Revenant Starting Area [Possible Spoilers]

as stated before, my one reason revenant will NOT get a specialized storyline:
look at the personal story post-claw island
contradictions, back and forth runarounds, npc’s ‘just meeting you again’ among other issues. no, revenants will not be treated specially. the PS right now is a shining example of how contradictions WILL exist.
for all of you looking for reasons for your revenant to exist before zhaitan, i use this reason: Your character has a number of ‘unknown abilities’ that allow them to talk with ‘mistwalkers’, legends who have passed long ago, and they in turn have taught you how to focus yourself well enough to fight – one of the most prominent mentors being Glint. Some have even allowed you access to their own powers and abilities – for a time. What you are, you don’t exactly know as everyone has never heard of powers like yours. the closest clue you have is the ‘ritualist’ title, as your powers function on a similar basis. And so your journey isn’t simply to stop the dragons, but also to discover yourself.
later on, long after your defeat of zhaitan, a familiar face returns from the mists to give you the answer you’ve been looking for.
I rather like Ardid’s suggestion. It allows people to level as a Revenant while doing the personal story as a set of memories on an older profession.
Another possible solution that I think hasn’t been mentioned is the personal story becoming a set of memories, like what we do with the seeds and Caithe.
This would allow Rytlock to be the very first Revenant to ever be and leave the mists, will not need timey wimey stuff to make sense, would allow the Revenants as a whole to have a significant role in the ACTUAL events happening in Maguuma now, and will maintain the relevance of your character as the one big protagonic commander of the Pact.
However, this would mean an impact in the payability of the journal so far, because you’ll have to play the old chapters as your FORMER profession, with limited personalization.
It would work like this:
1- On character creation, you choose wich was your profession BEFORE becoming Revenant.
2- Your first (brief and unique) mission will be following Rytlock instructions to mystically become a level one Revenant.
3- You will level your revenant in the open world normally.
4- Your personal history will require you to visit several places that were significant to you during your prevous journey. (To say goodbye to your old life, maybe?)
4- Once you enter the instances, you will receive skills and gear equivalent to what you have in the open world, but appropiate for your old profession.
5- Your personal story will end with the episode where you meet the New Rytlock and decide to become a Revenant.
6- Story instances after HoT will behave normally, letting you play as a Revenant.I know it sounds unnecesarily complex, but somehow I like it better than breaking time and space rules. It will also be easier for Arena net to implement than a true new personal path.
I have a special place in my heart for the last Wintersday quest where we found a poor little orphan’s stolen ornaments. After I finished poisoning the Grawl and got my reward, I stood in front of him and salvaged his stolen ornaments for ectos. Then, before I left, I stole his one and only Wintersday present from under his Wintersday tree.
“Merry Wintersday to all and to all a good night” I said, before I waypointed out.

Why not open a new thread and ask for levels to be removed completely? Because kitten grind…
Given the number of us planning to pop a level 20 scroll and 60 level up tomes in the first 90 seconds after our first Revenant gets out of the tutorial, I don’t think we need a thread for that — it’s already the case
.
And then you use another 80 or so level up tomes and the masteries are finished, too. So where’s the problem?
Since they said that there will be no more skill points gained by leveling after reaching level 80 and since exp is tied to skill points, it’s possible that level 80s will no longer gain exp from doing content and that the mastery bar will only be progressed by doing content that gives mastery points (sort of like achievement points).
The tomes may only work below level 80 then since they give exp and a skill point for a level gained.

Pretty much against the rules in every online game, but like, if you’re just doing it for the one friend, you couldn’t really get caught unless you went around broadcasting that you were doing it.
Yah. On one hand it’s against the rules. On the other hand, I know of some family members who play on each other’s accounts. One guy I know leveled up his wife’s chars.
One of their big objections is the potential for one person to do something to someone else’s account that support will not reverse. For that reason they have it against TOS.
Judging by the starting light armor on norn/human females, I find this statement hard to believe.
Skimpy clothing isn’t the same as no clothing.
People in the Victorian age would have considered that starting armor to be the same as underwear. It’s all in what you grew up with and are used to seeing.
As to the topic of pants, after searching the wardrobe I found one solitary pair of pants for my Charr ele that didn’t have extra material hanging off it somewhere. It’s drab with no ornamentation but I’m sick of her running around with cloth hanging in front of her legs when she runs on all fours.

