Some vendors selling low level armor to PvP or low level chars that need them isn’t a sign of the game’s moral decay.
Your practically frothing at the mouth about some niche use vendors. Just because you yourself don’t have a use for them doesn’t mean that others don’t use them or that bugs will go unfixed.

The problem with similarity in looks is compounded by so many choosing the same looks on several of the races.
How many female Asura have the first face in the picture as opposed to the second face? Sometimes it seems like every other female Asura that I see has that first face with the rest, faces 8 and 9.
Why should ANet bother to make non cute unique faces when so few use them?

So, grind. What is the definition of it? I googled mmorpg definition of grind and picked the top 3 I found. Each definition said that grind was repeatedly killing the same mobs over and over, either in order to level or to unlock content. This agrees with ANet’s use of the word grind and does not agree with the way OP and others are defining grind. If ANet is using the commonly accepted definition of the word grind, then their use is the correct one. You do not need to grind (repeatedly kill the same mobs) to level or to unlock content.
http://www.techopedia.com/definition/27527/grinding
“Grinding refers to the playing time spent doing repetitive tasks within a game to unlock a particular game item or to build the experience needed to progress smoothly through the game. Grinding most commonly involves killing the same set of opponents over and over in order to gain experience points or gold. Although other game genres require some grinding, role-playing games (RPG) – specifically massively multiplayer online role-playing games – are the most notorious for requiring this type of time investment from players.”
http://www.examiner.com/article/what-is-grinding-grinding-video-games
“Grinding is a term from the video game industry which is used to describe the action of repeatedly killing mobs inside of a video game in order to mass gain experience or currency: most of the time the term gets used in relation to grinding for experience.”
http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grinding_
“Grinding is a term used in video gaming to describe the process of engaging in repetitive tasks during video games. The most common usage is in the context of MMORPGs like Realm of the Mad God, Tibia, or Lineage in which it is often necessary for a character to repeatedly kill AI-controlled monsters, using basically the same strategy over and over again to advance their character level to be able to access newer content. MUDs, generally sharing much of the same gameplay as MMORPGs, often feature grinding as well. Grinding may be required by some games to unlock additional features such as level progression or additional items.”
People who are using the word grind like the OP is, are not using the accepted meaning and not using the meaning that ANet is using.

that_shaman said he has datamined new faces and hairstyles. Hopefully they will be out before the HoT.
I think it would be a good thing if the season 1 returned before the release of the expansion. I know there are many players who would like to connect with the plot and content between main story and season 2. But yes, as was said, season 1 had the concept of the open world, it will need to be somehow redone into individual instances just for the story. It will not have those huge open battles probably, but still nice.)
That might be kind of interesting. A fast forward season 1 to allow all to access it who haven’t seen it and those who want to do it again.
If they shorten it to a couple of weeks per section that might be the right amount of time.
Yah. That’s the area I was searching in. The area on the bar where is has the little star labeled ‘pan to story’.
If I put the pointer in that area and drag, occasionally the hand will briefly flash then disappear. Sometimes the box to move the mini map to at the bottom will also briefly appear and disappear.
Oh well. Like I said. I’m used to it up there now. It’s just kind of curious that others have no problems moving it and I can’t seem to.
I think we all posted at the exact same time, lol.
Lol. Yah. It’s funny. Sometimes someone won’t get an answer for a long time and when I post one, someone else answers at the same time.
Like they say, great minds think alike. ^^
Yes that black bar that appears along with the zoom/rotation buttons but only the center of that bar works.
I spent a couple of minutes with the pointer on the middle right side, moving it in that area and also trying to drag and get a hand to appear. One time the hand briefly appeared and the outline of the mini map on the lower right showed, but it disappeared and I couldn’t get it to reappear. Possibly the “sweet spot” for the hand is bugged and very tiny on my screen.

If you want Guild Wars 1 redux you are going to be dissatisfied. Your best bet is to ignore the name and pretend you’re playing a game by another company. If you don’t like it on its own terms and what it has to offer, then maybe another game would suit you better.
Aren’t they useful in PvP, since their stats don’t matter, for those who don’t have those weapons and want to try them?
I bought those weapons for PvE, way back when I was first starting and didn’t have either gold to spend on the trading post or alternate weapons to try out. They were a useful cheap alternative till I got better stuff.

