What point does deleting the account do?

Deleting accounts will free up space on the servers it will also free up character names that others can use.

All previously used names become available to everyone after 24 hours since the character was deleted.

I doubt the account really ties up that many resources and especially for those who would even use the feature.

Or people can just delete their characters if they plan on quitting.

That does not delete their account though just their characters and they also keep their names on that account.

What purpose is there to deleting the account if the characters have already been deleted?

The stone takes the place of a fourth item of equal rarity, with level equivalent to the average level of the first three items. The replaced item will be either a generic armor, trinket or weapon, depending on the other 3 items used, but will not have a specific subtype (e.g. it will be “a weapon”, not “an axe”)

The gem/gold exchange operates independently from the TP. Neither will be a good indicator as to how the other is doing.

That’s not true. More gold in player’s pockets means they will buy more gems. More demand, until the price rises to equalise it again. The two are not directly connected but they will reflect each other to some extent.

I’m pretty new to being a gamer and know next to nothing about video cards. My current card is a GeForce GTX 580 v364.72 and to keep my computer from crashing I have to run the game at the highest performance setting, which is terrible to look at.

The minimum specs suggests a GeForce 7800, but most of what I see around are the 700-900 series. From what I can see, the 7800 is in the price range of the 980, but seems a lot older.

I’m running on a budget, and so my question is, would a GTX 750 Ti be a good buy on a budget that meets the minimum requirements, or is there something more affordable that would run the game comprably?

While I did post specifically about the full stats of your PC build earlier, I have some other questions.

How long have you had your PC?
Is the GeForce 580 a new addition?
What power supply do you have?

What I’m thinking is that you upgraded an existing PC with a new graphics card. Unfortunately, your power supply is unable to handle it. It may work fine when settings are on low, but the higher settings require your system to use more power which you may not have enough.

I had a friend a year or two ago that had a similar issue. He had a 400W power supply trying to run a new GeForce GTX 680. The computer would run for maybe 20 seconds on high graphics settings before it crashed. It would work fine when everything was on low settings.

My suggestion is to upgrade your power supply to something like 750W. It should be more than enough and well within your budget. I would still post here with what your power supply is. Buy my assumption is that is your issue.

You need like 250 hero points. HoT hero points award 10 and about 20iah can be done solo.

Fastest way is to go to Dragon’s Stand with XP boosters. You’ll easily gain 1.5-2M XP per run.

You can go to WvW but it’s better, and faster, to do it on HoT maps.

Server only matters when it comes to WvW. Unless you regularly do WvW, I personally wouldn’t worry about it. They changed some things but eventually the novelty of it will wear off again.

DirectX 11/12 request [merged]

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Ayrilana.1396

Ayrilana.1396

I also agree that dx 12 would help this game(gw2) a lot. any one saying the opposite do not know what they are talking about. face it dx12 brings all core and thread can be use. new pc have 4 core and 4 thread. other dx version where all using 1thread of 1 core. so it can use 8x more of the cpu power. also dx 12 can use all the graphic card on the pc as one what ever size or brand. and new pc have often have 2 or more now. so of course it would help the game a lot. it would free the cpu and send the job to the gpu. no more bottle neck. means higher fps and more constant.

DX12 itself will not provide the improvements that you think.

I feel like I may be able to clear up some things here.

GW2 stays on DX9 and 32bit client which kinda.. lags a lot, and sometimes even crashes on huge battles/worldbosses (i see you Tequatl).

For the vast majority of players, the lag is unrelated to both of these.

All software have a thing called threads. You can think of each thread as a highway lane: They run in parallel, and they each perform different tasks simultaneously. They are what applications use to scale with multiple cores on CPUs, as each thread can only run on one CPU core at a time.

Each application has a thread known as the main thread. For games that thread is usually the thread that’s in the driver’s seat of the frame. It determines what to process and when on a higher level, such as “process OS messages”, “update the game state”, “process animations”, “send state to the render thread”, etc. All the different things that go into a game frame. The majority of game engines do some of these on a different thread, but in many cases the main thread still determines when it should happen.

So since threads are useful for scaling things, you’d think that you could simply create more threads and get more work done. But while it’s true that you have more computing power with more threads, threads also have downsides. For one, you cannot modify data in memory while another thread is reading that same data. In order to do this one thread has to wait for the other to stop using the data, meaning work is done in serial even if the code itself is running on multiple threads. To make matters worse, the OS is not guaranteed to put a thread back to work the very moment the other thread has finished. It can actually take a long-ish time (long being a very relative term). Due to this, software engineers are forced to properly design their applications to work well in parallel. Doing this after the fact is usually on the range of non-trivial to very hard.

Which brings us to GW2. GW2 does a lot of processing, and much of it is done on the main thread. That is also where its bottleneck tends to be: The main thread. There are conscious efforts in moving things off the main thread and onto other threads (every now and then a patch goes out that does just this), but due to how multi-threading works it’s a non-trivial thing that take a lot of effort to do. In a perfect world, we could say “Hey main thread, give the other threads some stuff to do if you’re too busy”, but sadly this is not that world.

