Odd part about it is – I tend to like to play pet classes in most mmorpgs.

My feeling on the pet classes as a whole in GW2 are pretty much an epic failure. They are more a liability then a mechanic in the current game model.

Shame as this class has so much potential.

He used the trait that adds 50% fear duration, among other condition duration boosts (like the Spite traitline and runes).

How can someone have Dhuumfire, Greater Marks, Master of Terror and Terror on the same bar?

This – again. Guys, remember that pretty much everyone who rolled a ranger expected it to be a RANGED kittening class. It says so on their website, on the character creation screen, and was how it was in GW1.

The simple fact that Anet decided to neuter all ranged damage notwithstanding, EVERY SINGLE DESCRIPTION of the kittening ranger in any media described them as a ranged class.

Deal with it – it’s not a “misconception”, it’s not “false hopes” it’s expecting what you were kittening told you were going to get.

Keen eye, unrivaled archers. Ability to kill from range. Not second fiddle in ranged damage behind warriors and thieves – un-kittening-paralleled.

This is pretty much the way a lot of us feel.

I did not roll the ranger to be a melee class. I rolled the ranger to be well a ranged kiting pet class which is quite frankly how it was describe – with some melee options.

If i want to play melee – there are far better class options out there.

If you think rangers only need a damage buff, you are looking at this game with a severely limited view of the mechanics that make the other classes so much better in design.

Few combo fields
No variety in combo finishers
Need to trait to use most reliable AoEs
No group support skills without traiting
No true condition cleansing outside of heal (passed off to pet)
No pet scaling with your own stats (as much a boon for bunkers as a bane for non bunkers)
Little utility in dungeons
Lack of support on numerous tiny, easily fixed, bugs
Too much reliance on NPC
etc etc

Say what you want about “ranger being ranged”. I honestly have no more interest debating about that, so I won’t go there with fellow players. However, you need to take a big step back and look over a few of the things you mentioned in the OP. This class is amazing at healing. It is amazing at not getting hit. It is unbelievable at allowing for easy-mode PvE. It is lacking just about everywhere else – a farcry from needing merely a damage buff.

The problem with this class isn’t only the damage. The problem with this class and the reason so many people are upset about its state is due to the severe lack of group utility and the insane reliance on npc pets. It’s a class completely built around “me” in a game where you are severely limited in your options for gameplay if you aren’t viewed as viable in a group.

While the reactions on the forums are definitely blown out of proportion, it’s unfair to toss it all into the trash as “reactionary nonsense”. You’re basically saying to the many players, with very legitimate and constructive complaints about this class, that they should suck it up and deal with it.

The cliff note version of the above post is:

1)Rangers Lack verstaility
2)Rangers Lack viability
3)Rangers Lack Synergy
4)Rangers lack dmg
5)Rangers class mechanic hinders the actual classes ability.

All in all – I’m not so sure I agree with the class not being totally broken at this point in time in the pve environment.

We truly do not have a place in PvE. Any other current class in game can offer more to a group in every aspect then we can.

PvP is a mixed bag. Some of the changes were needed but some went a bit to far.

I don’t know how much clearer I can be.

The first thing you should ask yourself is why are people leaving?

Most players will not leave a match due to a reasonable loss.

Many players will leave a match when they solo q’d and are getting rolfstomped by a premade.

So let’s fast forward a bit to your proposed changes. Well use wow for example – you leave a match and you get a 30 minute debuff before you can enter another match.

BRAVO – all you guys got what you wanted.

Now – here’s the by-product. Less people will que for matches. New players will not want the hassle of getting farmed by pre-mades and on top of that a pentalty if they leave because it’s neither enjoyable or a learning experience for them.

The real debate should be about how to address the horrible problems with the match making system which would solve a good portion of this issue.

And you know they are prioritizing this over matchmaking how exactly?

You cannot throw every possible developer body at a single issue and make it come to completion any faster… It doesnt work that way in the software world (I know, I work in this world).

I am not the one asking for a fix which will stagnate pvp ques and matches.

I am also not the one asking for the band aid fix which will reduce the amount of new players getting interest in pvp.

What i am saying is leave it alone until at which time Anet fixes the match making system. At that time then this viewpoint holds some value – until then it will bring nothing positive to the game.

Again, what have they at all said that implies this is going in before matchmaking? Stop making unfound assumptions.

The immediate question, as it relates to necros, is should a profession that now has access to so many conditions ALSO have access to boon stripping.

Long cds and some nerfs to the amount of boons which can be converted to conditions.

I see no issues with that.

There is an issue when it impacts the health of the game, as it relates to the other group in the scenario. Which are the professions with important, but lesser access to boons.

Impacts the health of the game? Please tell me you have played pvp prior to this patch with some of the most unbalanced classes and tactics I’ve seen in recent mmorpgs.

IF necros and conditions are an issue I would support adjustment. What I do not support is your knee jerk reaction on a few day old patch without giving the meta time to adjust to truly see if there is an issue or not.

