About time these over-inflated prices became realistic. As has been mentioned, I reckon most of those precursors wont even sell now, because people will save stuff for the new ones. I’m really glad this is the case, should also be great fun doing quests and tasks to make a precursor when HoT drops.
The prices were realistic. Also, the cost for making a legendary has hardly budged from what they were about a week ago.
Oh yes, those prices are really plummeting. Now it’ll only take you $400 worth of gem-gold conversion to get one instead of $500!
People are still being greedy and hoping to sell them. They will cost next to nothing in the coming weeks, anyone would be stupid to buy a precursor/legendary right now.
Please enlighten me on how they will be “next to nothing” in the coming weeks. A lot of hated for those that are just trying to make themselves some gold as well. All those who get lucky by getting a precursor as a drop or the MF must be greedy for trying to sell them.

Some people may not want to get the expansion right away, so will that conflict with future living story content? Basically will the expansion be required for future living story participation and awards?
We likely will not have any LS updates between now and the expansion due to how things were left off. Look forward to another season of WvW and possibly SAB.
Well the game is now on sale.
The best thing about the old system was how flexible it was. You didn’t have to go out of your way to do something very specific, or worse, tied to a certain time of day. You could play along as you normally would and do events, gathering, rezzing, dodging … in any zone you want! It was great! I like the new log-in rewards, but I wished they’d keep the AP system as it is – even if it means I would get less AP than I do now!
Again, if you want to entice people to try out different game content, you have to add more rewards instead of removing the players’ options and/or forcing them!
This sums it up. Add to that the fact that the old dailies were friendlier for alts and new players. I mean, how do you expect someone who just started the game to go to higher level areas?
There are still rooms for improvement, they could make the new dailies fun like the old. But as of now: Old Dailies > New Dailies.
Dailies are based on the highest level character on the account. New players will have different dailies.
Why should the daily reward for completing the three avhievements be rewarded to players who passively go for them by playing in whatever manner they prefer?
Because that’s how it was before?
Because we kept saying that more choices should be given to people that play WvW or PvP exclusively so they didn’t have to also do PvE if they didn’t want to?
Because after all of that has been said over and over in the community that Anet decided to give fewer choices per mode that were easily attainable to make people play more modes that they don’t want to and its frustrating?
Only PvE lost options while the others gained two. I suggested a solution that would allow players to play however they wanted. Players are no longer forced into an all or nothing scenario regarding AP which may be one of the root issues. Players can play how they normally would and then complete any achievements that they didn’t already do at the end of their play session. Completing just two achievements would award 6 AP which should be fairly close to the average people earned in the old system. On any give day, at least two achievements are relatively quick to complete (e.g. Crafting, forging, scavenging, vista).
This change would also amount into the least amount of work, in my opinion, for Anet as all they’re doing is modifying a single achievement by adding 3 tiers and then distributing the 10 AP amongst them.
Going to use this thread as it’s the most recent on the precursor price subject other than the RNG thread.
Currently you get 55 laurels every 28 days which translates to a little over 715 laurels a year. You can exchange 1 laurel for a bag that contains 3 Tuer 6 Fine material. This equates to 2,145 tier 6 fine mats over the year or about 8.5 stacks. Each material has an equal chance of dropping from a bag.
What this does is negate players from having to buy these materials from the TP which is one of the most significant costs towards a legendary. I think they total around 1,000 gold of the cost. This frees players to use the gold that they would have spent towards the rest such as precursors.
This makes getting any legendary an achieveable goal within a year.
My opinion
1)Vision Crystal and 1-2 refined ascended crafting materials
Good if you get damask, but more likely to get elonian leather or deldrimor steel
2) 8 Obsidian Shards and 7 Mystic Clovers
Good only if making a Legendary and need clovers, but may be more cost effective to Mystic Forge to get clovers rather than only 7 for a 28 day investment.
3) 20 laurels
Used for crafting, trinkets, infusions, buying T6 mats
4) 6 Tomes of Knowledge
Good for leveling alts, as skill points for buying skill/trairs/promoting items in the mystic forge. Most people are going to go for laurels as that will be the most useful or profitable choice.
