What a silly post. Of course, it’s one of the features of HoT. Are you new?

There are a lot of other exclusive HoT-only things. I’m not sure why you’re so surprised.

That’s the entire point of expansions, “to expand” – so if you want to raid, buy it and support ArenaNet.

Will this expansion address issues in PvE?

Avster.1935

Yeah that pretty much addresses most of my concerns. I don’t understand why they would abandon dungeons, though. That’s a lot of PvE content right there for players.

It’s because most players don’t care about dungeons. Open world content is where it’s at. Time spent updating dungeons would largely be time wasted.

What? Don’t mix opinion with fact. There are dungeon LFG posts every day out there, that get’s insta-full. Granted that they are 80s only party most of the time. Try checking the LFG posts right after Tequatl fight – that’s the prime time since everyone hops on to get their daily dungeon runs done.

ANet just abandoned them, but they’ve taken different approaches to address this. mainly high level fractal and raids, where “skill” plays a very important role in your success. And with a game such as GW2 with such amazing combat mechanics, it’s a shame if you don’t put the effort to utilize it.

Guilds: Activate Recruit Mode!

in Looking for...

Posted by: Avster.1935

Avster.1935

Hello friends & curious on-lookers,

Shadows of Ravenloft [SOR] is recruiting! So grab a drink, relax and spare us 5 minute of your time.

I’m going start off with the kicker here, then go down into more of the F.A.Q.

The big question, why should I join SOR?

In SOR, you are not another number. In my personal humble opinion, I do not believe in massive guilds. Find a large guild (400~ members) and ask them if they know EVERY member in their guild. Chances are, they don’t…and that’s fine! They have other objectives as a guild and likewise, SOR has their own agenda.

We want you to feel like you are at home. You are not another number, you are a friend. You matter. There is always a helping hand available in SOR to guide you through the game if you are new / returning or old! Know that your questions are not a hassle! We are here to help you. Most veteran members and officers have been playing since BETA Weekend, so we have 3+ years of experience and knowledge in the know-hows of Tyria and who knows maybe you have something that we can learn from as well!

Now that we have that out of the way,

Who are we?

SOR is a guild founded in Guild Wars (EST. 2005) and like many others has transitioned into GW2! We are primarily a PvE guild, but have a few sPvP enthusiasts amongst ourselves.

Where do we reside?

SOR was established in Jade Quarry (server), but has members across servers as well. As we are not heavily WvW focused, your server does not matter!

What time do you usually play?
- Weekdays: Mostly evening & night CST/EST after-work (we do have some people randomly logging in early morning or in the afternoon though)
- Weekends: Anytime!

How many active players do you have? What is your total number of members?

As we speak, we are currently sitting on 120 members, but truthfully, I can say that we have around 20-30 members login during week nights.

What kind of activities do you do?

Everything a guild does for fun! We chat, we provide help with whatever content you are stuck on, and in general we just try to have a good time. Basically we do,
• Open World PvE Events (Silverwastes, World Bosses)
• Organized Guild Missions (Every Friday at 10PM EST)
• Organized Dungeon Runs (Every Saturday at 10PM EST)
• Guild Lucky Raffle Draws (happens during guild missions)
• Impromptu & sometimes daily, dungeon & fractal runs (we have quite a lot of people with 70+ AR), and organized guild sPvP.

What is your rep requirement?

We don’t have a 100% rep requirement in SOR. However, if you could at least drop by and get to know us, that would be lovely. Why else would you want to join a guild if you won’t interact with its members? :p If you do want to be a full-fledged member going forward though, we’d like at least 60% rep time

So you said you don’t want a large guild! How many are you recruiting?

Like I said before, I want SOR to be a group of friends that we know and care for. The ideal number of new recruits would be around 15-20 active members. So that we can actually get to know you, spend time with you and not just group you in the “New Recruits” category.

Do you have mandatory…anything?

Nope. At the end of the day, this a game, and we are all here to have a good time.

A good sense of humour is also bonus.

If you are interested, you can send an in-game email, or whisper any one of us for an invite!

Ranger All Content

in Ranger

Posted by: Avster.1935

Avster.1935

Did fractal 50 (currently the “most challenging” end-game PvE dungeon) last night with 2 rangers, 1 warrior, 1 guard, 1 elementalist. The rotation was (swamp, dredge, cliff, aether (mai)). Havn’t fully wiped once – completed the run in an hr (which is pretty good considering the length of some of those fractals)

TL;DR – If you’re a competant player, it doesn’t matter what toon you pick, play what fits you.

My interaction with Ranger has been pretty bipolar: Some I’ve met are downright horrible, but others, mostly at high level PvE, tend to deliver. It really is all about understanding what to use (traits/utilities/weapons) and when to use it.

Rant on DROPS/Gaining Wealth.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Avster.1935

Avster.1935

does anyone truly like the way drops work in this game?

