Exotic vs Legendary Weapons

They are supposed to keep up with any increase in stats when expansions come out. This is often put forward like its a major selling point. (Shrug) Considering it costs hundreds of golds to get one, I don’t see any cost savings here but whatever makes them happy.

considering that ascended gear costs gold and ectos ie accessory are 50 ecto each if you cant get guild coms backpacks much more multiply that for having to upgrade to a new tier every year for the next decade or so, not counting the cost of also upgrading them to infused so they are BIS or the benefit of having a better weapon than others can even get for wvw etc for a few weeks or as long as it takes to earn the new currency for the new tier each time and it makes sense to upgrade now

some people also like the idea of bypassing the treadmill to remain competitive if they want to do multiplayer content in an mmo…

When I see someone equip a legendary, , I can safely say that for the most part you know your class, the game and some mechanics since you invested all that time to acquire one.

or they really like sitting in LA playing the TP or they had a thousand odd dollars to burn on some pixels

That assumes that when expansions come out, that there will be a brand new set of gear needed to grind for, or that there will be new gear each year (it wasn’t in Guild Wars 1 so it’s not a sure thing it will in Guild Wars 2) and that the new gear will be as horrendously expensive as ascended gear.

If they don’t have new gear each year/expansion or it isn’t so expensive, then it’s not cost effective. Particularly for the people who spent several hundred gold just on the precursor. I don’t know the average cost for a Legendary, but from reading the forums I wouldn’t be surprised if it ranged between 500 to 1000 gold. New armor would have to be ruinously expensive if that’s considered cost effective.

What determines name order in guild window?

Astral Projections.7320

I’ve done a very quick test (aka watching my guild list for 5 minutes) and I think the order people log in is what determines it, at least for online players.

I’ve tried going invisible and back several times and the only change has been to bump me to the bottom of the online list. I think any other changes may have been a coincidence. (My guild was staying relatively consistent at the time so it was easy to keep track.)

Edit: And then if I closed the guild window and re-opened it I was back up to the top.

Hmmm. I’m in a small guild with only a few people on so that would be fairly easy to check. I’ll have to watch it for a while and see if your theory holds up.

How long do you need to be representing though with each character? I have a bank guild which I rep into periodically to take things in and out. I almost never gain influence by doing this. And I do mean almost never, like once every month or two. The only times I have gained influence is when I represent for several minutes at least, usually because I forget and go out into the explorable area.

The low level areas, especially the 1 to 5 zone usually has events that run almost back to back. I personally prefer the Norn noob area. Raven’s questions, Son’s of Svanir attack on the bear shrine, Rampaging Minotaurs, the 3 event chain starting with the Grawl food sacks, the 3 event chain in the neighboring grawl/elemental cave, the Broodmother, the grawl egg thieves. All happen within a VERY close range of each other with little time between them

Devs don’t post on every thread people ask them to post on. They’d spend all day posting on the forums rather than doing the job they’re getting paid for if that were the case.

Think about it for a second. Would a gold buyer/seller mail back the original gold transfer? Not likely. If your friend mails you the money, and you mail it back right after, I don’t see how you’d be flagged for gold buying/selling.

I got a “perma ban” for gold selling/buying for doing this and had to go thru support. So yes you might get caught.

You contact support and put in a ticket.

I would be cautious about playing. You are going to lose all progress anyway and if you do something they think is trying to scam the system, like give stuff to friends or put it in the guild bank (so you could get the items back and have twice as many) then they may refuse to restore your account.

I was wondering is there a way to change it? This used to be my older brothers account which he handed down to me since he stopped playing the game. Well if anyone can shed some light that would be great! ^.^

Pretty sure ANet frowns on selling/giving away/using other people accounts. I don’t think I would bring it to their attention to much. ^^

Even if it’s a sibling that no longer plays? That is kinda dumb. :s

I am pretty sure members of the same household are permitted to share accounts. There was something in one of the legal documents about it. Or at least I could have sworn it used to be in there.

My impression is that it’s discouraged, if not forbidden. I know people do it but the reason they frown upon more than one person sharing accounts is that people fight, they divorce, and then one side denies the other access to the game and ANet gets dragged in as a referee as to ownership.