Don’t they mean, when they say new unlockable weapon for the specializations, like the ranger getting a staff or the Mesmer getting a shield?
I doubt there will be new customizations. It will be just another weapon with its associated skills that is made for that specialization.
If you think it’s low, don’t rely on your memory, because most people remember the bad RNG rolls and forget the good. Keep a record of it and if after 500 ectos it’s still bad, then come and say something and post your results.
You can no longer deposit gold in the bank. There is no option for it. The bank gold and character gold was merged some time back into the wallet.
If you want a place to put separate gold, make a personal guild bank with the 50 storage slots and put gold there. Just be aware that if you are hacked, any items and gold in there are lost forever.
For some obscure reason, sitting in a room writing computer code and attending meetings doesn’t give you extra ability to play better than the people who play the game for hours every day.
It’s one of the mysteries of the universe, always fated to to be unexplained.
I moved mine to the top by accident some time back also and can’t get it back down either. The top where you grab it seems to be buried and no “little hand” ever appears when I try to grab the corner borders, just a size slider. I tried changing the window size to try to unbury the edge, but no dice. I’ve gotten used to it now, but it’s not always possible to easily move the mini map if it’s in the wrong spot.
Middle right edge. Not top.
The part where all the icons for zoom, pan, etc.. are?
I’ve moved the pointer all over that minimap trying to get a hand to pop up. Nothing. I put the pointer over the right edge, but no hand.
Well, it’s not critical. I’m used to it up there now. /shrug

Darn. I missed it. Is there a way to see it still?
so i bought this game comming from a f2p type MMO with the expectation that i would not NEED so spend RL money on it .. as in CS items .. but yet by lvl 70 i only have 5 gold … why on earth would a bought game act as a free to play game ? (and yes i get it * to make money*) but this is no excuse !!
At level 70 and just starting out, you won’t have much gold. That’s probably more than I had with my first level 70. It took me a really long time to get my first gold, so long that my first gold was a WOW moment (oooohh, a gold, so shiny).
It’s after you hit level 80 and the game really opens up for you that you start making gold. Depending on what you like to do, there’s farming, dungeons and trading post flipping as the main ways. Currently the Silverwastes is a good way to make gold, but it’s a level 80 area.
OK it really freaks me out when I see you’ve replied to a topic I’ve never seen before.
I always think I’m going crazy.
It doesn’t help that your answer was similar to the one I was going to type out . T_T
LOL! This is amusing. xD
Lol. I just caught that. I read that original post and thought that guy was quoting himself and being weird.
The original complaint is about bag/bank space being available for gems. The OP believes that gold should be the currency used to unlock slots. Since gold can be used to unlock slots currently, the real complaint is the OP’s desire for a fixed price for slots that starts small and escalates the more you buy. He states that in the OP.
Under the current system, slot costs are static in gems (barring a sale). However, the gold cost trends upwards over time. This is so because, in the long term, more gold is being exchanged for gems than gems for gold.
Complaints are certainly part of a consumer’s toolkit in attempting to change a company’s mind over how it prices its products. However, in an online game, complaints only go so far. The value to the business in keeping an individual customer happy matters less than it does in say, retail. This is especially so because the customers who want this change are part of a demographic that prefers not to spend money. There’s very little upside for ANet in making storage a gold-only commodity. The downside is loss of revenue from the gem sales.
Well said.
Why should ANet do what OP and some others ask when, since these people don’t spend much or any real world money, they aren’t customers of the gem store that’s of primary importance. It’s one thing to reward loyal customers. It’s another to cater to someone who doesn’t spend money at your place yet wants you to give them stuff free (as in no real world money spent for it) and have yet to make a counter offer to offset losses and interest ANet in doing what they want.
(edited by Astral Projections.7320)
Don’t just /report, /block too. I’ve only seen 2 bots since the sale, one pm, one map chat. Blocked both, and haven’t seen more, since. Granted, the block list gets long with nonsensical display names, but I digress. In fact, I’ve taken to blocking first, then reporting. They are much farther and fewer between these days, but they never really left.
This. My blocklist is full of gxjfitbc and other random names.
I delete after about 2 days. By that time they have been banned and not coming back, so it keeps my block list from getting too large if I clean it out.
^ Which is a form of pay-to-win. Having to go sell loot less often gives an advantage, and newer players have to pay physical cash to do it.
For a very narrow minded definition of winning, perhaps.
In practise: Bank space is a convenience feature that wont “win” anything for anybody.
Bank space is not required for anything but your own convenience, and its the de facto standard for good sub free MMOs to sell convenience to make money, as opposed to bad f2p MMOs that will sell power or outright sell content to make money.
You just can’t win an argument with these “pay to win” people who twist and stretch the definition out of its true meaning to cover their every complaint. They are immune to logic.
I had a long discussion with a guy who insisted that Guild Wars 2 was pay to win because you can buy cosmetic armor and weapons from the gem store and that those who did so were winning.

