Instead of having that obnoxious party join UI at the end of the match, another thing they can do is add a new tab to the friends list which tracks players you recently grouped with. That would be much better than what we have now imo.

RAIDS

Added a new chat command to assist squads in conceding defeat faster. The command instantly applies your currently equipped finisher to yourself. It can only be used in raids.

English: /surrender /concede /forfeit /resign

I love how /resign was added to pve but not pvp. What gives? I’m sure there will be some excuse why it can’t be done. And I’ll say to you it worked just fine in gw1 pvp.

Thank you

The delay is there so players who accept the party don’t leave the match early and and get back to the lobby before the party is actually created. Otherwise they’d be able to queue and then get kicked out, and it’s just all sorts of weird user experiences.

However if someone doesn’t intend on joining the party anyways, there is no harm in letting them leave early other than maybe slightly less usage of the feature.

I don’t like the feature. Having to wait 15 secs just to leave the match feels like a nuisance. Why not have the feature available AFTER you leave the match?

GW2 not made for sPvP

Balance changes that happen every 6 months is what really kills pvp. If you look at GW2 pvp competitors like mobas and even a fps like Overwatch, balance changes happen way more frequently. Maybe once per month.

Right now gw2 pvp is a hot mess. There needs to be a stronger focus archetypes, instead of allowing some classes to do everything at once.

If you have high damage you should be super squishy, with little defensive skills. If you are a bunker your damage should be low, but you have lots of defensive skills, if you are a hybrid you can do a little of both but excel at neither. Etc etc

It kind of was like that at the beginning but then hots came….and well things became way worse. At this point, I’m not too sure if anet actually cares or not. Probably not. Pve is where the money is.

His cpu is fine, gw2’s poor cpu optimization is the problem. 10 years from now, people will still have fps issues with the latest tech and players will be telling them their cpu is too weak to run the game.

Anet needs to do some serious optimizing, to make sure the game scales well with hardware….which at the time it does not.

It’s not me you disagree with, it’s Anet; they established the class is in a good place, not me. The lack of critical thinking is the correlation maked by cherrypicking a few under performing skills and observing there are unhappy players and concluding the class doesn’t hit Anet’s desired performance target based on those things.

On the other hand, it’s not hard to see that even though there are some under performing skills and unhappy people, the class can skill hit whatever performance targets Anet may have. Furthermore, there are other classes that people would consider quite good, and those classes also have some under performing skills and unhappy people. In conclusion, some under performing skills and unhappy people should not make anyone that has applied critical thinking to the topic to conclude Guardians don’t meet Anet’s targets or that those two things are necessarily significant factors to a classes ability make those targets.

Yea but you aren’t a mouth for anet, so why take the stance like you understand exactly what the developers are thinking?

What I said is completely reasonable, signets, spirit weapons and to a degree consecrations have been hot garbage since launch. That is almost 4 years of being garbage. I don’t know about you man, but that is a long kitten time. And that isn’t just a “few” skills. Its actually quite a lot, plus the traits associated with them. I didn’t even bother to mention weapon sets either.

When you have system mechanics that give the player choice on how to build and play their character, but many of the choices aren’t choices at all but “why would I use this over this”. Then there is a problem with design. Its understandable if there is just a skill here and there that isn’t very practical, but guardian as well as every other class have a lot of skills and traits that just aren’t viable choices but fillers.

With the way they balance the game skills, it seems to me that its overwhelming to them. Even though its significantly less than GW1, they have done a worse job at presenting realistic choices between skills and traits. They would be better off creating a very limited and closed skill system than having what we use today.

The state of a select few skills is not indicative that the class does not perform or if the class is hitting Anet’s desired target for performance. It pains me to see people make this ridiculous claim all the time. It demonstrates a lack of critical thinking.

So I lack critical thinking because I’m not in agreement with your view on how the class is currently functioning? Who are you again?

