The Head of the Snake fight

in Living World

Ardid.7203

I did the fight on my engineer and died once to the jade armor in the instance.

The jade armor is basically an enrage timer.

Please remove it. Make the fights interesting in a more engaging, smart way, not through cheap reaction extra buttons.

But dodging is also a cheap reaction button…

F is for interacting. Not a good idea to put a reactionary button on something that could interfere with loot, environmental weapons, etc. You could change it to F if you really wanted to.

Dodge depends on endurance, depletable resource, so you need to use it smartly to not get stuck. Dodge also moves your toon around, so you have to be aware of your environment. Dodge interrupt certain actions, and some actions don’t let you dodge while you are doing them. Dodge is strongly ingrained in the game, is not cheap at all.

But for the sake of the problem at hand, let say that Dodge is a cheap reaction button. Why in the name of the six add ANOTHER?

I agree the “react to the bell” button could create problems with other “f” actions. Surprisingly, this is something Anet could control just fine, because the “ancient magic” thing only occurs during specific attacks which arent that common or standard. Just don’t add “f” able things close to the fight against the “ancient magic” monster. Or, maybe, you can just remove the boring Quick Time Event imitation and focus on actual mechanics for the bosses.

Sorry to sound that negative, but GW2 basic functions are so lean and elegant, this stump of a real interface just makes me angry.

However, nothing in this world is perfect, so don’t expect HoT to be everything you dreamed for an MMO.

I can’t understand people who say they “don’t like cats(or dogs(or spiders))”. Is like don’t liking trees or the sea or fingers or old people or planets. There are things that just are there and have all the reason and all the right to be there. That we like them or not is absolutely irrelevant and, in the end, an entitled way of seeing the world. Acceptance and openness and even interest are way better.

So… cats and dogs and spiders for my home instance, please!

Ardid.7203

I found the enemies in Lake Doric way harder than those from Heart of Maguuma. This is not a bad thing. It keeps me focuses and entertained. I just want to make clear the difficulties can be subjective.

That being clear, I have to say I love all the little details and hidden places the newmaps offer, and while I like the meta-maps, I don’t think the new ones need a meta.

I enjoy Bloodstone Fen originality and its 3D feeling. Ember Bay is really, really fun and fast paced. Most of Lake Doric is a little dull for me, but there are multiple sweet spots were the map becomes really wonderful. The only one I don’t like is Bitterfrost, mostly because it bores me to death.

PS: No new map compares to Verdant brink yet, IMO. VB is just too much beautiful and awesome for me.

Kits - Should New (Engi) ESpecs get them?

in Engineer

Ardid.7203

A simple solution would be to add one new kit to every new specialisation and put the new kits in the elite slot. That way you have to make a well balanced decision whether to take say mortar kit or the new one. I believe this is one way to add new kits without making things unbalanced.

Very, very, very smart.

Kits - Should New (Engi) ESpecs get them?

in Engineer

Posted by: Ardid.7203

Ardid.7203

This is probably not going to sound that good… but maybe the toolbelt and the kits should be mutually exclusive.
Example: Kits don’t give you a toolbelt skill anymore. If you take 3 kits, you gain 15 skills you can swap in the weapon area, but your toolbelt also have 3 empty slots.

Another posibility: when you swap to a kit, your toolbelt is replaced with that kit skills. You keep the weapon available, but your toolbelt remains unreachable unless you put down the kit. (This may be even worse than now, but its just an idea).

Yet another posibility: The toolbelt is replaced by 3 slots only for kits. Kits can’t be put in the utility bar, and you can equip max 3. All the toolbelt skills for non-kit skills become a second press of the same skill button (or something like that).

Ardid.7203

Sorry Konig, I’m just trying to understand why are people accusing me of disregarding the opinion of others. I do not.

Human are the basic model in the game. They even are the standard in sPvP. Most things in the game are made to fit them. So they are the safest race to pick if you want to avoid any problem, from armor clipping to projectile height issues. Conceptually speaking, human culture in mmos is almost always the easiest to digest and accept by the fanbase, and GW2 is no exception. Also human are the larger PC population in the game as far as we know.