I am continuing a pattern of being going against the masses.
I have a very fat norn thief
I wanted a flamethrower wielding Sylvari
My Ele I wanted to be Charr like the Flame LegionBeing Sylvari for HoT is just another step on the contrarian path I’ve taken.
Now let me see if I have 60 Tomes of Knowledge to go with the Experience Scroll for my new HoT Sylvari Revenant. Level 80 in 61 double clicks.
There was a red post where he said he might make a Sylvari because the glow was really cool on a Revenant. It would be ironic if this caused a flood of Sylvari and Charr Revenants and if it made a Human Revenant the contrarian choice.
(I changed my choice of Asura to Sylvari based on that post)
Probably Sylvari for me because the glow looks really cool on the Revenant.

I’ve managed to play all this time without extra bag slots on my chars and never noticed a problem. Salvaging and sending the mats to the bank is a wonderful thing.
Maybe I don’t make as much gold as some, only 10 to 20 max gold per play period but it’s plenty to buy gems on a regular basis. Every day I put half of my gold earned in my personal guild bank and when it gets to 100 gold, I buy gems.

Rather than WvW, click the PvP icon on the top-left of your screen. A quick run puts you through the portal to LA. No worries about queues, then.
And explore each of the towns as well, gives XP and rewards.
New accounts with low levels chars can’t go to WvW or PvP using the icons until levels 18 and 22, unless they unlock it by going through the portals in LA. Even though wiki says you can use a hotkey, if you try to use a hotkey before unlocking it nothing will happen (personal experience from my new alt account). So, I found that my new account had to first go through the LA WvW and PvP portals before the icons and hotkeys would work.

“Notifications and icons for WvW and PvP will be displayed at levels 18 and 22. Players can access them before this time if they already know what to do (portals or hotkey).”

One theory. They might have an extended friend’s list based off the Leaderboards so they can get Display names of people who play often. Then if they have game messages enabled, that will tell them when someone on the their friend’s list logs on so they can go down the list of people and message them.
The best farm spot for jute scraps is the trading post.
First you make your gold some proven way, dungeons, farming and selling other mats, etc. then you buy the jute scraps outright.
And still there’s no dev response on this. Figures.
Well, Gaile Gray said (page 7)
“One of our statisticians just checked the drop rate, and there is no error in the drop rate — it truly is dropping as designed.”
So they deliberately and with planning aforethought made this a 1:200,000 drop.
Imo, what was more important to them than having a lot of happy, satisfied people with a new minipet was keeping the value of the container stable by providing a reason for people to buy literally hundreds of thousands.
Economics trumps happiness in Guild Wars 2.

The portal to Lion’s Arch (LA) in Divinities Reach is in the garden in the center. It will take you to the portal Hub in LA. From there you can choose a portal to any other of the other racial cities then run to another portal to a starter zone. Some cities also have portals to non starter zone areas so check the level (by looking at a mob level or the map) after you go through.
Will this continue?
No one knows.
Will season 1 rewards be removed?
No one knows
Will I ever get to make an ascended zealot’s armor set should I choose to?
I guess. You can buy the recipes from the trading post, if that’s what you are asking.

You realize that at launch most people only had a few copper or at most a silver or two? 20 silver for me was way out of my reach back then. I don’t remember how long it was before I got my very first gold, but it was quite some time. It took about as long to get my second gold.
The two situations are not comparable because the amount people were making at start was way below the amount now.