Best thing to know: Use stun or daze at the end of their evade frame then sneeze on him, or use AoE.

I see this suggestion a lot. And it doesn’t really make sense. Most interrupts are on at least 1/4 casting times, some more. Taking server latency into consideration and the fact that the time between the end of the evade frame and a new evade frame is slim. Even a player who is skilled would not be able to consistently interrupt a thief at the end of their evade frames.

in PvP

Posted by: Aza.2105

Aza.2105

Well in s2 everybody was playing necro, it wasn’t uncommon to encounter 3 or 4 necros on a team because the class was severely overpowered. Warrior was literally trash, having one on your team meant it was 5v4 because your average noob could easily take down a warrior of any skill level in seconds. Guardian was actually a decent class in S2 because True Shot could actually kill people and Dh was a hard counter to Reapers. Scrapper was very good as well because of slick shoes and healing turret spam combined with other shanadigans allowed Scrapper to sustain in 1v5 fights if he was good enough. Smokescale for Ranger was deadly and could bite your posterior right off of you if you weren’t careful. Revanant was good, thief was good, mesmar was really good as well along with the good ol Ele.

Not true. Warrior was fine, it just needed a bit a of sustain. Only people who hang from the balls of metabattle thought they didn’t contribute to the team.

Worst pvp we ever had

Aza.2105

GW2 pvp is bad. But this is the result of GW2 being primarily a pve game. Pvp suffers from having pve elements part of it. Pve mechanics never ever go well with pvp. Don’t expect any changes, just expect things to get worse.

As history shows, gw2 will always be plagued with extreme balance problems. Either stuff will be too tanky and can’t die fast or stuff will just kill too fast. There will probably will never be a balance between the two.

Only thing I can suggest is just playing another pvp game to your liking.

Now this is a pretty silly statement to make. GW2 PvP is designed specifically to allow you to PvP with any char at any time without having to go through any kind of leveling, grinding or anything other than making your char.

How about the WvW stuff? Yes here you do have to grind but prior to fractals and raids this was pretty much the endgame. Yet this game is designed primarily for PvE?

I think a lot of you are just spoiled to be honest. Go play a game like Black Desert Online. Without putting in 500+ hours of pure PvE grinding you are nothing but cannon fodder in PvP there. Fat, easy kill. And that game has PvP as its endgame! Hell go join the rebirth of DarkFall (aka kitten Fail) where there’s full player looting if you get killed and then complain about how tough and unforgiving GW2 is. Seriously people, wake up. Just because balance isn’t 100% right now doesn’t make this a “PvE focused game” nor does it make it an outright bad PvP game.

99% of your complaints and whines are about metabuilds and mechanics that only impact people playing at a level you can’t ever hope to acheive. Get over yourself.

PS: No I am no “white knighting” for ArenaNet but this needs to be said. Stop being silly sausages.

Your post has absolutely nothing to do with what I’m saying.

Do thieves have high toughness? No
Do thieves have good condi removal? Not really
Do thieves have high access to aegis or resistance? No
Thieves do have access to stealth which was rendered useless when devs gave engis and revs 6 sec reveal on 20 sec CD.
So what is left? Rrrright, dodges.

SO, how do you expect thieves to survive this madness of condi/aoe/CC spam that was introduced with HoT?

This list is mostly true. But that doesn’t make perma evade less op. But you are correct, without evade theif will fold like paper. Its kind of sad, they are super squishy and can no way compete toe to toe with any class without the evade and dodge mechanics.

We absolutely do not need this. This would add a whole new level of toxicity to the game. Either people would just resign every match because they lost the first midfight or they’d rage at you and harass you for not resigning. If you don’t want to waste time losing then don’t lose, simple. If you queue solo you will have bad matches, it sucks but it happens so deal with it. If you have friends in game then play with them and win as a premade. There are plenty of other options, adding this option would be unnecessary and would bring about a whole new level of toxicity bad enough that I’d quit the game the day the patch came out.

