You’ll have to check and try periodically. The servers do sometimes drop to very high and reportedly are more likely to do so late at night. ANet also has in the past increased the server caps when a number of servers are full but they don’t do this on a schedule.

And imo, farming ambients is so boring it would fall under doing it “the painful way” ^^

That’s what I was referring. To getting torch, warhorn, focus and shield without killing ambients is even worse though.

Those achieves are really hard and imo if anyone got them without ambient killing then they are in a distinct minority. My guess is most people who are trying for those do the occasional bout of ambient kills now and then, if not the majority of the kills

Same thing applies.AP will garner rewards, thus it’s the same.

If you need to try and figure out loopholes it’s most likely not ok.

I’m not trying to figure out loopholes, but honestly, I don’t see how it could be an exploit, bot, or anything like that, in any shape or form. I guess I’ll just do it the painful way then

It is not an exploit or a loophole. There is no rules against farming ambients for the achieve. As long as you are personally doing it, it’s fine with ANet.

But from what I’ve read of the terms, setting AA and Alt+Tabbing, is not “wrong” so to speak. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not deadset that I won’t get banned if I do, because I won’t do it, but I’m just saying, logically speaking it doesn’t make sense that it is, especially since I haven’t seen it explicitly in their Terms.

If you don’t feel comfortable doing it, then don’t. However their rules apply to people who get rewards without actively being on and controlling their character and who circumvent the kick feature for being afk for extended periods. If you recall they used to have a daily for killing ambients. I used to work on weapon kills when they had that daily.

And imo, farming ambients is so boring it would fall under doing it “the painful way” ^^

Hrmm… well what if I wasn’t farming anything, but just wanted to get the torch master achievements by killing ambients…

Are you actively playing? Are you getting rewards while afk? That’s the things they look at. People who engage in unattended extended play are the ones that get in trouble. Farming ambients is playing if you are actively at the controls and moving your character around.

Anything that enables a person to play the game without actually playing the game is a problem, such as using third party programs to automate game play.
Going AFK with turrets running isn’t technically an exploit, but players should be playing the game in good faith.

We do not consider “not answering a whisper” as an indictment. Please do not worry about this; as long as you legitimately are playing, or are not gaining undeserved rewards when not playing, you’re just fine.

If they are going to make new content that requires changing your build to do it efficiently, then they really need to put this in. Race Change

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Astral Projections.7320

Astral Projections.7320

There is not only the problem with the race based personal story tied to the hero panel but what city has your home instance and any changes made to it due to the personal story. They have already said they can’t reverse story line choices that people wrongly chose so this indicates these things are “hard baked” into the hero panel. It’s possible that character race choice is also “hard baked”into the hero panel and irreversible, since it’s tied to the story.

I think my pet rock is dead. I turn it over on its back and it just lies there.

I wonder, if I throw it and the dog brings It back to me, is it then a Revenant rock?

It’s easier to blame the new players. If they blame the old players then they are blaming themselves. If they are not doing that then they can’t be blaming the new people for not knowing what to do.

Astral Projections.7320

I was in one guild once with terrible permissions. As I understand what happened, they had it set up so that every officer could admin the ranks. What that means is they were leaders in fact, if not name. One member emailed an officer and and told him that he was a new officer who had accidentally kicked himself down to member. Instead of checking the story, he promoted him. The guy promptly kicked the leader, the officers and then the members and kept the guild for himself. ANet could do nothing because the guy was promoted by an officer and he did have the permissions to do what he did.

That guild tried to remake itself but fell apart later.

Just a comment on this. Personal guilds are not covered by account restorations. If someone is hacked and their account and personal guild are stripped of everything, an account rollback will restore your account to the state it was before the hack with all your items and gold but any gold and items in the guild bank and vaults are lost forever.

Sorry. While what he did was pretty scummy it also doesn’t cross TOS. When you gave him permission to withdraw items from the guild storage that means he can, up to every copper in the guild bank and every item in storage.

The only way to minimize member “theft” is to limit removal of items to officers only or restrict to the first vault and be prepared to occasionally lose all in it.

Reporting him to support will do nothing but waste support’s time for them to tell you that there is nothing they can do.

Blocked but Still Causing Offence?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Astral Projections.7320

Astral Projections.7320

I haven’t had any problems myself but I agree the block system in this game needs work.

For one thing, someone you have blocked but who has you friended can still see that you are on and what map you are in. You can still see emotes that person is doing and since people can speak to each other with emotes, they can talk to you this way. They can enable game messages and will be informed whenever you log on or off even if you have set yourself as invisible. They can join any party you make and spam invites to you to harass you.

It’s a very poorly thought out system. I’ve read posts where real world stalkers, such as angry exes, use the flaws in the system to know when someone is playing, which means they know either where they are in game and use that to find them or that they are home and in one case that they are probably alone since that person lived by themself.

