that it makes every other class in the game boring to play.”
Hawks
Ranger for easy bearbowing.
Mesmer for JP tricky jumps reseting.
Thief for raw speed.
Engineer for everything else: good mobility skills with Rifle, Hammer, Elixir Gun and Rocket Boots, permaswiftness with Streamlined Kits, amazing multitagging and multilooting with Flamethrower, decent solo DPS, autosustainable Might, great against mob crowds, elites and even some champions, easy access to stealth with the Gyro, etc…
Polimorphic Sigils and Adaptive Runes should be the legendary versions of Sigils and Runes.
You can use them in any weapon/armor you want to, and they can change into any sigil or rune you want for your build.
The best combo, of course, will be to have your Legendary Weapons slotted with Polimorphic Sigils, and your complete set of Legendary Armor slotted with the mandatory 6(7 if you count UW) Adaptive Runes.
This way you solve the problem with sigil/rune swapping on Legendary items, and add 2 new big, repeatable quests to do for completionists.
Win-win.
I didn’t say they were hard… :P
I don’t understand your problem.
Why would you delete your account just because your XP bar doesn’t advance?
Mine doesn’t advance either. It has been stuck since at least 3 months because I don’t have enough interest to get the last few Mastery Points I need to spend the xp and get the mastery. This is on both, Central Tyria AND HoT.
Honestly I don’t care. I’ll probably get the mastery points eventually, and in the meantime I still get tons of fun just roaming around doing stuff. Why would I need to delete my account? Doesn’t make sense.
Knowing where, when and how to jump does require brains. There are some JPs that only require reflexes, but they are few.
Mi toon is pahologically curious. She will jump at every door, portal, bunny burrow or volcanic vent available; try to talk to every stranger, friend, foe, alien or dragon; eat every thing barely similar to foodstuff (including dead enemies, rocks and odd energy); and in general, try to know more of anything that cross her path.
Rift events are just standard duty for her.
The wiki says “After completing this achievement, the anomaly model for the player changes when standing in the Mystic Forge. The new anomaly is race-specific and is different depending if the player chooses the Consortium or Priory.”
Someone knows the details? How are the models different?
Charr are the only ones with COWtapults. They can’t lose.
Kinda related, but…
Today one of the things I can do is a Jumping Puzzle in Southsun Cove called ‘Under New Management’. I seem to recall there were two there, one was easy by where you ported in, and the other was that ‘timey-jumpy’ one.
How do I know which is which? I don’t recall jumping puzzles having names (3 weeks into not having played for 15 months before that)?
“Under New Management” is the easy one. The hard one is called “Skipping Stones”.
Ventari was a great spiritual guide for the Pale Tree and for Ronan. Ronan, however, was a much more “normal” guy, just a good, paceful and caring one, and he was the one that planted the seed in the first place.
IMO, while the Pale tree thinks Ventari as a moral ideal to follow, she sees Ronan as her father, as family. Hence she created sylvari as human-like, but teach them ventari’s words.
I think all the 3 books are good reads: fun, easy to read, exciting and lore filled. However, EoD is clearly weaker than the other two. Its more akin a really flashy action movie, with lots of fighting, many different environments, big heroes and bigger baddies all across the world, although not so great in the plot and caracterization aspect. Sea of Sorrows, by the other hand, is an amazing, beautiful book that can stand by itself among the upper caste of high fantasy works. It isn’t a masterpiece, but it is fairly close, and I gladly would put it next to Tolkien, Lloyd Alexander and Philip Pullman.
No one knows. Not even Anet. They have tried to coerce Rytlock to spill something about it, but after a year, they still haven’t got the tiniest clue.
You should read the threads and decide for yourself, Harry. Not everyone agrees on the actual state of the Engie/Scrapper in the current meta, so you need to choose who you believe.
Widest common ground seems to be “Hammer is the best weapon, Rifle is really bad, Shield is not useable”, and that the two major builds for Engie are hammer power Scrapper and pistol/pistol condi Base Engie.