GW1 had this and there was never any problem. It takes all 5 party members to /resign for it to work.

No it does exclude pvp, even though the skill and traits are the same the content you face is entirely different. They dont want that wait around to have fun for dungeons, pvp you are facing other players it’s not the same.

Wrong, pvp is the same. GW1 had the problem. Where you would have to wait around for a monk/rit healer for hall of heroes or team arenas. Or in random arenas, the players who didn’t have a monk had a worse chance of winning. So it does apply, anyone who knows about the game can tell you that.

Anet have never said there wouldn’t be healer and tank in the game, stop putting words in their mouth. They wanted every class to be able to self heal therefore every class can fulfill the role of healer and tank, so stuff like wait an hour for a tank so you can raid wouldn’t happen. It also has nothing to do with pvp.

“There are no dedicated healers that do full healing. Every profession has some form of support to a greater or lesser extent, but none of them enough that they aren’t also fighters,” Peters told PC Gamer."

“We don’t like sitting around spamming ‘looking for healer’ to global chat,” Peters said. “That feels an awful lot like preparing to have fun instead of having fun.”

“What we don’t have, and what we didn’t want to have, was a character who stands at the back of the party and plays the ‘party health bar game’ – where they just look at an interface, watch health bars go down, click on a skill, click on those health bars, and that’s all they do during combat,” added Flannum.

Instead, support will be “proactive”. “Healing is for when you are already losing. In Guild Wars 2 we prefer that you support your allies before they take a beating,” Peters explained in his piece on the Guild Wars 2 website. “Other kinds of support include buffs, active defence, and cross-profession combinations.”

Tanking is “the biggest break from the traditional MMO setup”, he said.“Tanking is the most rudimentary form of the most important combat fundamental, control… Control is the only thing versatile enough to get away from the rock-paper-scissors gameplay of other MMOs.” Warriors might block projectiles or interrupt charges rather than simply soak up damage, Flannum told PC Gamer.

That is just for dungeon which does not apply to.pvp and you know it. And does druid do full healing where he sit behind team and watch health bar? Just because a class can heal alot doesnt mean they are a dedicated healer.

It applies for the entire game. There is no separation between pve and pvp skill wise in this game. Also, it was even more for pvp hence the nerf on skills like selfless daring at the time. The biggest healing at the time was tome of courage, which allowed guardian to actually become a healer for a short duration.

Pretty much what druid does now. Nah druid don’t sit back and spam heals. They instead are in the middle of the fight spamming heals Not much of a difference really.

Now we have them. (Druid and Ele) They even went as far as nerfing guardian healing in pvp (selfless daring) because they didn’t want to see any healers.

Anet said there will be no form of tanking in this game.

Now we have taunt.

Looking at how the game played a couple years ago…its totally different. Classes can have burst damage while remaining tanky. Thief single target damage is dwarfed by the amount of high damage aoe in game. Druid and Ele can do damage while being able to heal (bunker guardian sure couldn’t). In majority of fights you end up having a full body cavity search against a wall because the amount of cc going around, because anet decided it was a good idea to nerf stability.

Skull grinder has been this way since hots launch. Some warriors were using it last season (like me) and no one complained. The only thing they complained about was how garbage warrior was and to either gtfo of the match or go on a different class. The past patch changed nothing in regards to condi warrior. The only thing it changed was adrenal health, which gives warrior a bit more staying power.

So why the complaints now? Why not in season 2 or season 1?

Wait wait, I know. Now there are a bunch of metabattle hero warriors running around and you finally notice that condi warrior does do damage. Well no ****. Figure out how to counterplay it, because its not hard. Warrior is the most predictable class in the game.

Apparently the latest attempt to “shake up the meta” is to super power warriors.

Great, people will just stack Eles and Thieves to counter it.

