After skimming the thread, I’ve come to the conclusion that if I decide to open steam ogre’s room exactly 20-21 minutes before fire elemental, thus depriving azhure’s guild an ogre spawn in favor of generating one in time for the world train to arrive, I’m fully within my rights, I’m not trolling, and azhure can suck it up. Sound about right? Anyone see something wrong with that?
Yes. That is entirely within your rights. However I would question your intent, if it were only to try and spite me. Also know that it is incredibly easy for me and mine to reroll a new FE map that has an Ogre chamber not on cooldown.
To recap, the reason people were mad isn’t because they missed out on a minor Champ Bag. The main problem here is that trolls ruined the pattern of the run. Because of this, I haven’t touched the Steam Ogre in a while. I heard it was bugged, so I stopped going to FE. But now that I know why it was “bugged”, I’m upset, purely in principle.
But trolls are everywhere. In WvW claiming Keeps with 0 buffs in a small guild. Undercutting my prices on the TP. And purposely ruining PvE trains. I’ve learned to live with it, but that doesn’t mean I’m not allowed to be upset at some people don’t understand the logic of how a train operates.
Constantly referring to Azhure as a troll, you apportion malice to their purpose of doing Ogre. By their very opening post, they have said they announce their intent in map to do the event. They’ve gone to the trouble of preparing a key and announcing it. How can any malice be attributed to them and their guild?
What you seem to miss is that the train is not convenient for all players. Azhure and their guild have their own “train”. Should an entire guild be inconvenienced simply because their train schedule is different? Is their train any less logical?
The malice is from the fact that he says he doesn’t care that everyone else wants to do the Steam Ogre after the FE. Purposely doing it to make others mad is bad form. If he did it, apologized to everyone, and promised not to ruin the train again, then I would be more forgiving.
I don’t recall stating that I “don’t care” or that I’m doing this to intentionally “make others mad”. Where do you get off saying so?
EDIT: I do care. If I didn’t then I wouldn’t be bothered by the heat I take for opening Ogre beforehand and if I didn’t care… then I wouldn’t bother announcing in map chat that we’re opening Ogre in advance.

As to the timing, did you actually READ the OP, I took it as 3 minures PRE, as in 3 minutes before the pre chain starts, when NOTHING is happening and half of the megaserver is portalling on to the top FE platform to kitten and tweet “im abot to kill FE 4 279th time #yoloswag420”, not during the pre. And even if, the pre escort is EASY. I’ve solo’d it on a really lazy megaserver, including the champ that can scale at the bridge which has about as much HP as a common firefly.
Ah. I should clarify further. Its not that early. The 3 minute mark is during the final pre event inside the main chamber. The only people that get on the map that early are one of our scouts, so we can anchor a map that has an Ogre not on cooldown (if possible).
Should also be noted again that if there isn’t enough time between when we get the whole guild on that map shard and the normal time we call out a warning – then we don’t do Ogre beforehand. If there isn’t anything rushing us away ASAP after FE then we’ll do Ogre afterwards — often times we just leave it undone and move on to more important things.

It’s not about the 1 single Champ Bag that we’re missing. It’s the fact that a group of people are purposely ruining the train. And no, this isn’t the same was the Frost Gorge train. Champ bosses respawn every few minutes while you’re on the same map. Bosses spawn every 2 – 3 hours, on different maps. If my zerg is at FE, and we can’t do the Steam Ogre, we move to the next boss. By going back when the Steam Ogre timer is up, that ruins the Boss train. OP seems to understand this, and doesn’t care. Ergo intentional griefing.
Again, players are Entitled to play how they want, but they’re not Entitled to ruining the game for others.
I’m afraid your judgment has become clouded on this issue and you’re unwilling or unable to see it for what it is. * shrugs * You repeatedly use the word “ruin”…. do you know what that means? Its not fitting in this case. Not by a longshot. Steam Ogre is not a World Boss, its just an extra champion (chump change). Getting it or not has no large effect on anyone’s overall WBT.
