that it makes every other class in the game boring to play.”

Just do everything!
15 characters forum thing.
37 worker, no children but plenty of responsabilities anyway. My wife and me play GW2 and love HoT.
Maps: I don’t need more maps like Gendarran Fields at all, but I don’t mind if they add some of those too, as long as they keep adding vertical/3d focused ones.
XP rewards: Post 80 there are the masteries. The problem is after masteries… then effectively all the xp you could earn doesn’t give you anything.
I would prefer some kind of launcher used over the shoulder, so the kits looks more unique.
I don´t think China is a backward country… They are surprisingly advanced in a lot of things. Even their questionable things are very modern…
Necro is great, specially Reaper.
Guaranteed Wardrobe Unlock guarantee you’ll obtain a skin you don’t have yet. It doesn’t guarantee you’ll get a decent skin, just one that you haven’t unlocked.
Most people are saving them while obtaining all the basic, plain, cheap and uninteresting skins, so they could get something more valuable in the end.
I chose a Charr as my engineer. Wanted to make a character based on Jake from Swat Kats.
Magnificent! XD
I don’t see the point of these changes. More damage outside the AA is not what the rifle needs to compete with the Hammer. Utility that you CAN use, and the ability of actually HIT the target is what is lacking…
In complex systems, just 1 different variable can imply hundreds of hours/worker, because variables interfere and alter each other, creating exponential changes that must be monitored and controlled.
IT’S NEVER EASY.
Frankly, I would prefer they just make the LW S3 episode 4 sooner, over wasting time and resources on Wintersday.
Yeah, very grinch of me, but I’m just being honest.
My last gift to my wife was to do all the tedious work of leveling up a crafting on one of her toons, so she can make ascended items and refine excess of basic materials.
It was a work of love.
The wiki is fine for basic tips and specific lore that you are specifically searching, but it hardly connects with the actual experience of exploring the game-world.
The wiki doesn’t relate with the game interface, maps and models within the game.
The wiki is community maintained, therefore not 100% official.
The wiki uses a standard, dry and objective, out of the game language. It doesn’t help immersion and can’t set a mood for the knowledge and situations you are experiencing in the game.
A codex is not only needed, but merely a first step into a bigger work of making GW2 more immersive and better at sharing its wonderful lore.
He died of old age surrounded by his large, perfect and happy family.
Scared and alone.
No time to add more , so I’ll just +1.
Imo Quaggan are the Jar-Jar Binks of the GW universe.
Cmon. Quaggans don’t destroy the whole game just by being there.
In fact, they are much more interesting than most other races in Tyria. I’ll put them in the same level as humans: Annoying, funny, a little unnecessary, but overall good to have.
Best animations are Asura’s, hands down. Maybe you can make a bigger Asura?
Norn seems like they are walking on molases, Sylvari and human are basically the same old thing: Althought hey are well done, they are very boring.
Charr then. They are fierce, run on four paws like primitive predators but then shot at you with hyper advanced killing machines.
Even with the joke, I think you are mostly right, Beard.
There are some “rotations” for engie, but nobody really uses them, because we have so many available skills that is better to just pick the most useful for the specific moment.
It all depends on which game mode are you playing, and which build you are using…
The basic is as follows:
Weapon AAs on Engie are weak, with the exception of the hammer. Kits AAs aren’t bad, but aren’t that strong either. Grenade AA is one of the most used, because DPS, followed by Flamethrower, for tagging mobs. Bomb could be good, but is static.
Many engie skills offer fields, and many offer finishers. A good Engie will be using the combo system all the time.
Example combos:For healing: Healing Turret > Cleansing Burst (Water Field) > any blast finisher > Detonate Turret.
For might: Orbital Strike > FT Napalm or Fire Bomb(Fire fields, must be deployed before orbital hits) > any blast finisher.
On the other extreme, you have some real tight rotations that, If perfectly executed and in the perfect circumstances, will simply destroy your opponents. They usually don’t work with real enemies that move around and try to stop you.
They are nice to see, anyway.
Condi rotation example:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RxSMg8psXbE&feature=youtu.be&t=126So I guess Flame tlThrower 1 puts down a fire field then, followed
By the rest you mentioned?
All you need is to read are the tooltips. They say when a skill has a field or a finisher.
FT1 doesn’t give a fire field. Napalm (FT4) does.
You use Orbital Strike first (Its the toolbelt skill from Mortar Kit) and before the laser lands, you lay the fire field you want where the laser is going to hit. Then you blast a finisher, like FT 2, over the field, gaining might, and when Orbital Strike impact you have a second blast, gaining more might.