Condi Warriors

in PvP

Posted by: Aza.2105

Aza.2105

PS dont CC them. It gives them toughness and healing. But soft cc/cripple and chill = really effective

With the buff to Adrenal Health, as well as all the conditions lurking around, it’s probable that most warriors now prefer Cleansing Ire to Rousing Resilience. Heavy CC might not be a bad option: few stun breakers (Endure Pain, Headbutt, possibly Savage Instinct), and no stability outside of Berserker mode (Eternal Champion).

Kite them as needed, have them use their two stances, beware the hard CC (mace, shield, headbutt) and the berserker mode (for the mace burst).

I doubt anyone is going to be taking Rousing Resilience. Cleansing Ire is just too good.

Nope, the best condi warr use RR. So, he is basically a tank and does condi dmg on top of that. Just image someone with outrage (10 sec( + RR (2.5k hp and 1000 toughness every 8 sec). So, you can go full viper with any condi build without hurting your defense.

1000 toughness is nothing. Damage is so high because of the power creep, that toughness doesn’t matter much. Also its kind of hard to measure the effectiveness of RR, since it only works while being stunned.

I wrote GW2 Balance Manifesto

in PvP

Posted by: Aza.2105

Aza.2105

Here are Anets philosophy for each class, why on earth doesn’t the game follow this design anymore?

Class balance philosophies

We normally try to employ metered and controlled balance changes with each pass, rather than huge reductions or improvements to classes. We want to get all classes on the same playing field, and we want to avoid “whack-a-mole” style balance. HUGH increases and HUGE decreases lead to meta instability, and thusly, we try to make multiple small tweaks rather than putting in massive changes that we have to later correct.

When designing and balancing the classes, we try to make sure that class roles and identities stay intact. So, in doing so, we make sure that there are rules and boundaries outlining the capabilities and weaknesses of each class.

Warrior We want the Warrior to be capable of good melee damage in a sturdy body. They can still do some decent damage at range, but they aren’t as good at it as the Ranger (with their pet). They have a hard time taking enemy boons down, and instead, have to just go through them with raw force. They may have a hard time with enemy conditions, and may need to ask for ally help in order to keep themselves free of hampering conditions.

Guardian The Guardian is a heavy armor class who relies on boons to make up for their low levels of innate health. They focus on area control and punishing enemies for the position on the battlefield. We want them to feel very powerful when their boons are active, but if those boons are removed, they will start to feel pressure. They can remove conditions more easily than the Warrior, but share the Warrior’s need to be in melee range to dole out maximum damage.

Ranger The ranger class combines its own innate abilities with the skills of their pets. We’ve balanced the class around the idea that you always have a pet with you to aid in any fight. The fact that the ranger can have multiple pets allows them to combine their pets in ways that most impact the current fight. We want the Ranger to have some of the evasion enjoyed by the Thief, as well as the mobility other classes employ. The class is able to deal physical or condition damage, and it can do this in melee or at range.

Engineer The Engineer is a highly versatile class. While it doesn’t have the long range capabilities of the Ranger, or the melee capabilities of the Warrior or Guardian, they are comfortable at medium ranges in most fights. They have a lot of control, and use their boons to keep themselves (and allies) alive in a fight. They can use different kits based on the situation, but this extreme versatility comes at a cost in damage on their main hand weapons.

Thief Thieves are the masters of mobility, stealth and high single target damage. They can be very fragile if you counter their stealth with area of effects or large stacks of conditions, but they trade this fragility in order to have some of the highest burst damage in the game. They are able to help allies through traps, venoms and the mobility to flank most encounters.

Mesmer Mesmers rely on illusions in order to accomplish their goals. They need illusions to accomplish some of their highest damage and control, and without the illusions, they become fairly fragile. They can deal with enemy boons better than most classes, but enemy conditions can often be a problem. They share some of the stealth and mobility that the Thief enjoys, but suffer from a low health pool if you get past all their tricks.

