Ah, I see what you mean now. Well, the only way at this time is to continually go to higher zones, which something you don’t want to do? Ummm, use only starter armor and weapons? At this point, that may be as good as its going to get. Don’t assign trait or skill points, go with low level or no armor and use only low level weapons. I’m afraid it’s not realistic to think the Devs will do a rewrite of the code for what you want when only a few people are asking for it. :-)
I think the problem is that there are 3 zones of unremitting Orrness, where there could be just one. The 2 top zones could be more gradiated in darkness, bleakness, number of zombies, and removal of other mobs, including non hostile yellow mobs until you get to true Orr. Which is then completely bleak with only undead. To break it up, even some of those could be yellow nonhostiles, such as ghosts. There could even be a range of yellows such as vampires, ghouls or creatures taken from other cultures.
The human eye and psyche does not enjoy looking at bleak wastelands. It’s depressing. It turns people off and makes them avoid the area. To overcome this natural aversion, the rewards for going there have to be fantastic, which they aren’t. So this leads to an emptying out if the area. As people stop going there, it becomes harder for soloers. Which leads to further avoidance. To bring people back to Orr, they need to change the appearance or increase the rewards.

Or maybe just levels?
Coming from City of Heroes, another game that was casual and easy to level up, it also had the option to turn off experience gain in exchange for higher gains in influence(gold/currency).
I don’t want more gold or whatever though. I just want to have the chance to sit at a level, enjoy the gear I have and the areas available without worrying about levels, trait points and gear upgrades until I’m good and ready to move on.
Well, no one is making you worry about levels, trait points or gear upgrades besides yourself. ^^ If you want to stay in a particular level zone then stay. You don’t need to assign trait points, skill points or buy new gear until you feel like doing so.
But the content does not stay at the same challenge level.
Also, you can gain levels constantly just by exploring or doing dailies. Are you going to tell me I should not explore or do dailies? Or seek out harder content?
You are scaled down to match the levels, and if you don’t spend trait point, skill points or get better gear then you will not be stronger than a person who is level appropriate. You will be weaker than someone who is actually level appropriate who has spent points and geared up. At that point you are only potentially stronger, not actually stronger.
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Sidekick
This article assumes you have assigned trait points and it talks about how those are reduced to match the area. If you don’t assign them, of course, you will be weaker than that.

If you are planning to pick your main on the basis of possible future compliments rather than what you personally enjoy playing………. Hmmmm. You already said Guardian may be to boring. I would say that rules out Warrior also. Maybe Mesmer. Always useful and can be complex.

I don’t understand why people dislike Orr. It does have colors, both black AND white (well, more of a grey). A multitude of different creatures, risen this, risen that AND risen whatever. How can you look at this and not see a deep variety? True, everything hates you so no slacking off and smelling the undead flowers. True, farming isn’t so great there anymore. True, the temples are contested most of the time making getting around a pain and a chore. Whaddya want? Some kind of fun experience?
if you root it, you can install apps from google play…..google it
Root it?
Edit: googled. I’m an older person, old enough to have AARP interested in me. ^^ Not particularly computer literate. I’ll have to study that and see if that’s something I want to attempt. As it says in the site I looked up.
There’s something important to keep in mind before you get started. Rooting your tablet and mucking around with the /system/ directory can be a bit risky. If anything goes wrong, you could end up with an unbootable tablet — and since the Kindle Fire has a locked bootloader, there’s no simple way to restore from a backup or re-install the operating system yet.
A little risky maybe for someone whose main computer expertise is hitting the on button. ^^

Well, did you try changing the spelling a bit or adding a surname? If, for example, you wanted to use the name Varsch (random name) and it was taken, how about Varsche or Vaerch or Varsch Backstabber? Surely every variation wasn’t taken.
Unless you want to farm dungeons or mats extensively, if you only play a couple of hours a day you are not going to make a lot of money. 2 to 3 gold a day is very reasonable then. Your best bet if you want to farm is learning how to speed clear dungeons and get on a team. You might want to consider whether a Legendary is a viable goal. If you decide it is, you are going to have to stop “playing” and put your nose to the grindstone to farm the necessary money and materials. Not everyone is going for a Legendary. A large number of players are not and its not necessary for the game.