In theory, you could blast 2 turrets, FT2, Orbital Strike and Big Old Bomb in the same fire field, gaining stupid amounts of might… but it would be really stressing. It is up to you, though. The beauty of the Engie is that (as long as you don’t expect to be meta) you can choose the playstyle that suits you the most.
I play Rifle, Healing Turret, FT and Elixir Gun, blasting might and heal every time I can. The rest varies according to need: Stealth Gyro for skipping mobs, Mortar for range and Orbital, nades for Grenade Barrage dps burst, Ram when I want to CC everything.
“Not like” is a complete understatement. Quaggans are the worst things designs since the berlin wall. I hoped and prayed to the six gods they would never be incorporated in the story. Looks like ill have to start praying to rodgort if i want some results.
What a bizarre comparison. Quaggans are a cutesy race in a fantasy game; the Berlin wall was a tool used by a RL repressive regime to keep people from escaping to a less hostile environment.
Quaggans are from a biological, evolutionary and design point of view complete random mishaps that shouldnt be able to survive in any world. Theyre ugly, theyre annoying, and as a biologist i. An say theres nothing about their survival skills thats slightly optimal. Clearly magic has kept them alive because the chaina of evolution wouldve eradicated them by now
I’m curious, oh great biologist, what about them would impair their survival? Their ability to swim well and breath underwater as well as on land, survive in arctic temperatures, opposable thumbs, ability to construct and use weapons and buildings? An ability to actually alter their physical shape, reducing their size rather significantly. These seem like useful evolutionary qualities.
Okay, I’ll concede that opposable thumbs and the knowledge to wield weapons compensate for their biological failures.
As for the biological failures:
1) Their physical form is not made for swimming, despite being an aquatic species. In their forms they would requrie tremendous amounts of energy to stay afloat, and not sink to the bottom oor float helplessly, depending on their body density. (a quick look at their limbs also tell you they’re not made for swimming)2) Society: they have a useless means of survival, HOWEVER the use of this means is considered taboo, and they lose all hope of ever procreating. They live in a society where the survivors aren’t allowed to breed. Thats like a kick in Darwin’s skritt-bags.
They sound awfully similar to humans and their “very fast and efficient” walking method, and all their control taboos around sex and reproduction.
There were some nice leveling guides before hot… but I think these should be too outdated. Anyway, they aren’t that necessary, leveling is fairly easy in this game.
Basic concepts:
- Scrapper isn’t available until you reach 80. Use Rifle if you like power, 2 Pistols if you like condi.
- Take Flamethrower as soon as possible. → Tag as many mobs as possible. (Bombs seems to be good too at low levels.)
- Take Tools traitline as soon as possible, get Streamlined Kits. → Spam a kit button every 10 secs to get permaswiftness and navigate the map faster.
- Take Healing Turret and learn to use it as soon as possible. → Healing combo with turret is useful from the most basic PvE novice play to the most advanced PvP carnage.
- Be sure your armor level is close to the level of the map you are playing. Change your armor each 10 or 5 even levels. DON’T buy expensive armor, use the basic. If you don’t mind to spend, buy green stuff.
“Black Quaggan” – good name for a British real ale, or maybe an artisan cheese…
Imperial Stout, no doubt.
Instead of more elite specializations and don’t get me wrong, I would like to see more of them too but I would rather see newer professions so how about re-adding older professions or focus on their skills such as:
- Paragon
- Dervish
- Monk (maybe as Smiting, Protection, Divine Favor monk?)
- Ritualist
- Summoners (from the cancelled expansion, Utopia)And before people tell me that Guardian is Paragon and Ritualist, no!! It’s not the same!
Yes, Paragon and Guardian may share similar shouts, boons, bla bla bla, but they’re still not the same for me. Same goes for Ritualist, no sprits.. no Ritualist..Or maybe it’s time to introduce (dual-wielded) land-spears, javelins, halberds as a future elite specializations..
Anet specifically said they are not going to introduce new professions in the game. Any new playstyle will be added through the elite spec lines.
So if you want to rescue old classes, you should think how they could be transformed into new elite specs.
As an elite spec, I don’t see why not. As a whole profession, I doubt Anet will ever do it, not for monk, not for anything.
Don’t forget underwater weapons and breathers…
Hey! Kvothe! Awesome series. I really wish Rothfuss would hurry up with his next book. And I didn’t know the GW2 professions were lore based. Yeah, that would be really hard to do.
They have a very loose base, but it exist. You can notice in the books, and in the info inside the game too.
Thinking a little more deeply, a musician fighter could probably fits as a mesmer elite spec, using sound to confound and enchant. Mix it with a little Dredge sonic tech, and you can have a really sound elite(pun intended). It wouldn’t be that hard if they take this route.