Goodness, if and when I miss World Bosses I don’t feel my train has been ruined. Believe it or not I do miss many of those bosses every night. Why? Because I’m a scout for my guild and I enjoy finding the other T2 bosses and Temples — so that my guild can run smoothly from one event to another. It makes me happy to do that and I don’t care if I miss a good third, or more, of the bosses in order to do that for them. Does that mean you should be happy with much lower levels of loot than your peers? No. Everybody is different. But perhaps you should relax a little and not let one missing champ bag bring you down… or “ruin” your train.
Also it is entirely possible for you to return for SO later if you so wished, in between the other bosses on ArenaNet’s world boss timer. Yes, it really is. My guild fits in Lyssa, Dwayna, Eye, Balthazar, Melandru, Arah, Grenth, Dredge Commisar, Foulbear, Fire Shaman, and Rhend in between all the scheduled bosses. We get it done.
Considering that it takes 30-40 seconds to kill the ogre after FE, the “we have other stuff to do” reason doesn’t make sense. I fully understand your reasons and I think you’re in the right, but if the price to pay for not being raged at is 30 seconds then you might want to consider it.
You’d be surprised how much difference 30 seconds can make in my guild’s nightly WBT. There are times when we barely get everyone in on some events, even when we try our best to time things properly. You’re welcome to come along and see what we do, if you like, then perhaps you’ll understand how busy we can be.
@ Azure Fang, Crimson, and everyone else with a clear head on their shoulders: Thank you. Because of you guys/girls — I will continue to warn in map chat so that everyone available can join in if they choose to, regardless of the toxic backlash I may receive for doing so. Happy looting.
The simplest fix is to just remove the timer from the Steam ogre.
That would make it possible to have lots of people get lots of keys, then farm the ogre until all the keys are gone. Rinse and repeat.
After nerfing the champ trains, I doubt this timer will be removed.
Best fix I’ve heard is to have Ogre’s event timer reset after the Fire Elemental has been defeated, regardless if Ogre was done before FE or not. However I think it should also be paired with a daily timer for the players too, to prevent players from getting the same champion before and after FE. It would be a way of pleasing all parties involved in this conflict and wouldn’t break the event for anyone else (like the one suggestion of changing it to where Ogre can only ever be done after FE).
This is why we will never be granted an option for reporting griefers in this game, there would be far too many people misusing it.
OOOOOOOH! My turn! My turn!
- I work as a Data Protection Adviser
- This thread is freaking me out
Did I do it right?
Okay… that set me off into a fit of giggles. Thank you for that.
Kind of curious OP, how many guildies, on average, do you muster for this event?
Its difficult to tell exactly, as not all of our members are representing the guild during train (which makes it more difficult to hear callouts in guild chat, obviously, so they tend to party up with someone that is). I would say 30+ on average, every night. We also work in conjunction with another guild. With the amount of scouting that we do — we usually hit a good 20 “world” bosses within a 2 hour timeframe each night. It can be crazy at times but we do the best we can.
That’s the thing – I don’t deserve the abusive messages.
Actually, you’re the one inviting it because you admit to not caring what the rest of the map thinks. If you don’t like people getting mad at you, stop doing the things that make people mad in the first place.
Lets be clear here.
NOBODY deserves to be abused in this game. Nobody. You can disagree with someone’s behavior or their actions, you can even be angry, but there is no justification for being abusive.
@ Red Queen
Thank you.
I don’t think conformity is really the issue (tho, I get that sheep will be sheep). There ARE Events going on prior to FE that players will miss out on due to doing the Ogre event with you. If they can do the Ogre event AFTER, they get MAXIMUM rewards. Do you not see that your actions ARE counter productive to the greater good (as stupid as that sounds saying about a game)?
There are those of us that only care for ourselves, those of us that care for a group, and those of us that care for everyone. For better or worse I’m the type that cares for my group above all else. HOWEVER I do warn in map chat, so that everyone present has the option of joining in if they so wished.