Although I personally prefer less popular alternatives, I recognize most people will prefer the human option. I still don’t see where I “disregard” anyone. Why saying that something is safe, standard and more popular is not respecting it? Do you people think that choosing the most common option is bad for some reason?

That being said, I still would have prefered they changed Divinity’s Reach in some way. I hope in the next episodes they at least use The Great Collapse under the Crown Pavillion for something action related. I know is not very probable, because the events now became permanent content, but still I would love it.

Ele → Tempest is always your safest bet. It has really good support and dps, although it can be little complex to play. You need to really comprehend the sustain and support skills to make the clase shine, but it is really, really good.

Ranger→ Druid is also a good idea, easier to play AFAIK, just less adaptable.

Mesmer→ Chrono is another popular choice, with plenty of ranged options and some of the best support abilities in the game. It is also complex to play, but not as frantic as Ele.

Finally, although I really love Engie, I must say it is not a good class to play at range or as support. A good Engie moves in and out all the time, and in the current paradigm, the support it gives is subpar. In fact, there are several petitions in the Engie subforum asking for a more unique and better way to support teams, because right now Engie is seen as a “selfish” profession, without a decent way to help a team, unless they die first.

IMO, the diffculty on the raids is not as much in the skill level, as in the coordination level (Aka, time to spend talking). To ask for a 10 people team of well organized people is a huge filter that let A LOT of people of every skill level out of the experience.

Not giving a more PUGable option for the Raids, yet adding more and more lore to that game mode, is just wrong.

IMO it works perfect within each season, but from season to season it began to slowly damage immersion. When we go back to the personal story and then forward to the new story-less elite specs, it just explodes in your face.

Anet should make the test and put a big title with a fixed date on each map. Then evaluate what people think and feel when they understand their toons are truly jumping through time every time they change maps.

New challenging group-farming spot for leather = Bastion of the Penitent.

Unless there are mobs inside the new Raid that drop leather, the raid can’t be a “farming spot” because raid encounters only reward you once per week. And once per week isn’t exactly a “farm spot”

Maybe the Bastion is full of pocket raptors which spawn every few seconds if there is an active boss, and wich give you small amounts of leather, but can make it up because they are so many.

Or maybe the Bastion Boss just gives 4 full stacks of leather if you kill it without anyone in the party dying.

We don’t know, yet.

Quick note on Ep4 bundled updates

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Ardid.7203

Ardid.7203

Hi all,

We’re wrapping up work on Episode 4 of Living World Season 3 and expect to launch it in February, hitting our normal cadence of a new episode every 2~3 months. I want to give a quick heads-up here on a few topics that I know the community is anticipating, things that will and won’t be bundled with this episode.

This release will include the promised fix to AB multi-looting. The fix is simple: you can loot each of the great and grand chests once each time you complete the meta, once per map cycle.

This release will also include a new, challenging group-farming spot for leather.

This release won’t include legendary armor. We’re getting close to completion, though, and may be able to ship legendary armor with the Ep5 release.

This release won’t include a skill balance update. As we did last time, we’ll ship the next skill balance update off-cycle from Living World releases.

Mo

I have just realizer Mo din’t mention the new raid at all, but instead he mention a new “challenging group farming spot for leather”.
Knowing Anet have been using the term “challenging group content” profusely when talking about raids, and considering all sane players consider farming a penitence, I have to conclude:

New challenging group-farming spot for leather = Bastion of the Penitent.

How funny is that? How awful is it?

(I’m sorry if it has been theorized before. I just can’t read all the thread from work)

Elite Spec suggestion

Allow base professions to have access to the elite spec heal, utilities, elite and weapon. New profession mechanics (reaper’s shroud/primal burst etc.) would still be locked behind the elite spec.

Each profession would still need to unlock each skill via the current method and players would still need HoT to do so.

This would encourage build diversity while still allowing Elite specs to have an edge.
Any thoughts?

PFF!! HAHAHAHA! Funny!
Engies would be almost the same as Scrappers, only without the gimmicky Function Gyro. En PvE there would be exactly 0 difference between them.