Ele We see the elementalist as the king of versatility. The skill ceiling for the Ele is exceptional, as the ability to leverage all four attunements at the right time is crucial for understanding the elemetnalist. The Ele boasts some of the best team support and control abilities in the game, as well as some great area of effect damage.

Necro The necro boasts the highest natural health of all the caster classes, and also has death shroud to extend that life total even higher. While they don’t have some of the escape or damage reduction capabilities that other classes boast, they do have a lot of ways to win attrition fights. They have access to poison on multiple weapons, they are able to combine condition damage with raw damage, and they have multiple disables to interrupt enemy skills. Necomancers also have multiple movement disabling abilities, while allows them to chase down enemies who are low on health.

Going forward
•Tank vs spike vs physical DPS vs condie DPS. We want to keep making balance changes that allow all classes to have various builds they can use. We don’t want tanks dominating the game, and we don’t want spike builds dominating. It’s healthy to have multiple types of builds in the meta, so we’ll be improving the balance to facilitate a healthy meta.
•AOE balance. We feel that in PvP some AOE builds are too strong for the opportunity cost, and we’ll be bringing those in line in the next few patches.

GW2 is too polarizing, it has always been. Skills and mechanics either work very well (to the point of cheese) or do they do not work well at all. Why? There isn’t enough counter play available to many mechanics that exist in the game. This leads to the perpetual cycle of players asking developers to nerf something because its too strong, because the counter either doesn’t exist in game or because the counter is too weak to be a threat.

Without a viable counter it allows players to spam endlessly without much thought of being punished for it. I doubt this will ever change either, since GW2 has been out since 2012 and the game has been having the same extreme balance problems since launch.

The solution has always been there, INTRODUCE more counter play mechanics. Dealing with players who abuse evade? There should modest portion of skills that go through evade. Got a player who abuses block? There should be more skills that are unblockable. Got a player who abuses stealth? There should be more anti stealth skills that exist for each class.

Furthermore each classes role should be distinct. At some point Anet released a design philosophy for each class and why they functioned the way they did. With the xpac, anet just tossed that philosophy out the window.

Do berserkers need nerf?

They need to rework the endure pain trait. Having one endure pain is enough. They should change the trait to do something like give protection or a percent damage reduction instead. Having 8 seconds of invulnerability is can be game changing if coordinated especially when warriors have so many defensive capabilities and their passive health regeneration.

I agree, they should change it to defiant stance instead.

Warrior’s effective HP is low without adrenal health. Remember warrior has little access to blinds, block, aegis and they have no protection. Before the change warrior was very squishy, now they feel just about right. I don’t think it needs a change, it wouldn’t make much sense.

Sad.

Guild Wars 2 is destined to end up like Lineage 2 in terms of performance. No matter what hardware people get, the performance will always be bad.

My performance has been great the last four years. If I were to upgrade it would be even better. The same goes for other people. As they upgrade their computers, they will eventually be able to play on higher graphics settings. The graphics on the highest settings look infinitely better than WoW and that game has been out for over a decade.

I don’t belive that.
Put all your settings on high and try to get 60 fps at WvW or any populated events like boss kills etc.
It’s just not possible.

About 144 FPS … big NOPE.

If game can acctually utilize hardware ressources before it brings us FPS lagg, that great optimisation.

But what you see in GW2? CPU usage at 40%, GPU usage at 30%, but FPS are dropping. Ehem why you no use 100% CPU and GPU GW2? Why?

We don’t acctually need DX12. We just need this game to be better optimised and acctually use Hyper Threading and utilize 100% of GPU and CPU if it needs to.
Sadly this 10 years old engine can’t do that, and won’t ever be able to do so.

You do not need 60fps to have a game playable. As lng as it’s over 24fps your brain will not tell you differently. Once it drops below 24fps, your brain will notice. This whole “game must run at 60fps or its garbage” is in fact garbage it’s self. I can play the game with everything on max and I never notice frame drops, ever. If you are seeing frame drops, you are doing something wrong.