Lets say, as an example, OP is playing the game for a year or so, he and his brother have an bad argument about something or other and his brother gets vindictive. He contacts support and says he was hacked and gets the password changed. What can OP do at this point? Not much. He is not the owner and unless his brother gives back the account, it’s gone.

People pull this sort of crap all the time. Anet made the no sharing rule to protect the players.

Have you looked at what is required for WvW titles? I haven’t seen a single player with ANY of those titles. Those requirements are mind-boggling.

PvP titles are just as achievable as PvE titles, and the number of titles is basically the same.

Someone calculated how much time it would take to get one of the WvW titles and it was it was like, !!!, no one in their right mind is ever going to get that title. The amount of time involved makes killing 1000 giants a walk in the park. It was literally years with doing it hours a day. So yeah, I think we can take the WvW titles off the list.

GWAMM here, 50/50. My Ritualist that I did this on was Astral Projections (which is now the name of my Mesmer).

I enjoyed Guild Wars 1 a lot, played it for about 4 years. I am enjoying Guild Wars 2 but they are so different it’s like they are totally separate games with only the lore connecting them. None of the landscape is even remotely familiar. However that difference comes with an increased ease of moving around instead of being funneled into pathways so the trade off is worth it. I admit I am missing some aspects of Guild Wars 1 like the repeatable missions, how you could move skills around, how you could move things on the UI around. However the game is still young and we can expect the Devs to work on it as it gets older.

Seriously, Can we have some form of Henchmen?

How about summoning stones? They stack in your inventory and summon some sort of NPC. Could be a fire elemental or a warrior with a greatsword. They have their own set of skills and live for 30 minutes or until killed. Each person could summon one at a time.

This could be used whenever you are in a difficult spot and could use a “warm body” to draw aggro and help out with a fight. Since they are disposable, it wouldn’t be expected that they would avoid AOE or dodge.

My real point was the fact that there are 36 for pvp/wvw.

If they had time to do that why didn’t they spread that out to the pve side of the game.

It just looks lopsided is all. I know in time there will be more. I just wish it would be a bit soon there later for the pve side is all.

I mean IF you add in HoM, which I feel you should not. Those should always be on their own. That adds up to 24… still 12 less then pvp/wvw

Yes, I was surprised there wasn’t certain titles, like the slayer title track. They are handling titles differently and it decreases the number you can get.

For example, the Slayer title. http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Norn_rank
Each of those sub titles was wearable as you advanced along the track until eventually you reached Slayer of All. They could have done something like that. Slayer of imps, Slayer of Nightmares, Slayer of Heroes, etc… until you reach Slayer of All. This sort of system would have greatly increased the number of titles and is a missed opportunity as many people now have gotten everything except Giants and maybe one or two others.

Who knows why they did it this way. Possibly they ran out of time and certain things were put on the back burner or only half done.

I wish there were PvE titles that were acquired through something remotely resembling competence, rather than just a bunch telling people how much gold you’ve spent, or that you can spend 20 minutes fixing signs in wayfarer. The only one that really fulfills this at all is Dungeon Master.

They had a mixture of “dumb” titles (like Drunkard) and titles that showed you did content in Guild Wars 1. But most of the content titles came with the expansions. Again, the game needs to mature. As content comes out, the titles will come also. We have come in at the start of this mmo and almost by definition, the “cupboards” are a bit bare. It takes time, money and talent to make all the things people are asking for. New armor skins. New town clothes. Different types of town clothes, wearable in combat. New weapon skins. Completely new weapons, with new skills. New skills for old weapons, which means revamping the skill bar completely. New titles. New traits. Old traits fixed. Classes balanced. All these things and more have been asked for. As they say, Rome wasn’t built in a day and Guild Wars 2 won’t have everything people want even in a year. :-)

Hmmmm. I think some people can be a little unrealistic about what a new game has to offer. Many come in from older games with years of content available to them. They compare the new game to a mature game, and yes it’s lacking. But that’s to be expected. No one wants to wait one or two or three years, but realistically to compare 2 different aged games that’s what you have to do.

