Don’t cross the beams!
Okay that made me smile….
Until I remembered that the Ghostbusters reboot that’s coming out soon will be all female instead. * sigh *
They can sell their product for however long they wish to and they need not explain themselves in regards to their gemstore. There were many “promises” made and expectations had when we purchased this game, and as far as my memory serves me, control over the gemstore was not one of them.
That’s a bit of a inflexible. At the core you’re right, although I do feel that player are still entitled to provide feedback. ANet doesn’t have to listen of course, but I like to think they do and although we often get not so great feedback every now and then there’s something nice or novel.
Oh I have no doubt they’re listening now.
As others have listed, across several threads on this issue, there are advantages to hosting short term sales. There isn’t enough backlash from the community, yet, for them to backpedal on this new marketing stance.
Were you around when they decided it would be a brilliant idea if they flashed gemshop advertisements in bold yellow text IN GAME across the center of the screen? They listened then when the community raged at them for it and as a result I’ve not seen them do it again since. So — they listen. Until we give them reason to change their stance on this issue, I don’t see them changing. Because guess what? People ARE buying in mass on these one day items. If you could get the community as a whole to go on a gemstore strike of some sort, that may sway them, but I don’t see that level of cooperation among players ever happening.
… how about adding capes to all races except charr, until a solution for charr is ready? just a thought.
While the charr especially have been hit with the designer’s ugly stick over the last few years, it would be a major blow to all that favor that race over the others if they released such a high demand item to all the other races but not their own. Remember that choosing one race should not have any more advantages or disadvantages as any other race. True, this wouldn’t be a disadvantage as far as gameplay goes, but it would still be damaging to those that care enough.
I’m confused as to why most of you feel it is the charr alone that hampers the development of a cape or cloak. If we went by GW1 standards of “capes”, then the charr tail would be a non issue as those “capes” were nothing but glorified strips of cloth with a guild logo — ending at the waist.
If a full cloak is what you’re asking for instead — there would be clipping issues all over the board and not just with charr posture and tails. How do you propose stowed weapons lay under or over a cloak effectively across all the races? Or should a full cloak just magically make them vanish when stowed like many helms do for charr horns? What about in motion? In combat? Backpacks?
But sure, go ahead and blame the charr for what good it will do you, I don’t care one way or another. Either ArenaNet will decide to try for it or they won’t. While I have guildmates that would like to see a cape again — It’s no loss off my back if they’re not implemented.

Leave my tail out of this. >_>
I understand wanting new races to play around with….
But this idea seems so horribly cheap. For that reason, I’m not supporting this.
Okay…
I think this thread now deserves a gif or picture of someone flagellating a deceased equine. Anyone have one handy?
Of course they could go back to making it unallowed if they added ABC file support. Even better if they add a visual to let people who the different between a live player and a file player.
Why does this matter to you so much?
If you want to go that far, why don’t you just start demanding there be additional indicators for things like —
- What gender the player truly is… “That chick isn’t actually a chick? They’re lying to us? * gasp * No way! I demand ArenaNet put a stop to this.”
- How old they are…
- How they earn their $ in game…
…..and so on and so forth.
Why are we drawing lines in the sand in what is supposed to be a game?
The Legend from an embroidered purse….. who would have thought something so large could be found in something so tiny?
I applaud you for playing well on your own. I respect and enjoy players such as yourself. However I enjoy listening to macro users as well…. minus the respect given to a natural player. Its nice to curl up and take a break sometimes — just to listen.
Congrats, Gunga Din — you did well!
When someone wins big while gambling, why do we say, “you did well”? What exactly did they do? Its not like the next person that buys the same amount of dye packs and gets next to nothing did any more or less than the first one. I just don’t fully understand the praise for successful gambling.
@ OP
That’s a nice assortment of dyes. Hope you got all the dyes you wanted.
Pretty sure somebody already made something like this before, but oh well. I’m missing my dapper tuxedo.
Pimptastic!
You’ve never seen Holy Grail? It’s been made into a musical for crying out loud. Sure that seen isn’t in it but it’s THE classic, most quotable Monty Python movie ever.