As far as trains go and the greater good? No. There isn’t much difference between what is going on here with FE/Ogre than there ever was with someone killing a champ out of order in Queensdale or Frostgorge. People feel so entitled to their train and their order that anyone that doesn’t fall in line must be treated with contempt. How awful is that and why should I respect them for it?
Exactly WHY is showing up 5 or 10 minutes later (if all you want is the FE kill) and then doing the Ogre with the entire map, not possible for you?
Sometimes it is. There are times when we get to Metrica Province too late and calling Ogre out would be unreasonable – knowing that not everyone would be able to make it. So we wait until after. However many times we have another Temple/Boss in waiting that we must rush to ASAP. We may have a scout on an active Foulbear map going into Stravig phase or a Lyssa at 50%. Haste is required in those cases. So its better for us to be done ASAP.
Irregardless of how I, you or anyone feels about the “rightness” of what you are doing, you will NOT stop the hating by posting this here….you can only stop the hating by not doing what you are being hated for.
Oh I wasn’t expecting this thread to stop the abuse I receive for my actions here. How could it when only a fraction of players even view the forums? No… I just had to get it off my chest, you know? But I disagree to your statement on only stopping the hate by not doing what I’m being hated for… I could also stop warning in map chat.
However I don’t think I’ll do that…. because THAT would be selfish.
EDIT: I 100% agree that abusive messages and mail are childish and in no way productive (or needed) but you are talking about a bunch of people that are playing a video game…..not sure what you expect, so grow some thick skin if you plan to do something to PO them (whether or not you think it should upset them or not).
That’s the thing – I don’t deserve the abusive messages. Yet the more I receive the easier it is for me to view the masses as being a collective PITA. I know they’re not… but still. Do you know that not a single person has ever asked nicely that Ogre be done after FE? In all the time that we’ve done it this way? Not one.
I’d say the real issue is some sort of unwritten common understanding that the Ogre Event gets done AFTER FE is killed (since there are tons of people that just completed FE available to do it).
The OPs Guild deciding to do it BEFORE FE does not follow the above convention and that is why the other players are upset. While this post seems like a reasonable explanation from the OP, he must understand that many of the upset players will simply see it as a middle finger gesture (even tho, I am convinced it is not), so I doubt it will server the purpose he intends.
If you continue to do the Event “out of order”, you will continue to be harassed and get nasty mails…..just accept it.
Thank you for being reasonable, Brother Grimm, even if you don’t agree with the what and why of this situation. I’ve never been a believer of doing things in order and I don’t think I ever will. :/
I grow increasingly tired of taking all this heat in game, mirrored again by some forum posters here. If you knew half the crap I’ve had to listen to when I’m warning people in map chat…. Meh. But the message I seem to be getting here in this thread is “You’re selfish and you need to conform.”
You are selfishly blocking a considerably larger group of players from doing one event by asking them choose between your event or theirs. Sure you can probably get back and do enough damage to get the FE rewards but instead of getting 3 exotic chests by doing FE and then Ogre, is to choose between one exotic chest and maybe if they get back in time 2 more if you do Ogre then FE within the 5 minute timer.
Do you even know what you’re talking about here? None of our guild ever loads so slowly that they miss out on FE after doing Ogre beforehand. He melts that quickly. We even have time to get back to the FE chamber and pop a Heroes banner for everyone to grab. If your connection is that slow then getting one extra chest is the least of your concerns.
Yes it’s your right to open it anytime you have a charged key but without announcing that it’s opening now for all and keeping it to yourself is, well selfish in a game where co-op play is the underlying theme in PvE.
So if you are going to open it, declare in map chat that you are doing it and all are invited and do it before the pre-event starts because some players do those events and not just stand around waiting for FE to spawn taking pot shots at any thing that happens to come close during the pre-events.
We do warn in map chat, as I’ve already said. We don’t open it during escort either, only during the time when everyone is standing around 5min before the actual spawn and please don’t say that they’re all actually doing something in there. Also Ogre melts so incredibly fast that we destroy it and are back to the FE chamber within the same minute. There is no risk of failure.