If you only like engie for its turrets, you should change profession.
We need more Emotes, more animations, more immersive and RP stuff in general.
Make it gemstore stuff if you need, I don’t care.
I’ll much prefer having more emotes in the gemstore instead of those lame outfits they are shoving down our throats.
I saw someone suggest that the greatsword should be 3 skritt in a trenchcoat
And it is still the best idea ever.
Asuran technomagical bio-weapons? Yes, the Inquest would use them without hesitation. Rata Sum would surely just look to another side.
And because the Eternal Alchemy never can be truly predicted, the Infected will become a threat even worse than the Corrupted.
But the claws are just the pointy, hard portion, not the whole thing. How do you call the forelimbs of a mandrill or a gorilla?
Maybe my perception comes from english not being my first language.
But then they WILL need to choose: to make new expansion focused on new race, with all the extra effort and costs that implies…. or a whole new GW3, with an even bigger effort involved, but more powerful in the long run.
A statement showing that Ardid has definitive knowledge of what the game will need to do. Maybe he should apply for a job with ANet. Consulting maybe, since he can tell what the game absolutely will need in a few years. Must be nice to know so much. As for me, the older I’ve gotten the more I realize I don’t know as much as the people who actually do the work.
Sorry Flesh, I think you are mixing people. I’m in no way in the same boat as Adry. You seems to be cherrypicking things from my post due to your argument with Adry. Please don’t.
Ok. You’ve confused me. Did you or did you not say that they WILL need to choose between a new race or gw3?
I did, however I put it well in context about it being my opinion, not a fact.
I’m fairly sure you also correct the name and the phrase “Another statement”, but since the forum doesn’t seem to have registered any edition, I’ll suppose I were just dreaming and your comment against me was somehow more freely given than I supposed.
My OPINION stands, anyway.
Edit: Oh, it does show the edit. Nice to know.

Hands = Prehensile, multi-fingered.
Paws = Used to walk, with claws.
Technically, they aren’t mutually exclusive. So I’ll say Charr have four paws, of wich 2 are also hands. And Asura have hands that are paws too.
I tried WoW for a week or so, and just can’t suffer it. GW2 was multiple times superior for me, in multiple ways, so I stick to the game.
The real point here is… its all about personal preferences. If you loved WoW, maybe you will not like Gw2. But you will not know it until you try.
IMO, the fast and mobile fight style of GW2, the jumping puzzles, the Asura and Charr races, the simple and easy to participate style of the massive PvE content, and the Engie’s Flamethrower are simply amazing. HoT just add more things I love, like the multilayered “vertical” maps and gliding.
So… try it, if you don’t hate it, give it a time, and maybe you end being a happy captive of the game like me.
The Char fight against Ascalon ghosts out of hatred and stubbornness. But the ghosts are very contained and can’t normaly move freely outside their place of haunting. Charr could easyly withdraw from Ascalon to attack other enemies. Similar can be said about the branded.
The ogres are a minor threat, more similar to an annoying guerrilla than to a real battlefront.
The Flame Legion and Ebonhawke, however, are a totally different matter. They are real opponents no Charr could turn their back on.
So it all would fall down on the strategy taken by the high commands in the Charr army. If they decide to go with all the force against the humans, they are done. But that would meant to sacrifice the Black Citadel to the flame legion, to gain Divinity’s Reach instead. Hard call for them, really.
Lion’s Arch is destroyed. Forever.
But then they WILL need to choose: to make new expansion focused on new race, with all the extra effort and costs that implies…. or a whole new GW3, with an even bigger effort involved, but more powerful in the long run.

Good gameplay, concrete activities and good rewards tied to them could support the game a long way without needing too much novelty. Add maps for exploration and the playable hours multiply.
However, with time the old lore begins to thin, and eventually it feels hollow. Then is when you need something totally new to catch the audience interest again. New things with new lore and new aesthetics (Not just cosmetics): a new place, truly different and with its own lore, a new environment, a new race.