No thank you. The system is about syntax complexity, not about structural complexity (Its about smart combination, not brute accumulation). The new “extra button” for “ancient magicks” is already destroying this beautiful balance. Please don’t add more unnecessary buttons.
I don’t know what you have against Quaggan.
They are kind, cute, round, humble and delicious. How could you hate them?
Even with the joke, I think you are mostly right, Beard.

1- “Forced” RNG. If you want the convenience, you are forced to participate in a gamble. Gamble is not good. Gamble is considered a misdemeanor which require tight control on most countries. This is “If you dont want RNG, f*** off.”
2- As far as I know, only the Havoc’s Heir gives you any advantage to explore a map, and its a fairly irrelevant one, because Gendarran Fields doesn’t offer any difficulty to exploration. I don’t really know the case of Lava Lounge, so I could be wrong.
Common people who like to create their own builds usually don’t get into PvP. They see the meta builds as unbeatable, and are mostly right.
If i was a casual player who doesnt know a lot of pvp but for some reason tries pvp one day, i think the first thing i would do is get a meta build and roll with that, i doubt that what new people do first is a custom build (unless you are f2p)
That’s why I said “Common people who like to create their own builds”. Most people don’t bother about that.
Common people who like to create their own builds usually don’t get into PvP. They see the meta builds as unbeatable, and are mostly right.
I don’t think it is a grave issue. But I do think its a bad precedent.
Again, to me, it is really similar to the Watchwork Mining Pick case: a marginal but objective advantage tied to hard cash mechanics.theres no advantage. it doesnt give you an item. it literally gives you a 10 foot platform with the sun blinding you, and a pretty tree to stare at. thats literally it. its nothing, physically, different than any other scenic spot in the game except this one is exclusive, which really doesnt matter because its not even that godkitten pretty. its actually kind of boring. even the grotto in the grove is prettier. who gives a kitten about a boring rock you can sit at? theres nothing there! it doesnt give you a buff or a stat advantage or ANYTHING
Gives you easy, mob free access to almost any point in the map.
I really don’t know. With Anet everything is possible (For good and bad equally…)
I really hope, if they add a new playable race, it is not the Kodan. They are basically what Norn are, only with unhealthy doses of new age aquarian hippie pseudo mystic babble, and a bear head. They are incredibly boring and don’t add anything new.
They are barely better than largos, but, seriously, even a new ooze playable race would be more interesting.
Aetherblade heavy armor, 2nd season LS and Shared slots on sale.
Molten Jetpack, Antitoxin Injector on the gemstore.
Invisible Shoes Skin for 1 silver for everyone.
At a minimum the subtitles should exist. Yet learning english is still a better option for most individuals. It opens so many doors, its incredible.
Kvothe the Kingkiller would applaud this idea, although I don’t know how it could fit GW lore.
Nice idea, although so imperialist and materialist that reeks of Cocacola and McDonalds. Love your Charr anyway.
Sound like a glitch, or you are dying too fast. Try to move all the time, keep the swarm away from you, and evade the vine attacks. Keep damaging the Predator without stop. It is more important not to die than to kill it fast.
Just circle around while attacking nonstop, and focus on evading correctly.
Aura may enter into it, but I think “gold” is the key concept. Gold has chemical symbol AU, from the Latin word aurum. Looking at the etymology, the Proto-Indo-European roots come from words meaning “to shine”, “to gleam”, “to glow”. Pretty appropriate for a dragon of the lineage of Glint nurtured in the City of Gold.
I still want to know about the baby daddy, though. If there isn’t one, that means that Glint was reproducing by parthenogenesis, like the mythological Amazons. Which would put the nail in the coffin of a “he” offspring, since parthenogenetic offspring are always female.
Of course, the other possibility is that Glint was actually a hermaphrodite rather than female, but nobody wants to go there. Certainly not me.
Guys. IS NOT REAL SCIENCE.
We don’t even know if creatures on GW2’s planet have adn at all… maybe all their genetic transmission is done through magic means. Maybe they are individually designed by a superior entity. Maybe their souls come from the mist at birth, and their bodies just take the gender to match that spirit…
IMO, Dragons are simply avatars of some superior archetypal concept, taking genders only when they need them to reflect some personality aspect. Aurene is probably “female” only to better communicate with their humanoid protectors.
Well, I think shareholders are doing a very weak job at obtaining data, then. There are other tools that would give much better guides for decision making.
“Trenchcoats” is just a mock term the forums have developed to describe the overabundance (on medium armor) of upper clothes that fall down over the waist, covering the leg clothing, specially the rear area.