Bottom line is that I’m in this game to help my friends and my guild. I don’t have to warn in map chat but I do because it is the nice thing to do. With that said… I’m not here to serve the masses just “because its tradition”.
What are the people angry about? It would help us to understand the problem if we knew their objections.
I’m guessing that they are angry because they arrived on the map after the Ogre was killed and are expecting the Ogre to be available to be killed and it isn’t.
Actually the anger and hate is expressed during the time that we’re warning in map chat that we’re about to open Ogre. Usually we state the warning when the final 5min timer starts and open it at the 3 minute mark. Its people that are already on the map but feel it is their right, even if they didn’t find and charge a key, to expect key holders to open it only after FE.
Event: Defeat the misplaced Steam Ogre
Location: Thaumanova Reactor in Metrica Province
Prerequisite: Matrix Cube Key (fully charged)
Cooldown: 20 minutes
Okay, there is something I have to say concerning this event. After putting the effort into finding these keys and charging them, I can open the ogre chamber whenever its available to me. I don’t have to wait until after Fire Elemental (WBT) before I open it. After hearing people scream at me, send me hate mail, try to get me reported for trolling and/or griefing… I find it increasingly difficult to continue being nice about it.
Let me clarify a bit on what is happening.
My guild runs a WBT every night (except holidays and patch days) and when we call everyone over to FE — we usually like to do Steam Ogre beforehand. Why? Two main reasons: 1) Actively doing something is better than standing around in the FE chamber waiting for it to spawn and 2) Normally we have other places to be. Remember that outside of the horrible World Boss Schedule there are Temples and other T2 world bosses that aren’t on a schedule. We have scouts and preppers out calling them when available. So when we’re at FE we normally do Ogre>FE>T2/Temple>Shatterer (roughly).
Where is the conflict? When we are in the process of pulling all of our guild members onto the same map shard we warn in Map chat that we’re opening Ogre before FE. Usually the 3 minute mark. Unfortunately the amount of hate we’re getting for it is starting to wear on me. I don’t have to warn in map chat – please remember that – but I do because it is the considerate thing to do. We’re perfectly capable of opening the chamber without saying a word. But, again, the hate is starting to wear on me.
For any of you reading this that have sent me hateful messages and the like:
- Reporting me will do nothing because I’m not doing anything wrong or worthy of a report.
- Blocking me doesn’t bother me but may cause you to miss a future Ogre call out.
- Outwardly expressing your anger at me may end up causing me to report you, depending on the vulgarity used.
So to everyone reading this…
Please pay attention to map chat and be kind to those around you.
Was thinking that I would like a few tri-color fur patterns for Charr characters. As I don’t foresee Anet designing a second fur pattern option to do this — I thought maybe they could release a few patterns that have a set third color pattern in black or white.
I represent my current guild 100% because I love the people there and I don’t feel the need to split my time among others. However I am so strongly opposed to the idea of a 100% rep requirement that I’ve already informed my guild leader in the past that I would leave our guild the moment she ever decided to implement and enforce such a thing.
Personally I believe a great guild should motivate and encourage its players to represent in their roster… not DEMAND it.
If I had to guess, I would say there will be another discount for GW2 around that time. I doubt they’ll tell you that now because it would cut down on potential profit between now and then. But I just can’t imagine them not offering another good discount for the game so they can pull in as many new customers as possible.
Just my two cents.
Good and bad is relative. So from my perspective — Yes, its just you.
A forum thread where nobody is arguing and/or knocking down what other posters have to say? Nice.
- Age/Gender: 31 / Female
- Profession: Dog Trainer
- My favorite color is Blue and it shows in all my main characters – big blue charrs.
- Guild Wars and GW2 are the main forms of gaming that I’ve
wastedspent my time engaging in but I’m also known for my FPS (console) skills. - Outside of gaming my passions include dog training, reading, cooking, and long distance backpacking.
- Currently planning and saving up to build my own tiny house.
