Dailies no longer geared towards casuals?

First I have no complaint about the current dailies even though I’m just a PVE guy that’s not all that good. Getting 3 is not that hard ( usally 2 will be a vista and foraging… easy and quick )….even if the 3rd one is 4 events on a given map. It might take a little time but very doable…. 15 mins tops for that one.

But reading through this, the PvP thing caught my interest

I really suck at PvP and I don’t want to let down my team and worse, being called out for that.

I had no idea there was a daily thing where the idea was not to be good, just tag and die. Who would have guessed.

Anyhow I tried it….even at that, I guess I screwed up. Someone said to me something about C camps. They didn’t call me an idiot or anything, just told me to stop. I was only following another person and had no idea I shouldn’t do that.

I guess what I’m trying to say is even though its easy, there is still a learning curve.

People tend to assume that everyone knows the rules.

Usually what happens is the winning team alternates every match or remains the same every match. I’ve seen it change from one server to another. It’s preferred that people stay on the same teams but most play spam wars with the button to join the winning team.

When it comes to the capture points, there is usually one that designated as the point that each team alternates capturing. The other two points are reserved for the winning team to hold so don’t capture them. The only exception being if there’s the defend daily which one of those two points will be used for that.

There’s also generally no fighting without asking first. For the daily kills, it’s usually done off point and far enough away to not interfere with those who are simply alternating captures. Take turns killing others that are willing and allowing them to kill you.

If all else fails, just ask what the rules are.

FPS issue magically goes away when you reduce the number of player models on screen.

look if you do not believe what we say to you. what you can do go in wvw. on rush hours when there is lots of zerg happening. open the option panel look at the fps in the lower right corner then move on the map and look at the fps when you are alone when people or graphic npc comes near and when the big zerg 30+ comes over to fight another or 2 zerg of about the same size and keep your eyes on the fps. and you will see that many animation really does drop the fps. and when the animation go away from you it go back up again.

and to answer your answer no it is not magic it is the drawcall limit of dx 9. you have to understand that when the cpu is bound it cannot send the job fast enuff to the gpu to do the graphic on screen and that is when your fps start to drop. same as when you take your car and there is lot of traffic on the bridge. even if you put the speed limit higher on the bridge(cpu) it is jam so you will not go faster. there is a cop (api) that is stopping car on the other side of the bridge to regulate the traffic to gpu town. it cause over head. the over head cause the traffic on the bridge. even with a sport car you will get stuck on the bridge, you will arrive sooner in the trafic jam, it can help you clear the bridge a little faster once the bridge clear up. but it does not solve the traffic jam.

I’m not disputing that when there are more things to process that it affects the FPS. It was actually implied with my single sentence post. I actually just now tested it on full settings with two zergs in EB. I was getting about 20 FPS and then it increased to around 53 FPS when I reduced the player model count to the lowest setting.

The “like magic” comment was sarcasm. But it does increase your FPS when you set it to the lowest setting. You can easily test this out at Jormag and Maw. Most definitely Maw as the entire map is stacked on one location. Your FPS magically increases once you set the setting to lowest.

Dailies no longer geared towards casuals?

not all of us have the time to go to the 80-level zones,

If you have level 80s then you should have the level 80 zones. Like every other map there is, they are only a waypoint away from you. They are no closer or further than any other zone. Unless you’re saying something about how long it takes to do events? But events can take a long time to get 3 on any map, depending on how far away they are from you or how fast they are completed. That’s not a problem unique to the level 80 maps. All maps usually have people calling out events and pinging waypoints during event dailies.

Yeah, I do have two level 80s (I realize not everyone has the time to get that far), but I rarely play them now since I dread the LS 80 zones. I realize that the events are PvE, but it can be difficult to complete since there’s a lot of running around to do, and I’d rather spend that time questing and so forth. It just feels “out of the way” for my play style, and then I feel penalized (not earning Dailies) because of that.

Other people have mentioned the PvP Dailies, and how you don’t have to even win a match to earn the reward. To me, it’s not so easy. It still means going in and putting effort into PvP, and I absolutely loath fighting against other players (always get my kitten kicked. This has gone as far back as Halo: Combat Evolved for me. So, not a fan, sadly.).

Players that don’t have any characters at/over a certain level threshold will get a different set of dailies.

Aahh…so since I have two 80s and a 40, that makes my Daily pool geared more towards higher-level content? :/

Yes. I’m not sure where the cutoff is but once you reach a certain level, you know longer have access to the ones in the lower maps (e.g. Queensdale).

