RNG as a concept: Discuss

Well if you played gw1 you would know what Anet did right in the past. The drops there were hard, but fair. This game just has no loot, there is noway in hell you can say that playing for more than 2 years and not a single good drop is good for any game.

How many players stopped playing after they got all of the loot that they wanted? The majority of what you played for in that game was for titles. This game has a ton of loot and even more so than the first. If you increase the drop rates to level that people want, what you consider a good drop down will eventually fade to being considered junk as I’ve already said.

thing is the loot system isnt really working well to encourage play. They give you too much stuff too randomly, and they dont have much high value things you can get via drop (that you will realistically ever see)

the fact that the player could gather that many bags, is a testimony to an over saturation of crap.
then consider, that after gathering all this crap. how much of it was personally usefull to the user? if the user isnt into crafting, something like what 1%?
this is why people say the loot sucks, because its 99% not of use or interest to them. Its just fodder for the TP machine.

How would that be any different for the stuff that people do currently want if the drop rates for them were increased to the level that they desire? Those items would lose value and that loot system wouldn’t encourage players to play as well.

Players can sell the loot that they don’t want. Would you prefer to not get the “junk” drops period? Anet already is improving the loot system by adding a sort of progress to obtaining them through the collection system like they did with luminescent and eventually precursors. People still complained about the little RNG that was there because they wanted it all now rather than later.

I’m almost tempted to suggest that a server be created where players that want zero RNG can go flock to. It would be completely isolated and nothing obtained from that server could be transferred to the existing servers. This includes the characters. How quickly, do you think, it would take before players got everything and would be bored?

Well Anet, how about you discuss this?

https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/I-just-opened-13985-bags/first#post4755387

How do you even try to explain this utter crap what you call drops.

If they increased the drops rates to how people want them, those highly valuable items people want would eventually no different than the blues, greens, and rares that people common toss aside and consider “utter crap” drops. If everyone had easy access to everything, like you would in a single player game, how long before people get bored and stop playing?

Unlike many other games, GW2 also has a loot system where everyone gets loot and the rolls for what they get is done individually. You don’t have it where in some games people form a raid and then have to decide who gets what using a DKP system. Doing all of the content is also infinity easier than in other games and you get so much more opportunities for loot.

These are just a few of the reasons why we have what we have in this game. Would many people still be doing Silverwastes if everything had a near 100% drop rate? Even at a 50%, a large percentage of people would have all of the drops. What reason would they have to continue playing that particular content?

Well I agree, but you play down just how some battles are way too long and really didn’t touch on all the over powered bosses who one shot kill, soon as player gets knocked over they get hiy with 2-3 more hits that kill. Then there are all the stupid jumping puzzles and environmental toxins that kill. Plus didn’t really touch on fact that respawn is often so fast that that you can get 2-3 of the same “monster” before you killed the first. Yes there some amazing well done monsters, smooth game play but if the boss is unkillable and kills player instantly. There some really really dumb long drawn out rubbish like The Mystery Cave. Light a fire to kill a dragon, not once but over and over. Unable to kill the shadows because soon as you start the constant cycle of ludiciously overpowdered attacks start. Sometimes when knocked over you get pushed towards the dragon and killed. The shadows move too fast and take too long to kill. This is just one of many let downs. 100s of accolades, yeah because they play the first 10 minutes of the game which is great, well thought out and presentation is marvellous. But how many of those patting arenanet on the back played s2 bosses? Or the events where some bosses one shot kill players.

Your issue though, the content difficulty is fair.
Complaining about content being too hard is just silly. If you don’t have the skill or knowledge to do it yourself, ask some friends to help you! This is an Online game anyway.

Also, to my honest opinion, none of those contents are really that hard to begin with. They’re all reasonable for most cases. They’ll be introducing MUCH harder contents in the future expansion (developers said so), because many players agree that the current contents are just too easy.

in the game development world we discuss often the difficulty between CHALLENGE and PUNISHMENT, what makes difficulty fun? when does it stop being fun? the difference is how quickly we can jump back into things after we fail, for example super meat boy is fun because you try again less than 1 second after you die so even a painfully unfair death to a glitch is totally ok with the player because its not punishing (just immediatley try again) but a glitchy death in darks souls will have u throwing your controller through a tv because that stuff can take hours to get back to a point, hell even a fair death is a burden in that game. in living world season 2 we are burdened and punished by bosses that are not just difficult, but borderline unfair NOT because we cant kill them but because they take TOO LONG to kill and we arnt rewarded much for doing things right, i could get up and grab a drink when its ragdolling me with its CC and not much would change, also those unskippable cutscenes, i considered adding them to my numbered list if i didnt underdstand the engine problems behind skipping cutscenes, problem is those pieces are actually moving in the instance your in and the game doesn’t know what to do with them if you actually skip halfway through, resulting in hilarious glitches

