You still have the same number of HP you earned before. You also still have the option to not play the elite spekittenil you have earned 400 points.
What on earth makes you think a “refund” makes me feel better about putting in effort that gives absolutely nothing?
And “pretending it still costs 400 hero points” is incredibly short sighted. Since other people are still getting the same stuff I get. Except they don’t get to lift a finger for it.
I said nothing about a refund.
No pretending. If someone feels that 400 HP is the appropriate cost for the elite, then they can choose to not play it until they have earned it.
What other people have is none of your concern.
No one gets anything without lifting a finger.
Its not as if we are talking about something that required overcoming some great challenge or skill to earn.
Am I the only “casual” who dislikes this change? I was quite enjoying playing the game for a few days working to unlock it. I almost got to 400 points too. And now all that hard work is being invalidated because a bunch of people want instant gratification. If you play casual, stuff takes longer. I like it that way.
Plus, the whole “QQ wins again” makes me fear for the future.
You still have the same number of HP you earned before. You also still have the option to not play the elite spekittenil you have earned 400 points.
Yes. I have no idea why they don’t make things like this sellable. But gosh. You don’t have to trash it. You’re in luck. They put in a mystic forge recipe last year.
Recipe
1 Mini Gwynefyrdd
13 Chattering Skull
13 Plastic Fangs
13 Nougat CenterOutput
One Candy Corn CobbNow, don’t you feel all better. ^^
Now that is funny.
Seems like a good move to me.
If Elite Specs had been elite, something better than what characters had access to before their implementation, then I could see them being used as rewards. As alternative play style mechanics it seems appropriate for them to be accessible earlier in the process of playing the new content.
The cool thing is that those who want to think of them as character progression can choose to not play an elite spekittenil after they have earned 400 HP, and so keep that sense of rewarding themselves through play if they like.
With all of the redundant posts on this forum regarding elite specializations being gated behind a heap of prerequisite hero points, I thought it would be fun to play devil’s advocate. Ultimately, I think the issue isn’t the number of points required to unlock them, but the nature of how difficult the HoT hero challenges are.
Here’s why I believe the hero point requirement should not be changed:
1) You don’t need your elite spec to play through HoT.
2) It’s an elite spec – it shouldn’t be cheap by its nature.
3) It incentivizes map completion and/or WvW participation.
4) You don’t need the entire line unlocked for it to be used (or even useful).
5) Keeping them character bound keeps it in line with non-elite specs. Most of the complaints I’ve seen about the hero point requirements seem to come from our culture of entitlement (I should get it now – or at least sooner – because I want it now).
That all said, I do think there is a HUGE problem with the fact that it’s almost impossible (or in some cases very difficult) to solo the hero challenges in the new zones. If someone is serious about unlocking their elite specialization, they should be able to do it with or without their friends and guildies.
1) Need is an interesting choice of wording. People don’t need to buy the expansion. They do so, presumably, because they want it. Just as many people want the elite specs.
2) elite is being used as a proper noun here. The word elite means superior. The devs have stated that the elite specs are not supposed to be superior to normal specs. So, the elite specs are not supposed to actually be elite. If they are not superior to baseline specs then it is perhaps off for them to cost more.
3) There may be a problem with content if it is not fun to complete without bribes, but such is the norm in MMOs.
4) As soon as you equip an elite spec initially you have lowered your total power level. Elite specs are character regression. You then, of course, have the option to work toward returning to where you started in terms of power.
5) I agree with them being character bound.
Never understood the mindset of someone who believes that they can tell others how to have fun.
Encouraging creators to believe that they have achieved perfection and should ignore criticism is a bad idea.
Just so we have an idea of where we stand votes are as follows:
REMINDER 0=NO FUN AT ALL, 10=MOST FUN I’VE EVER HAD!(score given) – (number of votes)
0 – 25
1 – 12
2 – 21
3 – 20
4 – 13
5 – 7
6 – 6
7 – 8
8 – 18
9 – 15
10 – 11Averaging 4.37/10
Not ideal, but only 150ish reviews
Its up to 6.9/10 on Metacritic with 330 votes.
This system wasn’t meant to be easy, it was meant to help people get to their precursor in small steps of progression. If you want your precursor in 1 day, buy it of the TP, it saves you allot of time and effort. If you can’t afford this, do the collection, progress a bit every week to eventually get it.
This is supposed to bridge the huge goldgap of a precursor by adding small stepping stones, but in the end, it’s not gonna be easier or cheaper. If you expected that then you were kidding yourself.
Yeah, its going to take longer and cost more. So its a step back in every way. Whats the point then.
From what has been said, the point is to be able to bypass the precursor drop RNG.
That’s it.
Anyone who thought this would be easy or a short method was kidding themselves.
I didn’t think it would either easy or short and I was totally ok with that. But these numbers have me concerned. Why bother going through the hassle of putting together a precursor if you’re only saving 4 gold from buying it off the TP? You have to do a lot of work to make this happen. Shouldn’t the price be commensurately lower?
Anet has no control over TP pricing. It remains to be seen where prices will settle now that HoT has gone live.
Several people in a scattering of threads claim to have done so.
Contact support and ask.
The score is going up. It was 3.9 earlier.
will you be celebrating once it stagnates at 6, my friend ?
Celebrating?
What are you talking about?
listen bud stop being a weenie over this
this expansion was a bust, so at least the people who play the game and are not completely deluded should recognize that
What does that have to do with what I said or referring to me as, “celebrating?”
listen bud quit being a weenie over this
Seriously, what are you going on about?
I noted that the score is currently higher than it was a few hours ago. You know, made an accurate and honest post. Can’t say I am happy with the current trend, but I am not going to lie about it.
Personally I hope that HoT scores very low because I do not care for verticality, jumping puzzles, or general platformer style gameplay and hope that a poor score for HoT will encourage Anet to avoid emphasizing this sort of content in the future.
I would like to suggest that you make a minipet of me…..yes im serious.
it would constantly update to wear whatever i was wearing and to use whichever of my characters was logged in at the time (or last one logged in)
people all over tyria would buy it and excitedly wait to see what today’s outfit would be….plus ive got like literally 100 transmutation charges so you can be sure id be happy to spend them in the name of fashionable variety for all to enjoy
this minipet would cost 1000 gems, none of that cheap 800 gem nonesense for a mini of me
You should totally get a 5% cut of all gems spent to buy your minipet.