The grayed out achievements are those reserved for low level players who do not have any high level characters.

https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Daily#Today.27s_achievements

This page may actually answer what I’m not sure of but I haven’t really looked that closely.

I completed today’s daily in about 10 minutes and I complete most in about 5 min. If casual relates to time available to play, then there’s more than enough time to do the dailies if the player chooses to do them.

A single PvP match can get you up to 3 of the daily achievements completed. You can definitely do this in the PvE daily rooms.

You don’t even need story. Either use the GH to go there or just walk the way through Silverwastes (far Southwestern corner of the map) and enter the portal there. No story needed, not even prologue – many don’t know this.

That doesn’t work.

It worked for me just now, on a character that hasn’t even finished the main PS, let alone done any HoT story.

If that is indeed the case, it still doesn’t apply to the OP. Still good to know if I plan to run any other characters through the HoT maps.

If you use Guild Hall, sucks to be you if you have Lost Precipice, and you didn’t unlock Glider first!

The WP at the beginning of the zone is immediately unlocked when you enter.

That is true for core maps and maybe they changed HoT to match in the April patch but that wasn’t the case the last time I ran into this. In my case I did have bouncing mushrooms but when I exited gilded hallow octovine was up so I had no way of getting out. A friend ran into a similar issue as a result of using a Teleport to Friend in TD.

I was referring to VB as the person I had quoted was talking about that map. I’ve never been in a guild that has Gilded Hallow so I can’t really comment about it.

I’m not really all that surprised by this based on what I have experienced in game. Most players will follow the lead of someone else without questioning it. The most recent example that I saw being with Chak Gerent.

For the OP, I always jumped on the stem as the mushroom itself was always hit or miss.

Hmm, so far I cannot use crowbars as quickly as I gain them unless I actively avoid playing the content.

This is where I’d be really interested to hear what the patterns of behavior are for those with copious amounts of crow bars. Do you open every crate you come across? Do you skip some? How many events do you partake in in a day, and how many crates do you open? But these are questions that can’t be answered. Nobody’s going to be tracking those kinds of stats.

It’ll take more than one cycle before that starts happening. I started with about 30 crowbars and never ran out the entire time I was in the map. By the time it was day again, I had nearly the same amount of crowbars as I had began with.

It’s not that bad. You just need enough DPS to continuously burst down Garm fast enough that Eir doesn’t get to use her fire arrow volley. You just swap between Garm and her until she’s defeated. You may even get lucky and she bugs preventing her from leaving her stunned state.

For Canach, it’s best to have people that are capable of breaking his breakbar. You can go the conditions route but it just takes longer. Having a ranged weapon would help too in case you find yourself unable to handle fighting in melee.

There’s nothing special about the Mordremoth fight. One tip that I will add is to make sure you’re on the NE part of the map when he does his roar to signal the glider phase. This will set you up to be able to fly up to the tree branch.

If the breakbar bugs for him at the end, and the channeling the rift doesn’t break it, you all will have to break the bar yourselves. Be prepared for this.

And the problem with using steam is that it only gives you players who use that service and actually took the survey. Not to mention it’s based on whatever they consider to be “active”.

Survey is simply permission but at least that sample starts with those who game on PCs rather than using every PC on the planet as a starting point. Since nearly all new PCs ship with 10 that skews the “adoption rate”.

It can be tracked between those that upgrade vs those that simply get a new PC. The adoption rates for all PC users towards Win10 should be relatively comparable to that of gamers.

Sorry but using one website (e.g. Steam) to represent all PC’s is wrong. All you do is record those who took the time to complete the survey who happen to use Steam. I’m pretty sure it’s not representative for anything but Steam users.

look it is the steam survey and article from steam saying that windows 10 is the most used by stem and as a steady grow of minimum1.37% per month and last month 2.96%

means more job and more risk if they make error means more responsibility.

Clearly, there are significant incentives from both the hardware and software perspective for a clean slate, low-level approach to graphics API design, and the current engine ecosystem seems to allow for it. But what exactly does “low-level” entail? DirectX12 brings a plethora of changes to the API landscape, but the primary efficiency gains which can be expected stem from three central topics:
•Work creation and submission
•Pipeline state management
•Asynchronicity in memory and resource management

All these changes are connected to some extent, and work well together to minimize overhead, but for clarity we’ll try to look at each of them in turn isolated from the rest.
Work Creation and Submission

The ultimate goal of a graphics API is for the program using it to assemble a set of instructions that the GPU can follow, usually called a command list. In higher-level APIs, this is a rather abstract process, while it is performed much more directly in DirectX 12. The following figure compares the approaches of a ‘classical’ high-level API (DirectX 9), with the first attempt at making parallelization possible in DirectX 11 and finally the more direct process in DirectX12.

http://www.pcgamer.com/what-directx-12-means-for-gamers-and-developers/2/

what they are afraid of is the direct process in direct x 12 because they will have to do a very good job on the load balancing and testing. also because it is new and there is not many experience dev for dx 12 yet.

