If you park a Ferrari in a mall parking lot, and swing the doors open. People will want to look at it, sit on the supple leather, turn the key…maybe soak in the roar. Putting the raid in VB and not instanced causes this distraction.
This affects the rest of the new pve content.
You’re right raids aren’t for everyone, but putting in within everyone’s reach/sight line makes everyone think it is.
Put it at the top of the kittening canopy.
Lmao that’s actually pretty funny. I’d dig it. Although like you said before, having it instanced is much easier, and allows people to do VB T4 attempts properly.
Then I go to another raid and its like a circus, people dieing left and right, people going AFK for long periods of time wasting everyone’s food
Holy kitten, that sounds like a horrible circus. Nevermind people dying in front of me while I’m trying to watch the kitten clown, but they’re wasting MY food, MY popcorns? Hell no!!
Oh hell naw, they be wasting my G.H.Cretors Chicago Mix Popcorns?!?! UNACCEPTABLE! >:P
Sigil of Force & Water.
Raids will destroy GW2, because raid people now only want a certain (very select few) of classes in the raid.
That’s not true at all.
What’s not true? The fact that people now just go in raids picking few classes/builds just because pseudo-meta? Even if there’re better alternatives?
That will remain the case until people become more skilled. You have to remember you are only as strong as the weakest link, and with bosses with such tight dps checks, these pseudo-meta are there for a reason. Don’t blame the players.
My TL;DR about raids is that…GW2 has a lot of non-skilled players. It’s quite scary. Especially since for raids you are only as strong as your weakest link.
1 double dead = full party wipe.
Being flexible in what classes you can play also goes a long way into being in a core raid group. Assuming it’s properly geared.
On the other side of the fence, if you can get a group of 10 skilled players together, raids = super fun :P
IMO it depends on your group composition and player skill. Start with Clerics and slowly transition into Zealots. The better they are at keeping themselves alive and taking less damage, the less of a FULL healer role you have to take. With Zealots you can also be a good dps contributor to the party.
Did you not get the memo? ArenaNet said that HoT would have challenging open world PvE, since the Central Tyria open world PvE was far too easy for most of us.
As for the difficulty of it getting HP, yes they can be challenging to find, but that’s part of the HoT experience, go wild and explore.
This is horrible.
Have those individuals items on BLTC and THEN you can bundle them if you must -_-
I cleared VG with a pug group last night too. We used VOIP, and everyone was fairly skilled. Took us about an hour to finally kill him. We were at 5-10% several times.
I’m just going to quote him for truth:
Whats challenging is finding 10 players that can play really well.
Oh and if it helps I was in full exotic cleric’s armor with ascended wep & trinkets.
Druid. I can get my Celestial Avatar form off for each green circle in VG. It needs to be used perfectly though. You need to get out of CA form right after the lightning hits so it can be off CD when the next circle pops up.
I like them :P maybe not so much the champion versions lol – but the regular ones require you to CC, re-position and do quick bursts.
Champion is basically the same, except you need to rely on others doing CC as well!
Disagree. Casuals can be skillful players as well. They just don’t play as much as hardcore players. That doesn’t mean they shouldn’t be allowed an honest shot at difficult content.
This is exactly where I stand tbh
This isnt fair… dont take all the glory and make us necros look better than we are. We are still as useful as a empty toilet roll in a festival portable toilet.
Please at least say joint worsed professions.
You are :P Except Reaper is really fun to play.
Currently it’s on “trololol” mode, and yes it’s annoying. I’ve seen almost everyone pop their little mentor tag during Teq, when most of them don’t even know what to do. Absolutely useless.
Give it time, it will lose it’s appeal.
Guys i siad im 40+ in HoT NOT TYRIA
in total im nearly 90+
CoF was old content thats I’ve played on for 2 years, obviously i rushed that
im talking about the new contentNice job man. You are asking for more challenging content and then choose the most easiest way to level up your masteries. Really good job.
Just a quick FYI – old tyrian content is not challenging. He probably just rushed it so he can enjoy HoT. Understandable. We had vanilla GW2 for 3 years, and I for one have almost every single done here, and have repeated world completion & dungeon quite a few times. So I see his point of view.
