Just pretend that your revenant became a revenant post-Zhaitan/LW S1-2 content but some some other profession before! Not that hard. I suspect it’s not that you want an obvious, easy-fix solution that requires a little active imagination on your part, but that you simply want the revenant to receive special snowflake status.

Uh huh. No doubt that’s it. (Rolls eyes)

They could do any of the million suggestions, but it seems Arenanet simply choose not to.
Personally, from a cost standpoint I agree. Why waste the effort on something that wont last more than a few hours while costing a lot of resources.

Also the precedence was set in Guild wars 1. New classes completely broke the lore.A dervish could finish prophecies even though prophecies happens before nightfall. It is one of those things that players simply have to accept.

Yeah. I can stand a little bit of illogic but something about a personal story where it’s impossible according to that profession’s specific backstory really bugs me. Knowing that they can avoid the whole mess by having NPC who gives it to them as a “memory quest” makes me hope they did it that way. If they have a “memory” NPC, he can give the story to any later professions or races without causing storyline contradictions.

Naw, they won’t leave you alone. You are a loot bag and a possible spy, even if you are running around transformed by a tonic and can’t fight back.

Assume everyone will kill you. One thing you can do is put a waypoint in chat then turn chat off so it stays there. Then if you see an enemy coming toward you, you can waypoint out from chat without having to open up the map and look.

If you have any guildies or friends on, see if they need the areas also. You are more likely to be attacked if you are solo.

A new service to post on the LFG alongside dungeon selling. Porting available to places on the WvW map for those PvE people who don’t want to run from point to point, encountering those nasty WvW enemy players as they go.

My take on this.

In a regular MMO, time doesn’t flow between expansions. This is the sort of world a static story belongs in. In Guild Wars 2, time does flow. This means the personal story is fundamentally at odds with the living story. It is a static piece set in a game world that is changing. The older the game gets, the more logical inconsistencies between it and the surrounding world pop up.

Now, a new player starting on his story must run past broken probes. Run through a Kessex hills altered by someone who appeared after the story ended. He will see the giant Marionette lying on the ground and speak to a Tybalt selling apples in a city that is now in ruins. He can go to Orr and play alongside people who have already killed the dragon that is/was the master of the undead. A new player can turn a blind eye to all this but the older the game gets, the more the old personal story sticks out, away from the world it should have been a seamless part of.

My belief is that ANet wants to get away from the static personal story. It’s not how they want to have the story told. What better time to step away from it than with the first expansion. Since logically the Revenant can’t kill Zhaitan, then why try to shoehorn him into the story? My guess is the Revenant will start in the old world but his personal story will be the living story. Maybe they will unlock season two for all players on it and he will be directed to do that and then continue with season 3 and off to kill Mordremoth or maybe he will start with season 3 only.

Sooner or later, they are going to have to abandon the old personal story. In the years to come, if they have new races or new professions in expansions 2, 3, or 4, will they still be doing the personal story even though they also don’t fit? It’s less “painful” to do a break with it now.

Another thing to consider. The massive number of tome and writs we are getting now. Why are we getting so many? By the time the expansion starts, every current player should have more than enough enough to fast forward to level 80. New players will also be getting these. It’s possible we are getting so many to bypass the personal story and allow the new profession to get to the new area as fast as possible.

TL:DR
One thing they could do is have an NPC who any new professions (and races) speak to, who remembers the Zhaitan story and who can unlock the personal story as a side story as an optional thing for the player to do. The NPC can explain to the player that they are doing events that happened in the past to other people. This way they won’t be in a story where they don’t fit and new players aren’t blocked from seeing it.

I started a thread about this but after no one responded to what I thought was an interesting subject, I will post this here as well. No personal story for the Revenant.

http://www.polygon.com/features/2015/2/18/8061219/guild-wars-2-profession-reveal-revenant-pc-mmo-arenanet
This has some very revealing things about the Rev. in it as it pertains to story:
“While the revenant is very story-driven compared to other professions in the game, ArenaNet says it will not make class-specific story content for them.‘We want professions to have more story to them about why they exist and why they’ve come about,’ Peters says. ‘But one of the things we learned in the original Guild Wars 2 release is that when we gave people a bunch of story paths to go down, they only played one of them. It’s better for us to give players choices along the way but not have those choices make them go in a different direction and not play a thing we spent a lot of time building.’ "

Imo, it makes sense they won’t have a personal story where they kill Zhaitan. Their story starts after his death. You have to twist things around and say things like, they are doing it as a memory, to make it even sort of fit.

umm… they’ll play the same personal story as everyone else: humble beginnings, join an order, form the pact, kill zhaitan.

What does this mean then?