- I’m a minimalist. My current residence looks like someone that is in the process of moving in, minus the boxes scattered about that could be associated with that image, but I’ve lived here for years now and you wouldn’t know it if you walked in. Wouldn’t have it any other way. More possessions equals more worries, less money, more things to clean, and a false sense of worth.
- I love Italian and Mexican foods but I’m not picky either. Love to try new things. Even have a list of things that I would like to try sometime in the future…. things like turtle, alligator, and snake.
- Have a 4y Choc. Labrador Retriever named Gryphon.
- Movie/tv show genres that I like include Action and Comedy. I hate Horror as there is already enough horror in this life and I don’t need that kind of “thrill”.
- I dream of being involved in a Canine SAR team. It combines my love of dog training, SAR, and the outdoors. But unfortunately its almost all volunteer and I don’t have the ability to commit to that at present. Some day.

Stealth is OP in this game but I doubt it’ll ever be fixed, for the amount of opposition against it being balanced is high. I despise Stealth, as it is now, mainly because it has no direct counter.
Epic levels of laziness in players has resulted in them asking for balance to be thrown out the window in favor of convenience. * pets thread *
I agree.
There have been times when I’ve stopped to listen to a nice harp player and along comes another person with a horn just to spam over the first musician. Wish I could mute the troll alone and continue enjoying the harp music.
Report them for what, exactly? I know of the spam you’re talking about, and I understand its annoying at times, but how can you tell the difference between someone that is troll spamming vs. someone that may just be trying for a good screenshot?
I remember when I was trying to get a Charr Selfie screenshot for an older thread I ended up having to spam /point a lot before I felt satisfied.
As Crimson Clouds has already said – you can lower/mute player instrument volume in the Options window.
However I enjoy many musicians in game. I just wish I could mute specific people and not everyone all in one go… like the occasional troll.
April Fool’s Day 2015:
Shatterer turns his head to face AFK rock.
I doubt they will tell you in advance. It would lower potential sales between now and the next sale — not exactly something ArenaNet would like.
I will be creating a Revenant as soon as possible (new main incoming). Rit was my main in GW1 and this is as close as I am going to get to my loved profession. I have been wanting this for the last 2 1/2 years.
I’m right there with Icy Death. Ritualist was my main for many years and I’ve wanted it back for a long time. Revenant is looking like a close second for me. While I’ve loved playing Guardian as my main for this long… something tells me Revenant will replace it.
Yay…. Another dress for my charr characters. JUST what I needed. /sarcasm
New fur patterns and horns for charrs. Would also like the ability to use all hair colors on the fur patterns (though I doubt that will happen because we’ll likely see blue and pink furries running around everywhere..).
I’ve asked a couple of times in this thread, but no one has yet explained any connection between rainbows/unicorns/flowers and gender.
The only connection is the one we make for ourselves.
Had the OP not made this a gender issue and instead just asked for more serious bow skins, I would have supported it.
I’m disappointed.
I thought OP was going to ask for a Legendary bow with Legendary male parts on it.
(Sadly leaves thread).
There’s a solution! Just strap a set of truck nuts on the legendary bows.
Goodness. While I don’t particularly like that Heart quest, I’m against simply removing it because it is challenging. I’m tired of this game being tuned down. * sigh *
Aren’t you boys just adorable with your gender issues.
I think there is a common misconception here – Having a goal to work toward is not the same as grinding.
Grinding involves doing the same thing over and over past the point we find that thing fun. We dont know what masteries will involve specifically, so we cannot say that we will be repeating mundane tasks we dont enjoy over and over for them.
If they take all goals out of the game, we arent really left with a game. Again, working toward a goal does not mean the same thing as grinding.
Too true, Blaeys. Unfortunately it still falls short with a lot of people because they desire instant gratification. Whether its an in game goal or something else — there are usually a few predictable reactions along the way.
- Those that enjoy the journey.
- Those that dislike what they’re doing but want to meet that goal so badly that they trudge along.
- Those that rage and/or quit.
I’m afraid that will always be a constant.
You “WANT” the best stats you don’t “NEED” them to play in over 99% of the games content.