The thing is the Guild Wars games, both one and two, are explicitly made for grinding for vanity items. Gear, just regular old not special looking gear, is fairly easy to get. The game was specifically designed that if you want nice looking items, you have to grind for them. That’s why they are so expensive to craft. Now it could be argued that the requirements are set too high. I know that I have had to lower my expectations and change my wants because I was unwilling to do the necessary grinding. But as quoted here from https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/is-it-fun-colin-johanson-on-how-arenanet-measures-success/

“The rarest items have unique looks to help your character feel that sense of accomplishment, but it’s not required to play the game.”

They expected the items with unique looks to be rare and if something is rare, it is both expensive and not held by the average person.

Once you get your set of exotic armor and weapons, what else do you need? Everything past that is want, and many would put the exotics on the want list as well. So if it’s want vs. need, what you want is always expensive, in life or in game.

“I meant to talk about how a fellow with my record in the game has so little spending power because everything has been jacked up irrationally.”
I doubt that “your record” is so astonishing that you get a free pass on what you want. Everyone thinks that they are above average. ^^ You want money, you need to grind for it like everyone else.

This may not be a problem for everyone, but in certain situations like mine- it is.

I made the friendly but terrible mistake of sharing my username and have had to live with the fact that I have 70+ followers. I shot myself in the foot because I’m a pseudo-celebrity and now I have fans that follow me.

I thought at first it wouldn’t be that much.

My problem is my name has been shared and shared again and you wouldn’t believe the amount of whispers I get. I don’t run a guild or anything, I’m just someone who can’t devote all their time to responding to whispers. I explain my situation over and over again to the fans- that I’m far too busy to be able to talk with each of them. I’m as nice as I can be…and I’ve tried to own up to my mistake. But it does feel like I’m being punished.

I have maybe 3 hours a day to play if that…on a good day due to my profession. An hour or two responding to folks can take up all that time. Though I have been told I’m being too generous with my time- I can’t realistically get all these people to understand my situation…even if one or two folks get it.

Because they can see what map I’m on too- inevitably if they don’t get a response to their whisper, they’ll track me down in game.

Y’can’t be mean to these guys. There are some stalkers in every MMO, but what I have is just an abundance of nice people who if I don’t respond to I’m sure are a little crushed.

Blocking these folks is bad because they have their friends write me e-mails saying “I thought you were nice, but now I’m not so sure.”

Once again, this problem only affects probably a few people…but it’d be nice to -at least- have the ability to approve followers before they can track your online presence.

Or I guess I should just be a jerk. e_e

if by username you mean display name then everyone can see that, in quite a few ways rather easily (your actual username would be your email address actually, as that is what you uses to login), so i dont see how you sharing it is that big of a deal. So yeah i say be a jerk to them because imo they are being jerks to you if they whisper you, just to chat, and such if they never even talked or played with you before.

He said he was a pseudo-celebrity. My guess what he did is, tell people that know him as “Joe Smith” that his Guild Wars 2 username was Bunny.308. All the people that follow him (YouTube maybe?) now know that. They gave out his name to others and because he is a somewhat public figure, this means they all want to talk to him. And that he must want to talk to them. People are funny about celebrities, of any type.

Why just light armor? Why should they be favored? If they were going to do that it should be across all armor classes.

Opening the boxes takes money. And that feels like real life. People value money, sometimes very deeply. The emotions concerning it can be very strong. So when you have a feature in game that people feel like is cheating them out of their money, then a lot of emotions come out.

Well, I think it’s strange to feel cheated – it’s not like you opened the chest and got nothing. The point about it costing gold to be able to open the chest I think gets to the heart of the problem though. I agree with folks that only being able to get a skin through a BLC is not a great idea. It would be better if there was a chance to get them through other means in addition to the chests, like participating in the Living Story stuff.

Not only is it a rare drop, but you’re also completely at the mercy of the gold->gem conversion. The more people that want it, the harder it is to get a key to get a chance to get the skin. I don’t mind things like the HOMM rewards that require you to do certain things to earn them. I don’t mind really rare items like precursors where you can either get lucky or work hard to earn a bunch of gold. The more I think about it though, the less I like sticking unbuyable rare content in the BLCs. It would even be OK with me if the BLC only skins were just a variation on something you could buy, like the quaggan backpacks.