’ArenaNet says it will not make class-specific story content for them.‘

What other class specific story lines are they talking about? I’m drawing a blank on what class specific stories my other chars had.

it means “hey, people that think the revenant will have its own story… that ain’t happening, drop it”.

it doesn’t mean “revenant players will skip the whole first campaign”, i can’t even begin to understand how you got that from that statement.

I haven’t seen many threads where people were expecting it to have it’s own separate story line. All the threads I’ve seen are asking, how can the Revenant, who started out after the events that led to the death of Zhaitan, do the story line where they kill him?

It’s that sort of question, how can someone do something that happened before they start their adventures, that makes it possible that that quote means the Revenant won’t do the Zhaitan story line.

Right now the sequence of events is
Zhaitan is killed
Scarlet happens
Rtylock goes to the Mists
He comes back as a Revenant
The new Revenant are made or born or trained.
Then they go kill Zhaitan?

On one hand, it is possible that ANet will ignore all that and they will have a story line where they kill a dragon that was killed before they came into being. On the other hand, it is an expansion and expansions do tend to come with their own story line and the new characters made have those, not the old story line, as their primary story. In this case, the Living Story about killing the new dragon, Mordremoth, could be the story line that the Revenant has.

Yep, I would. Did it twice in fact. First time was when the wardrobe came out. I spent all I had (about 1900 gold) to get as many skins as I could. The second time was when I got up to 700 gold after that. I spent it all buying a permanent bank access (and it’s been worth every copper). Now I’m back up there again, about 1700 gold in bank and about 800 gold worth of gems bought.

Shame about monthlies, monthly JP always gave me a little push to try a new one.

This thread is talking about the “new” dailies which started 2 months ago, not the festival dailies. These dailies give no laurels at all. It’s the daily login, which is separate, that give you laurels.

A different zone for event dailies for everyone which spreads out the zerg, is one possibility that might work,

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Astral Projections.7320

Astral Projections.7320

Do both. EotM is fast and there’s benefits like fast leveling, fast karma. But doing maps has rewards too. You’ll eventually need WPs, traits, etc. And you’ll learn how to play the character. Unless you already have another of the same class, people that insta level or just followed a train are generally terrible for awhile cause they didn’t really play while leveling. Dont be that guy in your next dungeon group.

With new NPE, your character is basically useless and incomplete before you hit lv80.
There’s minimal customization (lock up trait and such) and minimal trait you can pick.
Basically with the new NPE, you understand very little about your class before you hit lv80. So I rather make it instant lv80 and start exploring the world with lv80 character and try out some trait combination.

^

That’s what I’m going to do with my Revenant, she’ll be a Tome and skill scroll baby, instant leveled and instant all skills.

After 9 chars to level 80, I feel I can handle having all skills and elites available to me at start to try each one and see how they work and which works best together. I’m not feeling the need to autoattack to level or the need to wait till levels 13, 17, 19 for utility slots to open up or level 31 to get my first elite.

Now of course, anyone who wants to level the old, slow way can do so but for me, I don’t feel the need.

Astral Projections.7320

Or I don’t know just have a disclaimer at the beginning of the story that you are experiencing events that occurred in the past much like we had in GW1. Just because we got Nightfall and you were a dervish, they didn’t change how the story progressed in the other campaigns and you could go back and do these things on your new class that was created much later in the timeline.

I would be fine with that honestly, or even a starting instance where Rytlock awakens you in the mist and sends you to the past to help with the fight against Zaitan. Something is better than nothing.

I read one post by someone who suggested that the story line be done as memories of a previous life and done as the profession the char was in that previous life. It meant that during each story instance your Revenant gets replace with a standard model for that profession and you have to use that profession’s skills instead of your own.

Whatever the drop rate now, there have been loads of better gold farming methods introduced into the game after this thread was created. 2-3 gold per half an hour is just not “good” anymore.

Keep in mind back then the same materials costed only 1/3 of it’s current price

That’s why I upped the OP’s result by 50-100%. Still not worth it.

No, not now. However this was within the first year and back then they didn’t have the good farming spots like now. iirc, dungeons didn’t give as much gold as they now do and there weren’t champ farms, because no champ bags, and certainly no Silverwastes. So it was a good farm for that period of time, which is why so many farmed there.

After having read 6 pages of discussion (not easy at some times, I can tell you) I still do not know what the thread is really about. Is it that the gold price is too high for additional bank tabs/bags?

The thread is about people who don’t want to earn enough gold to buy the gems nor do they want to buy gems with real money. Therefore they want the items out of the gem store and the price artificially capped at a few gold so they can get it without paying money or exerting themselves in game to earn the gold.