As for DX9 and 32bit: Moving off of DX9 wouldn’t buy us a whole lot performance wise, as all interaction with DirectX is happening on the render thread, which is generally not the bottleneck. Moving from 32-bit to 64-bit also does not really buy us a lot performance-wise. There are some optimizations the compiler is able to do with 64-bit that it can’t do otherwise, but the actual FPS gain is minimal at best.

And about crashing on Tequatl: Here’s one case where a 64-bit client could actually help. Many of the crashes happening on Tequatl (which are still quite few, mind you) are cause of memory fragmentation. The bigger memory address space of 64-bit apps could help prevent that. This becomes more of a problem the longer you keep your client running.

Tequatl Whirlpools and Achievements

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Ayrilana.1396

Ayrilana.1396

The problem is that the whirlpools appear near the end of a burn phase but if you burn him too fast it doesn’t show; as people have been getting better at Teq, this is being increasingly more common. In the past it was much easier and the game has had a lot of power creep since.

But then if you get a fail map and can’t burn him at all, the whirlpool isn’t going to show.

In essence, we have gotten too good at doing Teq and the best way to get him is to burn him mediocrely but not so bad you can’t even get him down.

I’ve seen then regardless as to how fast he was burned.

Ok, to give some background I have finished all maps in HoT, Story is also complete, all basic HoT zone achievement points for MP’s done. Now i am at a loss for both ideas and direction.

I need 23 more MP to finish off my HoT masteries, have tried a few of these challenges and do not like either the mechanics and/or being forced to do them, and some of these are definitely in a sad state to begin with.

My question is, I am getting frustrated by not being able to find an alternative to getting these remaining MP and do not see where that could be accomplished. Am i missing something here or should i just resign myself to never finishing them if i don’t do these challenges?

You technically only need 5 MP from adventures if you get them from everywhere else in HoT.

Here are some adventures that I suggest you give another try as I feel that they would be the easiest to get gold in without too much invested time. Just watch videos to see how people did them.

  • Salvage Pit
  • Flying Circus
  • On Wings of Gold
  • Ley-Line Run
  • Drone Race
  • Beetle Feast
  • Haywire Punch o Matic

The Haywire one used to be very difficult, if not impossible, but now you can barely get gold by simply spamming the #2 skill and repositioning your direction every now and then.

Future living story updates should provide you with more mastery point options. If you’re in no rush, you can try to hold out until then.

That’s barely an issue at all.

So long as the price is set high enough then I don’t see an issue. With how much currency that I have been getting though, it’d probably have to be between 30-50 per crowbar. Even then, I don’t see why it’s necessary when events reward so many crowbars now. Is there something that these airship crates drop that people need a lot of?

Please don’t use insults/ad hominem attacks because I disagree with you.

Do you have any source to back up your claim that those who would not buy the expansion are the players that make the most purchases from the gemstore? Or did you make that up?

Yes, there’s nothing wrong with not finding value for yourself in purchasing the expansion.

You know full well I did not use any insult, and if I am showing attitude, I am being friendly more than anything else. I know you guys are through a lot every day.

But do I have to prove anything here from a financial standpoint? Did I make a claim about that? I only said “I honestly believe”, while discussing your suggestion about isolating non-expansion players on “legacy servers”. Do you think there’s a chance that could happen? Perhaps speak to ANet on our behalf? They sure don’t listen to us. Maybe they’ll listen to you.

White knight is an insult just like if I used whiner to anyone that complains. It offers nothing to the discussion and is unnecessary.

You made a claim, although opinion, that the better part of paying customers would be on the legacy servers. I was just asking you for your source to see how you reached the conclusion that you believe that so many paying customers would be those that didn’t buy the expansion.

A large number of events can be done solo in HoT. Generally the only ones that can’t are those labeled as group events and those that have champions. Sure some of those could be done solo but not by the average player so I’m not taking them into consideration.

A large number of the defend camps in VB during the night can done solo depending on how many natural spawns that there are. The trend is that players feel that you need 2+ players at each camp. If you let the NPC’s die, and leave only one mob alive, you don’t get respawns. Respawns only occur when you kill every mob in a wave. If you leave something like a mender alive, all you’ll have to worry about are the natural speaks and the vines.

Why can't we buy crowbars?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Ayrilana.1396

Ayrilana.1396

The issue is that the airship cargo is the primary means of getting currency for that map. Other maps you can get them from events directly (or from the event rewards).

If they allowed players to buy crowbars, Anet would either have to reduce the currency earned from airship cargo significantly or have a high price to purchase those crowbars. The issue is that the airship cargo award so much currency that you can essentially do an endless farm of them and still earn excess currency in the process.

The downside to this is that it takes people away from doing the events. You would have people farming the map for airship cargo across their alts. This is a little different than SW as there you got maybe 50% of the currency back so you eventually ran out before needing to do events again.