If I’m short on time i can go to the low level areas and get the daily done fast. In the Norn noob area I know where the events are, they are close together and they run frequently. It’s also a good spot to get dodges done. If I need heals, Metrica has the Reactor filled with constantly dying NPCs. Caledon has a mini dungeon filled with veterans, good for both the daily and monthly. Queensdale has a lot of ambients. They are just a good place to go when time is limited, or just to finish up what you need at the end of a play period.
I use the autocast on heal when I just want to idle in LA for an hour or so without being kicked, so yes it does work.
You don’t really need to gear up that often. I usually buy new armor and weapons about every 10 levels but even that doesn’t really feel necessary. Unless your gear is way below the level of the area you are in, you probably don’t need to worry about it.
I read they have one for an iPhone, but I don’t own an iPhone. I do have a kindle and an iPad. If an authenticator was available for either of those, that would be great.
Fried computer, served over toast. Mmmmmm. Sounds delish.
Or, they might have new professions with a new expansion. That’s what they did with Guild Wars 1 and I would think it very probable. For example, Factions had Ritualist and Assassins added and Nightfall had Dervish and Paragons.
I don’t know if I would not play a profession now. Waiting for whenever Tengu come out, and if I am still playing at that time, and if they don’t have a profession released that suits the Tengu better than the current ones. I recommend you simply play the game and enjoy it now. The Tengu may not be released for one or two years. You could be playing that profession and enjoying it that whole time. :-)

If you delete a character, the name is reserved for your account for 24 hours, if that’s what you are asking. They had this feature in Guild Wars 1, so that you wouldn’t lose a name by deleting a character in order to remake it.
Most of the faces (all races) look like they used a template and then varied from there. Was time or money a factor? They had several years so I doubt time and I assume they paid the artists a salary to work for them, so I doubt money. My guess is that studies have shown them that people may say they want variation in faces, but when it comes to actually choosing the faces on creation day, everyone chooses the same ones. Look at the faces for female Asura for example. There are several non cute faces, but the majority of people choose one or two of the available options, specifically, the cutest ones.
So why should a company invest time and money for faces that people don’t use? If their studies show that the majority will select the same few faces, then they are best served by making those faces and then varying them a little.

Wow, this is an excellent find. It should be stickied and be required reading for all the forum warriors.
You did it in a couple of days, congrats, I haven’t. You think it should be harder, I don’t.
Very few people are going to play enough to do it that fast. You are a minority.
@Seras:
You loot a sonic listening device and get an audio log, which you turn in to an NPC with one of those orange basket things over their heads.

Faux Foliage ^^
They did say rare. But there’s rare and there’s RARE. They should let the buyers know the odds. It’s one thing to gamble for 1 in 10 odds, another for 1 in 100. People are entitled to know which it is before they spend their money. It’s odd, and somewhat suspicious, that ANet refuses to let the buyers know what the drop rate is.
If you have an empty character slot, you can do key runs. Human, warrior, commoner. Takes about 30 minutes or so. After reading about people who spent the money for 100 plus chests without getting even one, its hard to justify wasting money for keys. At least this way you only waste time.

Systems and Rewards Supporting the Living World
To make playing in our open world worthwhile, we’ll make it rewarding enough for players to spend their time there across all levels. It’s extremely important that we stay true to our philosophy that you should be able to play Guild Wars 2 the way you want to play the game in order to reach the most powerful rewards.