Also I’d say I’m a pretty casual player who likes challenging content (Level 8 Mastery from HoT only). So I’m happy with HoT and don’t want it nerfed.

Well TBH, Druids would only be useful for Raids with their healing. Open world, Druids are not really useful, everyone can self-sustain, however, what druids can bring, and what I’ve been running for Open World, is CCs.
I’m basically running a Berserker Druid for Open World PvE, because firstly, I get 33% movement speed traited, and I can also slot two Glyphs that does CC, on top of Longbow #4, Axe #4, and Astral Mode #3 – so you can see that we have quick and instance access to 6 really good CC straight off the bat. Great for bosses with breakbar requirements.
Bring back smokescales F2 ..!
We just got our Guild Hall! Here’s an amazing video of it!
The music feels train starts from 18:41 on wards when we run towards to the Crystal Room for the photo opp session
Tonight’s the night, are you ready? There is so much stuff to be done! Get ready to be “spooked” out !
Two more days until HoT & Halloween is out! This is an exciting time for all of us! Come join in on the fun with SOR
Skill #3 is helpful, Signet of Stone is helpful. If you have guardians in your party, the Aegis is helpful. Also you have to be quick on your dodges!
Swap to LB if you have to for a while, no shame. Better that you dps then lay dead on the ground.
I also dps behind the pet, it blocks his aoe purple thing! :P
On my Ranger, I have logged 3,707 hours. I started using sword since launch, even before the meta builds formed. I still use it, it is my MAIN weapon receiving more focus, priority and dedication than any other weapon in the game on any class.
I still disagree with how it works.
It does have one advantage, and I kind of agree with the OP on this. It FEELS powerful, aggressive and when in some situations even satisfying. However, here comes a massive list of bullet points of where it falls short.
PvE (This is my main game. I’ve Rangered through exploration, farms, story, LS2 challenges, Liadri, Fractals, Dungeon Master, Dungeoneer, solo holding SW forts .etc)
snip – all your lovely points!
In conclusion: I’m not a top level PvP player, but I do quite well in PvE. If anything, the sword’s AA functionality has no place in PvE. I can see a few good uses in PvP, but I can also see enemies learning how to turn it against us if builds including it became too popular.
I suffer through it because I love Ranger and I love swords. I still dream of a brighter future for this otherwise wonderful weapon.
2000hr+ Ranger. Agreed to everything here, as I’m in a very similar circumstance. I also, disagree with OP’s point.
These are Ohoni’s opinions:
1. If you have to spend more than 20g on a set of armor it’s grind. In fact this threshold is arbitrary that he would bend to make his point.
2. If you have to play a content that you don’t like to play to obtain a reward, it’s grind but he bends like to [insert whatever arbitrary things here, include option A, B, C, D, etc, up to possibly the entire game except for the reward part].
Hence
3. [Insert whatever he doesn’t like here] = grinding. Hence any activity that mention [these things] will make the game grindy. i.e., he can claim whatever existing in the game as grinding by specific exclusion/inclusion. Trying to have the cake and eat it too.
4. He mistakes elite vs elitist
5. He want easier contents (albeit grindy) to obtain legendary precursor (we’ve proven that there is no alternative option since if you choose the alternative option, it must be easier for you)
6. He mistakes length of time to obtain items to difficulty contents to obtain items
7. Misquoting information to show an incorrect point. This has happened from times to time. (e.g., he has failed to show a quote of a dev saying "exotic will be BiS gear forever but he keeps saying that)There are more but this margin is too narrow to contain it
^ This.
Guys, stop trying to have a conversation with Ohoni, it’s not worth it – very self-centered and all the advice you guys are giving her is going over her head. Razor you have a saint like patience! Anyways, this thread has been derailed enough. Mods please close it.
Full Clerics Armor/Weapon/Trinket. If I feel like I’m overhealing, i’ll switch Armor to Berserkers but still maintain Cleric’s Weapon/Trinkets.
The ideal mix might just be Zealots though, but it’s a pain in the butt to get. Zealot will be a glass cannon healer.
Having the will and drive to become a better player earns you a golden cookie!
Just trio’d Fractal 50 a couple nights ago! Took us 3 hours ! Sadly, our roll was Swamp/Dredge/Cliffside/MaiTrin! The worst offenders all in one. Go figure huh? :P oh and bump!