The rant behind your rant is about Legendaries. So my short answer is “No – no one actually ‘likes’ the way drops work in this game”.

Legendaries are lame anyway – it’s FAR more strategic (and easier AND cheaper) to craft multiple Ascended greatswords/whatever for different purposes with different Sigils and do a quick swap than it is to change the stats from the drop down on the Legendary itself (and with the Legendary, you are locked into the same Sigils).

Anet keeps the economy the way it is because they make real world money through it.

Just curious, is the most expensive BIS gear always “lame” to you? I agree that it’s far more economical to get multiple ascended weapons, but it’s just not the same as having a single legendary. They are after all, called “Legendary” for a reason. How else would you make legendary’s “feel” better in terms of utility? In terms of “looks” – since Anet didn’t want to create a gear treadmill (which is a great choice btw) – They created legendaries to be the fanciest of fancies. You can’t blame people for wanting to get them.

//SideRant (not directed at the quote)
And then there are some hipsters who are like I see “Sunrise” every other second, I’m going to make “Foefire’s Essence” because I think it’s cooler! Well good for him/her – the reason there are “more” people with legendaries is because they all think it’s better looking anyway, otherwise most people would make “Foefire’s Essence” instead
//EndRant

There will not be raids like people think of when you think of WoW or other games. Will never happen. Will there be like possible 8 or 10 person content like we saw in GW1 with Underworld and Fissure of Woe, likely. But it won’t be anything like what people think of when it comes to raiding.

I know, it’s a little disheartening. But I can dream right XD either way excited to see the GW2 take on things.

No, it’s not disheartening. It’s refreshing that GW is a game that doesn’t force it’s player base to feel like they have a job to play the game, to run the same 1 or 2 instances 4 hours a night for 4 or 5 nights a week for months on end only to have the gear replaced within 2 days of an expansion coming out.

And for the record, I was in one of the top WoW guilds on Black Dragonflight with quite a few server firsts. I don’t say that to brag because honestly it was nothing to brag about. Raids may be good for games designed around it but GW is not one of those games. For one thing, if they were to bring in WoW style raids, within 1 day we would see forum topics of “Hey, I’m a special snowflake raider and it’s not fair someone can get to 80 and have the same stat gear and skins as I do. You need to make raiding gear different and better!!!!”. And then when the second raid would come out “How dare you not put better stats on this raids gear than on the other one!!! I’ll quit if you don’t treat me special!!!”

That right there is one of the biggest problems with bringing raids here.

They say “we just want hard content” “we just enjoy playing a good challenge”
But the instant they play their harder content and find out it’s not also more rewarding than the stuff being played by the casual scum it becomes "it’s harder it should reward better “why would anyone play it if it doesn’t offer better gear?”
“I need unique skins and better stats so all those peasants know I’m better than they are”

If they were really into it for the challenge it wouldn’t matter what the reward was.
But it’s never about the challenge.

Well for starters, I’m praying GW2 “raids” is more akin to GW1 Elite Missions. The Elite Missions in GW1 was very well received with it’s rare loots and everything, I don’t see how that cannot be replicated in GW2.

I know when the word “raid” drops, everyone goes directly to WoW-mode, but for once, don’t do that. Think of Anet’s concept of that as something completely different, built around 8-12 people (akin to GW1).

Also challenging content always gives better content. Look at SAB -> it provided epic 8-bit skins for those who were good enough to finish the ridiculously difficult Tribulation Mode, or to those who were VERY patient and dedicated to complete it. And yes, we all know that Tribulation mode took hours to complete!! And don’t tell me people don’t do it, the SAB entrance was almost always flooded with people.

Consider this: If you work overtime IRL, do you not get paid extra? I sure as kitten do, I won’t be staying in the office longer than I need to, unless of course they provide an incentive, which in this case is overtime pay (which is often a higher percentage than your base pay).

The concept is really simple: work hard / play well → get rewarded.

Also before you say anything NOTHING is mandatory in GW2 and there are PLENTY of people who are here to HELP/ASSIST you, you only just need to get out of your “raids gg” mentality and ask people

ArenaNet Overthinking it with these Names

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Avster.1935

Avster.1935

Ugh.
The names have 0 impact on how the classes perform.

And I’m sure people would be raging if ArenaNet put simple and common names on the new elite specs.

Like,“Monk” or “Assassin” – People would be like “OMG CTRL +C CTRL +V REALLY ANET?????” “LOL SO ORIGINAL”

Stop hating on Dragonhunter and Daredevil,at least they are original. Or kind of original,it is pretty much impossible to be original in the Internet these days. Everything has already been created or used in other things. At least Arenanet picks the less common names instead of boring “Crusader” (people would say ArenaNet got it from Diablo 3: RoS) or “Wizard” or something like that.