The issue with starting over right before you messed up removes the sense of failure and reduces earning the achievement to nothing but brute-forcing it in hopes that you eventually just get lucky rather than learn the mechanics. This was why I’m against there being the ability to restart immediately upon messing up. However, I’m not against what they did with the motes for episode 5 and 8.

The listing fee keeps people from constantly removing items and relisting every time they’re undercut. It would be a nightmare if there was no penalty for taking down a sell offer.

I’m not saying there shouldn’t be a fee, I’m saying that the fee should have a reasonable cap.

10g or so is a reasonable cap for the out of pocket up front fee.

Not really when it comes to high priced items.

I’m only talking about the up front cost, the total gold taxed would still be the same, basically the up front cost would be capped and the rest of what the listing price WOULD have been over the cap is taken from the sale instead.

You’d have fewer people selling over chat and LFG if that were the case.

You’re not really understanding the purpose of the listing fee. It’s not some arbitrary thing that they just threw in for kicks.

Gw1 had a trade channel, its main city was filled with trade chat, it had p2p trading where you actually saw everything before accepting and people still got scammed.

The tp has made trading extremely convenient as you can buy, sell, search instantly and all with no fear on being scammed. There is a tax and fee on selling, but it is necessary to keep prices down otherwise people would just be able to charge whatever they wanted with no penalty and the market would have no stability.
Personally I love the tp because in gw1 there were times I would have to waste sometimes an hour or more just to find a kitten weapon upgrade tome or w/e. Now its all instantly available, or you can use buy orders. Whats not to like?

Except what people are not realizing about GW1, and other games, is how the loot system works in GW2 including how easy it is to get gold compared to those games. Trading does not remove gold from the game and inflation will actually become an issue.

[Suggestion] Include Season 2 Access with HoT

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Ayrilana.1396

Ayrilana.1396

As the title suggests, include access to the entirety of Season 2. This will provide new players, as well as those that have come back, the opportunity to play through the prelude leading up to the expansion. This will help fill in some of the gaps between the completion of the personal story and where the expansion begins.

Gem refunds could then be given to all players who with the expansion linked it to their account who had purchased any Season 2 episodes after the PAX announcement of the HoT expansion. They can submit a help ticket through support, once they’ve linked the expansion, and receive a refund of gems that way.

Those that got access while the episodes went live, or purchased before the PAX announcement, have already had the opportunity to experience the content. Discounts are not necessary for these players.

EDIT: Either a written or cinematic summary would be great to be included to give a recap of the events than occurred during Season 1.

I agree, I’ts stupid that we have to pay 200 Gems to play each chapter. Some people don’t live by their computer and wouldn’t have the time to sign in. If it was free for that day of signing in then it should be free forever.

Each episode was free if you logged on to the game once, for a few seconds, within a 2 week period and some were free for a month, iirc, so it wasn’t just one day that it was free.

However many days it was free for then’ It should have just been free forever. I love Gw2 I have owned the game from day 1. I play a few months at a time and I come back on a few days ago just in time for the last chapter.. Woo I have no idea whats going on i can’t go back and play the last few chapters to even know whats going on unless i pay. Just seems like another way to make a fast buck from us who missed it.. I my self didn’t know we had to log in for it to be free I just assumed it would be there for me to play the next time i logged in..

And in Season 1 you would have had zero chance of going back.

Spending 153 laurels will net you 459 tier 6 fine mats. The percentage of getting either is the same so it would be close to an even distribution (more or less).

Oh. I also suggest going for the 77 clovers first before buying any of the t6 materials.

EotM is probably the quickest way to get there with the exception of consumables and crafting. By the time you get 80, you should have enough karma to buy a full set of exotic armor.

Selling items using the LFG Tool is a very bad idea. The tool was not intended for that purpose, and those who use it are not protected from scams, rip-offs, and general heartbreak.

Sure, if someone rips you off and CS can verify it, they’ll take action against the scammer. But they cannot return the item.

