Lo and behold, the forum goers have done it again…
Fighting for hours, days, even weeks on end.
Running in circles trying to attain that magical and elusive grand prize:

Consensus--This amulet radiates power and hums a low tune. (Special effect: Randomly plays General Lee’s Dixie horn when a player jumps with this item equipped.)

  • +42 Power
  • +42 Precision
  • +42 Toughness
  • +42 Vitality
  • +42 Condition Damage
  • +42 Ferocity
  • +42 Healing Power

AFKers The Plague

If they shortened the afk timer to 1min while inside an active event perimeter, I’d say that would work. Anyone that needs to step away for a drink or nature break could very easily step outside of an event circle before stepping away.

So, I’m going to the bathroom, and I’ll feed the cats in the meantime. Takes me about 5 minutes. During that time, an event spawns around me. And I’m kicked because I happened to be at the wrong place at the wrong time for a second too long.

That is correct.
It is interesting when people equate “getting kicked” with being punished. Its called a character select screen. When you return from being away — simply log back in and continue on your merry way.

if that was only true in SW… I can be in a map that is about 10 minutes away from a breach, get kicked (for whatever reason) and come back in a map that has just finished the vine…

You called my suggestion out specifically. It was reasonable in that people that know they’re stepping away for whatever reason can quickly port or run to a safe location (aka where no events are located) and then step away without being kicked by my suggested 1 min timer. That way their precious map IP is still held for them as long as they’re not afk for an hour or disconnect. So why do you insist on arguing the point?

Or are you attempting to call out an injustice when people don’t return to the very same map IP when they return back into a game, regardless how long they were kicked out? If that is what you’re talking about, then there are solutions in place for that. Join a party while farming so when you log back in you already have people anchoring the map for you (as long as its not hard capped). Or pull up your map chat history and try to join on someone else that was there.

If that happens to you and the map ends up hard capped, all I can say is that its unfortunate…. but its still a good system, overall. This is not an offline game. When you disconnect there can be no admin address to that particular map when you go off: “All players FREEZE. LadyRhonwyn has disconnected. The map has been locked so none of you can leave, event progress has been halted, and none of your comrades may join until she returns. Thank you for understanding.”

Life goes on.
Open world PvE also goes on.

All those people in this thread, giving the same block-ignore, ‘bad egg’ advice.

I bet if they spent 4hrs or whatever on some farm, receiving little, and then some person passes by and flukes a big drop and links it, i bet a few curse words would hit the air at least.

I’m not saying it’s the correct response. But anyway, it happens that all the people who would experience that initial emotional reaction aren’t to be found on this forum. Which is nice of course.

My guild runs a WBT for a couple hours each night and we have had many precursors drop over the last 2 years. A few of those drops hit players that were new to the game, had just joined us, or they were very infrequent attendees. Did I get angry or jealous when it happened? Not at all. I just don’t place as much value in the possessions found in this game.

Just because you can’t wrap your mind around how other types of players behave in this game — doesn’t mean its false when they behave differently than you do.

WBT = world boss timer events i take it? Invalid comparison, same with someone fluking a great drop during a dungeon run. An event to which we all say gtz, especially if it is a guildmate. There’s a big difference. And that’s a difference i can definitely wrap my poor little head around. Can you also?

Apologies if I insulted you. I could argue, however, how your resulting attitude is a prime example of why you believe everyone would respond in kind under that situation.

In response to the comparison — a farm is a farm. WBT, maize, Silverwastes, champ trains, dungeons, etc etc. We throw many hours into all of them and if someone that doesn’t suddenly appears and walks away with a grand item? Its all the same regardless of which farm it was. My reaction to such a lucky drop is also always the same. I’m happy for them.

When I see gold sellers I always tell them to go kitten themselves first, then I /report and /block.

When reckless zerglets get leveled during fights that should be easy to stay alive, I no longer revive them. I’m done with helping taggers get their rewards when they have not a single shred of common sense. Instead I dream of ways I can steal from them when they’re down or drag their bodies to the edge of a nearby cliff.

I would prefer some kind of trinity system over the DPSfest that we currently have.