I think the other part of your post, about the items being account bound, is also part of it. If the tickets could be sold on the trading post, fewer people would be upset by the RNG nature of it. If the other items could be sold also then it wouldn’t be as annoying, for example, to get crafting boosters when crafting is maxed out. Knowing that you can spend money to not get what you want and get useless/unwanted items is a bad combination. I think that is where people are feeling cheated.

I have to agree with you there. GW2’s writing and characters aren’t good for a mature audience. Hell, even an audience of 14+ probably would like darker, richer, smarter characters.

This won’t cause a slow death for GW2 though. This just means someday something will come along that beats it.

I’m not sure how long they will be able to sustain this though. Their Achilles heel is a AAA MMO targeted to a mature audience. The Disney stuff might be tolerable for awhile but; it’ll get dumped really fast. Your average MMO gamers is over 30 and is demanding mature content.

Astral Projections.7320

I’m not sure how it is done but here’s a list of things which Don’t determine it:

  • Alphabetical order
  • Guild rank
  • Server/location
  • Date you joined the guild
  • Representing/not

The only consistent things seem to be that you’re always on top and people who are offline appear below those who are online.

My guess at the moment is that it’s in order of when you last logged in, with people currently online in order based on how long they’ve been logged in and people offline in order from when they last logged in.
(So for example someone who logged in 5 hours ago and is still online would be above someone who logged in an hour ago and then someone who logged out 2 minutes ago would be above someone who logged out an hour ago.)

I’m waiting for people in my guild to log in/out to test this.

That doesn’t explain why the order switched around when I went invisible though.

Or….. Maybe this is the endgame. Figuring out the logic behind the name order. :P

I don’t know of any soul bound items that drop from boss chest (unless you include ones with runes only available for dungeon tokens, like monk runes).

Well I tossed that in there because you can’t sell the contents that you get from a BL chest, which might be part of the reason folks are upset. You can’t directly compare opening a boss chest to a BLC simply because everything that comes out of the BLC is account bound.

Not everyone can buy keys (or wants to), but everyone can farm boss chests, freely. The playing the game part is the difference really versus sticking coins in a slot for the big prize. I’d personally rather play the game.

Edit – Oh duh, I totally missed your point about boss farming not costing anything. It costs something potentially in repair costs and way points and such, but there is no need to purchase a ticket to participate. That’s a good point.

Everyone can buy keys with in game gold, and sometimes get them dropped. I think that most folks have purchased items from the TP, so I just don’t get how that’s counted as OK from a “playing the game” perspective, but buying a key to open a chest with the gold you earned by playing the game doesn’t count as OK. Not many folks complain when they buy 50 moldy bags and don’t get a single (fill in rare crafting material) that they wanted dropped. Plenty of folks have lost a lot of gold on moldy bags while some folks have been luckier, but it’s not perceived as a problem.

I’m one of the folks that doesn’t buy keys, although I don’t have any particular bad feelings about them. I just think my gold is better spent on other things. I do use every one I get dropped though and got a nice chunk of influence for our personal guild, a total makeover kit (which my husband wanted, but I didn’t particularly want), revive orbs, money bags, more keys, and many other useful things. A lot of junk too which is a bummer because the only option is to destroy it.

I guess all of my BLC openings have been pleasant because I wasn’t looking for something in particular. Which circles back around to my original question of why it’s so much more painful to open a BL chest and not get what you want than it is to open a boss chest and not get what you want. Thinking about it as I’m typing all of this out leads me to feel more strongly that it has to do with everything from the chest being account bound and unable to be coverted into something more useful.

As to why it’s more painful to open up a box than kill a boss and not get the item you want. I’m going to say that’s its because the type of effort is different and valued differently. Killing a boss and getting loot is part of the game. Sometimes the loot is so so and sometimes it’s spectacular. But it’s still part of the game. Opening the boxes takes money. And that feels like real life. People value money, sometimes very deeply. The emotions concerning it can be very strong. So when you have a feature in game that people feel like is cheating them out of their money, then a lot of emotions come out.

A lot of us don’t want automatically gendered outfits, though. I have no problem with there being separate items available that are traditionally feminine, but I hate it when outfits look super-different on my female character than it would on a male one. For instance, I have a pirate-themed female human character, but I don’t like the way that the cash shop pirate outfit goes super-skimpy just because she’s female.