I know I sound all rah-rah when I say “Use the TP” but I’m a player too, and I pay the fees, and darn it, it’s a small price to pay — literally — to avoid the ripoffs that happen when someone decides to take a risk to avoid the fees.

Today is one example of the badness of using the LFG Tool: I got a very heartfelt PM this afternoon from someone who had The Flameseeker Prophecies — yes, a bloomin’ Flameseeker! — stolen from him by a scammer using the LFG Tool to identify potential victims. He knows now and will never forget: You should never, ever, ever use the LFG tool for trades.

Whether it’s the two-copper piece of junk or the legendary of your dreams, please sell it through the safe, secure, and intended methods offered within the game.

Here’s the one problem though Gaile, the listing fees.

Some people can’t afford to list an expensive item they get, it can cost 50 gold or more to list an item you might have gotten as a drop There should be a cap on listing fees and the rest would just be taken out of sale profits.

What you’re suggesting would create havoc on the TP. How would a cap be determined? By how much gold a player possesses? Many players have guild banks and can just hide their gold there. They will then be free to place sell orders at whatever price that they desire as well as re-list without penalty. And this is just the beginning.

Why not try out one of the other dailies instead of doing the events? I went to EotM, for example, and spent 25 badges. Alternatively, I could’ve hopped onto a borderland and killed a single yak with ease.

Why exactly are you unable to use TS?

I’m not OP, but it took me 2 months of nagging my ISP for them to actually deliver close to their advertised bandwidth the last time I went toe-to-toe with them. That was the 3rd time I’d had to do it, too. I still lag out and dc, usually at critical moments that will determine if I get a reward.

Connection stability is far from a guarantee, particularly now that ANet seems to be having connection issues of its own, and I seriously don’t need anything else clogging my interwebz. That said, I’ll risk TS for this situation and this one alone, but I’ve only done it successfully once.

I’ve also been able to use it on my phone. Of course this requires a smart phone so you can download the app. I’ve sometimes resorted to this if my internet crashed and I needed to get word out as to what happened.

Anet just need to let few GMs monitor LFG at random time each day and use warning or few day ban on that are selling on LFG tool, soon no1 would sell on it and GMs can focus on other problems.

Even in Gaile’s response, she never states that you can’t use LFG for selling. Anet only states that they will not replace your item or good if you are scammed. They will take disciplinary action if there is proof that someone scammed, but the item and gold are still not replaced. Selling via lfg is allowed, whether we like it or not, and Anet holds a “look the other way” mentality with it.

Silence isn’t necessarily a “yes” or a “no”.

When asked about mods, they said its against the rules. When asked about botting, they said its against the rules. When asked about scamming, they said its against the rules. When asked about gold buying, they said its against the rules. When asked about trading on LFG, they said its a bad idea.

I would say, silence means it’s not against the rules. If it was against the rules, then what do they gain by refusing to say so?

There are some gray areas in regards to what may or may not be acceptable. The examples you gave are fairly clear cut and mentioned in the ToS. Think of it as how they’ve approached usage of 3rd party mods.

What does your post have to do with his or did you accidentally quote him by mistake?

well he implies that people will want more than one of the same type of legendary, I merely point out that people that do feel the need for that, instead of transmuting, will be in the minority, meaning that while his post encourages the stability of the precursor market, I point out that the amount of consumers will still fall considerably, meaning that it won’t be as stable.

He was talking about weapon type as in greatsword, dagger, sword etc. If it’s only one precursor per weapon type, a player would have to make a choice between dusk, dawn, and whatever the new greatsword precursors are.

It seems as if we will be able to get all of them via a collection.

There will be a unique collection for each of the precursors, including the existing precursors used for the legendary weapons currently in game. “You will be able to build every precursor, unlock all of them in your wardrobe and eventually unlock all of your legendaries,” Colin said, “if you are so inclined.”

Yeah it looks like that will be the case.

But remember you can only get one precursor of each weapon type per account via collections. If you want another Greatsword, back to RNG drops and the MF.

majority use legendaries for their looks, not their stats, meaning that your average player will either juggle one weapon trough alts or will transmute the skin onto something not as legendary.

A very small percentage of people actually feel the need to have legendaries so that they could switch stats on the go and I don’t know how often these people actually alt.