I once followed a WvW commander, along with 60+ other players, off of a high cliff. It was way too high even for those of us traited for fall damage. Everyone died in one nice pile. Made more embarrassing when an enemy roaming group was right there to see the whole thing go down.

I have spent way too much time playing this game. Like…. way too much.

When farming in the Silverwastes, I tag events and move on without helping to complete them. * grimace * Yes. I’m guilty of that.

On several occasions I have arrived at Megadestroyer by base jumping… without a chute.

Just to play the devil’s advocate here, but maize farm groups tend to farm naked because they want to give everyone in the group a chance to tag for credit and get loot; sometimes there are people like

You should have stayed and trolled the maize farm and messed it up for them. blocking anyone who whispered or complained.

who roll by in full gear and troll for whatever reason you’re not aware of, so there’s probably a fair bit of accumulated saltiness even before you arrive. If people perceive you as denying them loot and getting something awesome in the process, they’re going to go from annoyed to toxic really quickly.

This isn’t to defend their attitudes, mind you, but it’s probably equally toxic to instantly vilify people without trying to understand why they’re being jerks in that brief minute of their lives you happened to encounter them at.

I was responding to the OP. To simplify it for you, the OP should have trolled the farm because those farmers were abusive to him and his gf.

There is only a chance to get some from Herb nodes in Ascalon. The best odds are in Plains of Ashford as the Herb Seedling has the smallest drop table of 5. The higher level herb nodes have as many as 10 possible drops.

And the NPE removed a bunch of nodes from Plains of Ashford, because it might confuse new players. So the best map to get them got nerfed.

Yeah. I really wish they’d not done that. I used to farm them in PoA. Sadly the NPE means new players could hurt themselves if they use gathering tools, so they had to be pulled.

Anet did NOT say “the game has NO grind at all” they know there is ( they made the game. lol) however, they said you don’t have to do it.

I did not read the whole thing but here are my thoughts on this topic in general:
the reason they took WvW map completion from the 100% world completion is because many servers are stuck vs way stronger servers, and never get a chance to do the WvW map completion, so that’s not something they are changing about the ‘Grind’ in the game rather its a fix for a problem.

take away the grind and make the game grind free!, everyone get dungeon master because they played the dungeon once and just for playing the game for 100 hours lets give you a legendary(that a grind for hours though) and lets not reward players who played the game days in and days out and invested many hours of game play and make em just like everyone who played the game for 3 days and quit, no more special skins for fractal grinders who played them for 100’s of hours to get that lame underwater skin that no one ever see and make it once you play an underwater fractal you automatically get the skin, and once you finish all fractals you get the fractal tonic that only a hand full of players have ATM, and once you kill a player in WvW you get the “ultimate dominator” title and kill a player in PvP and get dragon rank and finisher, I think you know where im going with this.
if you don’t want a ‘grind’ in a game maybe you should be playing a single player game not an MMORPG

I agree here. So many players are quick to complain about “grind”, its many interpretations, yet very few are taking a moment to think about what a game with no grind at all would be like. We would play it for a few days and then walk away from it. There would be nothing keeping us there.

Thankfully the grind in this game is entirely optional — whether people accept that or not.

Technically, they could. They could decrease the afk timer to a ridiculously low number, like in activities. of course, this would cause rage storms from all the people that just needed to go to the loo in a 1 hour SW…

It’s choosing between two evils, and it’s only to question which evil has the better pay-off.

If they shortened the afk timer to 1min while inside an active event perimeter, I’d say that would work. Anyone that needs to step away for a drink or nature break could very easily step outside of an event circle before stepping away.

Does it really matter if someone outbids you by 1 copper, 1 silver, or 1 gold? I believe the real frustration isn’t the amount but the fact that you are outbid in general. Which sucks but is no reason to change the market.

If you want instant gratification then buy something that is on sale.
If you’re trying to save money by ordering instead — then you run the risk of being outbid. People are free to do so just as much as you are when you make a bid.

Well, defrauding other players is. Compare with scammers who trick people out of valuable items. While the items don’t get restored, the scammers get banned or at least punished.

Not only does someone with that much AP have much better legit ways to make money, s/he clearly knew s/he was scamming based on the comment to OP about it only needing to “work” on some people.