My future Necromancer. If anet finally comes to their senses.
That actually is an interesting tribal look. It reminds me of photos I’ve seen of men dressed for traditional dances. They often wore animal helmets when they were representing spirits or natural forces.
I can’t offer suggestions on the trading post but for a first set of armor, why not look into temple armor or dungeon armor?
Temple armor comes in different stats (one for each temple) and is 42k karma per piece or 252k karma for a set. Just be aware that karma items cannot be salvaged and it you put valuable runes or sigils on them you will not be able to get them out.
Dungeon gear (weapons and armor) also comes in different stats and can be run to both gain gold and tokens towards these exotics If you use the LFG and get in groups that allow anyone, then you can use whatever gear you currently have. Some people make a fair amount of gold running daily dungeons (and it’s very low risk as compared to the trading post)

When someone proposes to a business that they drastically reduce a price for an item, they need to come up with a better reason than, “I want” or “not having is inconvenient to me”. Try giving that reason to any brick and mortar business and see if you don’t get laughed out of the building,
ANet’s need for income is no less than those other businesses. If someone is going to make a proposal for a price reduction, they have to put it in terms that show its advantage to the business. If you say, reducing the price will lead to more sales and increased income, what makes you think they didn’t check the other MMO stores and see the prices and the sale volumes at the different prices and select the best price for the maximum profits already?
Oh no, more wild Revenant speculation!

I considered your idea previously OP, since it does resolve some problems, but my final thoughts were that it’s probably not how they will do it.
ANet has already said that there will never be an ability to switch professions and this would be a switch to another profession. While they have never come right out and said why, from reading their remarks on other topics, such as not being able to refund laurels or karma spent by accident, it seems that they are unable to go in and make changes to the hero panels. I suspect that when a character is made at character select, that the choices are then “hard baked” into the hero panel. I admit I don’t have firm evidence for this theory, but their refusal to offer profession changes and their inability to change the hero panel leads me to think this is correct.
I doubt it is possible to calculate the impact. People might just spend the gems elsewhere, more people might stick around, crazy trading post elitists might quit in protest at ‘free’ space, etc.
If they can somehow show that their business will be severely impacted, they could always drastically reduce the gem cost. They would then sell a lot more.
Why should they need to show that their business will be severely impacted? It’s your side making the suggestion. Your side is the one that needs to consider ways that ANet can recoup any losses. You can do it on a one to one basis. What does ANet need to do to recoup the loss each time any person gets a bank expansion or bag slot without paying the gem cost?
Mastery points are not granted by exp, only training a mastery track is. Mastery points are from adventures and some specific content.
wrong u also gain mastery points for a track by gaining a lvl. this then replaces a skill point you would of earnt from lvling up
players who’ve reached level 80 will no longer gain levels but will instead train Masteries. This means characters that have reached level 80 will no longer gain skill points through leveling. Skill points will be added as rewards across high-level content to offset this change.
source https://www.guildwars2.com/en-gb/news/reimagining-progression-the-mastery-system/ posted main page FEB 5th
the ability to read all info before posting is a very valuable skill not just on the forums but in life to !!!!!
“To see all your Mastery tracks, spend Mastery points, and change which Mastery you are currently training, click the Mastery training bar to bring up the Mastery tray. Because the Mastery training bar completely replaces the experience bar, players who’ve reached level 80 will no longer gain levels but will instead train Masteries.”
Maybe you should read it.
This is also talked about in the recent POI streams.
And the rest of that paragraph -
“Because the Mastery training bar completely replaces the experience bar, players who’ve reached level 80 will no longer gain levels but will instead train Masteries. This means characters that have reached level 80 will no longer gain skill points through leveling. Skill points will be added as rewards across high-level content to offset this change.
To me that implies that as you get exp and level up you’ll level up your current mastery track thingy.
It’s also possible that a level 80 will no longer receive experience (because experience is tied to leveling and getting skill points, which level 80s will no longer do) and that the Mastery bar is only progressed by doing activities that give mastery points.

