yeah no.

Well then you’ll continue to not see how much content was provided. It’s similar to saving spare change over the course of a year.

The spare change that you save during a year may not seem like much at the time until considered as part of a whole when the year is up and you see the results.

I did hold off on LS2 until the episode before the most recent one. I then played through it all at once.

It did not feel at all like a traditional expansion to me.

Now, for the record, lack of content is not much of a concern for me. Maybe that contributes to my perception, maybe not.

One season won’t feel like an expansion. Assuming that Anet can maintain a schedule without all of these long breaks, you’d likely have about 5 seasons (assuming 8 episodes every 6 months) during the time it would take to release a traditional expansion on average.

It’s a garbage fight.
Poorly designed. too long, and overall not fun.

And why the hell can’t we skip through the kitten cut scenes?

How is it poorly designed?

The cut-scenes progress the story and shouldn’t really be skipped on your first play-through. Aside from those, what else made the instance too long?

It’s improbable that they did 70 runs. My average is about 30 minutes at the minimum if you swap maps. This puts it at 35 hours to get that many runs.

I did under 12 runs and got both chests.

http://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/2shy6k/any_vinewrath_chest_data_for_the_carapace_coat_box/

base on the reddit post I think someone says they did 36 and another said they did 28 runs. That is like 12 hours ago.

I’m not sure how many runs I did actually. I know it is more than 12, I started counting 7 runs ago. And judging by the organs I did at least 5 more before. So 12 runs of nothing.

It’s probably possible because you can mostly afk and just do the events at the end. So people have time to rest.

Oh I know it’s possible which is why I chose improbable to describe the probability of him having done 70 runs. He would have had to map hop to hit that amount.

I’m pretty sure almost everyone map hop. The only difference is someone manage to get in 25% map and another manage to get in 50 or 70% map.

Well it’s about 5 min for the four bosses, ~3 min for the pact ships, ~15 min for the final event, and roughly 5-10 min to get to the four bosses. That’s about 30 minutes on average. This assuming you immediately get into a map that is almost to the bosses pretty quick. The update has been out for about 56 hours. Again, I’m just saying that it’s improbable.

There’s the 15 minutes for the labyrinth event and like 25 min (?) until the the bosses assuming he didn’t leave.

so why is there this fractal level range when fractal lv10 give you almost same reward as lv49 (there is some bonus chance drop to ascended but its small) this is why people hate this why i go play hard dungeon when super easy other dungeon is quicker and give me better reward?

Higher fractals do have exclusive rewards.

Maybe this is just me, but I’ve noticed since the last update, that the rich mining nodes, in any location, appear to be giving less materials. Maybe one or two complete cycles of the mining animation.

It used to give around three to five cycles of this animation.

For example, in Silverwastes, I mined a ‘Rich Mithril’ node, and it only gave ONE cycle of animation . . . as if it were a normal node.

Is this a bug or something updated recently?

How many ore did you get? There are some rich nodes where I get 3 cycles in a single cycle.

Due to the wild success of the Trait system, it has been expanded to skills as well! Now each skill has a specific goal that you have to accomplish somewhere in the world to unlock. For those who don’t want to go skill hunting, you can unlock the skills from your skill trainer for the low, low cost of a gold and 3 skill points! For every one! Except elites, those are 10 gold and 20 skill points!

I will say that the Seaskn 2 story was much larger than EotN though.

To each their own. But I’m afraid I can not agree with that. All the zones combined are definitely much bigger than just dry top and The Silverwastes. 18 dungeons is a lot better than the amount of dungeons season 2 had (there were none). Season 2 added no skills at all. And so far only 6 armor sets were added.

How many different armor sets were there in GW1 compared to GW2? What was the layout of the majority of GW1 dungeons compared to GW2? What was the layout of GW1 maps compared to GW2 maps. I highly suggest looking at only the walkable areas of the GW1 maps and compared the same to the GW2 maps which have a Z axis. Most of GW1 maps have the appearance of rooms and always when you take out all of the textures and only look at where you can walk.

yeah no. Even the entirety of Season 2 is no expansion worth of content.
This is what one of the gw1 expansions (EoTN) had:
-41 new armor sets, including rare, stand-alone pieces
-100 new profession-specific skills (10 per profession, none of which are elite)
-50 new PvE only skills including 3 elite skills
-10 new heroes
-18 Dungeons
-124 new quests
-The Hall of Monuments
-4 new regions (which were comprised of 24 zones, yes that’s right, 24!)

All season 2 episodes combined don’t come close to that. And that was just the small expansion. The stand alone expansions (Factions and Nightfall were even bigger).

I never said season 2 was an expansion compared to other games like WoW.

Also, GW1 and GW2 are vastly different games. You cannot compare the zones (which are incredibly small compared to GW2, nor the skills and so on. the dungeons were nothing like how GW2 dungeons are. I will say that the Seaskn 2 story was much larger than EotN though.

