What about the bug that keeps damaging the thief when using a channeled ability? Or when you use one skill to go stealth and gets revealed immediatly right after, without doing anything? Those don’t deserve a fix aswell?
Endure Pain.
So, you are willing to spend all of your three utility skills just to try to kill someone?
Stun break + dodge and GG, the warrior just spent his Frenzy for nothing.
And imo, quickness is fine. The only “problem” with quickness is the mesmer elite, but that’s not a quickness problem itself, but the duration on the elite.
P/P build fix (from another topic)
Vital Shot - This one is okay for me
Body Shot - Change it to a close range AoE that applies Vunerability, including in it a blast finisher. That way, it has a sinergy with Black Power, brings an aoe stealth to your team. Plus, Sneak Attack followed by Unload would be the combo from this build.
Unload - Increase the damage slightly.
Headshot - This skill is fine. If anything, increase the daze duration to 0.5 seconds.
Black Powder - Same as Headshot. If anything, increase the duration by 1 second or decrease 1 intiative.
D/D Backstab build:
- Nerf Mug.
- Increase Backstab casting time to 0.5 seconds.
- Increase Dancing Dagger by 20%
S/D build:
Fix the Mesmer rune and Paralization sigil to work with Tactical Strike.
Change traps mechanics (Tulusin solution would be great) as:
- Create a trait that allows you to use the same trap twice
- Increase Ambush thief’s HP
- Increase Needle Trap poison duration to 10 seconds.
Venoms:
- Lower their cooldowns, 45 seconds is way too long (and don’t put the same duration to all the venoms).
- Increase Spider Venom damage to 800+, keep the duration.
- Increase the vunerability to 3 stacks per attack on Skale Venom.
- Ice Drake Venom, increase chill duration by 1 or 2 seconds.
General thief’s solution:
- Make Dagger Storm usable underwater
- Increase Withdraw healing slightly (600 more maybe?)
- Remove/replace/change useless traits as Combo Critical Change (5% more crit chance for a master trait?) for an actually useful one (as the one mentioned in the trap’s change for example).
General PVP solution:
-Add 1 extra utility slot for all classes, change elite to hotkey ‘-’.

Shadow’s rejuvenation heals for more, as it isn’t actually a regeneration boon, and ticks every second while in stealth. try it with shadow refuge, it’s fun. it is affected by healing power, but not enough to stack it for just that reason.
Oh it is, belive me! Combine that with Assassin’s Reward + some Shaman’s or Cleric’s amulet (P/D build) and go troll the enemy team in pvp

I guess you guys have never played Dota/Hon? Roshan/Kongor token steal is pretty common there, same concept.
Thieves in no way are bad / have problems in PVE. Tell me another class that can kite and kill 10+ mobs together as easily as the thief?
And you don’t even need to build around it. Caltrops + Shortbow do all the work. The only problem are ranged mobs. For that I recommend using Dagger Storm and if they are not all dead after that, just run and keep a safe distance while kitting then.
Same problem as everyone else. Tried the first time and got Dced, missing the reward :/
I think it’s in the right place. Imagine if a casual had to win 100 tournament matches to complete it? He wouldn’t even bother trying.
You complain that one type of skill (channeled) can track you while you are in stealth. But every other type of skill loses track of you. Not many of them have a huge range ether. Also most do not hit hard at all unless you are geared for damage only.
Yes its annoying but its not game breaking in anyway as you make it out to be. Heck if you want a reason for this, just blame it on magic for working this way.
Actually it is a mortal problem, especially against GS mesmers and their illusions (plus iDuelist). So yes, it’s kind of game breaking in this specific situation.
Blinding Power buff <3
The Shadow Trap buff was a start, but the rest of the traps still lackluster as venoms.
@edit
Btw,these “compensations” won’t pay off the massive nerfs.
To the non believers:
Here I am with 3480 HP:
http://i47.tinypic.com/21948is.jpg
After using C&D and nothing else (5 seconds).
http://i49.tinypic.com/2z9e2jb.jpg
9133HP.
