“your existing scores will silently be posted to the leaderboards while we watch for the top leaders to stabilize”
Does this mean only top (say top 100) players will get their data posted on these leaderboards? if so, why should i bother playing this game if i have no chance to be in top 100?

It was said that 1st days would only have top 100, then they would be increasing the range of players in the leaderbords

I hope so because the only point of having them is to know where you as a player stands in the entire thing. We don’t need to see everything but let us know what rank we are in the whole thing.

Yes. Mostly because of the lack of trinity, its more viable than a simple team deathmatch/arena. I would like more game types in their custom arenas to play for fun however.

Limit the world chest to 1 per day per character regardless of server. Boom, solved because people won’t go guest to kill a world boss if they get no loot for it. This makes it so people only guest to play with their friends on other servers and not doing it just for the loot.

It worked for League of Legends (Twisted Treeline 3v3 map). Less people play it but its a great alternative. I think if they do a 3v3 map they should NOT do conquest but instead do a typical arena/deathmatch. That would be awesome actually.

This is a performance optimization. People who are too far away from you do not show up in the world. PvP is a special case because you always want to know about your teammates. Another drawback is that your teammates will disappear from your team UI. We have one version of a solution to this in the works.

Is this something that is coming with the rumored culling patch next month where we can tweak it in options? Honestly I never had a problem seeing people on my team until recently… not sure if I am just being more observant so I have no idea how long it has actually been like this.

We are back to month 1-2 with premades farming pugs all days.

For every person that complains about fighting a premade in 1 game there are like 20 other games played vs non premades. Think about it. How many people play solo vs premades… huge difference. So no, were not back to month 1-2. We actually have an invisible rating that will match us better the more we play.

Good players will win more than they loose.
Bad players will loose more than they win.

Its that simple. If you can’t handle loosing just don’t play :-)

Clearly you have no concept of ‘competitive’ play. Pre-mades building rank vs pugs is not competitive for either side. If you think GW2 is a game where a solo player with no planning or coordination can carry a PUG team vs full pre-mades consistently, you don’t understand the game.

If I can’t get a consistent competitive match as a solo player then don’t worry, I won’t play. Nobody else will either.

I was just pointing out that you were wrong about being back to square one. Its fine if you can’t comprehend it. Anyone can claim to be competitive in anything. Sounds like you never played much to begin with if you can’t see the changes (as small as they may seem to you).

You are right about one thing though having pugs vs full premades is silly if this game wants to develop in a competitive way like LoL or SC2. Basically follow how those games do their matchmaking and its a win/win.

My point is they clearly would like to do that eventually if you ever watched any of “state of the game” interviews. It just takes time, so hold on to your pants.

Try not to think about your rating… the more you play the better the games will get in terms of matchmaking. Its like league of legends. The only difference is that you can go up against teams but they way they handled it there was they made the solo players average a higher elo to compensate for the lack of voice chat. Not sure if they do that in this system but really from what I have seen the more you play the better it averages out.

I disagree with the 1st to kill the lord because if you do this it will become a base race to the lord just like AV was in WoW when they changed AV. Basically you have team A rush on one side of the map and team B rush the other side. Games would be insanely fast and there would be no team fighting just an PVE rush to win.

Deleting the middle point would secure the base race even more because there would be no incentive to control more than 1 point.

I could be wrong but generally players tend to to follow the easiest path to the reward just like they did in AV in WoW once it was changed. Maybe they could up the incentive to kill the lord by giving more than 150 points.

Opinion about GW2 PvP

in PvP

Arisal.9740

I think what sucks the most is that they have stated multiple times that they wanted to simplify the game by having only 1 game mode. The downside is that most people that pvp want multiple game types.

Honest that was the best part of WoW pvp and I think a lot of players feel that way. Adding a simple arena mode would be huge. I wish they would reconsider doing this since they went back on their tournament ticket system. No shame in admitting they were wrong as long as they move forward.

  1. thing they need to focus on is balance. Games like League of Legends are huge because they re-balance the game in a massive way often (2-4 weeks).

They have a solid foundation and they have proven they can make maps fairly quick. (Wow I am looking at you). But they really need to start focusing on the big picture if they want more people to pvp.

Let me clarify the match making for you.

in PvP

Posted by: Arisal.9740

Arisal.9740

Just entered a 1-round tourney, got a match instantly (I pressed a solo queue button). 4 of my teammates were all under rank 10 while enemy was a premade team with lowest rank 42.

Remember everyone at the start of playing has equal MMR so rank doesn’t mean how good you are. After good amount of games your either going to go up or down and play players of similar MMR. There is a good change the enemy premade was their 1st few games so they have yet to raise their rating so they could play anyone starting off fresh rating as well. Give the system a good month before you start getting awesome games.