In the real world there is a lot of gray between friend and stranger.

some guy is spamming join invites to my party over and over, kicking us out of PVP queue. we both have him blocked and are both invisible and he is still spamming invites.

Idk how this is possible, since joining and leaving a party 3 times in quick succession will get you suppressed, and will prevent you from joining any more parties with the LFG tool.

Are you certain it was the same person every time?

he wasn’t joining through the LFG tool. IDK how he was joining because we both had him blocked we were set to invisible status.

…so if he wasn’t joining through the LFG tool….. why would you accept him into your party to begin with?

When it comes to accepting a join request….

THE POWER IS YOURS !

I don’t think you understand. he is requesting to join my party and I click decline. he then continues to ask to join over and over and over again.

Don’t you only get a few party tries before you are blocked from joining a party? If so, let him join then kick him until this happens.

apparently not because he’s been doing it for hours now.

I thought you said you were declining party.

I’m sorry but IDK what you don’t understand about this. Me and a friend are in a two man party in sPVP. We are both set to invisible, and we both have the person blocked. He self invites himself to the party somehow and we click decline. Then he self invites himself. we decline. this continues. over and over. He just keeps inviting himself. also it breaks out PVP queue.

It’s my understanding that if a person fully joins a party more than a few times within a few minutes, the game blocks them from joining another party for a period of time. If this is true, then I suggest allowing him to fully join then kick him. Don’t hit decline. Hit accept then kick.

http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Looking_For_Group
Edit: “If a player joins and leaves groups in rapid succession, the player will be unable to join a new group for a set period of time.”

Allowing him to fully join and then kicking him after each time he fully joins will trigger the “unable to join party” restriction once he hits the limit. It will give you some space before he starts again and you should be able to get into PvP while he is blocked from trying to join a party.

Astral, I’m using a definition that was used extensively on this very forum in two developer-led discussions about progression. It does not seem to fit with what wikipedia says it means, and yet it was good enough to go unchallenged during both progression CDI threads. I’m sorry for the confusion, but it’s how those terms were used then.

Ok. I see. Well, just a comment then. If you are using a non dictionary definition but a definition drawn from 2 threads among the group of people posting on those threads on just this forum, you might want to define it or refer to it with a link when you use it later somewhere else (and not just say “By doling out skills in small chunks, and later in the experience. I thought that would be fairly obvious.”) as not everyone will have read those 2 threads and know what you are referring to.

They do punish for harassment, though I’m not sure what the limits are. If someone is stalking you in game, start keeping a record of it. If he appears, document it, leave and go elsewhere and see if he follows. If he follows, document that. You will need to show a clear pattern of stalking to prove it and not just a claim of stalking or harassing to make your case because in theory it could be coincidence that he is showing up.

In other words, clear proof will make your case and get you what you want, this guy sanctioned if he is stalking and harassing you.

Bank space is worse than F2P games

Astral Projections.7320

Sorry to be super dense here, but what is it exactly that you have to purchase? Just getting back into the game, and have been saving everything while I figure out what I’m doing, and so this would be a great option to have.

You can start a guild from basically anywhere for 1g, then you’d need to visit a Guild Promoter to purchase influence for gold. Then, per the wiki, you need to buy ranks in Architecture. First rank costs 500 influence (1g) and 12 hours, second rank costs 1000 influence (2g) and 36 hours, then you can build the smallest type of guild bank for another 1000 influence and 48 hours. More ranks in architecture will let you upgrade to a 150-slot guild bank and finally a 250-slot guild bank.

You can get cheap 20-slot bags from fractals by exchanging fractal relics, from the Uncanny Canner achievement (for finding jars, most of which come from hearts), and the Bandit Weapons Specialist achievement (for having every bandit weapon skin — they’re the first set of rare weapons you can make, and you can also get them cheaply for karma at your home citadel — and a Bandit Combat Journal, which costs 20s and 150 bandit crests in the Silverwastes).

By the way, if you ever get a personal guild in which you are the sole leader or member, never leave guild. If a guild is left without members it will disappear and the other members must have inviting privileges to get you back. The guild will be leaderless if they can’t promote you.

Standing down from a 1-person guild wouldn’t be a problem, surely?

Wiki says it causes your char to stop repping but not leave. However I’ve been too suspicious to try it. Lol. The only button I ever touch when I’m switching between guilds is the one to start repping

http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Guild

also on the topic of a personal guild bank if it costs 2g per 1k renown then to get the 2500 you need to buy 6g worth plus 1g for the creation of the guild so it should be around 7g to make a guild bank without doing any events to earn the renown

Sorry to be super dense here, but what is it exactly that you have to purchase? Just getting back into the game, and have been saving everything while I figure out what I’m doing, and so this would be a great option to have.