IMO there will be one day when Anet will reach this point of needing new lore, new aethetics, and a new race. Since the game still holds itself very well, I think this isn’t going to happen soon at all. 3 or 4 years, maybe, probably 2 expansions span.
But then they WILL need to choose: to make new expansion focused on new race, with all the extra effort and costs that implies…. or a whole new GW3, with an even bigger effort involved, but more powerful in the long run.
They have hands. With claws. And teeth. Many teeth.
No good reason to play Engie on Raids, no good reason to play Engie on PvP, no good reason to play Engie on WvW. Nice. We are the proverbial irrelevant profession now.
Whirling Wrath on a Guardian GS will also cause suicide if used against 5 retatalited targets, as it’s 14 hits per target.
Using it blindly is bad.
Thank you, Ezrael. I don’t play Guardian: how is Whirling Wrath normally used?
Are there more examples? It would be nice to know how well(or bad) balanced is retaliation in other cases.
So it hits a lot, for not so much damage, but it kills you if you use it. Meanwhile, other AoEs do more damage with less hits and are safer. I honestly don’t think the drawback is properly designed.
As Obtena pointed out, you can use it, and it’s really good when you do, but if you aim it at a crowd that all has retal up, then yeah you’ll kill yourself.
The thing FT has that other AE’s don’t is the ability to keep the pressure going. Drop wells/meteor/lava font/thunderclap/whatever ae field and players can just dodge out or through. Melee trains you can dodge to the side or through and be out of range. FT with it’s range the enemy dodges and I can still hit them, anything in front of me is going to be getting a solid amount of damage pushed on them. The enemy would need to double dodge through to get through unscathed but then I can just turn around and I’m applying damage again, no need to catch up like with a melee weapon.
That’s the strength of FT, and why not having retal as a counter would probably leave it too strong.
I agree FT auto could easily end being too strong. That being said, I still think it is not balanced well enough. IMO the counter is too big, and too common exactly in places where you should be able to use that sort of pressure.
So it hits a lot, for not so much damage, but it kills you if you use it stupidly.
Fixed that for you.
Thank you for the very objective and serious argumentation.
Is there any skill comparable in other professions? (Other skill where retaliation of AoE kills you if you “use it stupidly”?)
I checked the expansion of a rather big competitor game, which released it a bit before GW2. HoT and their features is about 5times the stuff we have in GW2. 18(!) dungeons, 2 raids, 3 new classes, 1 new race, 9 new zones… the list goes on. And they recently announced even a new expansion… and it was cheaper. Anet, get a grip!
It’s just not there. I liked HoT while it lasted and it lasted about 3-4 months. The scarce content patches they release keeps you playing for another 2-3 hours and while nice there’s no meat on it. And this after a mere 3.5 zones… I really hope the next expansion has like thrice the content HoT has…
Which one do you prefer to play, the competitor or GW2?
In all the time since HoT bring us the gliding system, I have had this problem… 2 times.
So, it IS a l2p problem.
That said, it would be great if they add the option. I shouldn’t harm anyone to have that choice available, and it would open the “hold jump” input for some interesting stuff.
Fast paced… you mean, the character moves fast, or you mean the player has to think fast?
Exactly, that’s the word: kitten.
I love JP, but haven’t done this yet.
I don’t like to rely on mesmers to do JPs, is too similar to AFKing during events. What’s the point in participating in something if another player is doing all the work?
Outfits are easier. Outfits are cheaper. Outfits are dull.
Sorry, but easy, cheap and dull don’t describe what I like to invest in. I don’t value measly things.
For the Eternal Alchemy! I’ll be happy if they at least convert the boots into proper armor…
So it hits a lot, for not so much damage, but it kills you if you use it. Meanwhile, other AoEs do more damage with less hits and are safer. I honestly don’t think the drawback is properly designed.
Yes because underwater environments are beautiful and I’d like to get more use out of my rebreather icicle effects
No because sharks
I’ll simply let the proper spoiler here.

I have galeophobia DONT.
Unless you have Pararibulitis you should be safe.
Although then, trying to further investigate the spoiler could be a problem….