So unless you buy directly from anet and pay their blatant rip off price they’ll take away what you payed for without a second thought. LOL anet, way to make yourselves look worse.
If you buy something from someone who doesn’t own it, has no right to sell it, its your problem if/when the owner reclaims their property.

What disappoints me is … you’re all kittening on it because there is the slightest bit of challenge.
So you are disappointing yourself then? Because that is not a common complaint. I have not seen anyone complain that there is the slightest bit of challenge, but giving you the benefit of the doubt that there is someone out there who did, still leaves your depiction inaccurate.

Not so much the OP, but read the comments section.
No one in that thread spoke against the idea of the slightest bit of challenge. One did have this to say:
I have accepted that this game will be much more of a challenge for me. Doesn’t mean I won’t try and work past it though.
Accepting much more challenge, and trying to work past it.

I can’t believe so many people feel this is a “grind”. Seriously. Why do you people play this game if you don’t like the content.
Some people want elite specs to play in different content. They perhaps like the core game content or WvW and bought the expansion specifically for the elite specs to add some spice to content they do enjoy and want to play.
The score is going up. It was 3.9 earlier.
EDIT: I will say this again, someone BOUGHT this with 50 bucks, from arenanet, then gave it to me for 30. That’s not fraudulent, not in the slightest.
If it was not an Anet authorized retailer then selling the key would have been a violation of the ToS. Remember that accounts are not transferable.

While I do intend to wait and see what the reaction is, I feel those putting bad scores to the expansion already are entirely justified.
Absolutely.
The product has been shipped. Customers have paid for it. Reviews, positive or negative, are justified.
The point of the system is to give you an alternative to farming gold to get the precursor. You aren’t supposed to just buy all the items off the TP.
Way to miss the purpose entirely.
And as far as the cost goes, HoT just launched. Everyone is trying out the new system causing the price of things to go up with demand which is why precursor prices are falling because less people are just buying a completed one.
The point of the changes was to give an option of bypassing the trading post and RNG entirely. Anyone who thought this would be easy or a short method was kidding themselves.
This.
Don’t have an answer for you, but I agree that is a very interesting skin.
I really hope not.
we are asking cuz when commanders are organizing events you cant tell in chat who they are. its no different than mentors have a tag in chat when they speak example below
Example of the Current mentor tag in chat:
Mentor Abrahel The Fluffy: Ok so you need some help?Example of the Suggested Commander tag in Chat:
Commander Abrahel The Fluffy: Ok Escorts Meet us at wurms once your done==============
so basically the commander tag could be the color ur tagged up as for when we have big events that people are leading in and we can more easily see which commander is talking.
I get why you want it, but years of seeing commander tags used, not to command, but to clutter the map, leaves me hoping that this does not happen.
I really hope not.