Why? What is so necessary about the Zhaitan story that makes it required, no matter how badly it might bend the lore, and not as an optional “memory” story?
Zhaitan is not so much the issue. It’s how Guild Wars 2 operates that is at the heart of the matter. Unlike Guild Wars 1, Guild Wars 2 is an actual MMORPG with a shared world. The shared world is not a memory. It’s persistent.
Furthermore, if Heart of Thorns was a stand alone campaign separate from the pre-HoT Guild Wars Sitz im Leben, it would have to be new leveling zone and story content for everyone and not just the revenant. That’s why it appears that some are trying to turn the revenant into a profession with special snowflake treatment. The complaint is misplaced to be about the revenant when it’s really about how Heart of Thrones does leveling or co-exists with the old Tyria. Fast tracking the revenant to just Heart of Thrones content with prior content being optional gives revenant players special treatment over other players – particularly new players who buy the game – who may pick other professions.
I never said anything about fast tracking the Revenant. My proposal would have the Revenant leveling normally with an option to do the personal story as a side line quest.
What I suggest, to head off lore inconsistencies, instead of a message to start the personal story at level 10, the Revenant (and any new professions and races after this) would get a message from the “memory” NPC which says “I’ve heard about you and I have a story to tell you. Come and speak to me to hear it”. The Revenant/future races/professions then will go and speak to the NPC and the Zhaitan story will unlock, to be done with the understanding that they are doing events that are in the past and are based on the memories of the original commander.
/shrug
It’s what one finds more compelling. I find it better to do a small sidestep and avoid these future lore breaking problems. You find it better to keep the problems so that the story is identical no matter how many years pass and new lands, professions and races are added. We will have to agree to disagree.
No you will simply have to accept that your priorities do not match the priorities of Arenanet. This isn’t really a agree to disagree, since the developers have given a clear cut answer to the whole lore breaking thing, which is “just accept it.”
You seem to have more of an issue than the guys in the lore forum.
We will have to agree to disagree.

The thing is. When do you stop with the Zhaitan story line as a fixed and not optional story line, if not now?
Let me try a thought experiment.
Let’s say this expansion was about fighting the underwater dragon, “Bubbles”. In this expansion we get the Revenant and a new race, the Largos, who have underwater civilization. Would the new Largos chars leave their underwater home to go to Tyria and fight Zhaitan or would their story begin with season 3?
What about future expansions? Let’s say in another 2 years we have an expansion with a trip to Cantha. Does any new races or professions again do the Zhaitan story line? Even new ones starting in Tyria? Or do they start with Season X and optional ability to do Zhaitan?
What I’m saying is that even now there are problems with the new profession having the Zhaitan personal story and as the Living Story progresses it becomes harder to fit in. If they omit it now and make it an optional “memory” story line then they sidestep problems with the current expansion and any other expansions.
With an “memory” side story, chars can still do it and learn the lore of the game without causing lore bending problems.
the largos would probably have an early campaign step, not unlike all other races. after that, it would probably go to the zhaitan story, yes.

Then don’t quote me and say that I’m doing the opposite of what I actually said. Address your comment as a general post, not as a reply to me.
But you do want to treat the revenant as a special snowflake whose personal story differs from the other professions, correct?
When you have an expansion in other games, do the new professions which start then do the new story line or the old story line?
old. because the “new storyline” is just for the max level character (or previously max level, and now the new story branches between the old level cap and the new one).
blizzard tried giving an exclusive story to a class once, and never did it again. wonder why.
I’ve never played other games besides Guild Wars 1, which is why I has to ask.
From the gw perspective though, when there was new professions they did their story line and had the ability to do other if they bought those, which is what I’m familiar with.
wrong.
from a GW perspective, the early story is based on race (in GW1’s case, ascalonian, canthan, or elonian), and some races had exclusive professions (canthan could, on top of playing the core professions, play ritualist and assassin, for example).
if i made a canthan warrior, he’d have the same story as my canthan assassin. the story wasn’t bound to the profession, but to the birthplace of your character.
That’s what I meant, I guess I didn’t say it well. That new professions has their story line based on the new expansion, not an old one.
Edit: the history so far with ANet and how they set up expansions is that with new expansions the new professions come with a new story line with an option to do the old one. While the comparison is not one to one, it’s possible they will follow the same format where the Revenant has season 3 as it’s storyline (along with all the older professions) but also has the option to do the Zhaitan story.
As an additional question, how does anyone think they would have handed a new race, such as the Tengu, if they were in this expansion? Would the Tengu also have the Zhaitan story line where they go off and kill Zhaitan or would that be better done as an optional “memory” story and the Tengu story begin with season 3?