So basically I was wrong. It’s even more than 2k!
Build if you want to test ingame:
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fYEQNAsaVlUmaPHfS6E+5EC3DmypaKPFO4Y1pgr0KA;TgAgzCtouxcj4G7Nubk3A
(you can heal 2k+ whenever you go invi)
This… this right here is the problem with these forums. OVER exaggeration; Either that or a complete failure to pass elementary school arithmetic.
345/tick * 4 ticks = 1,380
Last I checked 1,380 != “2k+”
You and your kind are the reason these forums have lost their ****ing mind. You don’t cite accuracy you cite sensationalism which in turn feeds all the sheep and then we get a stampede of stupidity rampaging through. People pulling Screenshots from months ago being used as evidence of how thieves can backstab for 24k+. Others citing equally stupid damage but, “Oh sorry I don’t have screenshots.”
This stuff right here needs to be called out EVERY time we see it or it will NEVER end.
Good job being completely clueless (see Eduardo’s post). I know mathematics is waaaay complicated to your narrow mind.
Not really. If the thief have traited for full defensive Shadow Arts, condition builds won’t help much.
In all cases, the only way that thief would have that many stealth is by using C&D again and again, which requires him to be in melee range. So, dodging it and kitting him the rest of the time should be enough to “counter” it.
You can use the D/P combo ( Heartseeker + Blinding Power) which is much, much better. Not only it eliminates the necessity of staying close to your target, but also you get the amazing blinding condition that completly destroy any melee dependent build, and it’s very useful to stomp. Plus, your Heartseeker hits before going stealth, that way you don’t get the revealed debuff.
(edited by Asomal.6453)
Oh, the thief is traited 30 points into shadow arts.
He’s probably got a lot of toughness/healing power, but very little vitality. These builds tend to go this way.
Don’t just use your shortbow. By the fact that you have damaging traps, I’m assuming you have decent condition damage, so I recommend you grab an axe and torch. You’ll find yourself easily out-damaging his self-healing with the flames alone. Save your thrown torch for after he uses hide-in shadows. You’ll know the skill by how the thief raises his arm in the air, and has a blue glow on his hand.
Also remember to spam the tab button to target him when he comes out of stealth, as you can’t immediately see him due to the rendering bug.
Not really. If the thief have traited for full defensive Shadow Arts, condition builds won’t help much. As a matter of fact, the thief could stand alone just with the healing, without using any condition remover or trait and he’d survive long enough (you can heal 2k+ whenever you go invi). If you want to take this build down, you’ll need burst damage (100b warrior, BS thief, mesmers in general). In OP’s case I’d just flee the fight and wait for assistance because in the end you wouldn’t kill him but he would kill you, if you fight long enough…
I’m amazed, someone who actually didn’t come in and complain that “OMG BROKEN CHEAT HAX”. I wish more people were like this, calm and tried to find a solution to the problem. :x
Good luck OP, hopefully you wont have to suffer this issue for long (15th nov patch might fix).
There’s another bug that if you use some stealth skill it wont work. Rather, you’ll get revelead debuff without even attacking or going stealth, wasting an entire ultility skill. But that you won’t see any complaining topic :/
Clearly you have never found an ally getting wailed on, headshot the guy performing a finisher on him, planted a shadow refuge over the downed ally and then revived him and got away with it.
Was an awesome moment, to be sure.
Omg this! Also, using it on someone trying to heal is pretty awesome
And of course my personal favoutire: using it on a warrior preparing Killshot
The skill is fine (and I dare to say it’s even more useful than Tactical Strike). If anything, lower 1 ini cost.
Why does she keep using Signet of Shadow for no reason? ô_õ
And btw, Blinding Powder then swap to SB and use Cluster Bomb is better, since you dont need to keep moving and it’s an AoE stealth (hide your group)
(edited by Asomal.6453)
Perhaps it was a D/P stealth – healing – blinding build, very good for 1×1. Although this build doesn’t hit that hard, it can kill you in a long fight. And your bleedings will do nothing against it, i’m afraid…
Btw, Blinding Power + HS for stealth.
http://en.gw2skills.net/editor/?fYEQNAoaVlUmiP3eS6E+5EC3DmypaKPFO4Y1pgr0KA;ToAgzCtouxcj4G7Nubk3MCZ6A
This is the fully defensive spec. I suspect he was running a crit / healing variation.