True. But I highly doubt you’ll convince the OP of this. People like that do not accept the differences between needs and wants in this game. By labeling something a “need” when it is not, they make themselves a victim of “the system”. Why? Because then all the grind that they “must” endure isn’t their own fault — but that of ArenaNet.
3,024 hours

This is all I have to offer after reading through this thread.
You don’t know exactly what is coming in the expansion, yet you’re determined to rage against it based on your perception of future grind.
Meh…

I’m not a fan of free armor repairs because it feels like it reduces the impact of deaths from combat. From what I’ve experienced, free armor repair also renders repair canisters relatively useless in most situations outside of fractals and even then, it’s possible to “game” it by exiting and reentering.
I am also not a fan of free armor repairs.
Armor repair costs were great “back in the early days” of GW2 because it was some kind of penalty for dying. The little it cost was actually something noticeable back in those days because every silver piece was precious to us back then. Yet now in the days when that same cost would be a joke in comparison — we don’t even have it anymore. Its been made free. WORSE still — there are people crying over having to talk to an NPC to get it fixed for FREE.
Why would you support having your time wasted?
A question asked of people that spend hundreds and thousands of hours playing a video game.
It’s perfectly fine for Faren to walk around in a speedo, but we the players are not allowed to even show our feet.
Sure you are — Just take off your boots.
I like the idea. (Even with all the anti-dueling people around.)
Personally I think it would be nice if each city had its own unique attraction.
Black Citadel – Dueling (they already have a fighting pit in place with stadium seating)
Rata Sum – Polymock
Lion’s Arch – Moa Racing
Hoelbrak – Brass Knuckle Tournament (A combo of Dwarven boxing and the old Norn Fighting Tournament.)
The Grove – Glider Races (The potential is there as its a somewhat vertical map in itself.)
Divinity’s Reach – Queen’s Gauntlet
Just an idea. Give each city something to pull the masses in to either engage in, gamble on, and/or spectate.
not like i care much about the topic…but isnt female armor already 90% underwear?
No. It’s not.
If everything was toggle-able, then you’d see a lot of players simply running around in their underwear all the time, even in combat. I doubt you’d get much more immersion breaking than that.
This is a fear of mine. Would hate to see it.
Some people love 24 hours of ANYTHING different. It’s a hoot as well as a break from the routine. Other people immediately come to the forums and vent their rage at being forced to participate in something so childish. (The nerve of this company!)
ANet did a nice thing last year in giving the players the ability to relive their Bobbleheadedness anytime with a Gem Store purchase.
I would suggest this year that they also address the haters, since their voices tend to ruin the fun for the rest of us. Mail everyone a “Happy April Fool’s Day” letter when they log in. It would do two things: First it would answer all those people who log in and ask “Why is my character a Skritt?” Second, it could point out an April Fool’s Day NPC that they can visit to opt in/opt out of the festivities. Everyone wins.
THANK YOU for starting up this topic. Hopefully they’ll have time enough to implement some suggestions.
Concerning the Bobblehead prank. It made me physically sick and I wasn’t able to play that entire day because of it. So please think of that before you label all of us “haters”.
Mesmers do not need hammers.
Turn everyone into child form. I would love to see some of my charr characters in cub form. xD
Though I have no idea how they’d do that for Sylvari characters. >.>
It is pretty small from what they’ve shown so far though.
I have to agree here. Hopefully they surprise me further in the next several months with more information and I’m mistaken in my belief that it all seems too small. Right now, even with them announcing an “expansion”, I find it all very lackluster. * sigh *
That’s only because you assume upfront it will be lackluster. There was absolutely nothing in that preview that said “it will be small”. Most of it comes from people that heard “new area (heart of maguuma)”, and thought “one zone”, which was, from context, a complete misread of the meaning (and has been explicitly debunked by further interviews).
Good for you, Astral. You pointed out that I’m assuming something when I share my opinion on something I have very little information on to begin with. * slow clap * Well done. You’re also assuming what my own definition of “too small” is. Amazing how we do that, huh?