I don’t really feel like getting into this again as there’s nothing left of the horse and all of its future generations. All that I was pointing out was that you cannot use a survey conducted to a specific community and apply it across the board to everyone else.

Sorry, but as far as sample sizes, variability and anything else, steam community is by far the best viable sample for gathering statistics about pc gamers at large. Or what do you really think that any statistic in existence actually goes to everyone and check individually everyone?

Most data in the world is gathered through samples, and if you can think of a better sample than steam, i’d be freaking amazed.

What percentage of players use steam? A better route would be to go with the adoption rate of Windows 10 among all PC’s.

only problem what that is that it would give you the os system in the world not the percentage of gamer pc. think about it many company not in science stuff or gaming do not need performance pc. that data all ready exist market share of os. https://www.netmarketshare.com/operating-system-market-share.aspx?qprid=10&qpcustomd=0

but for gaming statistic steam collected data but there is no other gaming place that collect such data to our knowledge unless you know a place.

And the problem with using steam is that it only gives you players who use that service and actually took the survey. Not to mention it’s based on whatever they consider to be “active”.

White Knight =/= Anyone that disagrees with you.

There are always people on either side of an issue. Arbitrarily labeling those who you disagree with, and also happen to side with the developer, is wrong and has no revelency to the discussions. It’s the equivalent of the other side labeling those that they disagree with as crybabies who whine just to whine. Both instances of labeling are just as wrong and offer nothing to the discussion other than to create a toxic environment.

Yet GW1 had an actual GvG mode and it was popular for years so let’s keep talking about how it’s just the lore. GW2 was marketed with “Everything you love about GW1…” The GvG we know now will never be supported because it flies in the face of the grade school flavor of inclusivity that GW2 is all about (this is why you won’t ever get guild only commander tags).

To OP:

The missions already favor larger guilds. Whatever you can do with five you can do with twenty. Another issue is, when activities are guild centric in WvWvW, people who depend on the free floating, plug and play level of WvWvW get concerned that they’ll be phased out.

GvG was a small part of the game. The name was completely derived from the lore. This is not saying that it wouldn’t be nice to have GvG in GW2.

No. The lore was made up when the game’s development strayed away from a Guild vs. Guild initial core concept. (Sort of like how The Elder Scrolls decided its main continent was nicknamed “The Arena” because of its layout and brutal history when the first game went from Arena Gladiator Combat simulator concept to Open RPG over the course of its development.)

Do you have a source for that?

Not anymore. It was way back when “Prophesies” was simply “Guild Wars” – The “C” in CORPG didn’t stand for “Cooperative” – it meant “Competitive”. Guild Wars and Factions were intended to be built around the Guild Vs. Guild PvP, with the PvE content being essentially a sideshow for lore buffs and training wheels for new players to get into the game, with GvG PvP being the main draw. The design changed and followed the playerbase after Factions. And we ended up with Kormir.

I don’t remember any of that at all.

It’s interesting that several of the “too difficult” threads answer the problem by suggesting that players ally with large groups in order to do the content successfully. That’s really not the answer for a contemporary MMO where the solo player is a large and growing piece of the player pie. HoT is definitely not solo friendly and that is a problem that will need to be addressed. It’s doable solo, but it’s not fun.

Maybe it’s because telling players to get better, as well as giving advice on how to do that, gets shrugged off as they just want the game nerfed to their level.

HoT is most definitely solo friendly at about the same level as Orr.

They won’t see much improvement, if any, by going to a higher graphics card. GW2 is very CPU intensive and that is the bottleneck most of the time.

Best map for orichalcum ore?

Cursed Shore (5), Malchor’s Leap (5), Southsun Cove (2), and Frostgorge Sound (2). The numbers in parentheses is how many regular orichalcum nodes are on the map. Southsun Cove does have a rich orichalcum node at the top of the hive guarded by a champ karka.

Drytop, Silverwastes, and the HoT maps also have orichalcum nodes but I haven’t paid attention to the counts.

You can use https://gw2nodes.com/ and put in the IP. It relies on other players reporting the locations. You can find your IP by typing /ip while on the map.

Add DR that affects pets/minions only after about 45 min and won’t reset until you kill things in some other area.