@Edit: Like the post above mine, from Rukia.
I agree with OP. I don’t really care if the thief can do a crap ton of damage, what upsets me is that he is invis the whole combo. Check out that video. I get 3 shot with 21k HP, and he is invis the whole time. There is no escapse, I even use my lightning reflexes and it didn’t do anything.
The thief in this video died as soon as he got the ranger down, what’s the problem or “broken” thing there?
And where is problem ? One Thief in the team ? Why no..But 1+ is so pure fail
Look all those free kills
I’m fine with quickness, it really helps take down bunkers quickly, however I’m not fine with time warp, it’s far too strong. And without a shadow of doubt quickness should not effect stomping or ressing, it’s so broken that it does atm and I hope ANet does change this…
Really? Then you’d rather die for good than having a chance of getting up to fight again?
Downed state is a “chance” of getting back to the fight and I don’t really think Anet should change some habilities to balance around it. Face downed state as “game over” and be grateful to your teammates if you actually make it back (heck, we should be grateful to anet it exists in the very first place!).
(edited by Asomal.6453)
The problem is that a none glass cannon thief is a lot harder to play in melee and honestly is a part of the fail balance of classes ingame. When have you seen thiefs with high toughness ingame…. try one and see how you do. The high damage glass cannon builds (not talking about bleed builds) are wide spread because you have a quick success, otherwise the classs struggles with incomming damage even with high toughness build.
I play a Toughness / Healing Power / Power build and I don’t die to glass cannon BS thieves or HB warrior (and that’s with 13k HP). In fact,I kill them if they pick up the fight long enough for me to take their hp slowly. Additionally, I can kill the creatures in Forest solo and even the Lord and his troops. 2×1 aint a problem either.I’d say that’s one the the strongest builds thieves have but for some reason, people just run backstabbie all day. The only problem is that I don’t kill any bunker / builds with some amount of toughness…
The issue pointed in this topic is the long stealthy time (8 seconds) when SR ends and you can roam freely. Some people should be careful when using the word “nerf” as it seems they want SR nerfed as a whole ( heal , area , combo field ) and not only the stealth problem. Solution? Make you go visible if you leave the area but keep the 15 seconds stealth if you stay in.
ok, thats not 10 seconds but ok
but agian, im not getting what the OP is complaining about exactly, about a thief using SR while capturing a point?
You can’t cap a point while in stealth, unfortunately. OP is complaining when one use SR before engaging a fight, grating the individual 8 seconds invisible to cover a large amount of ground and surprise your enemy, which I, don’t think it’s a real game breaking problem.
You do know that Smoke Screen bombing consumes Initiative you probably don’t have. Shadow Refuge is super ez to use and can be used to stomp downed enemies or to res mates or just to safe or res yourself if you use it right before you get downed. It’s just far superior.
Though Smoke Screen is 30 seconds CD against 60 from Shadow Refuge, but SR is superior,i’ll give you that. However, it’s not like god mode to revive yourself or an ally. Is it good? Of course it is! I use SR all the time for those cases but let’s be real here: How many people keep attacking you when you enter stealth to revive an ally? You and your ally didn’t move from place but some people may think ’’wow where did they go?" and does nothing until you reapper!
How is 10 seconds stealth from Shadow Refuge OP when you can achive the same 10 seconds just spamming Cluster Bomb on Smoke Screen?
@Albane
What about other builds that are not based on burst damage (venom, bleeding, blinding builds)?
Incoming P/P builds using Unload and blind debuffs.
Thieves do have the “revealed debuff” but only if they attack you while in stealth. They can still, however, wait till their stealth is gone and use C&D right after they are revealed, going stealth once again…
