I hope you’re just ignorant and not trying to troll. Ranged attacks also activate the procs from an Ele’s chill and shocking auras if the Ele is hit within melee range (with “Ranged” attacks. Wrap your mind around that). When you’re fighting an Ele, where is the Ele at, usually? That’s right: In your face.

It is within the Ele’s best interests to get up into someone’s face and maintain melee distance with their foe in order to maximize damage and effectiveness. So, you’re in the middle of a fight with an Ele and surprise surprise, out comes the Shocking and Chill Auras, and there is nothing that can be done about it before it’s too late.

Dear god, why would you use RANGED ATTACKS AT MELEE RANGE?

I have nothing to say anymore. Please continue on with your ele bashing since it seems that you have NO CHANCE of beating an ele or even just trying to keep distance from an ele is so far-fetched, I feel very sorry for you.

Yea zone, why would you use your ranged attacks at 1200 range, against the most mobile class in game, that can reach you in 1 second? Why don’t you freaking l2p and kite then with your cripple and chill, that they can easily remove! Get good!

The problem with mesmers, imo, is not the damage nor the “all time up” illusions. The real problem is that the class is way too forgiving. Every mesmer player abuses Blurred Frenzy, all day, everyday. Plus, they still have Decoy and Phase Retreat (and don’t let me start on the freaking mini stuns on Chaos Storm). They are the perfect anti-melee class!

The exact same way they could spike a person without being there, the same way thief does it, just like ele when they pop vapor form.

The fact that many classes have a few ways of doing these types of things says its not an exploit.

It may not be designed like that on purpose, and they may even change it but that doesnt make it an exploit.

Are you for real!? While it’s true a thief and elementalist can start channeling and then teleport way back, they are still there and you can stop them just by attacking. Mesmers in the other hand, have a portal, and the entrance may be in the enemy spawn aswell, making it impossible to stop…

From another topic…

Assuming you can farm an average 300 glory per match (you’ll have to struggle), within a 10 min per match. Let’s say you’ll receive 25 powders and orbs after salvaging 45 items. And to finish it, assume that we gain 5 items per copper box, everytime.
Now, starting our calculations:
- First we need to converte our Orbs into Crystals.
- Items needed: 25 orbs, 25 powders, 1 arcane converter, 1 crystal (you have one) and 3 salvage kits
- Total glory spent: 9×200 + 1000 + 300 = 3100 glory
- Time to accomplish: +/-100 mins
- Item obtained: 11 crystals
Now, you’ll have to do it 3 times, since we need 25 crystals to convert into 11 slivers.
- Total glory spent: 9300
- Time to accomplish: 300 mins
Converting crystals into slivers… (you have 33 atm)
- Items needed: 25 powder, 25 crystal, 1 arcane converter, 1 sliver (you have one) and 3 salvage kits
(assume 25 powder – 30 items)
- Total glory spent: 2×100 + 1000 = 2200 glory
- Time to accomplish: +/- 70 mins
- Items obtained: 11 sliver
Now, now, we just need 11 orbs/consumable tokens and 110 powder
(assume 75 items salvaged)
- Total glory spent: 11×200 + 5×100 + 15×200 = 5700 glory
- Time to accomplish: 190 mins
- Items obtained: 11 unidentified dye
Total glory : 17200 points
Total time : 9h and 20 mins
Result: 11 dyes
Now, in PvE, lets say you farm in a not so good spot (1g/h). After 9h and 20 mins, you’ll have 9g 30s. Unidentified dye in the TP – 15s 50c. Total dye bought: 60!!
And that’s for a 1g/h place (imagine those who can farm 4g/h…)

Imo, change the recipe into crystals (like, 3 crystals per dye?).

given Anet’s stated approach of “small incremental changes” for achieving balance, one would think that those increments would fall a little closer together (say monthly patches?) rather than the quarterly or semi-annual as we seem to be nearing.

Facts is facts though. PvP don’t make no money, so PvP don’t gets no love.

Want better patches? Spend mo’ in da sto’!!!

Well, people would actually spend more in the sto’ if there was anything to buy from there, pvp related (aside from tickets). I mean, for a game based on cosmetic grind, we haven’t see one single pvp skin in the store, in the past five months…

It never takes more than 2 stomp attempts to kill a thief (just like every profession). If somehow, he manages to get on the 3rd attempt, then it would be the same was a warrior rallying or an engineer blowing you away…

No weapon swap delay would also favor thiefs , who dont have ability cds but use initiative, they could rotate between there weapons for even more manuverability.

This would be freaking sweet! Thief gameplay would look more dynamic and mobile and wouldn’t be entirely overpower (they still have to manage initiative).