League of Legends was the exact same way. Just play a bunch of games and your rating will rise or fall to where it should be.

-snip-

Yes, and that’s sort of my point.

If they’re having to resort to sales this early, and are being outsold by all three of the formerly named games at their current stages of development (all three had better sales per week on average than GW2 does right now), then the odds are good that they’re not doing very well.

TERA had a sale 20 days after release (May 19th), had another one on May 26th, both at half price and another one in September (at a price of 9.99$!) only 4 months after release.

Erm, the end of April to the beginning of September is most certainly not a four month period.

That’s funny because I just looked up how Wow did in the 1st 7 years and it looks like gw2 still sold more than wow did in the same time frame: http://www.gamesetwatch.com/2011/11/seven_years_of_world_of_warcra.php

Gw2 – ~6 months to 3 million (accounts)
Wow – ~8 months to 2 million (subs)

Sure it was a different time, but common, lets not be so pessimistic. Since when did 3 million become a bad number!?

I personally look forward to all the upcoming pvp changes. If they can make the pvp in gw2 as awesome as it was in gw1 then this game will keep me busy for a very long time. It is already decent but definitely needs an arena/deathmatch game type. I know they are stoked about getting everyone to play their king of the hill type but I know that doesn’t appeal to every pvp player as much as a simple team deathmatch would. Not sure why they are so stuck on only one type. Hopefully that will change and we can see a good guild vs guild return with some leader boards and good matchmaking.

More pve content and more dungeons especially raids, yes raids!
its not like i want to turn this game into WoW but do you know why is WoW popular even after 7 years old? because it has a lot of things to do even at maximum level while GW2 doesnt have anything for PVE to offer beside 8 dungeons with medium or high diffuculty.
the game has more content for lower levels than for higher.

Anyone shares the same idea?

No, not really. More PvE content I can get behind. 5 man content. Raids? No way.

WoW doesn’t have more to do, it has more grind. Grind this rep to get that valor to buy that armor. Grind this raid to get those tokens to get the next quest to get the epic gem. Grind more rep to get more gear so you can grind rep better.

Three Months Later New stuff is released and guess what?! All that stuff you grinded for is now obsolete. There are new reps to grind! New raids to grind! New tokens to collect. Everything you just did for the last 3 months was for nothing. Wasted. Your current gear won’t even get you into the new dungeons or raid. Start grinding!

And it goes like this in one big, neverending circle.

Just because the grind in WoW is endless and has a variety of ways to annoy you, doesn’t mean it’s better.

Pretty much this. Wow is so linear at the end game its quite the opposite of GW2. I feel that there is more to do at lvl 80 in gw2 because all zones are relevant not just the end game zones or raids in wow. It’s all an illusion that wow has more to do.

I think people are used to the linear nature of wow, its hard to break free from the shackles and just play to have fun.

I think these are minor gripes but yes I agree. In fact its impossible to refute stuff like a bug is a bug. Sounds like 90% of your problems are because of bugs.

I don’t know about your overpowered/under powered claim however. In pvp certain classes are better against other classes depending on your build and I have played all classes in structured pvp and I don’t have many concerns. If you build glass cannon you kill fast but you also die fast. If you build bunker you give up a lot of dps to hold a point so it all seems pretty fair. There is a lot of tuning they could do but this game is still a gazillion times more balanced than WoW ever was IMO. That reason is simple. Everyone has the same “power level” because of gear and you can customize how you want. Of course I am only talking about structured pvp so pve and wvw its a bit different because not everyone is the same there.

Still, i will enjoy looking for these adventures too, because i don’ expect the game to cater to MY wishes, but i try to adapt to the game as it changes (hopefully for the better, sometimes not).

I think most people suffer from burnout, due to the WoW-style that imposes running to maxlevel-maxgear-cookiecutterbuild to be ready for the next “expansion” or raid.

This is pretty much how I feel. I think so many people get burnt out playing 24×7 and don’t play it to have fun. If you sit back and play it for what it offers its really is a unique and awesome game.

So many people have an idea of the perfect game for them and honestly they will never see it because no game is perfect. Just accept the game for what it is and in time maybe they will offer something similar to what you are craving. If not then there is nothing wrong with playing other games. It will always be there if you decide to give it another chance down the road.

I liked Phases 1-3 of the event, things like the whales and the mysterious posters were very well done. I thought Phase 2 and 3 were all right as well. ArenaNet fixed the scavenger hunt bugs quickly enough and it made my character explore some new areas which is the point to scavenger hunts.

Phase 4, however, was a lag-filled and buggy disaster. Did anyone really experience smooth and non-laggy gameplay during it? I really hope that ArenaNet learns from the multitude of mistakes ranging from the basic design to overall implementation. It would be extremely depressing if they only listened to praise and did the same thing all over again.