Amalgamated Gemstone supply unsustainable

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Ayrilana.1396

Ayrilana.1396

There’s no issue with supply since they are not making anymore new legendaries.

The thing is you need these orbs, pearls and burls whatever for other things than just amalgamated gemstones. So the title is kind of not the problem, and is just a knock-on effect of the real problem :

but the issue is that there is NO reliable way of getting these said orbs, crests, etc.

This, is a problem that needs addressing. Not for Amalgamated Gemstones, but for everything else you craft with these items. It was a bad decision requiring so many gems/crests etc for Amalgamated without adding a reliable way to obtain them in the first place.

Amalgamated gemstones were the largest sink for these items. With no new legendary weapons, demand for them will go down as supply increases. The other recipes that use these items require so few that it’s really a non-issue when it comes to them.

3 years ago, we didn´t have a mastery to take the items so if people were farming afk, they had to use bots.

Moreover, statements change with time. Some months ago, they were going to release a full set of legendaries, but they changed their mind. We shouldn´t use a post which is 3 years old to say what is forbidden or not.

Just because things have the potential to change over time doesn’t mean that Anet needs to state their stances every week, month year, decade, etc. They have a stance. Unless they indicate that it has changed, it hasn’t.

I don’t like afk farming and I hope anet finds a way to stop it, that disclaimer aside….

… The problem is that the rule you speak of was put in place when only 3rd party software could loot for an afk farmer. That has changed, and now we have the ability to auto loot clarification of the previous statement is needed, particularly when one of the developers made a contradictory statement about pet/minion mechanics being used to gain loot in unintended ways not being considered as an exploit. There are plenty of exploits that anet has fixed, I don’t see why they’d let this hang out there and not address it further because they addressed a similar concept 3 years ago. They need to clarify if they consider this an disallowed exploit.

They don’t need to clarify. Their statement is pretty simply as it is. Back around launch, there were people who did this to level their characters.

That was from years ago.

By automated she is referring to a 3rd party program

The reality is- With mastery’s as they are – Any Necro/Guard/Ranger can afk loot farm. Without any automation on the players end.

I’ve reported the same person for afk farming since before Christmas. Nothing has ever been done. The person is still in game, and still using the same spot to afk farm.

Policies or statements that someone makes don’t have expiration dates. Whether she stated it months ago, or even years, doesn’t matter.

Why not more PvE options like that Daddicus said. I don’t do WvW or PvP. So the 4 options for PvE is lacking. (Happy for all the people who do the PvP, JPs, WvW. Glad you enjoy them and can DO them. I can’t and don’t, so don’t tell me to do them. )

Since the change, the number of PvE dailies that I can actually do has dropped significantly. The number of choices is 4….you have to do 3 of those. So basically no real options in PvE. ( Again…don’t tell me to do PvP or WvW. I don’t consider them a valid alternative to PvE. )

More PvE options are needed, not trying to push non PvP players into those areas or adding JPs that are near impossible to do.

gosh, there are usually 4-6 really really easy dailies that can be done in < 10 mins with minimal effort, frequently without even pitting yourself against other players (because people like to cooperate to complete the dailies). if only you would step outside your comfort zone long enough to try it out.

more options are not needed.

youre defending your closed mind and trying to preemptively cut off a response like mine with your post. but a response like mine is exactly the response a post like yours deserves.

seriously. daily farm custom arenas are not pvp. theyre pve. the sooner you knock it into your head the easier itll be for you to check off dailies.

I suspect you are confusing a player who Doesn’t do WvW or PvP after thoroughly trying both, with a player who has not tried both.
Why would you make that assumption without asking?
Isn’t it possible they are fine with either game mode but don’t enjoy the players there?

I’m glad too that you like PvP. Some of us would simply rather try soloing the Vinewrath. We both paid the same for the game so we both get to enjoy the parts we like. My “closed mind” lol, wont change because of your likes or dislikes, ever.

There are “PvE servers” for PvP where players can get their dailies without having to engage in actual PvP. Several of the WvW dailies don’t require interacting with any players.

There’s a group of PvE players that want more PvE options after they completely disregard 8 other possible choices for dailies. There are even those that go further and do the same for specific PvE dailies that they don’t want to do such as JP’s and adventures. Any reduction in choices is completely caused by the players themselves.

How bout like a 10% discount or something for every time you’ve bought the game, so for example the next expansion:
new players pay $50
GW2/HoT players pay $45
GW2+HoT players pay $40

The vast majority of expansion sales for MMO’s come from existing players. I can gaurantee you that them, nor any other company, will discount their expansion specifically to existing players. Companies often give discounts in one form or another to new customers in order to attract their sales. It has nothing to do with whether or not they value existing customers.

There is an activation key for Heart of Thorns separately or will I have to start a new account with the core game + HoT? @@

Tt’s just one key. If applied to a new account or a F2P account, it unlocks the core game and the expansion. If applied to an already existing full account, it unlocks just the expansion.