I feel like you should at least add some some sort of a damage component to the skills in Celestial Form…
10 days till HoT! If you’re in need of some excellent veteran players! We are here for ya!
Ascended gear would be a real pain for those who like multi-classing…
Guild Mission/Favor problem for 1-2 p guilds
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns
Posted by: Avster.1935
1-2 person is not a guild. Sorry It’s a glorified mini party.
These are my favourite 3 classes and I played a lot with all of them. I will give you a PvE/ Raid perspective.
Reaper
- As reaper’s don;t bring much utility, they will struggle for zerker raid spots but we will have to see what other bosses are like in the raid/ more people play them before we get a true meta comp
Revenant
- Big weakness in PvE is limited stun breaks and there are many creatures/ bosses in HoT that cc.
For Revenant, you can trait in Invocation so that swapping legend = stun break.
Also, wouldn’t condi GS/Staff Reaper fare quite well for Raids?
Simple, don’t be that guild leader who is too tight to buy the ex-pack and cause everyone trouble. Be it you do it for attention or cause you don’t have money to waste either one you end up being “That guy”.
Or maybe he’s that guy who has his priorities straight.
And he’s trying to get info to make a decision as to what to do concerning his guild, step down or have a coleader or no change.
True that. If most of your guild members are getting HoT and you as a leader are not. Then it’s probably time for him to step down
Hello! [SOR] is looking for more FRIENDLY raiders & fractal runners to join us!
Ok, soooo… ~looks around with stern countenance~
You guys were just trying to jump the gun a wee bit, eh? Maybe were at the log-in screen and hopped? But now, all is well? You can make a beta character, hmmmmm?
Glad to hear it. I’ll have to make this up somehow to the half a gazillion people I was pinging about this.
I’m glad you’re in now. Have fun!
I can’t make a character Gaile – but it’s because I’m stuck at work. Help
Haha me too buddy!
Rangers won’t be complaining when every raid group wants a Druid.
Healers are a fun and interesting concept, but not for everyone. And right now, Druid healing is the only thing it looks like Ranger will be able to do better than any other class.
Rangers can replace the second Elementalist in a party after the Ice Bow nerf. Just sayin’
So the raids are :
1. Gear gated
2. Mastery gated
3. Skill gatedThank god ANet decided to make them easier to access as you do not need any attunements…
lol
1. Nope, ascended is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED, not REQUIRED
2. Yes, but that’s okay, it just adds more fun mechanic to it.
3. Yes <- this is the biggest factor IMHO, a lot of people will fail here.
…I very much enjoy open world content. I like maps like Dry Top and Silverwastes as well as the small story instances that Living World season 2 had. Now while I didn’t enjoy every aspect of these things (Like a majority of S1, some story instances, and a few other things) I did enjoy them.
I’m not much of a dungeon/raid person. I will do it and if it’s fun I may replay it a few times but once it loses its surprise or challenge I generally drop it unless I want something from there. I like exploring maps and open world events like The Breach (though they could be a bit harder). It gives GW2 a different flavor from other MMO’s. Will future content only focus on raids as their target? Meaning will we get a content update and the majority of it is a raid and we very rarely get something else? I fear this will make GW2 follow the pattern of other MMO’s.
The bolded part applicable to any part of the game. Even the “Open World PvE”, in fact OWPVE loses it’s surprise far more easily than instanced content, because you can just “roll through with the zerg”. Wherease Raids still require a certain level of challenge and will require greater coordination.
What are player thoughts on this? Would you like it if all future content focused mainly on raids, open world/story instances, or both?
Both.
Real Frustrations for the Causal Player
- 100%ing WvW requires transferring to another server at least once
And? Is this a completionist syndrome? You don’t need 100% WvW for map completion anymore. Also if you want to easily get 100% WvW, get to a t1/t2 server.
- Farming Karma requires a server doing a good edge of the Mists map
See above. EoTM wasn’t really meant to be a karma train, unfortunately, it turned into one.
- It takes around 600 gold to make Ascended Armor, but you can only expect to average 5 gold a day from dungeons unless the Meta-Babies groups are actually competent today: highly unlikely.