The guild bank

To start a guild costs one gold.
Creation: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Guild
“To create a guild, open the guild panel (G) and click on the “Create Guild” button. You will be asked to enter a guild name (up to 31 characters) and a tag of up to four characters. Guild tags are not unique, but guild names are. Alternatively, speak to a Guild Registrar in any of the major cities. It costs 1 to create a guild. You will be unable to create a guild while representing another, so you must Stand Down before creation."

Then to create a guild vault you must have enough influence, usually gained either by repping the guild while playing or buying influence from a Guild Promoter.
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Influence

After that you have to start the vault by researching Architecture.
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Guild_Vault

By the way, if you ever get a personal guild in which you are the sole leader or member, never leave the guild. If a guild is left without members it will disappear and the other members must have inviting privileges to get you back. The guild will be leaderless if they can’t promote you.

My only question – what is the NPE folks keep mentioning?

you are new, you are better off not knowing about npe

LOL. OK. I guess what I don’t know won’t hurt me. But my overall point is that I have found levelling enjoyable and pleasant, and very non-grindy (the only aspect I tried that I didn’t like was crafting).

If it was even better before something (NPE?) then I am jealous.

I think there are a lot of new folk like me who came in with the $10 special.

It was better before NPE. It was better before the megaserver, for high population servers, anyway. It was better before every critter under 80 has been nerfed because of the trait changes.

Google “new player experience gw2”, because I’m too bitter to get into this topic. One example, beforehand you didn’t dance for the cows in Queensdale. You fed them. However, your brain could not stand the strain of picking up the bundle and giving it to the cow. Therefore now you dance for them. Because kitten logic and everything you love.

Are you really complaining about logic in a fantasy game? I lol’d really hard, thanks for the laugh.

What if it had been reversed? Imo, this….

Old: people danced before the cows
New: people feed the cows

Result: numerous people complaining how dancing added charm and flavor to the starter zone and feeding cows is boring and unimaginative.

Verdict: ANet can’t win.

Yah, it’s wonderful being young, having good reflexes, living in an area with good internet connection or living close enough to the servers to have good ping, having good health and no hand/eye coordination problems and having people who are willing to spend the time each day (hours if need be) helping you through any JP you need to do to get these improved rewards.

Where can I sign up? I want to be among the deserving also.

Then they should never add anything challenging to the game since it won’t be doable by people with horrible internet connections or bad hand/eye coordination.

Jumping Puzzles have terrible rewards for the time needed to do them properly. In the same time it takes to do Obsidian Sanctum or Aetherblade Retreat I can do 10 events in SW, 2-3 dungeon paths (depends on path) or a fractal run while I will get a couple of greens and blues.

It’s no secret that the reason JPs have terrible rewards is because of camping and portals. Even the devs admit it.

So why not add both systems, so every single player is happy.

That’d be fine with with me too. I would prefer that achievements be tied to the harder version though, achievements should mean something.

As for the " being young, having good reflexes, living in an area with good internet connection" etc… no JP requires you to be young.. that’s ridiculous, keep this to the facts please. Most JPs don’t require good reflexes… as in they have no moving parts, these are the easier JPs. You can take your time on them and get it right no problem. Those ones also don’t require good internet connection. I’ll admit the more challenging ones that have moving pieces do require good reflexes and good internet, but that is a SMALL minority.

Uh huh.

It would be nice if you could unlock 1 or 2 extra bank spaces through game play but its really not needed. Bank space is completely functional and gives you enough space for anyone that is not hoarder and there are things you can do even if you are a hoarder. Like create more characters and use them as mules. Email items to the mules and don’t pull the items out of them. Out of all the things being sold in the gem store, bank space and increased material collection size are the 2 things that I have no issues at all being there as they are only QoL items. Do they make life more convenient and make it so you waste less time with inventory management? Yes. That’s what QoL items are supposed to do. Do you need them to do any part of the game? Nope. Does it put something in to the gem store that should be earned in game? Yes and no. In DDO you can unlock a couple of bank tabs through game play and the rest of the bank slots unlock with real money. But DDO has way less space then GW2. GW2 has a normal bank space equal to DDOs entire bank space with unlocked tabs and bought tabs. The amount of space compared to guild wars 1 is about the same as the comparison to DDO. So I really don’t think we are getting screwed on space. I think they gave us a good amount to start with and made it so you can upgrade to an even better amount for a better QoL in game.

I’m am no defender of arenanet, I just think there is way more important things to fight for rather than some QoL change like adding more bank space. Which isn’t in a bad place anyways.

Just a point, you can’t email to yourself. You would have to either email to a friend and have him send it back (and this won’t work for account/soulbound items) or have an alt account to email back and forth.

At this point, since it’s past the time they would have reasonably put it in as an ingame achievement reward, if they do something like this it will probably be an RNG black lion chest node. The ones they sell in the gem store give out random low tier mats, not a one specific item.

Actually both the mining and the logging nodes gives a very exact result.

Ok, not all the gem store ones are random.

But they are still not a one item node. The black lion chest nodes are specific one item nodes and the gem store ones give out more than one type.