“It’s only a model” “They call me Tim” “African or European?” “I’m not dead yet” “Three shall be the number thou shalt count, and the number of the counting shall be three” “Huge … tracts of land” “She turned me into a newt” “They ate Robin’s minstrels”
Where have you been man?
Makes me feel old that there are people that don’t know Monty Python. Not a feeling I’m used to… yet.
What Ashen said.
We Charr don’t tolerate World Bosses on our front lawn.
However you can find Rhend, Foulbear, Shatterer, and Fire Shaman farther out….. That’s not so bad and I don’t think you can say the other racial territories have that many.
(edited by Azhure.1857)
Charr already have the majority of the “cute” emotes. Not that I’m against your suggestion, as I’m sure I’d use it often, but there are so many emotes that never made it from GW1 that I would love to see back in the game beforehand.
@ ArenaNet
Thank you for fixing Guild chat.
My fallen warrior, Zoa Abysswalker, and his companion, the cat of darkness.
Just a suggestion…
But if you have a very dark character, maybe taking pictures in an equally dark environment is not the best idea if you’re trying to show other people your armor setup?
Just saying….
I think people who play other genders are creeps (unless it’s a game where you have no choice. Then it’s fine. Or if you get some bonus out of it like in Fire Emblem)
It’s rather hard to take you serious, what kind of ignorant remark is that?
Please don’t derail this thread.
This is a ‘Confession’ thread and people should feel safe to do so without ridicule or persecution.
You can change legendary weapon status as you like. Would love it is Anet could introduce legendary armour with the same ability.
Oh…. the kittenstorm that would come about if they brought Legendary Armor into the game. * shudders *
The bugged form of downscaling some people here are begging for IS a form of punishment. What they’re begging for is to basically negate all the time you spend leveling and gearing yourself by making you as weak as you would be if you had never bothered to level past the zone, gear up past blues, and spend any trait points. Why bother making progression if it’s all negated 100% if you leave the 80 maps?
It can only be punishment if you view it as such. There are those of us that don’t.
I’m also not begging to negate all my time spent leveling. What I desire is for all corners of Tyria to be an enjoyable and challenging experience. I understand that there are people that like the feeling of being some sort of Demi-god in a game such as this – but there are many that do not. I truly don’t believe that ArenaNet wants the game to be as it is…. with maxed characters plowing through lower content as they are. Or rather, I don’t believe the ArenaNet of years past would want it this way.

- In PvE, I main a condi thief, and I’m having great fun with it. Zerker elitists who will tell me I’m wrong or bad can go jump into the Mount
DoomMaelstrom for all I care.
That is something to be proud of.
As an aside, gotta love the reasoning paths of the “supporters” of it:
1) I am bored and need moar challenge! Let’s ruin the game for everyone else…
2) A mean 80 killed a mob before I could tag it! Let’s ruin the game for everyone else …
3)(somewhat related to #1) You are all bads and I am a leet dood! L2P and then you won’t mind the super-downscaling! Let’s ruin the game ….
Interesting when one side of a debate becomes so overly dramatic and pulls out the “ruin the game” card. I see it so very often these days. Worse still that when they decide to use it, many do so with an attitude not unlike yourself.
As for Downscaling….
It was meant to be stronger than it is now, that is why there were people like myself that supported the change.
Some light reading for you in case you were unaware of what was actually sold to those that purchased the game —
Dynamic level adjustment adjusts a character’s attributes and level based on the area they are in, either reducing them to match their current area in PvE, or increasing their attributes and levels (typically to 80) in WvW or Structured PvP. For example, in PvE, a character with an actual level of 50 in a level 10 area will have their attributes reduced to an “effective level” equal to a level 11 character (maximum level for the area +1). The effective level is shown as a green number next to a downwards arrow and the actual level on the experience bar and is stated under the actual level on the hero panel. Changes to attributes are also seen on the hero panel in green. Unaltered values for an attribute can be seen when hovering the mouse over that attribute.
In PvE a character’s effective level and attributes are automatically reduced based on level themed sectors within the given zone. For example, a character in the Venlin Vale area of Brisban Wildlands will be lower level than a player in the Koga Ruins area of the same zone. Although skills and equipment (runes and sigils particularly) are retained, zones should still be challenging to play.