Of course is for the skin! In fact, I think it would be a great factor to attract more people to pvp, even those who are not playing the game. Like wise, if someone upload a pvp video, wearing some sick gears + legendary, one could wonder “wow this game’s combat looks epic!”.
Oh and please, aside from legendaries, also include other skins like Essence of Foefire, the elementalist wind hammer (dun remember it’s pve name), Immobulus, Fire Staff…(include ALL the possible skins avaible, to pvp :P )

Bunker/burst are already strong without those combinations. However, why not simply nerf those 2 (like some people are expecting for Feb’s update) rather than not add said amulets? Spliting them into 6 minor pieces would allow players to run more balanced builds. Would it be too powerful? Maybe, but since everybody would stand in the same ground, we can’t really know for sure.

First there is no perma chill skill or build, there are only bd players who keep attacking an ele with frost aura up:
-Frost aura= 2s chill on hit, 40s CD , 7s duration
-Frozen burst= 3s chill PBaoe, 15s Cd
-Freezing gust= 3 chills, single target, 25s CD
-Frozen ground = 40s CD, 2s chill, 5s field duration

If you are just in for glory farmming, then you should try the glass cannon rifle warrior build (mobile and solo). Although not recommended for tPvP, this thing hits like a truck in sPvP. And since you are traiting for bullet penetration, you don’t need to worry about doing AoE damage (+Fire Sigil, gg tango down).

Now playing it, never,EVER go in the front line or fight 1×1 (unless against other glasscannons)! Your job is to take people down as fast as possible and then move to another position.If possible, capp one undefended point for +glory. And if things get a little warmed up to your side, just switch to S/H and run for your life.

For maps: every map has at least, 1 particularly good spot for sniping (your best being Khylo)

Khylo: just stay upon the clock tower, killing any kitten who dares to come closer.
Foefire: Not really good for sniping. Your best spot there are those two pillars in the graveyard. If getting focused, just jump on the hill beside it and stay out of sight.
Niff: Keep, nuff said.
Capricorn: Dock and beach on the upper grounds.
Temple of Storm: Now this one is pretty decent, you have acess to the high grounds in all three points.

You can come with something more “glassier”, but I like this one.

Hmm yeah, because it’s a good idea to “smash” your ranged cripple attack, allowing your opponent to run away since you wasted it on your “smashing” or use a water healing skill as an elementalist just do a bit more damage, or throw all your wells at once as a necromancer…

Last Refuge is not OP, it’s kittenty. 90% of the time, gets you killed in PVP. Today for example, happened 3 matches in a row. I would survive those encounters wasn’t for this kittening trait getting me revealed whenever I used C&D to recover some HP.

Can we get this freaking horrible trait removed for once? Not so often it kittens you up rather than help,aka "Ops! You wanted to cast C&D to run away? Let me screw you up using Blinding Powder first, so you get revealed debuff : ) ". And what’s even worse, it’s a auto-trigger minor trait that I am obligated to have if I’m investing in the Shadow Art line. For those who don’t know what it is:
“Use Blinding Power when your health reach 25% (90s cd)”.
9 out off 10 scientists agree, Last Refuge sucks.
And while we are at fixing suff, please Anet, fix the “obstructed” bug from ranged attacks (happens alot with Scorpion Wire).

Tbh they should put more weapons/sets in pvp. I mean, where’s all the cool items we can get in the mystic forge, like Essence of Forefire or the legendaries? Or the gem store sets that we can transmutate and use in 3W? I’m not asking to be easy to obtain those, but at least know I have a chance to do so…

Because they already have. They can’t cast 2~4 skills at the same time (weapon skills). It would be like using HS + Death Blossom together, it doesn’t happen.

Agreed! I was looking into it for a necro build based on precision/toughness. Sadly, the only pvp gear that grants those stats is Rabid’s, which contains condition damage that I don’t use. But lets go further. Why not include every possible combination of 3 different stats? Or even 4 like Orr’s gears (of course the stats would be toned down, like Divinity’s). And while we are at it, please! Separate those kitten amulets into 6 minor pieces like in PvE (so we can actually make more balanced builds).

First i’d like to point that culling is working just fine. Everytime I am “revealed” in the video, the game takes 1 second, at maximum, to render my char. Second, stop mocking the OP. He is a decent player. Later, we fought again and he did well.

Now on the topic, I do agree that fighting against a thief stealthing over and over again is frustraiting. However, if Anet intends to fix or change it, they must be very careful. One wrong nerf and everything goes to hell. We thieves, need more options that we are running out (S/P & S/D nerf anyone?). Being a new weapon set (rifle or sword off hand) or a buff to underdog builds (P/P, traps, venoms…), whatever! But we need those compensations. Else, we’ll be forced to use D/D BS build, because everything else is not as efficient…

I’ve made it for sPVP and I got say it’s pretty decent to troll and have fun (interrupt + bleeding)
Btw, use C&D to go invi, but don’t break stealth. Just wait until C&D is over, and use it again and again (you can time it 0.5 seconds before it ends, so you don’t get revealed debuff).
But that’s it. I don’t really run it most of the time. I use this instead:

All things being equal a guardian should win a 1on1 vs a thief.