You’re correct in your assumption. It is more cost effective to get the laurels as you get 165 tier 6 fine materials which you could use towards legendary progression or sell to fund forging for clovers.
Why should the daily reward for completing the three avhievements be rewarded to players who passively go for them by playing in whatever manner they prefer? How’s it any different than just awarding the players by playing the game in whatever manner they prefer when they play at least 30 minutes or some other arbitrary amount of time?
How about they take the achievement that tracks your progress and create 3 tiers that each reward AP. Each tier requires you to complete any daily achievement. Tiers 1 and 2 reward 3 AP while tier 3 rewards 4 AP. Players can get partial rewards of AP without having to complete all three achievements.

New account char’s names I want
JP chest char
laurel merchant char
TP char
Guild bank char
Regular bank charBut unfortunately, I bet they are already taken.
Or they will be when I next log on
(J/k)
Just complete it if you need it. People progressing their LS is more important than the loss of a few champ bags. Nothing will happen to those completing the event and anyone who harasses players on the chat channel(s) should be reported.
Did you do enough damage to the head?
Hm, I might get a 3rd account for more login rewards, lol.
Yeah. Getting 165 tier 6 fine mats every 28 days for doing nothing is hard to pass up.
Seriously? How do you know he was fired for that? How do you know he was fired at all?
In response to your second question.
You might be able to do daily in 5-10 minutes if you know all of the games in and outs. I can’t play a lot so I don’t know all the events. It takes time to find the rocks trees or plants for the day. That does take me close to 1/2 hour to do. Are you one of the lucky ones to have purchased stuff for your home instance so you don’t have to run all over the place ti farm like I do?
You don’t need to do the events and how does it take 30 minutes to find 4 things to scavenge in a region? People have the misconception that you need to know the in and outs to do them quickly when you really don’t.
The most important thing is to be upfront if you don’t know a path/dungeon. Many people are willing to help teach as most dungeons are relatively painless. Just don’t join the ones that ask for experienced players or are speed runs. If all else fails, create a LFG stating that you’re new and looking to do it. Keep in mind that hardly anyone does CoF Path 3.
Someone Let it go.
Let it go, can’t hold back anymore…
Or fix the bug that let’s them do that.
Are stat combinations other than zerker not viable? Are signets, or other utilities for that matter, not viable in group play if they don’t benefit or synergize with the group?
Whether racial elites are ever more beneficial than class elites is irrelavent as viable and optimal are two separate things. You can have skills that are viable but not optimal just as you can have skills that are optimal. For quite some time FGS, was the optimal skills for Ele. Did this make all of the other skills not be viable?
Sigh. I’m just gonna leave this here.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e31OSVZF77w
The argument goes beyond “Can I use this to PHIWdurpdurp?” Don’t argue semantics of “viable” versus “optimal”. That’s irrelevant.
The most pertinent line of questioning is: What situations exist where it would be preferable to use skill X instead of other skills? Is Skill X useful in a high-pressure situation? Is Skill Y useful for counter-play? If Skill X is useful and Skill Z has the same utility, why use one over the other?
For Great Justice vs Battle Roar, to use a non-elite example.
FGJ:
Grant fury and might to yourself and allies.
Fury: 8 s Might 3: 25 s Number of Targets: 5 Radius: 600 Cooldown 25s
Battle Roar:
Let out a battle roar, giving fury and might to nearby allies.
Fury: 6 s Might 2: 15 s Number of Targets: 5 Range: 1,200 Cooldown 25sFor a warrior, For Great Justice is almost clearly superior, except in range. In a small, tight group, there’s no reason not to use it. Warrior also gets the possibility of traits that further enhance it. Unless your group is known for spreading out wide, it clearly makes Battle Roar obsolete. (Or be weird and stack the two. /shrug)
But for another character, that may be one of the few ways to be a source of good buffs (ie, Thief). This becomes a choice of incomparables for the player: take a less-optimal offensive party buff, or find something else in the class list that solves the same problem differently (vulnerability stacking) or provides counter-play for another problem.Thing is, a lot of the racial elites are kind of WTF in that problem solving framework.
You’re arguing something beyond what my argument was about.
You can also make the argument that the sale was to get new players to play the game while justifying a ~$40 expansion assuming there is one. The game becomes more appealing if you only have to spend ~$50 for the game plus expansion compared to ~$80.