Did you really say that? xD haha

Well, I admit, when gw2 first came out, I rushed throught the content, I was lev 80 with 100% map completion in no time. Then I made other alts, played with them a bit, but every corner of a world has already been seen, tryed out wvw, got in love with it!

But the thing is, I was always PvP guy, not at all PvE but I, which suprised me, actually enjoyed PvE content in gw. Even tho I rushed it, cuz I had plenty of time, I enjoyed it so much that I just couldnt stop playing it.
The world is amazing!

But that really is a problem, when you rush content and get all done in a matter of few weeks, it seems to you that the world is small.

So i took a break and got back after half a year when season 3 hit its middle episode.

Made another alt, actually joined great guild and played with others. It’s amazing experience to do things slowly with others

Yes. The perceived lack of content from the living story was due to how it’s split up across a plethora of patches over the past two years. Add in some breaks and the fact that season 1 was mostly temporary makes it appear to be even less. Undoubtedly any content will appear small when rushed through as well.

A lot of it has to do with how you approach the content. My initial suggestion to people who complain about a lack of content is to hold off and play an entire season in one go as if it were an expansion. This will remove the distortion caused by how it’s divided up and the various breaks for the all important WvW seasons and the like.

This has been brought up before, but I do believe the actual price might be 2880, therefore a 44% savings off of that number. The strikethrough might make the 2880 look like 2000.

Expansion won’t stop people complaining. Those that essentially live in the game will have completely everything within a month. The majority of the active player base will have completed everything within six months with everyone else within a year. Then there’s another ~1.5 years until the next expansion. When each group of players completes all of the content, they’ll be back to saying the game lacks new content and that the game is dying.

Its all about pattern recognition. One head-out-attack, two fist-bumps, time for flaming a wall while the four rocks appear…. bombing plants, kill shadow, ….. and again. That’s all. Just try to watch out for his attack pattern and get your timing right. Although it’s easier with some classes (ele’s mist form can evade the attacks while flaming a wall without interrupting the process).

There is no flipping pattern, you just imagined it in your head…the so-called pattern is actually completely RNG, so keep dreaming you saw a pattern.

You sure? I vaguely remember a pattern. The one thing that I know for certain is that both claw attacks occur one after another.

Absolutely positive, and I’m even pretty sure you’re wrong about the claw attacks as well, as I’ve seen and been attacked by only ONE. How would I know that, because if it was TWO, I wouldn’t be able to get up and run away after one. I’ll pay closer attention next time I’m not saying it’s an impossible encounter obviously, since many probably most have done it, and I wouldn’t care for them to change it. Just saying if you lack patience and sometimes your keys don’t respond, or mouse click(which I almost exclusively use, other than looting and movement) well, then you can be big trouble. I’ve done the first circle just fine, it’s when the shadows start popping up…I’ll keep trying a few more times, but I don’t really care since I’m not even going for the Lumi armor or achievements…and if I don’t finish the story, no big deal either.

I’ll run it a few more times. I’ve done it about 8 times and always saw the same sequence of attacks.

Why cant we have difficult content?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Ayrilana.1396

Ayrilana.1396

Some people would call the new attack with his right leg as a gimmick. I say this as people have labeled new attacks as gimmicks in this game and others. Do do agree with you about those who call dodging a gimmick but that just shows you how loosely people use that term. A lot of times people use it towards anything they don’t like. If they like it then it’s a good mechanic, if they don’t then it’s too gimmicky.

I personally don’t see an issue with gimmicks or artificial difficulty when done within reason. If enemy stats are increased enough to just make the fight long and boring without adding anything, I would have a problem with it. If mechanics were added to the point that the encounter became convoluted, I’d have a problem with it. Again, this is all subjective as it would be based on what I felt was good or bad.

Why cant we have difficult content?

Ayrilana.1396

I was tempted to make a post/thread asking what people thought difficulty was. I see it going two ways which is increased stats for enemies or increased usage of mechanics. The former would be criticized as artificial difficulty while the latter would be criticized as gimmicky. Sometimes I’ve seen the same people criticizing both leading me to believe they have absolutely no idea what they want.

I very much disagree.

The difference between a gimmick and a mechanic is whether it’s part of the core game play. Glint’s lair, the boss you kill by hitting the things that make you fragile then transfering it to the other things and breaking them… that’s a gimmick. The first boss where you simply have attacks that you try to dodge while you kill him, that’s normal mechanics.

That said, gimmicks aren’t always bad, it’s just you’re taking a stretch on whether people will like it or not. Only an idiot would play a game where they dislike the core mechanics. It’s when they diverge from that base that you are taking a chance. Aetherpath for example, it’s a lot of puzzle stuff, and not much of the strait forward fighting that most of the other dungeons are. It’s diverging from the norm. I’m sure many absolutely LOVE it. Personally I’m not a big fan, just didn’t hit me as something I enjoy. Whether you like it or not though it’s gimmicky because it is so different.