Names impact the perception of the profession.

Look at the name Druid & Tempests, no one is complaining about them (“OMG COPY PASTE”), and yes they have been used in other games as well.

Sorry I have to correct you, the MOST prestigious item in game is the “Endless Fractal Tonic”. Why? It comes only from high level fractal. It’s non trade-able, and has a ridiculously small drop that is even lower than precursor.

When I see someone with that tonic, I don’t think to myself “wow, that guy must be really good at this game to have that. Maybe one day I’ll be as good as he is.”

I think “Wow, that guy’s really lucky. Maybe one day the RNGods will give me something good.”

End-game loot without any token system, will always be referred to as “Oh that guys is so lucky” – unfortunately this is universal for every MMOs prestige items. But my point still stands, it is in fact the rarest non-trade able item in-game. A very small handful of people have them.

OTOH for future “prestigious” items, I hope “Challenging Group Content” is like SAB Tribulation Mode though, where you have to work REALLY hard to get the item (i.e. their 3 token system). That shows that “Wow that guy must be really good at jumping or is very dedicated and spent hours after hours to finally finish the ridiculously unforgiving jumping puzzle to get that super shiny weapon!”

Woah, let’s take a step back people. It’s not really about the “Prestige”.

The most important factor is: “I was there when it happened, and this is what I have to show for it”.

People always seem to forget that at first, ArenaNet philosophy in making Guild Wars 2 was to create a “Living, Breathing World” – where you HAVE to be there to experience the world, and that logging in today would be different then logging in tomorrow or the next week, etc. The by product of their goal resulted Living Story 1 (LS1). Which was basically trying to replicate a real world dynamic feeling. You can’t get back yesterday, ever. It gave you additional incentive to log-in and play because if you were not there, you don’t get to see it, the world moves on.

The entire LS1 was ArenaNet’s experiment and I absolutely loved it (granted I missed a few weeks worth of gameplay because I went on a vacation! #firstworldproblems)

Anyhow – I think it should remain as it is, as a memoir to the effort ArenaNet took to make the game truly dynamic. I’m sorry that you weren’t there to experience it, but that’s what made the game SO much more “exciting” back then.

This right here.

Even if SAB comes back, the people with those skins put in some incredible effort and showed some true skill that other players will have to imitate if they want the item as well.

-That’s- what should be considered prestige.

Not shooting fireworks a year ago. Who cares about that.

Agreed, I’m a proud owner of both green & yellow lightsabers.

Also forgive me, I’m going to go a bit off topic here, but where are all the “CHALLENGING GROUP CONTENT SHOULDN’T GET EXCLUSIVE REWARD” posts about SAB? Kittening Hypocrites.

Everything in LS2 is solo-able, if you can’t do it, join a guild and ask for assistance. Also improve your attitude while you’re at it. Instead of posting a complaint on forums, you could have easily asked on map chat, and received the responses you seek from here.

And as for not being 1337 enough for HoT, if you keep this up, then yes, I guess you’re not.

Am I using the fractal portals wrong?

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Avster.1935

Avster.1935

Technically, you can start doing Fractals at level 2, but you probably shouldn’t.

A good rule of thumb is to have gear equal to your level and of at least rare quality before you hop into the fractal portal. This includes trinkets and weapons (although these you can get away with masterwork quality if you know your class well)

Once you are familiar with all the dungeon paths and mechanics in fractals you can probably get away with saying something like “this is my second account” to avoid the assumption that people think you are a complete noob.

Yes but, do you really want to drag the whole party down because you technically can? Sublevel 80, you’re basically getting carried if the rest of your party is 80 in full ascended / exo, regardless of dungeon or fractals. Also don’t forget about Agony, you won’t be able to do any fractals >10 without agony resistance.

Avster.1935

Hey Capgaius,

Most of your question has been answered but I’ll try to touch on some of the finer implicit points.

First of all, Fractals is level 80 content. That’s why people kicked you. Not like they are mean, it’s just not meant for those who are under 80. And if you do get accepted, you are basically being carried by all 4 of them.

Progression through Fractals starts from Scale 1 to 50. There are 4 reward tiers (scale 1-10, 11-20, 21-30, 31-40, 41-50). Yes I know it doesn’t match with the LFG option in game, but that’s how it is.

Fractals also has a damage mechanic called “Agony” that kicks in from Scale 10 and onwards…you need to get Agony Resistance to mitigate the Agony damage. The acquisition, usage, requirement etc. can be read in more detail here:
https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Agony
https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Agony_Resistance

General helpful link:

Lastly, good luck out there! Keep up the positive attitude!

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Avster.1935

Avster.1935

Miku kinda said everything, just to sum it up with my point of view.