Anet will never give that out. But it is common sense. It is a finite item, new players were scared off by a horrible NPE, and most of the whales would have capped it already. These weekly sales would be the vast majority of their income.

Actually they did nerf it, about 5 months after this thread was made.

I used to farm this area regularly for the T5 and T6 bloods. Then they put in the consortium living story with the LA karka event A lot more people started farming that area while that story line was in place. Shortly after that it was nerfed. The reason they gave was that there was too many skelk. This effectively killed that farm.

No no no… I was there in the water with my Ranger farming when the patch hit. When I logged back in there was skelks everywhere! I killed a few and realized this is badly bugged and left the area. This bug fix was to reduce the number back to normal levels. Since you posted the date of the patch, it was easy for me to find the screen shot I posted then about it.

Maybe there was that glitch. I never saw those. However the patch also reduced the numbers on the land near the waypoint. That’s the ones I’m talking about. There aren’t as many on the beach area over there now. I tried farming there on my usual route afterwards and the numbers on the land were significantly reduced.

Revenant's starting zone?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Astral Projections.7320

Astral Projections.7320

Professions do not have their own starting zones. A character’s starting zone is determined by the race that was selected.

Thank you for finally bringing some clarity on this subject. I am however very disappointed in this decision as it completely wrecks lore continuity, I had hoped the devs had an interesting way to introduce a new class without breaking story. It makes no sense for a Revenant to do the same story steps that all other classes did as that class didn’t exist till Rytlock came back from the mist.

Really dropped the ball on this Anet, really wish you took a page out of the Blizzard playbook here because even though GW2 claims to be a Living World WoW handles their lore and story progression better.

He didn’t say they would have the personal story. He just said they would start in their race’s normal starting area

But it’s a safe assumption none the less.

Maybe. The thing is, this expansion is a story line started after Zhaitan is killed and Rytlock goes to the Mists and returns. There are some logical inconsistencies with having Revenants do the personal story before there are Revenants. They can side step this by not having the Zhaitan story on these chars. They will start in their race’s starter maps, but the Revenant’s story line may begin with the start of Season 3.

Chinese version only – reaching level 13 of the VIP system.

If it’s tied to the VIP system, I’d guess that the reason is that Anet is trying to avoid a backlash from Chinese players, if they saw that NA/EU players could just buy it directly from the gemstore.

That’s pretty much my thoughts too. If they can only get it with their VIP system then it’s a special reward for reaching that level. They are not going to think it fair if it’s put in our system as an easily obtainable item. Even if it made as a 1:200,000 drop they can still object as NA/EU can get it without paying real money.

(In other words, when that farm attracted their attention, it was nerfed. Just like the people in the thread feared).

Revenants will probably start at level seventy;

“Just like on the current professions, you will start at level 1 when you create a new Revenant character. We want it to be easily accessible for anyone with Heart of Thorns which means not putting it behind unnecessary content gates.”

For all we know, the personal story is not part of the expansion since the expansion does start after Zhaitan is killed and Rytlock comes back from the mists.

For Shiverpeaks, you can try the Frostgorge map. The Earthquake waypoint almost always has nodes in that area.

The others, I usually just waypoint to a map and start searching. It’s too random to say one spot.

Walks into a brick and mortar store
Tells the management there, he wants them to reduce prices for items because it’s inconvenient to be without these items and he doesn’t want to spend money on them.
Management agrees and reduces prices.

Yeah, I can definitely see that happening.

actually this happens all the time, its why you will often find different deals, locally even in fast food chains like mcdonalds, and if you haggle with owner in a store, you can often get better deals.
People think things are just the way they are, but people who try, often find out its open to negotiation.

but you got to give em a worthy incentive.

i know a dude who knocked like 4 thousand dollars off the cost of a pool table, and 20% and tax free of various retail goods. Its not my way, but yeah it happens.

Then what is the worthy incentive to ANet to remove the gem price for these items? What does ANet gain that makes it worthwhile to lose that income? I haven’t yet seen an answer to that.

Just saying, I want, is not an incentive.

well thats up to the people saying to switch it to gold, im just pointing out that things are a lot more negotiable than people tend to think.

And in my example, the person is doing what the people in this thread is doing, saying “I want” without a negotiating offer that would interest the company. So your example doesn’t have anything to do with mine except that it reinforces our argument to them that they need to make an offer to ANet to offset ANet’s losses.

[Suggestion] Unaccountbinding items

I wish we could tie two accounts we own so we could trade account bound items between them. My alt account doesn’t need that black lion salvage kit it got as a daily reward nor the Dark matter it already has from salvaging the account bound exotic from a daily reward. It can however use my main account’s kill streak and exp boosters. If I ever get to max luck, I could give the essences of luck to my alt account.