Sure, release two styles of outfit and let people buy whichever one they prefer for their character. Don’t release one outfit that gives players no choice as to how it appears according to gender.

So, you are suggesting maybe a “masculine” version and a “feminine” version that both sexes can wear? You are likely to get men in dresses with that. ^^ Wouldn’t bother me but I can see how that might stir up a few people.

Just wow..

Or just put the armor skins you mentioned in the gem store, available to everyone. Why does it need to be restricted to Guild Wars 1 players only? What does that gain besides annoying everyone else?

They are exclusive rewards for gw1 veterans, they are not supposed to be available for everyone else. Besides, you can still get them if you play gw1.

How about you earn things in this new game.
What you earned or did in a previous game means nothing, earn your props in the new game.

It doesn’t matter whether you earn it in gw1 or gw2. The only thing that matters is that you earn it.

Actually I do have HoM, 50/50. What I was arguing against was putting the elite, new armor in game that the OP was talking about, only available thru HoM. That’s what the discussion is about. Not the old rewards.

In the contacts menu you can set your status to LFG. It puts you on a list (in the contacts menu) that everyone in the map can see.

Yeah, but it doesn’t tell you what they want to group for. Is it to… Get a skill point? Farm for something? Lonely and want company? Area completion? Yeah, I know you could ask. And really, how many times have you asked someone what they wanted when you saw that? I know I never do. And you have to actually see them. A Guild Wars 1 LFG, which showed up as a panel with a description of what was wanted and how many are already in the group would be more useful.

All weapon and armor skins now have the option to be converted to PvP skins. When activating a skin you will be given the choice to either apply the skin to a PvE item or convert the skin to a PvP-only item. Either action will consume the skin. This change applies to all unused weapon and armor skins in the game, regardless of when the skin was first released.

What is the point of leader boards?

Doesn’t salvaging get you achievement points, and a lot of them? They should remove those points from the Leaderboards then it would be a bit more meaningful. Reaching the top because you salvaged a lot of rags doesn’t sound epic.

Can you use 2 items from laurel vendor?

Not having played other MMOs, I didn’t know unique meant you can’t wear 2 of the same. I had thought it meant merely that you wouldn’t find those exact stats on another item. If something is unique, in the real meaning of the word, it means there is literally only one of them and only one person in the entire universe could have it. Since the word unique here does not have the normal dictionary meaning, then the ingame meaning should be spelled out somewhere. Perhaps by the NPC who sells them.

Female Clothing

They had male/female versions of outfits in Guild Wars 1.

Just as examples. Almost all their costumes had a male/female version. They could design outfits that looked different, depending on whether your character was male or female. Sort of like how the cook outfit changes according to race. On my Sylvari, it’s leafy. On my other character, it’s cloth.

Edit: my guess the problem is the multiple races. They have to design at least 5 different versions of each outfit as is. If you make a male/female version then it’s the 2 separate designs then another 5 designs, so it adds up. A lot simpler just to make a unisex version.

An excellent question. They are undoubtably a temporary addition to the chests and will be removed after the last installment of Flame and Frost ths month. I would hazard a guess and say one month later, max.

Or just put the armor skins you mentioned in the gem store, available to everyone. Why does it need to be restricted to Guild Wars 1 players only? What does that gain besides annoying everyone else?

+1
It would really help with larger groups. Once you’ve split up into more than one group it’s a real pain keeping track of each other. Being able to see each other’s dots would make a big difference.

What determines name order in guild window?

It’s not alphabetical by character name or account name. I logged on this morning and checked. There were 2 others on. One representing (rep) and one who wasn’t (non rep) and who hadn’t in a month or more. So the order was me, rep, non rep. I then went invisible for a minute then visible. It was then me, non rep, rep. The only other factor I saw was that the rep came into my zone, but the order might have switched simply because I went invisible and didn’t switch back.

Now, I need to know who thought of having the beedog scoot on its butt? I laughed out loud the first time I saw him do that with his eyes getting all wonky and it still makes me snicker.

ANet moves in mysterious ways, their wonders to perform. After seeing numerous threads asking for more armor skins, their artists get together to make, TADA, town clothes and zero armor skins.
