Yeah. Your pagefile.sys file is disappearing and or being temperamental. If you have more than 8 GB of RAM, do yourself and SSD a favor and disable it. Or move it to the hard drive if you have that and want to continue using a pagefile for virtual memory. Swap files (page files) are HORRIBLE on SSD life spans.

Hey look. Another topic Turning into a Mantle discussion. Why not everyone just go make a thread titled “MANTLE”

Seriously. Mantle is not going to happen anytime soon for Guild Wars 2, if at all. Even if it did, it’ll probably be ‘optimized’ by then to run 30 fps everywhere on even Toaster specs. WVW might even have 60 FPS on a high clocked intel i3 by then.

“How to achieve 60 fps min In WvW Zergs”

Answer:
Intel i7 4960X @ 7 Ghz.
Single Graphics card unit with high enough clock rate to keep the FPS at that number with all of the particle effects going on. Say, GTX 670 at least.

Would you ever load a torrented version of windows onto a computer? Given that it was already tested and showing no signs of corruption and such?
(I feel childish asking this question, but I am general curious)

Downloading a version of Windows via BitTorrent, I don’t really think it’s something that is not allowed, but making it work without an activation code is. However discussing this sort of thing I don’t think is allowed on the forums.

The brand I’ve been using for the most part has been one of the more out of the way kind. More thant VisonTek in fact. I’ve been using Diamond Multimedia since my 3650. 3650, 5770, and now two 7970s. I’d actually recommend the R9 270 or 270X from MSi with the Twin Frozr. I put one of those in my Dad’s PC and it’s a killer card and looks awesome as well.

@Avelos Is there any game that requires one over the other (Mantle v. Physx)

Not that I know of if you’re asking if there’s any game that uses both. I know there’s only three titles currently using Mantle that are known, one of which is fully on the market.

@avelos Im not in either camp, when the r9 series launched they were priced amazingly, but the subsequent price hikes for almost the entire range and the price drops on nvidia’s cards have made the radeons harder to recommend on price/performance. unless you are playing primarly bf4 =p

I recommend Radeons because I’ve been using them since Radeon HD 3650 My first graphics card.

Just to clarify though I’m really hoping this thread doesn’t turn into a discussion about Mantle or Physx and take OP’s topic waaaay off track like the last one I responded to. It’s totally unneeded and Guild Wars 2 will most likely not even get Mantle anyway, let aone Direct X 11 so staying on topic is more important.

But hey if OP is asking about a computer that can play Guild Wars 2 AND other games then sure why not? It’s all good.

The main difference between the three components you asked,
The i5 4430 is a locked quad core at 3 GHz. Nothing special but it will handle just about anything you tell it to do like the 4670K, which is an unlocked 3.4 GHz quad core and the 4670K with the Z87 chipset is an overclocking motherboard. You can get more performance out of it without spending more money.

The board paired with the i5 4430 is an H87. H87 is a very much dumbed down version of the Z87 featuring only essential bits of the Z87. H87 I think is the third one down the line. I’m not entirely sure how it goes but I think it goes Z series, H series, Q series, and then B series for business. So I guess the H series is the second tier.

i5 4430 and H87 board combo is a very inexpensive combo compared to the other.
A good compromise between the two CPU is the impressive i5 4570.
Keep in mind you can pair any Haswell processor with a Z87 board as long as it supports it. You can get all of the goodie Z87 features without needing an unlocked processor.

the GTX 760 and Radeon R9 270X are very similar. One of them supports PhysX and the other supports Mantle (Radeon Mantle, Nvidia PhysX) Neither of which will ever be implemented in this game (For the love of god, please do not turn this topic into another STUPID mantle topic.)

A lot of the time people will think that they need a huge power supply for a fair build like this as well. Some people opting for a 650-700 watt power supply that supports multi card setups. 500W will carry this spec list, a 450 can do it too. Easily if you don’t want to overclock.

Tip: Instead of R9 270X, look for R9 270. They are EXACTLY the same, just the R9 270 is less expensive.

Some non K variant processors can overclock on the Intel line. It’s just not easy to do however, because at that point you have to increase the base clock frequency without the multiplier. Some people have had phenomenal success, however. It’s a chance that it can work, and if it does, then you just saved some money by buying a non-unlocked processor. Food for thought! Remember though, the board also has to be able to overclock and have access to increasing numbers like those.

Best way to go is for higher base clocks, er, like 3.5 GHz, or 4 GHz that sort of thing. FX-8350 speed. you know, and suggest other ideas as well just in case the topic creator doesn’t know how to overclock. I hardly did but then again, it was fairly easy for me to overclock my i7 4770K after watching a video tutorial from Asus’ very own JJ overclocking his 4770K to 4.6 GHz with the Maximus VI Formula (which I also have) and I have since got mine to 4.4 (Stable at, very finnicky at kitten far)

I don’t know why a topic about part comparison and recommendations turned into some MANTLE topic. Way off topic imo. Tip: Mantle is only in 2 or 3 games, one of which is actually available on the market, completely. Mantle isn’t happening for everything NOW. It will be put into more games in the future but consider this: Guild Wars 2 won’t get mantle. And even if it did, it would probably even be two years from now. Developers can’t just be like “Hey let’s put DX11/ Mantle into this!” and get it out next week. It takes time. Not just to rewrite it, but to make sure EVERYTHING works.

It’d basically be remaking Guild Wars 2. Why bother for now if we already know what makes the game run better? If you’re building just for guild wars 2, you know what to get. If you want other things to do, then consider the pros and cons of each brand name.