You are terrible at running dungeons. Sorry.
- Farming Iron produces the most consistent income. 2 gold per hour average.
Okay. If you are thinking about “consistent income” why not just chest farm at Silverwaste?
- There’s really no combat-group experience in the game.
High level fractals says hi.
- There’s really only one solo-combat experience in the game – Run until perfectly stationary creature’s agro zone is violated + kill creature.
…and?
- Nothing is sacred, nothing is iconic. Traveling around Guild Wars 2 is the same experience no matter how far you have traveled as the only game design is ‘kill and move on’.
This point I agree with.
- Ascended Trinkets, Accessories, and etc are only accessible via Laurels unless you’re doing fractals, which is unlikely as Guilds are rarely doing group-anything.
Join a guild that actually does those stuff then? Plenty of guilds advertised on forums that runs fractals, dungeons and guild missions on a frequent basis,
- Guilds have no use as the game is designed almost exclusively to be solo’d.
You mean only the Open World Content? Everything else requires grouping. Also guild grouping will start giving Favours once HoT is launched, so more incentive to guild group is coming.
- The game is all solo oriented, but demands group activity for high end content like making legendaries and ascended gear while doing everything possible to remove access to karma, coin, and reasons to group up or build a community
See above, only Open World PvE is solo. Rest requires grouping.
- Meta isn’t necessary to do dungeons, but meta is the only thing being done in dungeons.
First you complain about “meta-babies” not being competent enough, then you say “Meta isn’t necessarily” while also saying you only get 5g / day. Woah dude. Back to the drawing board you go. You can easily earn more than 5g a day if you run all paths with a meta team.
- Armor should not be able to be linked nor AP seen for 30 minutes within any dungeon nor for the same length whenever a person joins a group of any kind.
Why? So you can run your special snowflake clerics ascended build?
- Anet has done too much to make this game a solo experience and removing all access to end game content least a person change from a casual player to a dedicated 6 hours a day player.
I can “access end game content” and I only play 2-3 hours on weekdays AT BEST.
- It’s 250 gold (on average) to go from 400 to 500 in any given trade skill.
You’re absolutely terrible at crafting.
This game is entirely casual. You’re just even far behind that casual spectrum.
Tbh I kinda expected the Legendary Backpiece to be a cape, but they’ve gone for wings (god knows they are super popular too).
IMO, I dislike the Fractal Legendary back piece, looks way too darn spiky (but I’ll still get it)
I’m also on the “Cape” camp. There can be so many different styles of capes! Ah, one can dream.
Like salad? doh :P
Ventari legend healer, you are the new Longbow Ranger.
Except Longbow Ranger have pretty sweet burst before switching back to Sword/Axe
…Unlike adolescents aged 15 to 25 who mostly do not have children, job or something I have 39 years and do not feel that the game is fair to me rewarding me in 3 or 4 hours I can play every day…
First of all, what? I know people with kids who play that have legendary weapons. Secondly, 3-4 hours is not casual. I play 2-3 hours a day, and I have 2 legenadaries.
Is fair only those who have the spare time can have the best items in the game?
You say you’re 39, and yet you don’t know the how the world works. The more time and effort you are willing the spend, the better and/or faster you can get those rewards. The exception is the players who play “efficiently” and have proper working knowledge of what to do when and why. You clearly don’t know how to utilize your time properly even after playing 3-4 hours if you have to use gems to get ascended gear…
I understand the concept of reward for effort, but think well, if you release the legendary equipments for the elite, let them ascended to the casual.
Ascended armor are only really required for those who do high level fractals, which is for the elite/hardcore (except not really because even casuals can get fully ascended). So I don’t even know why you’re complaining buddy.
TL;DR – OP probably RPs for 3-4 hours and then complains about how it’s so hard to get ascended armor.
(edited by Avster.1935)
Oh man, OP – the party you had is not a representative of the skilled player base of GW2. They sound like those folks go just go to metabattle to get their build, and doesn’t know how to properly play their class or know the mechanics of the fight properly. Yes, even at Fractal 50, some pugs can be horrible (like how did they even get their? I’m betting 100% they got carried) and at times they get so used to “cheesing” the run, that they can’t even HOLD ON THEIR OWN if things go south. Like seriously, if you can’t handle yourself when cheesing doesn’t work. You. Are. A. Bad. Player. It annoys me when subpar players are running F50 and then blame others for their lack of skill if things go south.