The benefits of this are:
*High level characters are prevented from killing enemies too easily and depriving low level characters of rewards.
*Lower level content doesn’t become obsolete, and remains adequately challenging, even after a character has out-leveled an area.

You’re not forced to buy anything.
However if you desire the content that is being offered in the expansion, then you will have to purchase the expansion to obtain said content. I don’t understand how anyone could expect it any other way.
As for the Revenant. Its still under testing. A lot of balancing is yet to be done. The nerf hammer is pulling at the leash to hit that profession, I’m sure of it.
I really wish they hadn’t “fixed” it on the last hotfix. The game was better for it.
I think the latest build fixed it. I think.
I can confirm this, I was at 88 power and 24% crit chance at level 9 downscale in queensdale yesterday and today i’m at 150 power and 46% crit chance.
I don’t think it is as high as it was before this patch, but mobs are now being one shotted again.
They returned it to the unbalanced state it was at?
That is disappointing.
It maybe is a bug, since it wasn’t announced, so wait for a while.
If it was a change however, I would be very happy. When advertising for GW2, Anet was proud to say that their downscaling system allowed the content of non-80 zones to be still interesting at lvl 80. And while I still like the dialogs, scenery and funny heart quests while exploring, the combat really feels silly. Where’s the fun in finishing a mob before the end of my Pistol Whip in every zone until lvl 40? I hope they leave it that way.
^ This.
I’m happy for this change, whether it was intended or not. Long overdue.
Realistically you should be able to shoot over the walls with the arrow cart so I see nothing wrong here. It’s point and click mechanics; it’s going to be easy.
True — in that there should be nothing stopping a player from firing over such a short wall. However, realistically speaking, we shouldn’t be able to see over that wall and know that we’re hitting our targets. Not like that. Not ever.
‘Cause fixing a blue wurm is more important than fixing guild chat. Why can’t you understand that?! Gawd! * rolls eyes *
Enjoy your break.
I have a confession.
Tonight, St Patrick’s Day, my guild ran a naked and very intoxicated WBT. (This is not my confession.)
I planted a MF Bonfire in the middle of the lava pool at Megadestroyer. (This is not my confession.)
Many people died and stayed dead in our efforts to get it fully activated. There were many bodies. (This is also not my confession.)
When Mega was finally killed the bodies only piled up afterwards because people struggled to grab the bonfire buff instead of reviving the constant pile of dead bodies surrounding it.
…. I confess that I enjoyed every moment.

exactly. but y not just making the eventmobs and bosses harder instead of?
This is a downscaling issue. The power divide between a level 80 character and a lower level player that is equal to that lower zone has always been noticeable. In many cases it is so extreme that maxed characters can plow through mobs while they’re lower level counterparts can’t even get a hit in before the mobs are destroyed.
Fixing downscaling to a level that makes maxed characters more equal to the zone they’re playing in makes sense. I support it.
However if they simply made the content harder, as you suggest, lower level characters would be punished for it. How? Yes, if they were surrounded by 80s when they’re in these zones, it may mean that they can get their hits in. Maybe not. But what would happen with harder content if those maxed characters weren’t around to help? Its like demanding Plains of Ashford foes to hit like they’re from Fields of Ruin instead just because there are level 80 toons that don’t like the thought of being downscaled appropriately.
It has to be a bug.
There is no way they would alter one of the critical features of the game without making any announcement on it.
Aww…. That’s just precious.
Still believing that after all this time.
You hold them to higher standards and have greater expectations than I do.
As someone who only has level 80 characters, I can only say that I think a nerf of our DPS etc in lower level zones is overdue. I see way too many level 80s casually killing everything that moves in seconds, while the people actually at the zone’s level have no time to even tag things. Too bad this is most likely a bug…
I actually worry that it is a bug too. Hope its not.
I do believe this was long overdue. You all must recognize how OP level 80 characters were in lower level content, right?
Not adding changes to patch notes leaves me upset most times …. but the change discussed in this thread does not.
They know of the broken trait and I’m certain that they read your other attempts to draw attention to it. Unfortunately the trait was never placed on the short list of problems that they believe need to be fixed above others. Understand that there are still errors in this game that have been around since launch. It took them until just yesterday to fix the falling damage issue when running down a steep incline, for example.