“Buttcape” is the equivalent to describe “peplums”, skirts that cover the leg clothing, in this case attached to the lower clothes, that are also overabundant for light armor in the game.
People can argue as much as they want about what is a Trenchcoat and what isn’t, or how skimpy this or that armor design is. Whatever they said on that respect doesn’t add anything valuable to solve the lack of variety on the overall designs for each weight armor, which is the reason for this kind of thread, that have become commonplace.
So, a few questions:
If you already have enough Medium armor “leg-covering upper clothes” (Since “trenchcoat” seems hard to understand), wouldn’t you like to have another alternatives? I would like a few simple jackets, for example.
If you like Trenchcoats, would you like to have more of them in Light and Heavy armor?
I know I would.
In the case you really DON’T want more variety… Really? Then please say so, clearly, instead of debating moot points for the mere sake of debating.
There is too much that get lost in the translation.
Like what? One can choose the language in options and anyway this game is one of the finest examples of good translations to Spanish I can remember.
- Almost every single english pun is untranslatable without a HUGE effort on localization. The translation on GW2 is really good, but not that good, IMO. Even with the best translation, the original pun is usually lost in favor of a more understandable equivalent.
- Localization implies to recognize differences even between places that speak the same language… which is specially noticeable with spanish, because spanish speaking countries use incredibly different idioms and words. Anything that sounds good for a Spain native will not sound that good for people raised in Argentina. Any of those two translations would be baffling for a Mexican… and so on.
- Have you noticed each culture in the game have a different accent? Within english, those accents make references to different english-speaking cultural tropes that really add layers of interest to the game. Like Sylvari speaking “Shakespearian” english. This kind of detail tend to get lost in translation too.
- I could continue with more examples, from pop culture references to rhymes and alliterations… but you get the idea. The point is, no matter how perfect a translation is, it is never the same as the original. In rare cases, it could be better, but that is exceptional.
Between the alternatives of having something comfy translated to my “native” language or learning the original language of said something, the latter alternative will always be better. Since English is so useful and necessary today, learning it becomes an even better choice. (It is also and easy to learn language. Spanish is way harder)
(edited by Ardid.7203)
Engie is probably the funniest profession to play. But it is also one of the most nerfed and without a doubt the worst balanced. people who play engie do so because they love it, not because it is easier or more effective at the moment.
In PvE, the balance issues are harder to notice, and your Engie can make wonders in Open World. Raids are way more restrictive, and Engie is not one of the easier choices to do that content.
In PvP and WvW there are few builds that work, and almost everyone else has an easier time than Engies. Also, Scrapper elite spec tend to bunker too well to be balanced.
So… there is a too high contrast between too good HoT specific builds and generally subpar but fun normal builds.
We need a good, dedicated dev, urgently, to balance things out. But the profession is worth it anyway if you like the playstyle.
You see a lot of fellow countrymen because the megaserver system tries to put you with people close to you or who speak your language. In my case, at least 50% of the people I met in the game speak latin-american spanish.
That said, I think Brazil is a gigantic country that truly deserves proper localization. Although… localization is a mixed blessing. I really, really hate to play the game in spanish. There is too much that get lost in the translation.
I only see a bunch of cash numbers surrounded by a massive amount of unknown factors, without enough behavioral data to give useful conclusions.
What’s the point in comparing GW1 with GW2 in the first place? The two games are too different in content, aesthetic, commercial strategy, technology and time location to extract anything valuable from comparing them. They aren’t even competitors.
I haven’t completed the story of explored all the new map yet.
But I have to say: THANK YOU FOR THE ALTERNATING LIGHTING.
It is awesome. I would love if you do something similar (less extreme, IMO) to the rest of Tyria, to differentiate day and night.
I don’t think it is a grave issue. But I do think its a bad precedent.
Again, to me, it is really similar to the Watchwork Mining Pick case: a marginal but objective advantage tied to hard cash mechanics.
3. Having to do Frozen Out again from beginning to get to the boss fight.
This one irritates me the most. Most of the other Living Story boss encounters with achievements had a mote you could interact with to start the boss fight over again. It’s absent here and highly annoying repeating this from start to finish.
Windmane achievements needs you to restart the story too. Its roughly 7 minutes of repeating everything before you can fight the boss again.
The last fight with Mordremot avatar is the same, you need to restart from the beggining.
I would really appreciate if they reworked those to have proper motes… But Windmane is the same since the second LS season, and no change yet. I don’t think they will do it in the near future, if they even do it.
Can you hoard the materials and reconnect later to actually make the elixir?
My only problem with the name is it sounds too close to “Urine”.
Most people prefer cheap, flashy and non creative stuff. That’s our civilization.