Having said that.
Where are all the complaint threads about guardians, engys etc.

its clear the thief/mesmer need small adjustement. EVEN IF all they are doing is making ‘noobs’ rage, if they are really bothering that many ppl myb a small tiny adjustment is in order.
For example on theif a tiny nerf to heartseeker range.
( i play a thief as a main).

Every non glass cannon spec wins 1×1 against a BS build, in a even fight.
BS build is not meant to 1×1, but to pick people off when they are wandering unaware.

1 - Keep your left mouse button pressed to turn the camera (while you are still moving with the directionals). That way you can scout your back, without having to stop to look

2 - If you don’t have a gaming mouse, don’t worry! Configure your hotkeys into a confortable position to your fingers. It’s important to leave a crucial skill, like a stun breaker, in a easy access key, like Left Shift for example. I suggest this configuration:

6 – R
7 – T
8 – Left Shift
9(elite) – Middle mouse button, if you have it.

3 - Save at least one dodge/stun breaker for a crucial situation. Just beacuse that mesmer stunned you, doesn’t mean his shatter will hit you in time, before the stun goes off. So, don’t waste it unless you have no other choice!

Look at the date of the topic before posting peepz! After the 15th November patch, you can converter orbs into crystals and crystals into slivers:

" PvP Mystic Forge: You can now convert PvP Mystic Forge components into other components. This requires purchasing an Arcane Converter from any glory vendor. The conversion recipes are as follows:

The raw true? Nothing would change. It could be a 5 seconds cast time and people would still be caught by it. Even if it interrupts any other ability, the CnD->Steal would change to Steal-> CnD, no big deal.

A single fix that would help balance stealth.

How to fix stealth:

Make hits visible (aka numbers showing on screen rather than looking at your battle log). Now you’ll know when you are hitting the thief and if you don’t…Too bad! You’ve got outplayed.

The zerg mentality needs to go or at least be not so rewarding. You can spend the entire match trying to cap points (and the zerg immediatly rush into you) and win with 30 glory points or you can join the zerg but lose, with 200+ glory. Solution? Reward kills for team points but not for yourself. Increase dramatically the winning points.

This is not just for thieves its for every class that can evade while imobolized. It renders imobolize useless.

Then why did you only mentioned Death Blossom and more specifically, Disabling Shot? Why not every single skill that grants evade (i’m not seeing any ranger skill in the OP)?

And one more thing if you don’t mind the question: why now? The mechanic has been like this forever, it’s not something new.

10 AOE stacks for one click…wtf…necro has to spend 5-10 seconds just to get 10 stacks on 1 target, then has to click epidemic.

Errrr, it’s not an instantaneous 10 stacks, you need to stay the whole duration on the aoe to achieve that.

well ideally we’d get caltrops nerf along with a slight buff to other condition application abilities

Caltrops is fine, the Uncatchable trait not having an internal cooldown of 10 seconds is the issue.

Why is that? It last 4 seconds and has an small aoe.

I may might have got what OP is trying to say:

First, the signet issue. Signets have two different states, one passive and one when you activate it. In passive mode, you have the signet effect at constant time, no needing to do anything to proc it. However, once you “activate” your signet (pressing the button) the passive effect no longer works. Example:

- Signet of Renewal
. Passive effect – Cure a condition every ten seconds.
. Active effect – Pulls conditions from nearby allies into your pet

Now, analysing the duel between you and the thief, I’d recommend not activating this signet. Why is that? Simple, activate state takes 60 seconds to recharge, making it useless against a thief applying bleeds (but fantastic when you have 50 conditions on you). In the same amount of time, you could have cleaned the bleed stacks 6x,with the passive effect.

Now the fighting issue. Judging from your post, I’d assume that the thief is running a Caltrops build. What it does? Caltrops is an aoe that causes bleeding and cripple, at the same time. How to avoid it? The animation is pretty visible (caltrops all over the area), so you just need to get out of it.
Then we have Death Blossom, 3 stacks of bleed + invunerability. How to avoid it? Stay away from the thief and keep kitting him. This attack has a very low range and it’s very expensive if missed, so make him regret for his mistake.
However, if he manages to get those bleed stacks on you, don’t remove right away. Bleeding, despite being powerful, won’t kill you in only one combo from the thief. So be patient, at let those stacks on you. Just remove then when you have 8+ stacks or when you are losing hp pretty kitten fast.