If you cant notice the difference between 30fps and 60fps then I don’t know what to say, other than you are unique.

https://www.quora.com/Why-do-movies-look-smooth-at-24-fps-but-video-games-look-terrible-at-24-fps-Is-it-because-of-motion-blur

Or, I know not to turn my resolution up to max.the only difference I’ve ever noticed with games is the UI size when resolution is involved.

Like I said, if you are noticing frame drops you are doing something wrong.

That means you have things turned up too high for your system. Every system is unique. So no two systems will work the same. But you know this already right?

So its the end users fault that the game engine is single threaded and thus cpu limited? wow!!!!!!! And its their fault when they go to verdant brink that the fps are absolute horrible? wow!!! And its their fault that when even the game is set to the lowest of settings that the fps still identical to the fps at max setting (cpu limited symptom), wow!!!!

Gw2 runs more than fine in an at least Haswell i3 with a gtx 750ti and cpu intensive settings toned down.
There are no excuses, but bad hardware.

Nah it doesn’t. Performance is poor for how the game looks. Look at the performance in the xpacs first zone. Its awful. Then there are things like reflections, why on earth are they being rendered on the cpu?

I respect that blizzard actually upgrades their engine to take advantage of newer hardware. Wow wasn’t always dx11, it use to be dx9 and I think dx8. The engine upgrade gave a big boost in performance as well.

Guild wars 2 will never be balanced. The foundation it was built upon isn’t balanced so anything built on top of it won’t be either. GW2 is destined to always have very extreme shifts aka something is either really good or something is either really bad. No in middle ground.

Un-nerf 20% True Shot Damage Reduction

Aza.2105

A-net can you please return True Shot on Dragon hunter back to its previous damage? – get rid of the 20% nerf, DH was fine where it was before – thanks

Not a valid complaint, they basically put the damage into the bow’s symbol:

True Shot: The damage of this skill has been reduced by 20%.

Symbol of Energy: The damage of this skill has been increased by 25%.

What about Ranked do you enjoy more than Unranked during off-season?

Is it that you prefer climbing a ladder all the time? Or are there other particular reasons.

There is a higher quality of teammates and opponents in ranked than there is in unranked.

TY Anet for making Guard worst class

Aza.2105

Really, I appreciate it that AA on guard is now better dps on at least 3 of our weapons than the skills that have cool downs. I thought guardian was a little too hard to play before. I really needed the decision to use True Shot taken away from me.

Guess we are back to press 1 guild wars. There’s a reason no one is playing guardian outside of the lower tiers. But by all means buff mesmer, ignore CS + moa, and let’s buff eles too.

Stop the crying. Guardian is fine. Traps are basically untouched and that’s where mostly all of guardians damage is coming from. How can you complain about being able to stack traps and potentially 100 to 0 a player?

Not to mention the extraordinary amount of block uptime guards have and invul.

DH traps should of got the cut cause that’s where a lot of the complaints were coming from. Now LB just basically got trashed in usability for other builds that aren’t trappers. The Hunters Ward nerf I can understand and I’m okay with it, I was expecting True Shot to get nerfed by at most 10% or a CD increase, but they completely neutered it and made it worse than beta TS. A rooted, charged up single shot, against projectile hate and Damage Mitigation stacking/Protection, running berserkers amulet on a guard I’ve only been hitting for 2-3k on crit against people with protection. Glass without protection in light armor hits about 5k+ at the most.

Yeah I agree.

I was expecting traps to get a nerf. Not true shot. Anet works in mysterious ways.

After years Anet has finally listened. Skyhammer just might be a good competitive map now.

In regards to skyhammer damage, I don’t think its that bad now. Not too much different than a treb hit. I believe there was a time when you couldn’t even dodge skyhammer hits lol.

Now they should fix spirit watch and raid on Capricorn.