New class would just create more balancing issues. I have seen many class suggestions over the past two years and none of them have been unique. They’ve all been a blend of two or more existing classes.
Balancing issues won’t go away whether or not new classes are added. That’s not really a good reason to not add things.
It was more of a response to the post that someone made that new races shouldn’t or wouldn’t be added because of armor design difficulties.
Viable != optimal
I just wanted to point that out as I keep seeing that players are confusing the two.
The point the OP was trying to make is most racial elites aren’t even viable.
Then again, even most class elites are so conditional with such long cooldowns that they’re hardly worth the skill points invested in them.
/shrugDefine viable. All I saw was that they were not viable with the reasoning that because nobody uses them. The race elites have uses although there are better options available.
Not to be overly snarky, but define “better”. Better in a vertical way? Because then those skills are easily replaced. Better in a lateral way? As in the racial elites are incomparable to class elites because they do completely different things?
Where would racial elites be more useful than class elites?
While I understand the above statement that racial elites/skills need to be a bit underwhelming so that class is the major focus, if the racials just flat-out suck, why have them?
Are stat combinations other than zerker not viable? Are signets, or other utilities for that matter, not viable in group play if they don’t benefit or synergize with the group?

So i can buy a standard version of the game for just over £6.50?
Would i have to make a completely different account or does it tie in with my existing account?
It’s an entirely new account.
Also all of the “What I want in HoT” threads. Many of them haven’t been merged yet
Perfect time to buy extra accounts if you desire them.
For those who are choosing not to play the game because of the daily:
Would you still play the game if it was removed entirely?
How can you fix something that isn’t broken? Like stated in just about every one of these threads, if you have a problem with zerker, create your own group and say you want everyone but those that use that stat combo. Otherwise, don’t tell people how to play whether directly or indirectly.
With the low AP, it makes you wonder if collections were meant to be something that you massively achieve over long term play rather than as a short term goal that you just rush through.
I don’t like the new dailies. I get to play for only an hour or 2 and not everyday. I am a trucker and have to use truck-stops WiFi. Not the best in the world I dc alot . So for the hour or two that I have I spend all of it on just the daily. Need to do logging where did the trees go that day why are there so few? I spend at least 1/2 hour looking for what ever needs to be done that day trees rocks or the plants.
I don’t like PvP or WvW too much bullying going up there. I don’t even have the title “Been there done That” because of mean rude players in those 2 zones. I can’t do bosses because of the WiFi problem at truckstops. Too many people in one area and I really dc ALOT. Besides the boss I might need may not show up for another 4 hours I AM NOT GOING TO DRIVE A 40 TON TRUCK TIRED!!!! I will go to bed first before waiting on a boss. Why do we have to do W V W or P V P? Why aren’t there more options? Why must I spend what time I have just on Daily? I don’t understand why the changes everyone one well a few people think are so great.
The daily can normally be done in 5-10 minutes without having to interact with any players. If you focus on just one game mode, it’s going to take longer.
I’d give her a medal for saving Tyria.
As an addendum OP, you salvaged 145 ectos for 279 dust.
As amusing as this is (and it is indeed greatly amusing!), I don’t think it’s good business practice to embarass your customers !
I have to agree. John’s response made me feel greatly uncomfortable. It’s rather unprofessional because it erodes the relationship between the developer and the customer. What are the standards for when Anet should and should not humiliate players? My preference would be never.
He corrected a lie. It’s better to have truthful information out there rather than fabricated information created to serve someone’s ulterior motive(s). It would not have been embarrassing to the OP had he simply not made it up or make up another lie after it was pointed out how many salvage he had actually done.
They also used to do this in a reddit thread. People would say they did nothing wrong and were then proven that they were incorrect.
http://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/yxx3m/suspensions_for_offensive_names_and_inappropriate/
This is far different. Those people were breaking the rules and trying to embarrass and malign Anet over their suspensions. Even then, Anet stated why they were suspended because it was relevant to the topic. They did not do it to humiliate or attack them. They did it to clear up the misunderstanding.
As Filiha pointed out, John’s response brought nothing to the topic other than to humilate the OP. John’s first few responses resolved the issue. After that it just turned into a public lynching.