Not that I agree with the OP.
This just in
GW1 wasnt a mmo
The only way in which it did not fit some people’s narrow definition of an MMORPG is the lack of a persistent world…which has nothing to do with leveling, grind, etc.
I bet you think diablo 2 and 3 are mmos.
How much are you willing to bet?

When I bought Guild wars 2 I bought it for ONE reason, to play all the classes and when I first logged on I realised all my profession traits were gated behind a stupid leveling system!
Imagine my dismay when I couldn’t unlock any of my skills until I reached level 40, 60 and 80.
Note the sarcasm*
And at level 80 you have all three spec lines fully maxed out…
…Unless one of them is an elite spec at which point you are effectively sub level 80 while playing in a post 80 zone vs post 80 opposition.
Why was the other thread “I want a refund” locked. That’s pretty sleazy Anet, there was good information about people getting a refund back if they were unhappy. How conventient it’s now locked and this thread remains open…again Anet stooping to another new low.
This thread is more critical and negative about HoT than the other. How is it a new low if Anet are leaving the worst commentary up?
In the long term you will unlock all of the traits in all of the trees by level 80. Don’t worry too terribly much about what might or might not be the most efficient thing to do at this level. Fire is a good tree to start with as early content readily played with a focus on DPS.
The entire Jungle zone is full of mobs that spam attacks that one shot players. Just one mistake or miss timed dodge and your instantly out the fight.
Isn’t an encounter where you have to know what you are doing and act on that knowledge with good timing, without mistake, the essence of challenge and skill based play?
A mob where you can ignore or not execute techniques properly and still win is kind of the antithesis of skill based play and challenge.
The problem is, that in open world you have also often respawns while you fight.
So what would work pretty good in an instance, where you have place to dodge
and have maybe cleared the surrounding area before a hard fight, doesn’t work
in open world where you maybe also have cleared the area, then start the fight
and then when that mushroom knocked you down and you just stand up and
wantt to continue, a beetle vet spawns with 3 small beetles, that all knock you
down again and again .. and then the mushrooms knock you down again ..yeah .. thats really much fun .. the challenge not to smash the keyboard into your
monitor.
Solid point about respawn timers and mob density.
My point was specifically about his apparent concern about player failure to execute play tactics and mechanics.

That is enough to feel like a reaper and enjoy playing it. You absolutely don’t need 400 HP to enjoy playing a reaper.
You might want to consider changing the word, “you,” to, “I,” as you cannot really speak for what someone else enjoys.
When you make your character he doesn’t pop out level 80 with all skills, he is sub-optimal.
Then you progress in the game to build your character.
Expansion is no different.
Hope this helps.
When you first create a character he is level one in a level one area facing level one foes. Training an elite spec means playing your character at essentially sub level 80 while in a post 80 zone facing post 80 opponents. Its not progressing your character, its regressing him and then working your way back up to where you were before.
Not really regressing anything. All classes are perfectly capable of playing the entire expansion without their elite spec. He/She still has their awesome gear, existing traits and weapon choices that have worked and WILL work for the game, until maybe the Raids are released.
A character that equips an elite spec initially has fewer active traits, etc, than a character with all three of his spec lines assigned to core specs. This means that he is regressing his power level by equipping the elite spec. He then can level up the elite spec to return to the power level he was at (three fully active specs) prior to equipping the elite spec.
And yet that is the players choice to spec an unfinished line. Same thing with 1-80. You can unlock multiple trait lines but only use 1 until a certain level. It is the players choice to play with an unfinished spec line if he or she so chooses.
And missing a couple traits is not going to stop you from finishing the content either…but like I said, Raids are probably going to be different.
Nothing is regressed…you are adding more possibility.
With three core specs active you have more traits active than when you initially begin training an elite spec. I didn’t say that it wasn’t the player’s choice to equip the elite spec line, but he is, by definition, choosing to regress his power level. Six traits is greater than one, or two, or three, etc. Eventually he will restore his power level by reaching a point where the entire elite spec is unlocked and his total number of active traits is where it was before. At that point he even has increased potential variety…but he had to regress his character first.

they also needed way more cosmetics. Those should have been some of the main goals. Get Jungle style armor, get the weapons designed by the hidden forge master, get the armor designed by cutest fashion frog.
This bears repeating.

