triforge pendant still not worth it

I never understood why that thing is so expensive. I can get other exotic amulets with the same stats at a fraction of the price. And it’s not like this amulet is a vanity item, no one but you can even see it. Hell even ascended trinkets are easier to obtain (laurels, guild commendations).

You might not understand this, but not all vanity items need to be on display.

Yes thats against the carrot on a stick mentality of MMOs but some people just like to have a certain item regardless of how other think of them.

I still think they should give Eles 2 sets and allow swapping out of combat only.

But then again things like being able to save builds and swap builds by pressing a button out of combat would be awesome for all classes. (Which is why its never going to happen)

I personally gave up on using my ele for anything but boss events because not being able to change weapons sucks. Especially because 1-2 of your attunements are usually worthless depending on your build.

Which class best affected by haste?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Arkinos.7245

Arkinos.7245

I love haste with the Engi Flamethrower. I’m not sure if that’s the best performance but couple that with rabid and bleed on crit sigil … it’s fun

Haste does nothing for that because the Flamethrower already has such a high rate of fire and most on hit effects have internal cooldowns.

Haste would benefit other weapons with on hit sigils by helping them to apply the on hit faster after the cooldown wears off, but the FT is very good with on hit effects precisely because it already does that.

All builds based on basic attacks really love haste.
Some examples I know:
Axe Warriors
Sword Guardians
Sword Mesmers
Staff Fire Eles
Dagger Thieves
Sword Rangers

Why the hints of Cantha?

Arkinos.7245

Who says anet was removed everything related to Cantha?

I dont think thats the case.

The problem with DR’s western district was not that its Canthan, the problem was that it mixed various asian styles into a supposedly Canthan style.

It was the mix that would be a problem in China, if they made Cantha a 1 to 1 copy of chinese culture and portrayed it positively, nobody would have cared.

But the mix was basically an insult because there are still a lot of tensions between China, Japan, Korea, Taiwan, etc and it felt like Arenanet was going with a stereotipical “its asian because it looks like the china restaurant next street” look.

It’s a small number of very very very vocal people asking for it ><

Also Conncept: You can’t both complain about instadeath attacks and in the same breath talk about how useless defenses are. Most attacks aren’t actually Touch-of-death unless you’re running pure DPS stats.

There are a lot of instadeath bosses.
Dont forget that an Ele with soldier gear is about as tanky as a Berserker Warrior.
Full Zerk eles and Thieves die like flies in melee range.

And yes the boss system based on oneshot abilities is the reason why defense sucks.

Because it doesnt matter that you die in 2 hits rather than 1, that means you will live 10 seconds rather than 5 if you do not dodge.

So if 90% of your defense are based on dodging anyway, you might as well go full damage and kill the boss twice as fast, reducing the number of hits you have to take/dodge.

Well, can't do daily again.

This thread will most likely be moved to the daily feedback anyway.

But yeah the problem today is the 21-30 fractal which cant be done without preparation.
I asked in LA if its possible to do this level without AR and was told not to.

And yes you shouldnt do the event dailies.
Its typically a horrible experience to do them.

I personally only run the daily when its convenient, mostly when things like harvesting and vistas are up.

Event completion just takes way too long and forces you to deal with people that you wouldn’t even want on your server tbh.

The problem is that most buffs work only on 5 people at once.

This doesnt matter in large zergs because those are not reliable anyway.

But it would matter in organized bossfights with 10 people where might stacking and buff use suddenly becomes very random.

Unless the target limit for buffs is increased, I dont see how we could get instanced content for groups of more then 5 people.

Somebody should also explain what exactly is the difference between raids and the dungeons we have right now, other than the number of people (which doesnt really change the experience).

I also agree that this is too much, not to mention the fact that you HAVE to hit an interrupt, just daze won’t count.

I made a decision that I will do 10 interrupts a day (done for today) till I get 100.
Now I just got in the game, wait for that buff and chase people around giving them a free kill just as long as I can interrupt them once. Usually I fail cause the animations are just slow, but yeah I get eventually 10 for my ‘daily’.

Sorry I’m ruining the game for the rest of my team for giving free kills for the enemy but thank the achievement

So arenanet encourages players to waste points and make their team lose just to get the achievement…

For me, yes. I wanna get the achievement cause I like to collect them. And the fastest way to do it is by the method I am currently doing.

Not by playing it normally, having fun and doing it to win a match.

If I were you I would be worried about reports, especially now that you spelled it out on the forums.

From both a PvE and PvP perspective, its better to have CC with diminishing returns than it is to have really crappy CC with no DRs. Like when fighting multiple risen brutes, its pretty easy to just get knock-down locked to death.

Thats not even the worst: Brutes will try to stun if again if you dodge, sometimes instantly after dodging.

Once they stun you, they will stop using it.

Signature Weapons for each Profession

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Arkinos.7245

While a fun to think about premise, this is an incredibly bad idea in practice. Having single class weapons would result in major additional development costs for the art team because that would effectively double the number of different weapons they have to make skins for.

As it is each weapon currently is unique for each profession and weapons server no normal attack purpose to otherwise differentiate themselves. So having unique weapons would add very little to the game.

what is a waste of dev time again?

Making new skins for 8, soon 9 weapon types.

Keep in mind there are tons of skin sets that cover all weapon and armor types.

Making 9 new skins for all those sets simply isnt worth it.

