You cant change stats on anything but Legendaries once you get it.

Some items allow you to pick stats before you use them the first time but thats it.

Stackeable conditions and power builds

Arkinos.7245

Example of removed condi cap: Might stacking, Berserker Engi now maintains 25+ Bleeds, 25+ Vulnerability, has access to nearly every condi option in the game, does huge amounts of AoE damage, and has access to (argueably) the most defensive options in a single Power build in the entire game. 3+ Zerker Engis becomes the new meta with with only Warrior and Ranger having anything unique to add to this build comp.

This idea would be totally sweet for maybe a day (for Power builds ironically) and then fail miserably with all the QQ threads about Engis doing 25k+ DPS…. (“Another Engi bursted me down before I even rendered him!”,etc)

Condi caps shouldn’t be removed, only raised for ranked npcs based on rank.
The exact numbers should be worked out by anet, its their game after all, but the basic principle would be easy and not affect pvp at all.

Since players are not ranked targets, nothing would change.

If absolutely necessary, the base damage on bleeds could be reduced in favor of better condi scaling.

The problem is that 90% of the JPs are based on a struggle between the player and the camera because the actual jumps are completely trivial. Adding that to the fact that the camera wasn’t changed since release probably means that nothing is going to happen.

Simply increase the bleeding caps based on NPC rank. 25 stacks are fine for basic enemies, but Veterans, Elites and Champions could have much higher bleeding caps (say 50 for Veterans, 100 for Elites, 200 for Champs, 500 for Legendaries and 1000 for epic NPCs)

This would also not change anything for pvp which is good.

RNG as a concept: Discuss

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Arkinos.7245

Arkinos.7245

RNG isnt bad in itself, but it should be used very carefully.
The TP also helps dealing with bad luck and unwanted RNG results so RNG should be limited to tradeable items.

Example of good RNG: Exotic item drops are fine because even if you get a bad exotic you can always sell or salvage it and use it to further whatever goal you currently have.

Even if the item isnt optimal for you, you ultimately gain something from being lucky.

Example of bad RNG: Ascended chests. Those are incredibly bad because you can end up getting a chest that you dont need. It doesn’t matter why you dont need it. You cant really sell the chest or its content (unless you sell a weapon to an NPC for 1g…) so despite getting supremely lucky you end up with basically nothing because you cant compensate the problems of the RNG system with trading or salvaging.

I also greatly prefer token based systems with planable results to luck based system where you pray for a good drop.

These armor skirts are actually the realistic version.

Basically: its hard to armor a crotch without being uncomfortable.
So they wear lightly or unarmored pants and wear this “skirt” to protect the crotch.

There are gremlins that build flying pyramids, but making a chainmail crotch is too tall of an order.

lmao.

I love when people come with “but in reality”.

Tyria is a mixed world of magic, medieval times and amazing scientific discoveries.

And IF the realism was the factor… why is there even light or medium armour?
all professions get sent into fray of battle….they should all be wearing chainmail.

The point is: Everything we see ingame comes from somewhere.

Arenanet will obvious design armors based on actual armors.
And no in reallife it wasn’t just chainmail for all either.

The heavy armors ingame also cover a massive range from what would be a light armor irl to full plate armor which has nothing to do with heavy armor and for the most part wasnt used by infantry, ever.

There is one story that branches slightly here and there based on decisions in the game and your character. (There is a race arc, a history arc based on the backround you pick during character creation, etc)

But its fundamentally the same story.

Once you hit 80 you either play other classes, farm skins, ascended items or legendaries or go pvp&wvw.

Arenanet will never just remove these things.

Removing them or returning them to what they were before the feature patch means admitting a mistake. I have only seen a single MMO publisher that ever did this.

They will take several months and come up with a new solution they can sell as something new rather than going back to something old because thats better for PR.

I would personally prefer to make NPE account based so new players that are confused by having 5 skills can get there slowly while vets only have to bother with this once.
But this is too simple of a solution and therefore wont happen.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

The question becomes, if they’re supposed to be underwhelming, then why are they in the game? Like, if Asura have awesome golems, and Norn have cool transformations, and humans have awesome avatar, Charr get cool warbands and charrzookas and Sylvari get cool spirits, whats the problem? Having a bunch of unsatisfying skills that don’t get used doesn’t seem like the answer to me.

Because one of these skills might be so well suited to a specific challenge like a certain dungeon that people will only take players that play the proper race, etc.

Basically: a lot of very different skills are very difficult to balance vs each other so Arenanet made them all weak to make sure none of those ends up giving somebody an advantage over others.

That just seems unfair. Surely if they punish the scammer, they know that someone was hurt from what they did. So should they not repay the person/people who got scammed?

You were dumb and greedy.

Arenanet will punish the scammer for violating the rules.

