came back to the player character, making positioning, timing and awareness very important.
2- And as an oportunity to develop skins: discs, stars, chakram, shuriken, kpingas, orbs, batwings… there is a lot that can be done with a weapon like this.
I still don’t understand why there even exist “NPC” exclusive skins and FACES. Cmon, the character creation should be improved whenever there is a chance to do so. Its important!
If railroading is bad, shapelessness is worse.
I’m all for flexibility and player creativity… but balance is paramount. Since they already have problems balancing things with a system as rigid as the actual one… I don’t even want to imagine the gigantic chaos there would be if they implement such a big change. Thae game would probably become unplayable except for a couple of absolute, undefeatable metas.
I have a couple of suggestions regarding “junk”.
1) I’d like to be able to designate certain items (minor runes and sigils) as junk. This would mean that I’d auto sell them to merchants.
2) Items that say “This item only has value as part of a collection.” should also be junk, right? I understand that once you’ve picked them up they’ve been unlocked and that’s all you need.
Thoughts?
Agree. Wholeheartedly, completely agree.

It could be an interesting way to balance things: if the weapons AA are stronger than the kits AA, then weapons become more relevant and kits less mandatory. The problem is reaching the sweet spot without gutting the profession in the process…
I don’t like any set as a whole. I tend to cherry pick specific weapon skins for specific characters.
Rifles: Azure Railgun, Spectral Wave Modulator, Bloodstone, Super Rifle, Pact Shotgun, Pact Fleet, Machined, Velocitas Eradico.
Hammers: Aetherized, Mjölnir, Fix-R-Upper.
Shields: Aetherized, Beaded Bastion, Plasma.
GSs: Beaded Claymore, Plasma, Greatsaw, Foefire’s Essence, Dark Harvest.
Swords: Bonetti’s Rapier, Chain Whip.
Etc.
5 males, 5 females. 1 robot. My main is a girl asura engie. I like her voice.
I forgot to add that only 2 of those are human: 1 girl, and the robot.
I wanted this year to end 6 months ago.
Why didn’t we just write the whole thing off as a dud in April or so and pretend it didn’t happen? We could have avoided all of this, and David Bowie could still be alive!
Now, if the earth survives the next few years…
Today it feels good to live far away from the big world powers.
I spent last night helping people get the orbs at Scavenger’s Chasm, and didn’t hear anything about the elections until I closed the game and went to bed with my girl. She was facebooking like mad, so the news just flooded everything, but I was too sleepy to give any opinion.
Thanks GW2 for shielding me from reality.
I think the idea is lovely, but you should remember Anet is trying to REDUCE factors that affect balance. If you create a complete new tree of traits for weapons, that could be combined with the normal traits… well, the possible builds multiply exponentially (which is great), but the balance issues multiply in the same proportion (which is a nightmare).
Isn’t a little late?
I think the OP believes the gear stats shouldn’t be a “goal” in a game that doesn’t “gear grind” and whose major achievements are cosmetic items. Regardless of the cost.
I believe Fosio’s question is basically: Why pve gear stats aren’t just freely selectable, PvP style?
The answer is threefold:
1- Character Progression: Any RPG features, uses, and needs statistic development for its characters as a mean to make people feel they are growing, getting better, going somewhere. Its a staple of the genre. Maybe it shouldn’t be attached to gear… but that is matter for another discussion.
2- Economy: Gear justifies having an internal economy. Without needing to buy gear, it becames progresivelly hard to justify the existence of the TP. Of course, you could still commerce with skins and dyes, but more than half the mats out there would lose significance, therefore making farming, crafting and other “intermediate” activities irrelevant. Wich leads us to the third point.
3- Fun: Believe it or not, crafting is fun. As it is selling, buying and gambling. And hoarding, and organizing, and calculating. And even grinding. People do this things that should be a chore, in their SPARE TIME. They are willing to sacrifice precious hours of rest to… match absurd amounts of virtual items in a way that create abstract probability boosters attached to silly icons. Because the chores and choices are part of the fun too: the process of making a “viper” armor to improve a certain build incorporate work, choices and socialization, which make the result VALUABLE, and the whole experience worthy of our time. Fun.
Tat being said, remember the new, more expensive sets aren’t meant to be crafted. That is only a booby trap: you should be making cheaper sets to convert in the mystic forge. (Yes, getting this info is part of the game too)
Good security value gets diminished without proper functionality and accurate objectives.
It is time they fix this forums, their attitude toward post published here and on reddit, and their politics about dev-customer communication.
Best source for Lion’s Arch is Sea of Sorrows, were the Captain’s Council politics and order forces methods in the “Free City” are hinted here and there.
However, you have to take on account the story of Cobiah Marriner happens a lot of years before the actual Lion’s Arch, and even before the GW2 “Old” one. So the legal and justice systems could have changed a lot in that time…
Also try to not lightly mix Divinity’s Reach, the Consortium and Lion’s Arch. In the game they seems to work inside the same set of rules (Were the human city follow the principles tightly, the ex pirate port intent to be more loose on that, and the Consortium directly want to bend and twist the rules for their gain…) but in the books there isn’t a clear agreement even in the basic values behind the laws…
IMO the peace between humans and charr meant a really really big change across all Tyria, even more relevant for a multicultural hub like LA, a change that the shared fight against the dragons crystallized into a much more stable and solid “Tyrian Society”: the new legal, cultural and somewhat moral “homogeneity” that we can see in-game when playing GW2 is the product of that.