Ummmm. Did you even read what I posted?
I’m not bemoaning the lack of proper revenenant story. If you had actually read (and understood) what I said, I said the old story is logically impossible therefore it should be left off (except as an optional side quest) and that the Revenant’s story should be the season 3 Living Story (which will be the same story for all professions, not just the Revenant). So, I’m actually saying, no specific story for the Revenant, the opposite of what you said.
Please read the actual posts before making comments. K thx.
Yes, the fast track solution. But,* believe it or not, you are not the entirety of “people” to which I was referring in regards to logistical problems with the revenant*. It still gives the revenant a special status that “skips” the prior story either through an automatic level 80 boost or cajoling the level 1 revenant into the post-80 content.

The old story is no more logically impossible actually it is far less logically impossible than the the introduction of the Nightfall classes to prophecies. There is no point in Arenanet trying to make the revenant story, when a much efficient way would be to simply handwave it like they have in the past.
Those who follow the lore closely since guild wars 1 already know and have simply accepted it. Making season 3 about the revenant just seems so pointless, where progressing the story should be more important.
(As a comment, I didn’t say make season 3 about the Revenant. I said not have a different story then season 3, which is the same for all of the professions.)
I’ve figured you would come back and say that about the lore so I thought about it a bit and why it feels different to me. My conclusion, it’s two things. One is the difference between a static game and an evolving game. Second, my new professions in the other expansions (we’ll call them expansions for ease of word use) were not specifically told in their back story that their existence is owed (for example) to the death of the Undead Lich.
static game vs evolving.
When my Rit went to Prophesies and did the quest line there, yes it is illogical but when she arrived there, since that game is static, when she starts the story line and works through it, it feels the same to her as if she arrived in the past and moved forward from there. In gw2 though, the signs are everywhere that my new char is not in the past but is in the present and is jumping to the past to do the story then coming back to the present. (This is the small illogics that I said earlier that I can stand).
Reason for existence
If we use the Revenant as an example, It’s would be as if my Ritualist knows that her profession is around only because someone else killed the Undead Lich and she then goes to Prophesies to kill him. With a static game you can still (sort of) get around it because she leaves where she is and goes to another land, back to the past. It’s illogical but sort of works. Imo, in an evolving game where the new Revenant does not leave and go to another land and to the past but stays in the same land where Zhaitan is already dead (because his specific profession says so) and then goes to kill him causes a much greater illogical fail.
This is why I think the whole illogical fail can be avoided by the Revenant not having a personal story but an option to access it from an NPC as a memory from the ones that actually did it.
chosen a name for your revenant yet ?

My Mesmer’s name is Astral Projections (because she throws out clones that are astral projections of herself) so I’m calling my Revenant, Astral Possessions (because she will be calling down astral possessions to her).
And your Elementalist, Astral Persuasions?
And your Necromancer, Astral Afflictions?
And your Engineer, Astral Inventions?
And your Ranger, Astral Propulsions?
And your Thief, Astral Lacerations?
And your Guardian, Astral Protections?
And your Warrior, Astral Aggressions?…
And your bank mule, Astral Transactions?Ok, I’m done, sorry.
To answer the thread, yes… sort of. I keep a spreadsheet of planned/potential/probably-will-never-make characters (yes, really) and their info but I’m still deciding who will be a Revenant. The names are basically decided though.
Well, since you asked…..
Elementalist, Sandy Claws (Charr)
Necromancer, Slythy Toves
Engineer, Curl Up And Die
Ranger, Dewey Killem (Do we kill ’em)
Thief, Oops Did I Shoot You
Guardian, Resistance Is Fatal
Warrior, Slayer Of Insects (Norn and she did kill a really big worm to start off)
Mule : Ms Nomer Mesmer

Just pretend that your revenant became a revenant post-Zhaitan/LW S1-2 content but some some other profession before! Not that hard. I suspect it’s not that you want an obvious, easy-fix solution that requires a little active imagination on your part, but that you simply want the revenant to receive special snowflake status.
Uh huh. No doubt that’s it. (Rolls eyes)
Yes, I get it. People have objections to lore chronology, but the expectation being flaunted that ArenaNet give the Revenant something extra in the character story – even post-Red post saying otherwise – seems like vanity and a chasing of wind. It’s not happening, but it’s not the end of the world, time and space in Tyria, or the death of Guild Wars lore.
So while you bemoan the lack of a proper revenant story, I’m busy making my own. A human guardian with dead parents who after discovering their fate and deals with Zhaitan goes diving in the mists for more answers where he becomes a revenant so he can hopefully kick more White Mantle butt in Heart of Thrones.
K thx.