I dislike paying for season 2

in Living World

Posted by: Ayrilana.1396

Ayrilana.1396

When the game was originally sold, it was promoted as a ‘pay once for the game’ and no paying for any other game content, unless you wanted extras (skins, toys). This is game content. its the continuation of the game, that is why OP is upset, and I agree. As for those saying ‘you only had to log in once in the 2 week period’ yeah, I’m guessing you’re young or you have no idea what its like to be hospitalized for a month or more. Sometimes people simply can’t, it isn’t always that simple. I log in almost every day and I still am missing the 1st 2 parts of season 2. The point is, I (we) bought a game that is supposed to be a ‘buy the game once and never pay again’ but it isn’t.

So I guess you’re pretty upset about the expansion?

Would you be upset if season 2 was temporary like season 1?

An expansion is not the same as original in game content. An expansion is like a 2nd book in a series, you know you have to pay for that. But in game content that is part of the original game? What if you bought a book and “you only have 2 weeks to read it or you have to pay extra for the final chapter?” Same idea. You bought something that is supposed to include everything, but oops! No sorry, you now have to go pay for this particular part because God forbid, you had something happen in your life, where you had to put it aside for a bit.

Gamer’s expect to pay for expansions. We know this from playing other MMORPG’s. All games are different but there isn’t any that have a ‘limited time’ on game content. You buy the game & if anything is added (updates etc) its already been paid for. If the personal story is main part of the game, the entire content for it should be available from that particular episode’s release, onward. You may not mind paying for the extra episodes, but many people do. People crapping on others, because they express their unhappiness with something about the game, seems to be the de rigueur on this forum. “oh well, you had 2 weeks” “well if you didn’t sign up for the newsletter, its your own fault for missing out” is missing the OPs (and my) point.

After you buy a book, are new pages added? You may not have been playing the game at the beginning but all of season 1 was essentially temporary content. If you were not on then you missed it. Season 2 can be considered the same except you now have the option to purchase the episodes at a very cheap cost if you were unable to make it when they were first available. You can also consider the living story episodes as DLC’s which many console games do.

You buy the game for all of the content that is already contained within the original game. You do not get anything extra for free. Servers are not free. Developing content is not free. Maintaining the game is not free. I know this term gets thrown around but it’s entitlement to think that you get this for free.

Would the OP have made this thread had there not been an option to purchase season 2 episodes? Probably not. It appears that they played season 1 and knew that it was temporary. They likely assumed that season 2 would be the same as it wasn’t announced until after season 1, or right around then, that season 2 would be more permanent.

What I see their issue is that they’re upset that those that were on when the episodes were first available get to play them for free whereas they didn’t. They completely forget that if there was no option to purchase missed episodes, they would have lost out on that experiencing content anyway. Their position has not changed if they choose not to purchase an episode.

The New Dailies -- Feedback welcome

I don’t really like the way they’ve changed the dailies, but my myself could handle it. All my characters are 80 and can get to where I have to go. But for my friends who have just started playing, putting a daily like “Orr Vista Viewer” or a certain specific map for “Events” is absolutely worthless to them! I wanted a change but I still wanted to be able to do my normal exploring while getting said dailies on the way. This makes it not even fun for my friends as I have to leave them to finish my daily…or bring them with and hope they don’t die. I also HATE that the dailies are SUPER few now in PVE and more focused now on PVP and WVW. In which I can’t stand either. All I can say is I hope HoT fixes this, or I’m just going to ignore dailies. It’s just not worth it. With this new daily system newer players are completely left in the dust.

The daily is based on the highest level character on their account. New players will not get anything for high level maps until they themselves are high level on a character.

Blackgate issues

blackgate goes Very High pop often early morning PST like 3-4am. It’s a very popular server for WvW.

It was also very popular for PvE back before the mega servers for the Living Story. Many people transferred there because of how successful the server was at completing events such as Teq, Marionette, LA, etc. With mega servers these players no longer have an incentive to transfer off as they may or may not play WvW.

It has like a 30 min cool-down.

I havent even seen it spawn once…ive tried 5 or 6 different map instances in the last two days, and it hasnt spawned, ive stayed in those maps for an hour at the minimum.

Update..
The follow up event spawned for the third time in the current map im in, but not the firefly one.

Update 2.
Fourth time without the firefly event spawning.

So you did not get the event where you have to gather items and turn them in?

Blade shards

I’m not sure what the drop rate is off aetherblades but you may be better off farming gold to buy sprockets so you can convert them. It’s one of those items that will be a serious grind as you don’t have easy access to the shards compared to early 2014.

Perhaps it may be worth suggestibg that these be made tradeable. At least then you could buy them directly from the TP or get from players.