I am curious what you think was phase 4? Each of the 3 days had a one time event. The ONLY time I had lag was on day 1 event (Friday) in LA. During the last event I had zero on an overflow for 2.5 hours. Outside of the culling and the 2 30 minute spawn a gazillion guys events I had no issues.

I really like this idea. It would be a way to make a raid like dungeon yet not in the typical mmo raid sense. Only thing I would change is remove the events where the ancient karka spawned guys that took 30 minutes to kill (2 times!). This would cut it down from 2.5 hrs to 1.5 on average. Even better they could scale this to be a dynamic size maybe 10-30 people who knows.

If they ever do a raid fractals this would be an awesome place to start.

Do realize that by doing what they did w/ precursors was great for the econ because its making the over inflated prices drop like a rock which is exactly what everyone wanted since they were getting a bit out of hand. I still remember when dusk was 60g on the tp and that was the most expensive thing you could buy on the tp when it finally went up.

I didn’t get a precursor and I am quite happy w/ how they handled it so far. Those that did the event but had dc’s I hope get compensated by the way. Removing precursors would be TERRIBLE for the economy. Please use your head.

I was able to get in for the 1 time events each of the 3 days and the only time I had issues was on Friday because of the lag. Friday night tried the fractals dungeon. Easily one of the best times I have had in game by far. So much fun even though we had 1 of our party dc on the 3rd fractal. That colossus fractal was just so amazing. Great concept and fight mechanics!

The Sunday event was amazing even though they could have done without the part where the ancient summons guys for like 30 minutes (2 times!). Would have cut the whole thing down from 2.5 hours to 1.5 which would have been perfect but none the less I had a great time and it was pretty lag free even with 50-100 people fighting. There was still the culling issue where players and mobs would go invisible outside of your location around you so that is annoying but still worked in the end.

Overall loved it for what it was. Thank you ArenaNet!

Thoughts on Ascended Gear? [Merged threads]

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Wow the drama. To inform most people that didn’t play the 1st game, gw1 had infusion. Basically it was applied to your gear and it reduced the damage of a certain type of enemy. If they follow this same logic your exotic gear is NOT replaced by a new tier of gear.

If anything its either going to go 2 ways. Its another form of horizontal progression and that it will apply to existing gear like an runes do. Or it will be specific to dungeons and function sort of like vertical progression for that type of content. If that is case then your PvE experience outside dungeons is NOT affected in the slightest.

Either way I would wait for more information before crying about it.

There is a lot going on, new stuff weekend after this one.

But not that much has changed, cuz we’re still in the post-launch tryin to get the bugs worked out stage of the game.

Has PvP improved at all? Last time I did PvP it seemed like it was fairly unfair for melee classes – and while I’m pretty used to melee getting the shaft after 10+ years of MMOs, it’s still a little disappointing when every WvWvW degenerates into a ranged AoE Spamfight

My warrior is my main and I have no problem jumping in w/ either sword + warhorn or a greatsword on WvW. Also have you tried sPvP? caugh backstab theif can 2 shot other glass cannons and last time I checked warriors and guardians are amazing there as well. It really all depends on how you build your character. Try experimenting w/ builds in the mists and practice them in sPvP.

“What kind of question is this….have you played a game when an EXPANSION PACK was free?”

Yes – Eve online has had over 17 expansions free.

To be fair, the PLEX->ISK-> Ship->Floating Wreck cycle has allowed them to tap into vast amounts of money. Those were also often times more like large content updates than strict expansions.

Yes if you talk about each expansion/content update; but over the past 9 years the game is nothing like its original incarnation. If you played the game since it came out you would understand that over those years the game has changed quite a bit.

Yeah calling it an expansion could be a stretch for some but over all of them they added so much more to the game its mind blowing. I would say its equal to a good 5 “WOW” sized expansions. Especially Apocrypha when they added like 6000 wormholes.

Gold actually has value in this game. It’s alot like eve online really in terms of a real player driven market based on the value of goods. In most other MMOs gold has no value because your best stuff is bind on pickup (cough raid gear). That is not the case here so its like apples to oranges. I know I will never be super wealthy in this game and I am fine w/ it because that means items have a certain value ELSE everyone would have everything…. and that is pretty kitten boring.

Just imagine if everyone ran around w/ a Legendary… not so legendary anymore huh. Just think about purples in wow. Back in vanilla THEY actually meant something.

In other words the market is working as intended due to supply and demand :-)

The thing is this game shares all the same concepts of the 1st game while being more like an actual mmo. What do you not like about gw2? Guild wars has always been about horizontal scaling rather than vertical and no required grinding (optional unlike other mmos which you run the tier gear hamster wheel).