If you want to have fast runs, mesmer was always better than a guard, but the mesmer himself has to skip quite some loot.
For your daily dungeon runs, the loot and rewards are the things why you do them, so why should you skip them?
So here comes the guardian. He can replace the mesmer quite well, with higher self-dps and better support to get smooth runs. And now with the quickness shout, the difference isnt that huge anymore. Ofcourse, one or two portals will save up more time, but you will miss out the aegies carrier.

As a result, you can run mesmer in dungeons, but unless you preskip stuff and use portals, guardian is better, when you want to be fast.

Bolded for emphasis. That’s basically the TL;DR

My guild is quite active and even though a lot of them (majority it seems) won’t be getting the expansion right off the bat …as a guild leader excited for guild halls – this is extremely saddening as I was really looking forward to playing the expansion with everyone but now, it won’t be happening…there will be some people who get it but not all.

I hope that the pricing is actually justifiable for the content they provide, so I can give some constructive feedback to the second-wave of HoT purchasers so that they can join in on the fun. But for now, …paying for expansion that is not even remotely close to the size of the base game …is a bit painful for most people.

The most benefit comes to brand spanking new players who just heard about the expansion. They get the base+expansion, wherease the older players get…shafted

The HoT purchase is separate from Living World Season 2.

ANet, why isn't the price same for everyone?

Because exchange rate? Prices across countries will never be the same, it always depends on the exchange rate. For whatever product you buy.

What to do before HoT?

1. If you have still some goals you haven’t accomplished in GW2 you can work towards that
2. If you like farming, you can sell your soul and join the SilverWaste farm train and rack up some gold before HoT is out. Some people enjoy that, I find it a waste of valuable time.
3. Do dailies, log off and enjoy the beautiful summer? Really though, summer time is best time to be outside! Grab a few friends and go enjoy the sun!
4. Try other games!

Raids?

The guy I’m responding to up there is making a straight conflation, and the point is directed at that guy.

You’ve got to quote stuff, man! You mean this guy?

I’m going to repeat the same thing that the dude from the HoT PAX announcement. I want “PvE that doesn’t suck” – in other words, please make me use my brain more.

For those who are more laid back and just want to do things. You can have your open world PvE. I’m happy for you.

For those of us who are more intricate and like complexities, please gives us our challenges

I mean, he never said “raid” in his post, so I hardly feel like he’s saying raid == challenging without alternatives. He just wants PvE that doesn’t suck – as do many of us.

So yes it’s possible that his post is just wildly off topic.

Nope. Raids could be one alternative, if you can think of something better, I welcome it with open arms.

All I want is something challenging to do with my guild. It can remain 5-man parties, sure, but allow me to form a “group” of 5-man parties, and do instanced missions with my guild. Seriously, the lack of guild stuff in this game apart from WvW and the “oh so easy” guild missions is appalling.

Where is promised challenging HOT content?

All I want is a small raid party (8-15) and “Elite Missions” that we had in GW1.

Anet, please.

Enough with the Gemstore Skins/Outfits

If you look at the News page (left hand tab, top left of this page), they’ve just put up a behind the scenes look at Ms. Cox’s role at ANet. This line seems relevant to the discussion in this thread:

“For example, armor sets are now exclusively designed as in-game rewards while outfits are primarily Gem Store offerings.”

And look at all the new in-game armors we got! rolls eye

Also some of the GW1 prestige weapons being released as…gem store item, hit right at the heart. Basically what our ancestors worked so hard to get 250 years back, we can get by opening our wallet. If that doesn’t sound bad, then I don’t know what does…

The Chaos & Tormented weapon should have really been “Elite Mission” / “Challenging Group Content” loot.

A solution to multi-guild, cohesion problem

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Avster.1935

Basically, Alliances.

Most of the top tier WvW guilds are…exclusively, WvW based. So WvW Alliances will mostly be comprised of WvW guilds only – for better teamwork and communication.

However, this’ll work for PvE & sPvP groups + not-so-dedicated WvW guilds.

Modesty in Armors (Optional Side-grade)

OP, I appreciate the fact that you emphasized on “optional” and “not forcing”. Otherwise I would have slammed you with a wall of text or better yet link you to other topics that have been beaten to death regarding skimpy vs. non skimpy lol

Now on point. It is a good idea, I agree. Everyone has their own preference, which is completely fine. The only problem is that…the time & resources spent doing that could be better use in providing other future content. Look at HoT production right now, they are all so focused on that – leaving us high and dry on any content for months! If, and ONLY if, they have spare resources to focuses on such optional features, then yes they should do it. But I rather have them spend time on more content.

On a side note: We need more underboob tops! Assassins T3 is like the only one

Too bad it’s a trenchcoat I want to see some sexy male butts darn it.

Yea it looks a bit like TERA armor but next time we need pants! Like this

Careful with TERA. People will want skimpy female armors from that game if we are going that route :P

The better (imo) route is AION, their armor designs are next level gorgeous.