Strange, this doesn’t support your theory.
Guild Wars 1 anti farming code: from the wiki
http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Anti-farm_code
I would have to say casual means non directed play. The player goes wherever the whim takes him/her. So hardcore would be more focused on specific goals, such as a specific set of dungeon armor or getting a legendary. I wouldn’t count the number of hours played per day or week.
There is a mini dungeon is Caledon Forrest, southwest of the Falias Thorp waypoint inside a Hylek village. There are a number of veterans in there, all anxious to meet and greet you personally if you venture inside. Plus they respawn.
You have weapon master title? All the slayer titles? Killing 1000 giants will keep you busy for a bit. ^^
They always have done funny things for April Fools. Turning your characters into stick figures, gender reversals, making the characters tiny and the mini pets large are just a few of them. This is within that tradition and a very clever and well thought out way to give people a fun mini game for this month. If you don’t like it, then you don’t have to do it.
Agree, I’m not normally someone who is bothered by this sort of thing, but it’s getting to be too much. I find myself minimizing the notifications over and over again, as they repeatedly pop back up and block the screen. There is a long list of stuff, most of which I am not working on, spilling down the side of my screen and each new event adds more. There needs to be some sort of toggle where you can clear individual items off your screen. I gather it hasn’t been implemented because ANet is worried about clueless people who turn it off and can’t turn it back on but it’s turning into an eyesore. Maybe if it just showed up when you log on each day so you can see the list and then they fade. A toggle to turn them back on if you want to look at them.
Just put the fused weapon skins for sale directly in the gem shop, say 400 to 800 gems. Then the people who don’t want to gamble can just buy them directly. And no, they don’t need to be high priced like they are some kind of sub legendary weapon. They are just a weapon skin.

You can get to LA for free using the mists, but it means everyone goes to LA. The other cities are underutilized. Instead of the Black Citadel being a gathering spot for Charr, Divinities Reach for humans, etc, everyone stands around in LA. It would give the game a bit of flavor if each race could hearth and gather around at their racial city. You could still use the mists if you wanted to go to LA instead.
That’s a flag? I thought it was a crawly human thingy, (a woman propped up on one arm). I had wondered what she had to do with reporting people.