Oh yes. I know the stance on scammers. I just don’t believe beggars fall into that category. Regardless of their AP status or not, nobody that gives money to any of them is fooled in such a way that they believe they’re getting their money back in any way… right? If its a new player that is too lazy to play the game or if its a veteran that is just getting some giggles out of it, the giver will be down the same amount of money that they want to hand out.

Perhaps I’ll never understand why beggars should be banned in this game.

Charr Posture???

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Azhure.1857

Azhure.1857

Ummm…what? Do you understand how mammalian anatomy works?

The hunched posture is necessary for a species that both runs on all fours and bipedally. Their bipedal stance allows them to manipulate tools and everything else, but their skull can’t mount on the neck in two different manners (for bipedal and quadrupedal stances). If you don’t believe me, lower yourself onto all fours and look straight ahead or even up. While moving. You will probably hurt yourself. This is why the charr spine inserts into the skull at the back instead of the bottom like with humans. Because it inserts in this manner, their bipedal stance needs to accommodate it, hence the hunched posture.

If anything, the charr posture makes them much more beastial than any other “beast” race in a game.

+1
Well said.
I like the charr just the way they are. Sadly there will always be those players that just want a human model covered in fur, with a tail, and cat ears. Meh.

We know that some of you are anticipating a new build for Guild Wars 2 on March 10th. We wanted to give you a heads up that the game update is coming, but it will not be going out on March 10th. At the present time, contents of the build is undergoing additional QA Testing. If we get more information about an anticipated timeframe for the build’s release we’ll try to provide that info in advance. But of course as always, we will update in the forums with detailed update notes when the build goes live.

Thanks for your patience.

Heya,

Is there any sort of time frame for when? Like, this week, next week, next month?

Thx Gaile =D

As an IT professional, I always get a kick out of this question.
The answer is always “It’ll be ready when it is ready”.
It’s not baking where you put it in the over for exactly 30 minutes and it comes out golden :P

I am an IT professional as well and asking for a precise exact time is not really what I was asking about, which is why I used larger units of measurement. Notice the usage of the words ‘time-frame’, ‘week’, and ‘month’, not day, hour, minute or second.

The question still stands.

I understand the desire to know…
But does it REALLY matter? I mean besides wanting to know the date so a select few can plan ahead and take off from work? * looks at SyncOnari *
We know its coming soon — isn’t that enough? (This is not just directed at you but everyone that is asking or downright demanding more information on this.)

Yes. It already has improved as far as the wings go.
However I would still like to have the ability to turn off backpacks on other players. I’ve wanted it ever since they released the Job-o-tron backpack. I can’t stand it. The problem is that you are not a new player.

Completely new players that have not been “poisoned” with talks about how much the new system sucks seems to have no problems whatsoever with the new system.

How exactly do you know, lordkrall, without having engaged in similar talks with said new players? I’m oh so curious.

Even without the numerous posts by actual new players (though they mostly get lost in the flood of posts by vets), it’s simply a matter of common sense. If someone convinces you to play something, and then as soon as you actually start playing, they constantly complain and tell you how absolutely terrible everything is, then of course you’re going to get a negative impression of the game.

It’s quite hard to do, but one of the most important things when introducing someone to a new game is to let them experience it themselves. Be on hand to provide advice and tips if asked, but always let the new player take the lead. Let them discover the game themselves.

Oh I agree that new players experiencing the game for the first time can be affected by negativity and their view may or may not change as a result.

I was taking issue with Lordkrall’s all encompassing statement about new players and how they “have no problems whatsoever” unless they’ve been corrupted by veteran disapproval. That it is only possible for new players to dislike the NPE if they’ve been warped by our attitude towards it and not their own.

No, main selling point is to show your cosmetics to other people. If they can turn it off at will, why bother buying it?

The very same question I’d expect a troll that buys musical instruments to have just so they can have their giggles at the expense of other players.

No need and it would be incredibly confusing. Follow that blue commander! No wait its sapphire. Or is it winter ice? Possibly cobalt.

Give us 4 different shapes instead and you quadruple the amount of options while still keeping it simple.

Give them an inch and they’ll take a mile.