You playing a Ranger is not a problem. Ranger (LB & S/A) with Spotter & Frost Spirit is a great combination. I have two 70+ AR characters that I use, Ranger & Elementalist (bringing up my Guardian soon) and like your example of the shaman fight, I had a run where my entire kittening party wiped and I solo’d the last 20% as a Ranger at F50. Lo behold, the entire party was praising me like no tomorrow, while lying dead on the floor. The irony. Also sometimes when they complain about “lack of dps” you can bet your bottom that they are not running proper dps builds or berserker gear.
What I’m trying to say is, a profession is not the problem. The players are. Hence most of the time, I at least run with 1-2 friends, people I can rely on. Good players who knows how to play their class, and not outright die with Archdiviner raises his hand to do his AoE Agony attack…
On a side note: This is a personal preference of mine but, I don’t find value in having two rangers in a party because there is no point in double spiriting / spotter. One ranger is good enough So if I’m ranger and a pug joins as a ranger, I swap to ele, and pray to god that the pug-ranger is as good as experienced as me :P
The discrimination against Rangers are far less now, in fact, Rangers are higher on the damage scale than Thieves. Necromancers however, still reign in last place
Do you people never tire of making such ridiculous posts? Seriously.
OP, do you even know why they are meta? have you even tried understanding the mechanics of the game?
We had 65 different faces login during the last 24 hours ! And getting to know every one of them – I lost count on how long I spent just chatting! haha
We have had a healthy influx of newbies, veterans and returning players join us in SOR! So if you’re looking for like-minded experienced yet relaxed guild to play with, SOR is your home
Our guild chat is bustling with so many different conversations, don’t be shy and feel free to join in
EDIT:
Also if you’re a veteran and/or returning player who is involved in high level fractal runs – SOR is even better for you! We have at least 10+ people with 70 AR who run Scale 50 Fractals!!
(edited by Avster.1935)
Please no trenchcoat, please no trenchcoat
We have “soft” trinity. They are: DPS, Support & Control.
I personally don’t prefer “hard” trinity, sometimes if you purely depend on your healer, you become reckless, less aware of your own skills, etc.
I prefer having the flexibility of determining my own fate
Another bumpero! Are you excited for Raids?! So are we!! Regardless of whether you are a newbie or veteran, SOR is looking for more skilled players to join our ranks!
Now if you reply with the thought of “But..I’m not skilled enough!” or “I’m just a casual!” or “I’m a newbie!” – That’s all good and fine! Who said casual players cannot play well? Who said you cannot become better? Who said that we won’t be here to help you understand the mechanics and help you learn? Exactly, no one did! Regardless of where you stand – SOR is here for you!
Some really stirring stuff in the announcement. Something that caught my eye was, ‘proper damage maximisation and damage mitigation for your profession will be vital…’ does this mean ANet is trying to remove the stacking glass cannon parties?
I remember in GW1 some party leaders would demand you ping your build then try to tell people what skills to take. I always refused and left as I wouldn’t give my build away free for someone to copy. Do you think this might be coming back via raids now? Ie, ping traits and utilities as well as armour and trinkets?
I’m thinking raid parties will be formed within guilds only.
So you would rather hinder your entire party because “play how you want”? :|
Raid requires good team composition and synergy. You can’t be selfish here. It’s a team effort.
You can’t get Fractal skins without playing fractals… some content needs its own exclusive rewards for incentive to play it… Otherwise raids would become like Triple Trouble, where no one does them except large guilds.
Legendary Armor wont have better stats that ascended armor.
Then they should really give WvW its own exclusive reward, it’s long over due. They seem to be the part of the player base that get shafted the most as far as rewards which really is ridiculous considering Anet chose to make 3 different game modes. All modes should provide a way to obtain the goodies. I’ve said it before, if tables were turned and Legendary armor was WvW exclusive the majority of the PvE crowd would absolutely lose their minds. At which point they would feel their complaints are perfectly legitimate because it suits them.
I do agree, you WvW folks need some solid reward that is not obtainable in EoTM