Please don’t think of this as a shortcoming on your part. It isn’t.
They WILL eventually get to this… but waiting for it is not advisable.
… a lot of people have noticed some things have a sudden and all around GREEN tone to them.. down bars, Text Bubbles… etc…
Is this something to do with St. Pat or is this some UI bugs?
If it is a St Patty’s thing, would have been nice to know before hand!
Silly Devs! We need Patch Notes!
So….. * points at her calendar * … I knew St. Patrick’s Day was coming. It is also common knowledge, for those that celebrate it, that green is sort of expected. I mean we have been known to dye rivers green for crying out loud. Is it ever so shocking that game developers may add a touch of it themselves?
We don’t need new servers.
We don’t need players only ever aiming to get in the top 3 servers.
What we do need are players willing to join all the remaining servers.
…..sadly I don’t see that happening.ANet needs to make it clear to new players that server choice has very little impact, except for WvW. I still see people who ask how to get into TC/JQ/BG so they can do various types of PvE content with friends. People who have no interest in WvW still get worried when they can’t get into a particular server.
Further, ANet ought to add powerful incentives for moving to low-pop servers, just as they do for people ‘volunteering’ to move out of an instance after the end of World Boss events. For example:
- 0 gem fee to transfer to the 3 lowest-pop worlds.
- A one-week buff increasing MF by 25% and PvE movement speed by 15% (same as the speed booster), for those who move to a lower population server (maybe one month, if that server is in the bottom 3).
- Perhaps some sort of special mini or other gem shop-like reward.
I like your ideas on incentives. Though I would hesitate on anything material, like your third example, as it may have consequences.
Its a bug. — Therefor its temporary. — Totally acceptable.
No, it’s not.
They delayed this update a week and still pushed it out wayyyyyyy too early. Rushing updates is just dumb.
If it wasn’t enough time to at least test to make sure something as basic as chat bubbles/down state not being green, random male charr noises coming from my human female character, and the plethora of other problems released this patch then it’s pretty obvious they’re understaffed. Tequatl is no exception to this and OP has every reason to be uptight about it.
Just about every patch I can remember downloading has resulted in bugs. It is not surprising that a large patch would have more than average. Am I thrilled that it took me a long time to finish loading my game client the second time? No. Do I enjoy having to go invisible and back again just to gain access to my guild chat? No. Do I like the green text and green downed meter? No. (Though I think that is a stab at St. Patrick’s day.) Was it nice that even my bug report window was bugged? No. Was I having a good time experiencing many other bugs through the night and/or hearing about them? No.
But I accept it because they’re bugs. They happen. They’re not the end of the world, or the game.
So yes, it is acceptable.
Throwing a hissy fit and saying it isn’t? You all can do better. This will pass.
Happy Saint Patrick’s Day!
Now none of us can be pinched when revivers have their hands all over us.
Its a bug. — Therefor its temporary. — Totally acceptable.
I use it from time to time. Either on a lower level alt that doesn’t have access to a better elite yet or on my Elementalist…. because you know… they don’t have a good elite anymore.
I’m hoping all the unnecessary green is just because tomorrow is St. Patrick’s Day.
……and that they will revert it afterwards.
I do believe you will be getting the weapon skins you want between now and whenever HoT is to be released. Or at least close to what you want… During the trailer you can see a few really black weapon skins with red highlights.
Can we please have this thread merged with this one…
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Best-update-in-GW2-History/page/2#post4885223
The topic is the same and both threads contain equal amounts of positive and negative feedback. I don’t understand why there has to be two identical threads.
Haven’t played WvW in a long time but if this is truly the end of melee blob v blob then this might get me to give it another shot!
If only it were so easy to end “blob v blob” warfare. I’m afraid you’re placing far too much weight in the update and its effects on WvW combat.
Yep, this patch is beyond buggy.
Yes. I’m laughing about it now and I don’t entirely understand why. I think my mind snapped when I decided to report some of the bugs that were popping up for me, like the broken guild chat, when I found that my Bug Report window was also broken.
I’ve gone mad. LOL
Wait you mean ArenaNet did another kitten job on charr characters again?
I’m like…. totally shocked. >_>