Sometimes I think ANet shouldn’t have put in the gold to gems option. It seems to make some people feel entitled to free stuff.
Are there even any non subscription based MMOs that give away free bank and inventory slots? If there are MMOs that give away free bank slots, I would bet the people are paying a monthly subscription fee. It’s the subscription fee that allows those MMOs to give away stuff. It’s not reasonable to expect a game without a subscription fee to have the same features. One way or another, they have to have income.
Oh I am sorry. I did not know wanting space to cost a static amount of gold meant free. Next time I will check with you on whether gold is a real currency in the game or not, before I post.
The reason why bank and extra bag is behind gem store.
Gold is so much easier to gain nowadays than launch, but cost for gold convert to gem (that means getting gem store item for free) is increased a lot as well. Therefore, the longer the game life, the more expensive gold to gem cost, on the other hand, it is so much easier to pay cash to buy gem than getting it for free.
If bag and bank space become fixed gold cost, the longer a player stays, the easier they get the item for free. This is the reason why Astral said people are asking for free stuff.
Well he is completely wrong. Also, how much gold can you gain now, compared to 1 year ago? It is probably less.
Might look up what completely wrong means. When I started one gold was a good amount for an hour (personally). Now ten gold is fairly common in an hour.
Ok? That has absolutely no relevance to what I said. But nice one!
Shakes head walks away.
Thank you for your random input. Next time follow the stuff you are quoting. Here:
- Astral believes anything that costs gold is ‘free’.
- Astral is completely wrong.
Your side still hadn’t said where ANet is going to get the money (money from selling gems) that they would lose if they did what the OP suggested. An argument to a business that they should no longer charge a fee (OP’s suggestion that these items no longer cost gems is the fee I’m talking about) for items without taking into consideration how the business recoups these loses is unrealistic.
When people say Rytlock is the “first revenant” are we sure ANet has said this in a storyline way or just a “hey this is our iconic Revenant NPC character. Yay for new class reveal!” kind of way??
First Revenant, ever.
“And Rytlock is returning to the world as the First EVER Revenant"

I think it’s highly unlikely that there will be gap covering skills. They had these during Beta and they were changed to their present state.
Example: Ride the lightning, pre nerf
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eA0wv5bX8X0
Some of the people who post are unrealistic. They want ANet to give up a good part of their income but the proposal to do so doesn’t say how ANet can make up the money lost. Their arguments are solely based on the inconvenience to them when a company won’t give it to them for free. Since it’s always inconvenient to customers when a company doesn’t give away items, their argument is unsound. No business does this simply because the customer doesn’t want to pay.
Now to me, 10 gold sounds like a lot, something that isn’t trivial. I know it’s chump change for those who can buy and sell legendaries, but since most usual items are only valued in silver, I think you all are trivializing the value of money.
That said, I think you can use the TP to your advantage here. Take some junk item (say a level 30 axe, or any vendor trash that’s not soulbound), throw it up on the TP for 10 gold. Now, NeedsFoodBadlyJr goes looking for that exact item, the one worth 10 g, and buys it. Sure, you’ll lose transfer fees for doing it that way, and it could be significant at that price, but at least it could be done.
I don’t think it works that way. If there are other of the same item for a lower price, you can’t select the higher priced item without buying the lower priced ones also. When you click on the higher priced one, all the lower priced ones are also filled in to be bought.
I pulled up an item, clicked on a high priced one and it was going to sell that one to me and all the ones under it with a lower price.
(edited by Astral Projections.7320)
Well good luck. By the way, it’s after midnight where they are. It’s possible one might be reading the forum who also has permission to hand out information on the forum about future release of items, but imo the odds are low.
Possibly not. So far it’s only in the Chinese client and tied to their VIP system.
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Mini_Mystical_Dragon
Acquisition
Chinese version only – reaching level 13 of the VIP system.
Exactly what are you winning?
I keep asking that and nobody seems to know.
I don’t know either but they are possessed by the fantasy that ANet will read this and decide to give up a good portion of their income so that players who can get these items without paying real money can also get them without exerting themselves to earn the gold required to get them.
I don’t know why they don’t demand that each account get for free a full unlock of their bank tabs as well as all the character bag slots. If it is pay to win or pay to equality for the current amount of gold then it’s still pay to win/equality if they have to pay anything at all.

The original Guild Wars does not have a Gem Store under a lottery system. In fact, for a long time it didn’t even have a store.
For a long time?
The in-game store in GW1 was released on July 28, 2006, that is just a few months after Factions and before both Nightfall and Eye in the North.
There was also that little fact that you could outright buy power and could only pay with real money, that people always seems to overlook.
^
You could get the bonus pack that gave you better than starter weapons with unique skins. There was the imp NPC with fire ele powers that you could call up till you hit level 20 that was a huge help in doing low level content. Instead of doing quests and earning skills one by one, you could buy the skill packs that unlocked skills. A pet unlock pack for your ranger. PvP skills and armor was available. There were bonus missions (with unique weapon skins) only available thru the store. Extra storage panes in the store. Mercenaries, NPCs with skills, weapons, and armor you could personally and selectively set up and use on missions. And of course, cosmetics such as outfits not obtainable in game. Anyone who thinks Guild Wars 2 is pay to win should consider the Guild Wars 1 store and compare.