But why should they repay you for a loss that you suffered because you tried to avoid the trading system they want you to use?

You deserve your loss, be happy the scammer will get punished and use the TP next time.

Ranger or Thief or Engineer?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Arkinos.7245

To be honest: if you want a ranged character, make a Ranger.

Thief is mostly melee and Engineers will be melee most of the time as well for better grenade accuracy, bombs or properly using their rifle (which is effectively a melee weapon)

Ranger or Thief or Engineer?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Arkinos.7245

Arkinos.7245

Thieves are hard to play and incredibly fragile, but they hit like a truck in melee range.
Their ranged weapons suck tbh, pistols are just weak while bow doesnt have very high single target dps, but is great for aoe dps and utility.

Engineers are very versatile, but at least for my taste they depend too much on gimmicks and their direct/weapon dps is somewhat low.
I personally also dont like being forced to use kits (especially grenades and bombs) for a good performance most of the time because all weapon are weird/weak.

Rangers can be played very casually and are probably the only class with a truly good ranged weapon that doesnt make any compromise for either range or damage.
They are also quite mobile, especially with their melee weapons.
The only downside is that they dont offer much utility for groups. Most of the time you’ll use spotter and (frost?!?) spirit because the other spirits arent great.
Ranger is somewhat easy to play too.

Zerker Discussion

Arkinos.7245

Reducing mob health will only make the Meta groups kill faster which would still keep it more viable than anything else.

Not if you increase NPC armor to reach the same levels of effective hp.

If NPC armor is raised then meta groups will have slower kill times but nonmeta groups will still have poor dps resulting in even slower kill times. That would not change the meta, only make nonmeta builds that much worse.

Example
Meta group 10kdps
Nonmeta group 5k dps

Lets cut the dps in half to simulate extra armor on mobs shall we ?

Meta group 5kdps
Nonmeta group 2.5k dps

Which one will get faster kill times?

We just have to accept the fact that no matter what the devs do in this game, there will ALWAYS be the “best” way to build/gear your character.

How about this:

Zerker group: 10k dps raw damage
Condi Group: 5k dps conditions

Reduce NPC health by 50% and double armor. (the total effective hp against raw damage are identical)

The Zerk group has to go through just as much effective HP than before, taking just as much time.
The condi group now has to burn only half as much HP, which means they now need as much time as the zerker group for the boss.

This assumes higher stack limits for bosses, which is also not hard to do.

PvP problems: none

So op realizes that this is a pve problem and that attempting to “revamp” a system that is rooted in the game’s foundation is the same as scraping that game and making a new one.

Its actually possible to fix the condition damage issue for pve without any pvp changes.

As the op said, reducing NPC health while increasing armor would do a lot.

Then increase the stack sizes for bleeding and similar conditions for all ranked (Veteran+) NPCs based on ranks and you have a pve only fix for a pve only problem.

Poll: What is the size of your guild?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Arkinos.7245

Arkinos.7245

Guild size doesnt really matter imo.

If anything the actual guild size is how much people have logged in within the last 3 days.

Somebody logging in once a weak doesnt really contribute anything to a guild unless the guild has some sort of primetime when all log in.

that depends. We have such events as Teamspeak Fridays. People who join in once a week, twice a month, once a month even still contribute to the chatter, to the feel good attitude and to the overall happiness of the guild.

A game is not a prison. It shouldn’t be something you have to do. It has to be a place that you want to come back to and for that to happen guilds should really not care how often you do that. After all we all have lives

You didnt read my post, at all.

I said that if a guild has a primetime when everybody logs into the game, this is perfectly fine.

If the guild doesnt, then there is a good chance that 30 “active” people logging in once a week for a couple of hours will never manage to get as much as a dungeon run together.

I see people playing this build in the game today. What makes you feel it’s no longer effective?

Shaman comes with condition damage.
Condition damage is useless.

If he wants healing power, he should get Cleric or Zealot.

Not bringing back S1 is not just a kick in the face of people that missed it for whatever reason, it also bad for NPE.

This is actually the single most annoying problem with the game right now.

GW2 is a story heavy game.
But as it stands right now: about half of the story is not available and everybody has to put up with a story that comes out of nowhere and NPCs they have never seen.

The least they could do is allowing people to completely disable the story if they wont fix it. I hate that green crap cluttering up my screen.

…people would still use glass gear?

you realise if people need an extra dodge they just stick on an energy sigil or trait for vigour, right?

and what is the rationale behind making a stat which makes you not have to dodge as much … allow you to dodge more?

It actually makes a lot of sense.

Vitality is a defensive stat, dodging helps defense even when HP does not because you get oneshot.

Hence, adding endurance boni to vitality would make it useful in more situations than it currently is while keeping its role as a core defense stat.

Mind you its not going to happen because Arenanet will never do anything about the Zerk meta, but its not a bad idea.