I don’t know very much about other profs. Is there any ranger or ele AoE that suffer as much as FT from group retaliation?
Yes, it’s just that you don’t often get opportunities to kill yourself like you can with FT. If Ele were to drop Air overload, Meteor and then IB4 onto a group that didn’t move but had retal they’d die quite quickly, thing is people tend to move out of red circles like that where we can continually move with that group and get at least a few of the potential 5 targets per hit, so again we see the opportunity to kill ourselves more often.
I still find plenty of times where I can use FT. It’s just not worth it against organized groups. I treat it more like a mop, when we’re slaughtering the enemies I can pop FT in to get more bags. When things get tougher it’s not always the best option. If it weren’t for retal I think we’d be using FT a lot more often.
The damage done by that hypothetical Ele will be comparable to the damage we get from FT 1 too?
Christmas is always the samey.

I leveled it just for fun. It cost me some gold, but nothing even close to “expensive”. I did it mostly with consumables and WvW stuff.
I suppose the point is not that WE have more condi damage, but that the whole party would have it.
I don’t know if I really like the idea, but at least the spirit of adding something useful for the group is there.
GW2 has a really beautiful underwater world, and the underwater combat system is undoubtedly more advanced and interesting than most other mmos have to offer.
However, I wouldn’t call it “awesome” in any case.
I too, think they should give underwater content more love (time, resources and work), but they should begin by fixing the multiple issues in the uw combat system. Make all the skills usable underwater, for starts…
I don’t know very much about other profs. Is there any ranger or ele AoE that suffer as much as FT from group retaliation?
IMO Norn would be the first to fall.
Norn are few, and, although they are great warriors, they aren’t good at teamwork. Confronted to a real army, their heroics will not be enough to save them: instead they will die “epic deaths” by the hundreds, and then simply scatter across the land.
Sylvari are few too, but they have the good sense of hiding and running when they need. They could probably organize a good defense of the Grove and resist there until the war reach a cap point… but they would accomplish little else. Even their awesome spies will not be able to do a noticeable change in a situation were every other race wants them instantly dead.
Individually, Charr are fast and fierce predators always ready for blood, far superior to any other race in a 1vs1 situation, with the possible exception of Norn. As a group, they are the most cohesive, organized and capable killing machine Tyria has ever seen. Armed with the new knowledge they have from Asura and Human technology, and having grown during the truce times to a vast population, they have become simply unstoppable.
Being way smarter, prouder and less moral than the other races, in the event of a 5 sided war, Asura would probably run for their lives to the safety of a floating city or something like that. Then, while the rest fight directly, they would simply turn off every single thing that depends on asuran magi-tech to work, and began to force the control they already have over technology, commerce and transportation on tyria.
While they will probably never “win” the war, they will undoubtedly benefit the most from it. Their major problem would be the Charr, but thay could simply avoid them using the portal technology until the infighting and scarcity of resources eases the threat.
Humans have an outstanding fortress in Divinity’s Reach. They would probably try to properly fight, but they are few, charged with political issues and too “righteous” to maintain a truly ruthless fight against 4 other forces. They will most likely end trapped inside Divinity’s Reach, sieged by Charr on every corner, exactly like it happened in Ebonhawke, just in a bigger scale, and without any outside help to keep supplies incoming.
In the end, the outcome of such a war would probably be a wide Charr nation surrounding the few strongholds controlled by Humans and Sylvari, with a sort of Norn guerrilla guerrilla offering pitiable resistance from the wildest and farthest places in the continent, not-oficially ruled by Asuran economical and technological claws.
Does ranger’s or ele’s AoEs suffer as much as FT?
Everything Kodan touch became dully self-important or stupidly goody-goody. I like quaggan in general, but those in bitterfrost are unbearable.
Snaff, Macha, Kranxx, Eli, Efut, Taimi…
Almost every non-generic Asura character is wonderful, and some generics are amazing too…
That’s not my favorite thing about asura, anyway. :P
Its an outfit, is bad from the beggining.