There needs to be a forum page dedicated just to this. XD
Ty. Ty. I felt inspired by OP’s words to sing that little ditty. In fact, reading them again is causing another song to well up.
I just want to…….to sing
Y’all still haven’t explained what to do about someone who does this and then is locked out of crafting a Legendary because he did it without realizing the consequences or because he changed his mind.
Until this is worked out, I don’t see ANet putting it in game.
They said they had to change the code to stabilize it and this disallows joining as a group.
Gaile Gray Source

“I just heard from the team about this, and it is an unfortunate but intended change. The alteration came about because code changes were required in order to stabilize PvP and some Instance Activities. According to one of our lead designers, the change cannot be revisited for this year’s release. Thanks for your understanding concerning this necessary adjustment.”
I have a couple of them. After the expansion has been on for a while, I’m thinking of porting one of my chars way inside the new territory using one.
How come you’re always such a fussy young man
Don’t want no NPE, don’t want no Daily spam
Well, don’t you know that other kids are starving in WoW
So eat it, just eat it
Don’t want to argue, I don’t want to debate
Don’t want to hear about what kind of content you hate
You won’t get no expansion ’till you clean off your plate
So eat it
Don’t you tell me you’re bored
Just eat it, eat it, eat it, eat it
Get yourself an event and beat it
Have some more forced PvP, have some more WvW
It doesn’t matter if it’s something you hate
Just eat it, eat it, just eat it, eat it
Just eat it, eat it, just eat it, eat it, ooh
No, you can access it as soon as you are able to reach it. As soon as you leave the starting instance you can go to your bank and put stuff in or take stuff out. If you have a banking golem, you can access it anytime, including while in the starting instance.
(edited by Astral Projections.7320)
And of course, it can only be used for that weight class. So if you get Profane for example, only your light armor can wear that.
Not sure why you are having this restriction. But there is an easy way around this. Just be a little inventive such as: Post a common item (of your choice) on the player auction, and charge 10g for it. Tell your kid what it is and instruct him to buy it!
I’m not sure you can do that.
The prices listed are for cheapest first. If someone tries to buy a higher priced item, I think the game sells you all the lower priced items also.
It’s a skin I can’t think of reason it would change the sound of a Rifle?
The warhorn has a different sound than a regular warhorn. It sounds like a lion’s roar.
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Crimson_Lion_Warhorn_Skin
“Sound effects are replaced by lion roars when blown.”
As to the rifle, wiki and dulfy makes no mention of a different sound so the answer seems to be no.
Buying this game is pay to win because if I didn’t buy it, I couldn’t get the gold from playing it. ANet needs to do something about that also.
/sarcasm
Well, OP first started posting in June of 2013, and hasn’t since. I’m guessing it hasn’t been since launch.
I certainly don’t experience empty maps, and I play at all the off-hours. Right now, in DR, the Queen’s Pavilion area always has people around.
Don’t know what to say… /shrug
I don’t either. Lol.
I know before Megaservers the maps were pretty empty. Now there is always people running by or joining in to do events. I frequently see chatter on map chat also. I have no idea what he is comparing it to, but it’s not what I’m seeing.
Warning: long post
Full disclosure
[I was reading the WoW forums and came across a post on what the OP felt was wrong with their expansion. The part I felt was relevant was the part about how it affected player motivations and their desire to play. I’ll put it here as a source since it’s what I’m basing my post on. It’s not necessary to read it though I think ANet should, at least the part where he talks about how chores effect motivation to play. Some of my statements are his words, since he said it so well].
The problems that I see with the new dailies, as a PvE person.
1) doesn’t respect how much time someone has to play.
Most people only have a limited time to play and have their own goals on what they want to do. If they are planning to level an alt that day they often have to switch to a higher level char to do all PvE dailies. This, no matter how short a time it is, cuts into the time they wanted to play on that alt. Being required to play differently than what they wanted causes dissatisfaction.
2) doesn’t respect PvE players preferences.
Some people are extremely anti PvP. Others are extremely anti fractal. There’s no point in telling these people, just do it. By now they know what they like. PvE dailies that are so restricted in choice that a person must either chose a PvP or fractal to get the full reward is disrespecting their wishes on how to play. The PvP or WvW groups are not ever required to go into PvE to finish their dailies, yet the PvE people are frequently presented with a such a choice.
3) stamina
There is only a certain amount of energy you have to give to the game. If you are playing content you don’t like or a way you don’t like, then when you finish you don’t have as much desire to play other content. It’s mentally tiring to play in a way that irritates you. When someone is irritated with the game, they either log out after getting their reward, play for a shorter period of time after they get the reward or they start logging on less. It’s not in ANet’s best interests to promote such feelings in their players.
One thing I’ve repeatedly seen is the comment that someone is forced to do dailies. One of the immediate retorts to people saying they feel forced to do dailies is that they are not, in fact, forced to do them. However, the activity is time-based, and failing to take advantage of it when it is offered means losing out on the rewards offered for that day. For many people, having a reward placed in front of them at log in is an irresistible offer. Right or wrong, people hate the sense that a reward dangled right in front of them will
be lost permanently if they fail to act. The more accessible a reward is to your initial log-in point, the more you will feel like the “right” way to play is to engage with it. Not doing the task to get the reward makes you feel like you’re stupidly giving up a gain, and no one likes to feel as if they’re playing the game “wrong.” So you feel compelled to do that content. (I don’t think ANet should remove the rewards, because I think the main problem is people doing content that they don’t enjoy.)
TL:DR
Imo, for PvE dailies: the way to fix them is to take away the specific aspects of them and to increase the options, so that those who emphatically wish to not do PvP/fractals and those who wish to only level alts and those who dislike zerging events never designed to handle such a crowd can PATW (play as they want). The PvP/fractal/WvW rewards will still be there as a gentle nudge to try them.
(edited by Astral Projections.7320)
If you happen to have a hair style or complete makeover kit, it has a “night time” option so you can see the glow. If you change the armor colors it wont show right then. You will need to exit and open it again. You can toggle between day and night on it to check the colors.
You can put in a support ticket to try to get it reversed, since it was a missclick.
^
Yah, don’t open it, and if you did, don’t delete it or salvage it. Contact support and see what they say.
Just be warned, they apparently had a bunch of new people come in with the recent sale and they are swamped. It might be a week before it’s resolved.