Just look at it in a simple matter without regards to the intent of those who chose to lie. All that was done was shed light and revealed the lie. Had they not purposely lied, there would be no embarrassment.
Their bad behavior doesn’t justify the bad behavior of others. Particularly, when one expects a higher standard of professionalism from the staff than from posters. A professionalism that has been fairly consistent, which makes this instance stand out so much.
That one post by John has only brought out only negativity in this thread.
Had the OP not lied, there would be no negativity in the first place. They corrected falsified, fabricated information. Correcting it removed any doubt about the system not working correctly. If I had lied that I salvaged 10K ectos but only got dust at a rate of 1.07, I should be corrected even after it was stated that nothing in the salvage rate had changed.

Well the OP came off as either complaining just to complain or trying to manipulate the market. That’s also the consensus in the reddit thread regarding this.
Gotta love RNG
Ignore the spear head showing up red and see if it let’s you discover one of the recipes. If not, then the NPE broke it.
EDIT: I did a bit more research. Because of the NPE, underwater combat doesn’t unlock until level 8. As a result, some of the low level spears were likely removed from the game. The same occurs for the other underwater weapons as well.
(edited by Ayrilana.1396)
Have you tried to see if you already have the recipe?
As an addendum OP, you salvaged 145 ectos for 279 dust.
Interesting that Anet tracks such data, but when you lose zone reward loot due to a bug with the inventory interface and encumber-ment, the data is nowhere to be found.
It likely isn’t registered to your account until it hits your inventory.
Dumb question but are you sure it’s the correct extractor?
In regard to examples like the coin flipping:
Think of it this way: each individual time you flip the coin, it’s still a 50/50 chance it lands on tails. So if you flipped the coin 999 times and got tails 899 times, then on that 1000th flip it is still a 50/50 chance it lands on tails.
Having it land on tails 899/999 times previously has no bearing whatsoever on the 1000th flip. None at all.
Expanding on this^
There is an exact same chance for EVERY combination of results from 1000 tosses to occur. The only reason 999/1 seems less likely is because you are looking for a SPECIFIC result in a sea of possible results. As there are a LOT more SPECIFIC results with a more even mix of heads and tails, the average will tend towards a 50/50 split and less towards the outlier results (1/999 and 999/1). Just be aware that you have the exact same chance of getting an outlier as you do of getting any other combination.
Granted, most people don’t care about the individual combination of toss results and care more about the overall average, which is why outliers are seen as “good” or “bad” luck.
False, flipping a coin follows a Bernoulli distribution
500-500 is more likely than 999-1
I’d re-read what he said.
The game is doing really well.
There’s been no intentional nerf to ecto salvage rate, but I’ll pull the numbers and check it out.
John, you have the resources in game, I am sure, to do an actual test on this. Not just a database number reference check. You may look at the secret file that says what drop rates are supposed to be, but just because those variables are right doesn’t mean something else is wrong.
It’s time consuming, but the only way to verify this would be to do a test on 5000 ectos with the exact same salvage kit that the OP used, and look at the results. Even then some will complain the sample size isn’t big enough, but this sort of hard testing needs to be done in several areas if you ask me.
I do not just buy it when we are told the records show nothing. We’ve been through this before, and it was only after months that Anet finally admitted the problem was a bug, and not “RNG is RNG”
They may track what people actually salvage from ectos so he can just run a trend to see if that changed at all recently.
Or, they could incentivize map event completion by requiring a level 5 Perseverance to open the Vinewrath chest?
This would be one of the worst ideas ever. If enough people leave the map for some reason and there aren’t enough players on the map, that map fails because no one wants to taxi into an event for no rewards.
How about an MF buff that specifically affects the last chest.
You hop maps, no effect on you. You stay on a map the entire time, you have a higher chance to get something good from the final chest than those that hop maps. It also helps alleviate the RNG issue people have with the coat box.
(edited by Ayrilana.1396)
Yes. Don’t run into it with any boons.
That was it. It steals boons from those who enter it. The reason I originally asked your class was because guardians passively get aegis which could be stolen.
My class is elementalist. And I have double checked my traits and skills if they will give boon to allies and everything was ok.
What about boons to yourself?