I only take issue with using Aetherpath as an example of difficulty and people saying “see no one likes it” well, it’s not that it’s difficult that people don’t enjoy it, it’s that it’s so different.

To get to your example, if they made a hard mode Arah where Lupi’s attacks came out 50% faster, no one would call that gimmicky, they’s simply call it harder. If they added a new mechanic where crystals spawned and you had to take them and hit Lupi with them, well then we’d be looking at something gimmicky.

To end, I’ll say that some of my favorite encounters in any game were in EQ, 2 raids that were the most gimmicky raids I’ve ever taken part in… but I freakin loved them. Others I know… HATED them. You’re taking a chance when you go away from core mechanics creating the content and instead try and use some more interesting out of the box ideas, some will love it, some will hate it.

I consider both gimmicks and core mechanics as mechanics. I see core mechanics just as you describe which are mechanics that you use throughout the majority of a game. I see what people label as gimmicks to be the mechanics specific to a given encounter. This could be the lava in the dredge fractal, ghostbuster mechanic in AC p2, the various mechanics in the Aetherblade path, or Marionette boos mechanics to name a few. What you gave an example of for increased attack speed for lupi I would label as artificial difficulty as you’re increasing a particular stat.

Many people are quick to call any mechanic as gimmicky. I’ve seen people calling a mechanic that requires you to avoid a specific attack by dodging as gimmicky. This is largely to do with how subjective that term can be.

How exactly can Anet increase the difficulty of an encounter with creating artificial difficulty from increasing enemy stats or by creating encounter specific mechanics? So in essence, how can they increase difficulty by using just core mechanics in a way that they do not come off as gimmicky?

Hi there, I’m that player you haven’t seen :P
I do a headcount, as most players tend to afk anyway till event start.

That’s another way of doing it which is usually done after a stack count.

I suppose one method would be to put a banner somewhere for people to group up in and then have it give a count of those within range similar to the NPC commanders at the borderlands.

The problem is that if they relied on less RNG, people would get the loot much quicker resulting in less people doing the event/bosses. They can’t do what other games do as the loot systems are entirely different. In GW2, loot for each player is separate rather than pooled together as a group. A lot of the loot also doesn’t require as much prep work to get as other games.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Ayrilana.1396

I think the problem with difficult content is that difficulty is subjective.
What even is difficult?
Something that takes a long time to complete?
Something that takes “skill”? Then again what is considered “skill”?
Something that takes teamwork?
Something that makes use of unusual tactics? Then what are those supposed to be?

The thing is, there is no one that can give an answer that will please EVERYONE.

Thats the problem .. and in the end the answer in MMOs is mostly something that
only makes the game more annoying.

- more hitpoints
- more damage
- more one-hit kills
- more CC

Yeah because no one knows what difficult content is supposed to be… not even the players.

Game designers often ask the question:
“Why is “more x” a problem and how can we solve it?"

And the moment they try something new, they get criticized for making it “gimmicky”. Because people want a challenge, but do not want to do the same thing AND do not want to do something different.

I was tempted to make a post/thread asking what people thought difficulty was. I see it going two ways which is increased stats for enemies or increased usage of mechanics. The former would be criticized as artificial difficulty while the latter would be criticized as gimmicky. I sent in a bug report the other day of the same thing except his HP was zero or what appeared to be zero.

Could this be because of the conditions that drain his HP? Conditions caused an invulnerability bug with the Triple Wurm before and didn’t they also cause a problem back at release with the spectral weapon skill challenges in Orr that required a guardian to fix?

Or why did we go through the effort to get the torch when we could’ve just found the hole that the boss came through.

The boss could go through earth.

Maybe Sylvari Firstborn are Ascended and Caithe wants to protect the other Sylvari, and PC’s, from Mordremoth’s influence by using the magic of Glint’s egg to grant Ascension. Then we all can see the Mursaat from the cutscene.

During the cutscene of it entering, you can see the sky unless that is another texture glitch.

GW2nodes worked fine for me after mega servers. You just need to enter the correct IP. I’m not sure how it is now after everything became less profitable when foxfire clusters came out. That’s about when I stopped as there were more profitable, and less boring, ways to farm.

no. you’re supposed to be able to kill the shadows while imbued with light. when i tried, they were still invulnerable.

You lose the buff when you kill one of them. If there are multiples then you need to keep reapplying the buff after each kill.

This is impossible to do solo as of January 14th, 1:45 AM Eastern. Also, when in a party, I did not get the choice to accept credit and had to do the whole thing over. it was pretty fun as a group, but having it be impossible solo just ruins the entire experience.

edit can not even get a group because “your message was suppressed due to excessive messaging!” what are you even doing, anet?

Many people have beaten it solo across all of the classes.

There’s a LFG tool that can be used rather than spamming the chat channel.

I don’t mind as long as they fix it so you can’t use toys when playing it.