I hope the Blindfold is for Revenant only, and i hope it’s mandatoryI cant have a Charr because of how big they’re in the Character Select.
you can make a charr fairly small actually. In “default” hunched stance a max small charr stands arround the height of a human male…just for some trivia lol. As for the blindfold… i doubt its mandatory..though it most likely is going to be the class “trademark” like for example the noble masquerade thing for mesmers, the blue “ankh” for the guard and the skulls and black\green thing necros are always depicted with.
Yah. The blindfold will be in the wardrobe once you get it and since it’s heavy armor that means there will be blindfolded warriors and guardians running around also.
i actually really wonder what 3 starter items the rev is gonna get…but thats for a different theme
Actually I kind of assumed the blindfold would be one of the starting items since it seems to be the class defining piece of armor, like the guardian pauldrons with the symbol and the ele elemental eye.
OP didn’t say when he stopped playing. Maybe it was shortly after launch when the maps were so full because everyone was still leveling their first char. If someone left then and came back now, then the current maps would seem empty.
actually from my perspective they’re fuller than ever. I don’t exactly remember like 20 people doing random (and I do mean completely random, no world boss, no daily) events in low level zones.
I remember the starter maps and the first maps after that being packed right after launch. If OP left then or shortly after, the maps now would seem empty.
Or there other games that give you bank tabs and bag slots for free? Or do they all require real world money either directly or like gems, indirectly? If they do, is there a monthly required subscription?
They don’t need the unlocked rewards panel also. It use to be the place that you pulled a skin to use. Those are all in the wardrobe now. They could remove that to open up space.
The problem with the node maps is that maps open and close so frequently now that it’s hard to keep those sites updated. It’s not like before when maps would stay up until the game had a patch.

I got all excited when I saw Dragon Bash in the title.
Lol. Yah. I figured from his post he was talking about the current content, the Lunar New Year Festival.

No one knows. They didn’t announce it before they put it in. They didn’t say how long it’s going to be around in the patch notes.
(And then they wonder why we say they don’t communicate).