I love the glow.. Makes them look like a holograph, which I believe is what they are supposed to look like.
Please leave the glow alone ANet.
I bought a set, mostly to thank ANet for not selling them thru RNG. However I have fallen in love with them, especially the bee dog. He is soooo cute when he moves his head and pants. And I about died laughing when he scooted on his butt.
Lol the filter won’t let me say how he moves his head, changes it to kittens.
(edited by Astral Projections.7320)
One way I know to get there is to jump off of Rata Sum, allll the way to the ground below (splat). You then use a revive orb. After you run around down there for a while you are teleported to the jail. I’ve been in that jail once by doing that. :-)
They’ve always had vanity item grind. The stuff you need is fairly easy to get. If it’s vanity, you can expect to put in some serious grind for it.
For example, chaos gloves which needed 75 globs of ectoplasm. http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/File:Chaos_Gloves_dye_chart.jpg
You had to either farm ectos from an endgame dungeon or pay a lot of ingame money.
The few times I have managed to get this event after the change in the timer has not been positive. Either a LONNNNGG wait while the timer ticks over then restarts or giving up and going elsewhere. Lots of frustrated people there now means that when it does start, it goes thru so fast it’s a joke. Mobs disappear as soon as they appear. The portals go down as soon as you reach them. The champion is at half health by the time you make the 5 second run back to him.
Ths would be improved by reverting back to the old timer and having one chest per account per day. People would do it and move on. The crowds would be dispersed across time, not all bunched up. There wouldn’t be these massive groups of people, scrambling to get one hit in before it ends.
Tl:DR. Please ANet. Revert the timer back.
Make a profession, go to the mists and try it out there. See how you like it. You will have all weapons, skills, and traits available to you there so you can get some idea of how they do. As to having other people recommend for you, it doesn’t work out well. I know the ele is powerful with a skilled person but I found it weak and stressful to play (obviously not skilled with ele). Some people like ranger a lot, others find it a snooze fest. It all comes down to the play style you like. If you like high maintenance, then ele. If you like more laid back with positioning, then ranger.
I wouldn’t mind having my Celestial bow again with the little stars swirling around it.
Is it an easy addition? The game would need some way to tell cities from non cities. If the only difference between the two is that cities do not currently have mobs, then how would the auto toggle know when to turn on or off?
In theory, you would have a whitelist containing the internal names for the major cities and a toggleable flag that causes the player to switch into town clothing when they enter those cities. Once they left that city and enter a region not on the whitelist, then they revert back.
In practice? Who knows. I’m not a programmer so my theory could be a million miles away from reality.
Yes, that does sound like a possible work around, not being a programmer either. I just wanted to point out tho that it probably isn’t as easy as a lot of people seem to think. People seem to think that only a minor change needs to be put in to allow a toggle. My guess is, there would have to be some sort of reworking of the areas to allow a toggle to recognize different areas and it would not necessarily be a minor change.
OP, you are confusing etiquette concerning personal conversation with business conversation. Essentially, you are acting as a business soliciting new customers (guild members) by randomly inviting strangers, just like an employee outside a business asking passerby’s to come inside. That employee doesn’t reasonably expect those people to personally decline his invitation and neither should you.
Is it an easy addition? The game would need some way to tell cities from non cities. If the only difference between the two is that cities do not currently have mobs, then how would the auto toggle know when to turn on or off?
If there are some underpopulated zones on some worlds, it’s best to create incentives for people to group together. And that’s what ANet has been doing: creating new stories (Frost & Flame), increasing the loot from world events, and creating dailies that give people a reason to head to lower-level or less-populated areas.
The Living Story took me 3-4h to complete totally in these 2-3 months . I find nothing else interesting to do there. When the dailies are in Shiverpeaks, I only do them in the green aria to the south and return to Queensadale.
I think its is harder to add incentives to each zone than add this cosmetic suggestion for solving that problem.
Most people don’t play solo because they want to, but because there is nobody around to help them. They don’t need more incentives to be there they need more help to go around that zone.
People playing solo when they don’t want to is a problem. A problem that is not addressed by saying, join a guild or make friends. Even when you join a guild or make friends, that doesn’t mean they are on when you are or can stop what they are doing to waypoint to your spot to help you out. The current “looking for group” feature is useless. People don’t join up with you as they have no idea what you want to group up for.
Maybe a limited range, modified, looking for group feature. You add to it what you are trying to do. When people come into range, it shows up on chat, [Character name] wants help to do [name of what is needed]. That way people know you want help with something in particular and they can either chose to help out or go on. People who don’t want to help can simply not have this enabled in chat.
Only real reasons to play now is to see the way the land used to look (greatly changed now), the lore (so as to know the background information) or to get Hall of Monument items and titles. The two games otherwise are so different as to not be really comparable. You could give it a try, but would need to treat them as two separate games that you like to play at the same time.
ANet already ruled out heroes, mercenaries and henchmen for the same reason they would not implement this suggestion. They saw how using NPC characters as party members in gw1 decreased the amount of player-player interactions, as everyone then could essentially solo the game. They want you to group up with other people playing, not with NPCs.
Proper use of periods and sentences will make what you write less of a pain to read. Also, correct spelling is a plus if you want people to take what you write seriously. Throwing it on the page in a splatter of words says you don’t care about your own suggestion.
(edited by Astral Projections.7320)
In other words, you want Heroes or Mercenaries back? Mercenaries in gw1 were clones of your alts that you could get to max level and get gear and weapons for while you used them as party members. Heroes were ingame NPCs that you could get to max level, gear up and use in a party. This would be a better system than some arrangement of using other people’s accounts.
(edited by Astral Projections.7320)
I wouldn’t mind having one of those weapons, but not going to pay money for RNG. Guess I will do key runs and see if I can get one that way. (Human, warrior, commoner).
Not much to spend karma on. Orr boxes as mentioned before. Cultural weapons, up to 63k karma each. They will be soulbound so you will have to break the soulbinding to make them account bound. Some of the cultural weapon sellers also sell fine salvage kits for karma, I use those to salvage white items. Ummmmm, I think that’s about it.
78 gold. 4 characters in full exotics. 4 more need to be done so I will be poor pretty soon. Mostly get gold by farming level 80 zones.