Anyway OP, your best bet would be any of the i5 processors ivy bridge or haswell, or a high clocked Intel i3 Haswell (Haswell because it’s a little faster than Ivy.

I think that there is really no point in waiting for the next generation processor because, it’s only going to support one processor and possibly the previous generation processor. It’s pointless. And then someone will say “WAAAAAAIIIT FOR THE NEXT GEN!” like they’re some sort of rapture or something. If you wait and wait for the next gen, repeat after reading millions of reviews about LITTLE things (especially ones that gamers don’t care about because they want power and speed) with the processor that in almost all cases will not effect you, you might as well stick with using ten year old crap until it burns out and dies on you.

However, if the wait were be for a completely brand new processor, such as like the AMD A10-7850K and you’re currently using something like a first generation AMD FX-4 series, why not? Jump on that stuff. The new 7850K is looking pretty good.

Topic creator:
I recommend,
high clocked Intel i3 Haswell, or any Haswell i5 processor (you could also go with an ivy 3570K if you want, they’re still good of course, 4670K for the same overclocking features but Haswell)
8 GB of RAM,
There’s a few graphics cards you can get. I read that apparently GW2 can use more than 1 GB of VRAM despite being a DirectX 9 game so I’d say look at 2 GB versions of graphics cards. There’s some Radeon HD 7770, maybe a 7790, definitely check out Radeon HD 7850 2 GB, GTX 650TI 2GB or GTX 650TI BOOST 2GB, GTX 660 2GB or 660TI 2GB.

That’s the main specs I’d look into for a mainstream PC for Guild Wars 2 that can get maximum enjoyment.

From AMD FX-6120 to i7 Extreme Edition,
Go outside at midnight. Go back inside.
Go back outside at mid noon. Go back inside.
That is the difference.
For GW2 anyway.
But it is, let me stress this, NOT NEEDED FOR GUILD WARS 2.
i5 4670K will still CRUSH an FX-6120.

Looking through the thread, a GTX 760 is NOT needed to enjoy this game at it’s maximum potential. A 9800GT can do alright, but if GW2 is the ONLY game you play, GTX 760 is way too much. a GTX 650 TI will eat this game alive, even a Radeon HD 7790 will do the trick. The i3 will do well enough. A guild mate of mine has an overclocked i3 and it eats this game alive.

Reference GTX 780 TIs don’t run hot if you consider hot to be 80+ degrees. Reference models (Titan cooler) has a vapor chamber and most I ever heard of from a buddy was 53 degrees. On Linus’ Tech Tips I think he said he was unable to get it past 83 degrees. 290X was over 90 and it’s just an air cooler for reference.

That’s if you can get the GPU to run natively in x16 lanes. Both of my 7970s run at x8. they did on my AM3+ platform and they run the same on this Intel platform. Sure if my 7970 in the first slot ran natively at 16x I might see slight performance increase but honestly I don’t really care. The FPS is enjoyable in all areas I play in. I don’t expect any single card to fully use x16 lanes unless it was like a Radeon HD 6990/7990/ GTX 590/690/760×2

Unless you go pick up something from Acer that’s actually built for gaming like one of those Acer Predators or something. They made those back in 1st gen i7 series, I dunno about now though.

Using a 7750 on an OEM computer PSU 300w really depends on the other hardware. If it’s an Acer for example rocking an i7 4770, 16 GB DDR3 and a 2TB HDD, it’s not going to run. I know this from experience. And since it didn’t run, it was returned and I then built my dad a much muuuuuuuuch better PC without proprietary crap (motherboard, psu)

You have to buy another motherboard as well then, though.

You could also check out places like Amazon or newegg or ebay for quad core versions of your CPU and see if your board supports it. I’d do that first if you’re not interested in spending too much for brand new hardware. A working refurb for little money is always nice haha. Or used, whichever.

I can’t spot any issue with your 7750. It’s running as it should.

If you’re just talking for Guild Wars 2, an upgrade to your graphics card will have little to no noticeable effect. This game is bound by the power of your processor. Overclock your i5 2500K, get more FPS.

Tips to increase your FPS would be to turn off shadows and reflections.

However if you want to update your graphics for other games, a GTX 760/770 or AMD Radeon HD 7970 / R9 2280X (same card different name) or R9 270X (step below 7970 but faster than 6970)

What I mean is, GW2 will use up to around 3.8 GB of RAM. If it runs out of RAM to burn, it crashes. OP says there’s 2.75 GB useful. Therefore in any event with lots happening such as the marionette battle, it’s gonna have a higher chance of crashing. Cleaning the modules and slots might do something but if the crash persists, I’d look into seeing if the board supports more than 4 GB and get a second stick of preferrably the same spec and installing it. (Not having the same spec won’t make too much of a difference. I had 4 sticks of 3 different spec’d RAM and they worked just fine but it was also a crappy computer)

I got the impression that he was left with 2.75 GB after GW2 was counted in. In any case I have not seen my system eating anywhere near 3.8 GB, even in WvW. It’s mostly siting at 2.5 GB and it rises a bit, maybe to 3 gigs when a lot of stuff is happening. Also it has been tested that a system will eat up more RAM when there’s more of it available, i.e. 8 gig system will have more used in a same situation than a 4 gig system, so if you have 8 GB you might be seeing higher reading than him.

Oh of course. I have 16 GB of RAM and the system only burns around 2 GB without a game. 8 GB will probably do the same. My game has reached to 3.5 GB used in just Lion’s Arch at one point, however.