As always, I digress. Just read the novels: they are fun and offer decent lore, and Sea of Sorrows is the best of the three.
If there’s no skill involved, the “value” is a joke. And I’m not talking about the sad soul that’s disposed to grind its whole life to buy something, but about the one that’s selling some “rare” thing he got by mere dumb luck, 50 times its original value.
If you want to do Raids, probably viper is the more easily accepted, then berserker (But viper is useful for both, condi and power setups, while zerker only works with power).
If you are fairly good in active defense in the open world, (know how to evade, block, invul, etc) viper is perfect. You can reorganize your build anytime without needing to change armor.
If you are not that good, or if you don’t like to be on continuous killing machine paranoia, and prefer a more relaxed experience, then Celestial is your answer: you can use all kind of builds with celestial in the open world without fear of dying instantly, you can afk for a few seconds even middle-combat, and just walk across most mobs without worrying. But you will not be killing anything fast.
I prefer the collection way.

The problem is not only the shape (as someone correctly pointed before, Sylvari and Norn are truly human shaped.) The problem is the “culture” or, more accurately speaking, the aesthetics: “Human” in GW2 means “Krytan-styled” (Or something similar). 4 of 5 races have NOT Krytan aesthetics.
So yes. While it make some sense to design first an armor with a shape that can be used with minimal changes on 3 of the 5 races, it doesn’t make sense to design aesthetics that only covers 1 of the main 5 cultures in the game world.
Would you like every single legendary armor was designed to look Charr-styled, or Sylvari-styled? Personally, I wouldn’t have any problem if they made all the legendary armor Asuran-styled. But that would be really unfair for the rest…
If you have doubts about this, please try to make a decent Asura lab, or a Norn looking cottage in your guild hall. It’s impossible: every decoration is Human (Aka, Krytan) styled. THIS IS UNFAIR.
(edited by Ardid.7203)
Totally new to me. And interesting!
I really, really like the basic idea. Guild mission really need more love, and (not current) open world need more people too. Do it, Anet, its a great idea.
+1.
A well made of pocket raptors?
Sounds like a new elite spec.
A bit more serious (just a bit):
- Build Templates.
- Gear Templates.
- Asuran, Charr, Norn and Sylvari decorations.
- Controller support.
- Asura, Charr, Norn and Sylvary themed decorations: everything, from cushions to walls and trophies seems to be human designed. I want to make an Asuran neighborhood in mi guild’s hall, but with the current decorations, it’s impossible.
- Magical and technological (And magitech) decorations: magic circles, consoles, machines, wall screens, altars, floating energy orbs, floating crystals, flasks, specimen cages, fluid tanks, microscopes, astrolabes, force fields, etc. Of course, golems, robots and elementals too, and pieces of them. All the actual decorations looks so primitive and mundane… doesn’t make sense with all the magi-scientific characters we have.
- Basic NPCs to populate the area. The least used of each player characters becomes a NPC in the hall too, just walking around and speaking lines according to its race and profession. This way we can influence the aesthetic of the NPCs too.
(edited by Ardid.7203)
I think they should make a mix of both: fast paced with scaling difficulty like fractals, but with a deeper storyline like dungeons. If the maps and mobs were also procedurally generated, it would be just awesome.
The monstrosities created by resurrecting people in the Mordrem pods are pointed by Taimi as Mordremoth versions of the Risen. So yes, the surviving dragons do gain “powers” from the energy released by the dead ones.
We haven’t seen Primordus reanimating anyone, YET. But we know his destroyers now have plant and dead powers attached…
IMO, primordus will surely began to try mind-controlling stuff like Mordy had, and we’ll see burning risen too.
Stuff I want in the next expac, from most to least important(To ME, of course):
- An amazing story with 50 hours worth of content, with hard personal choices and persistent consequences (The choices from the majority of players became the official world standard after 6 months).
- An authentic, dedicated developer for Engineer. (Aka, the new spec is not TBD during months, It get proper testing before the expac launch, the mechanic works and is useful in all modes, there is build diversity, etc)
- RP specific aid functions and tools, including “RP map preference checkbox” and Tons of New Emotes.
- Lore imbued, storyline coherent and properly animated/playable explanation for the Revenant timeline phenomena, the sudden development of gliding, and the concrete birth of every Elite Spec.
- Bigger (Visible!) weapons for Asura.
- Head and foot gear fixed to correctly match Asura and Charr anatomies.
- Fully reworked, gliding-allowing and megaserver fixed WvW.
- Voice customization for the playable character.
- Multiple medium armor sets without trenchcoats.
- Multiple light armor sets without buttcapes.
- Multiple heavy armor sets without skirts.
- 2 new weapon types: Chains and Boomerangs.
- New playable race: Steam Creatures, with a proper lore, PS line and coherent explanation.
- Improved aquatic combat and proper drowning. Breathers become relevant.
- How to dance vol 2 in the gemstore, and How to Legendarily Dance (with 15 new dances) obtainable through a long, hard and diverse quest.
- Futuristic-looking shotgun-shaped Rifle Legendary, with proper lore, story and treasure hunt.
- Raptor, Chak and Karka pets.
- New armor piece: Belts.
- Fun version of the final battle against Zaithan.
- Customizable Home Instance.
That’s all I need. Of course, needing and getting are way different things.
IMO, all the classifications on GW1 were based on the specific human vision of magic. The schools never were “the truth”, but only “a truth”, shaped by the standards of our protagonist’s mother culture.
Personally, I prefer the Great Alchemy logic.
Not smooth, Penguin. Funny anyway, though.