Not having everything day 1=impossible grind?
You are literally attempting to use your own misunderstanding of the topic as a rebuttal against a 100% vaild point that has been expressed for several months now
This “expansion” is just Living World Season 3 behind a pay wall…. stretched out with gating and grinding in an attempt to get “expansion size gameplay hours”.
Didnt know LS 1 and 2 had new WvW maps, new massive world maps, Guild Halls, a new class and new sub classes, a new PvP mode and PvP leagues.
Cmon anet, where you hiding all that missing content?
The expansion doesnt include new WvW or SPvP mode, either.
I also totally agree with the OP. Original storylines were doable even if you were not the recommended level, but that changed so you had to be the correct level before progressing story. This was a bad enough gate.
Living world stories also were doable without any gate stopping you, you simply got past each story chapter and opened the rest.
What living world did do, was upon story completion had plenty of grind to get ascended gear and lumi armour etc. But this was after completing story.
HoT however is completely different and has completely ruined doing the story for me. Why can it not be like every other past story?
Personally I think it maybe because you might need to have all gliding mastery done as you may need it for one part of the story. I could be wrong as I came out of HoT at 68% of glider mastery.
Overall, having to unlock stuff through hours of grinding to just be able to play the game I paid for is ridiculous at best. Even more so without there being a starter area in HoT to help assist you and explain what you need to do. Maybe this expansion was rushed?
As for myself I will not be going back to HoT. The knock on effect is that specialisms will make pvp and wvw unplayable for me as I won’t have the same skills etc but I will not let that force me to do this horrid expansion.
Bad show anet, bad show.
ohh please that was only true to a degree, at level 2 there was no way to do a level 80 story mission, yes you could tackle that at level 77 if you wanted but it still took quite a bit of time to get to level 77.
Also please be objective… this statement “Overall, having to unlock stuff through hours of grinding to just be able to play the game I paid for is ridiculous at best.” is wrong on so many level…..
1. you’re playing the game you paid for while unlocking stuff.
2. stuff is locked behind game play not grind (there is nothing specific you have to repeat to unlock any mastery as far as i know)
3. “locking” is not ridiculous, every mmo does it, its actually essential! imagine if you could finish off everything today what exactly will you be doing for the next 3 years while they work on the next expansion?
4. you make it sound like Anet are doing this for the first time in HoT when this same thing existed in the core game. You finished the whole game in the core game before you fully unlocked your character (got all skills/traits/equipment) . You had to play open world content to gain access to the next part of the story.
1) Not necessarily. He may be working toward the unlock without any play involved.
2) See the response to number 1.
3) I disagree.
4) This is incorrect. I, for example, fully unlocked my character within a few weeks (perhaps a couple months) of launch but have yet to finish the game. Still plenty to do.
Do you honestly think that WoW introduced the idea of major or favored characters dying in a story?4
Okay, now that is funny.
Ppl don’t get the point… you need 60 hero points to unlock elite spec.. and than you can equipt it… and slowly become stronger in it… you cand demand everything at once. Anet has spoiled us it seems and now we want everythgin instantly handed to us.
Yes you can earn 60hp and spend them to unlock an elite spec. Then you can equip the spec, becoming weaker than you were before. After that you can work your way back to where you were before in terms of power level.
Its not horizontal progression. It is regression.
In other games’ expansions leveling up or acquiring higher tier gear means immediately improving your character. Equiping a new elite spec tree does the opposite. With elite specs players are nerfed and then expected to work to get back to where they were before equiping the spec.
Did you notice that they said your GW2 code, not your HoT code?
You could be signing away your entire account.
Give it a month for Anet to sort things out.
Three days since what?