Buncha selfish people, “omg if I stop to rez, I ll fail the event” Ya, maybe… But if Everyone was standing where they are supposed to be, and not spread out, the group could speed rez anyone downed fast enough. Half the events fail because people still treat them at solo events, while standing next to other people, soloing the same event. Every man/woman for themselves. Seems the majority of players still don’t understand the concept of splashes and skills that become 100 times more powerful when used with others.

The problem is that you cant always see if somebody is downed or dead in the heat of the moment.
I typically only ress if I can get some sort of confirmation that its a downed, not dead.

If I am not sure I wont ress and keep my dps up.
You can thanks the lazy people that dont WP when dead for not being ressed when downed.

The problem with ress vs wp aren’t the lazy people that cry for ress, the problem are the people that actually ress the dead.

Those saying Engie has no range abilities/weapons seem to miss out that the Rifle is a 1200 weapon, the pistols can be traited to about the same range, Elixer gun is 1200, Grenades can be up to about 1500 range. You can (and I have) make a very successful range Engie., especially if you like turrets.

The rifle’s basic attack is worthless, the real dps come from 3 and 5 which are both melee range. Rifle also has only 1000 range on the basic attack, not 1200.

Pistols cant be used properly in groups because of the condi caps.
Flame Thrower has ~400 range which is a little bit more than some GS aoes.

Explain - zerker and active defenses?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Arkinos.7245

Arkinos.7245

The problem isnt berserker gear.
It does what it should do: increase your damage.

The problem is that everything else is worthless in most pve situations.

Vit/Toughness is useless because bosses will down you in 1-2 hits either way, and trash mobs die instantly vs a group. Vit also works only once per fight. You have 5k more hp you can take 5k more damage over the course of the entire fight, thats not much.

Condition damage is useless because its capped and takes time to ramp up.

Healing power is useless because the scaling of healing skills is pathetic.
A max healing power build will typically heal 50% more than a zerk build, some skills dont even get a 50% improvement.

GS (and swords) are just well balanced weapons with some mobility, some cc and absurd damage.

Mesmer use GS because its a damage focused weapon rather than the more support focused staff or the condi heavy sceptre.

Make Black Lion chest a rare drop.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Arkinos.7245

Arkinos.7245

The high drop rates are a psychological thing to encourage buying keys.

The point is that players feel they lose something if they give away a chest of goodies.

After all you have the chest, and the good stuff is inside, so you basically hold the precious items in your very hands. Now if you could just open it…

BLC’s take up a valuable position on the loot table, increasing the chance that you’ll still not get a decent drop.

Drops dont work like that.

No back when people had fun while figuring out dungeons and werent kicked from groups for not having full zerk builds.

Games are always more fun when they are new, because everything is new and exiting. You can have a lot of fun wiping in dungeons because everybody does.

Right now GW2 is basically in a global farm mode where everything is figured out and optimized to death and people run whatever content they run for the hundredth time.

So I thought about coming back...

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Arkinos.7245

Arkinos.7245

Builds are a little less critical until you start facing more challenging content like Orr. The rest of the game is pretty easy and not really trait dependant. Yeah, it can make it a bit easier, but it’s not absolutely critical. The right armor, weapons and skill choices will have more of an impact.

That said, not having anything to look forward to at each level does make for a dull leveling experience.

A lot of classes require certain traits to make builds useful.
Playing a grenade engi without the extra grenade trait is useless.

The problem is: if you want to check out a new class you need to level it to 80, then go buy traits to finally be able to see if its fun in pve.

Thats dumb.

Especially since the current system for utility skills explicitly allows you to unlock what you want, whenever you want.

So half of your character can be unlocked on demand, and the other half is level gated.

Good design.

Wait, so they completely botched the game with the trait system (among other things) and now you guys are all paying for an expansion to have that stuff fixed?

lol

Thats how the gaming industry works nowadays.

Fanboys defend bad game design or obviously removed features by telling people to buy the DLC that fixes that.

How to cancel LS2 altogether

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Arkinos.7245

Arkinos.7245

To quit an episode, you open the story journal and click the button in the same way you start it.

What part exactly is the problem?

I ran through some of it on my alt thief in terrible gear (only rares, no runes) and with no traits for a little while. For any mob packs, just keep up the pistol offhand blind AoE and auto attack.

The problem is that you cant quit the LS altogether unless you have completed it.

If you quit one episode the game will automatically active the next one for you, and if you quit the last it will activate the first again.

It is currently not possible to quit LS.

Edit: as far as thieves go: DD is actually quite nice for tough missions.

DD3 can be used to heal yourself up very fast if you have to because it hits 3 times per enemy, healing almost 400 hp for every enemy you hit. If you spam it a few times you can easily go from almost dead to full HP.

You should also use the elite skill that summons backup, if only to get some meat to take hits for you.

Its about subjective things and most importantly: the holy grail aka dont make players feel like their efforts arent worth anything.

Skill grind: you dont lose anything, whatever you got previously is still useful and you build onto that, rather than replacing it.

Soldier gear - good or useless?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Arkinos.7245

Arkinos.7245

Soldier gear is fine for a lot of pvp situations.
Celestial seems to be slightly better but Soldier is still perfectly viable.

Outside of epic bosses, it doesnt have much of a place in pve though.
You should start replacing soldier gear with more offensive gear, especially for solo pve.

But it doesnt hurt to keep a set of soldier gear around for your chars, especially if its already soulbound and the only alternative is salvaging.

If you are looking for more defensive gear for the future, I would check out Valkyrie or Knight for pve.

And its generally best to avoid “METAZERK EXP 10k AP+” groups anyway so dont worry about those.