Purie starts playing necro. Purie starts to complain about Necro QQ on forums.
You missing one point. The classes are designed with different health pools. Since latest patch on the same skill level ele has no chance against Necros due to the low health pool. They get 6-10 bleedstacks + burning and the first fear is coming in an instant. Than he adds Torment and you can see how your healthbar drops. That is not a L2P issue from allies its just the fact that you cant survive 5-6 seconds of fear with just 13k hp. And even if you survive and try to remove conditions with ether renewal he starts to fear and GG..you simple will not recover. I aggree that necro was in a bad spot before the patch. But it was the mobility/CC and just minor the damage. Now you get overwhelmed by conditions. Last match I fought against Necro+ Engi —> I almost died instant to conditions – I had every condition the game offered on me – After 5 seconds. That is not the game is supposed to be. Its really like a HGH Engi with Terror fear.
The Necromancer is not just viable …its mandatory – Thats the problem people have. You wipe whole groups with 1xNecro+1xEngi or 2xNecros. You force guards to use their utilities for heavy condition remove and even tough its not enough.
There is actually no balance between power and condition. Conditions are the way to go and the classes can support each other.

The sad part to your post is there are counters to stacked groups.

And the game is not balanced 1v1 so your ele vs necro debate holds no weight.

Conditions always have hurt. The issue is the over saturation, by profession, of conditions.

Prior the issue was the over saturation of cleanses.

Fear dura went up 30% from what I heard, correct me if I’m wrong.

It’s funny though, for the last year I have never been hit by so many back to back fears by a single Necro until this patch, I swear no lie I went from 100-0 in a fear spam and I have 29k health on my Warrior, this happen to me more then once on all my characters.

Put 20pts into Defense for Last Stand and you’ll never have to deal with it again. Or you could just stun break the Fear yourself and not eat the damage. Necros have nothing else that requires a stun break so no need to try and hold on to it.

And whala – look at that.

People are already posting counters to said necros to help out those less fortunate in the strategy department.

There is nothing to argue about.

Ranger’s in MMOs are pictured as archers or is a class that is mainly focused on bows.

Take Call of Duty/Battlefield for example, a squad of 5 special whatever people with the objective to kill one special guy kills at least 100 and more enemies to get to the special guy while in reality, they would barely kill anyone compared to how many they kill in video games.

We are terrible in both compared to other classes.

My point, when this started, was actually that IF the argument can be made that rangers are in fact bad at both, then the problem is not directly their archery skills, it’s the design of the pet system messing up their DPS potential.

Of course it’s a class mechanic flaw.

I will go on record in saying Anet will NEVER get this class right due to the pet system.

It will bounce from OP to useless and back many times in PvP and in PvE it will remain the laughing stock it is today.

It’s a sad fact as I truly love the class , but I gave up on playing it as the effort and time investment will not be worth the reward. I have been a ranger since release but this ride is far to bumpy for my tastes.

Just curious – During the time of the above alleged incident what was your team doing?

Standing there watching you die? Beating on a target running away? Leaving you to fight the necro 1v1? Or perhaps going to capture a point instead of cleansing you?

What were you doing? Mashing keys aimlessly? Went afk out to have a smoke?

I’m sure you see what I’m getting at here.

Everything the necro has is easily countered once you understand the class. The problem we have now is people basically ignored conditions and necros and now since they can’t they are easily confused.

also necro hasn’t been viable/threath for so long that people don’t really know how to deal with them. Necro was never really a huge threath in the first place. So don’t think people know what to evade and so on.

Necros in a team setting are very easy to counter.

The meta just hasn’t adjusted yet.

We hear you guys loud and clear! We definitely plan on mitigating the leaver issue with a form of punishment. I wont give details about what the punishment will be, but it should be enough to deter this form of behavior. Anything we add will be in addition to what happens now (loss and rating hit).

So instead of addressing the match making system problems – you expect people to sit on a scenario and get farmed with little to no nope of winning.

Premade’s vs new players does nothing but turn any games PvP into a barren playerless area whose complaint soon becomes que times.

I’ve seen it happen countless times with band aid fixes like these.

If the match making system was better I would agree with this , but in it’s current form be very careful with what all of you people are asking for – because every action has an equal but perhaps opposite reaction.

Play a bunker guardian and look at your post-death damage taken. What percent of the damage came from conditions and what percent of the damage came from attacks?

You see the problem? Without condition damage, builds with high toughness and good protection uptime would NEVER die.

Ultimately condition damage is a band-aid for a gaping design flaw.

Today I was playing with my Necro.
I got chain CC-ed by an hammer warrior. Used my stunbreaker when the cooldown allowed me (Well of Power).

My HP bar melted in about 4-5 seconds, I wasn’t even able to build enough life force to fear them away.
Do I have to start complaining about hammer warriors being OP and that they should be nerfed?

What if I met a Mesmer and I got bursted down while I was a Moa?

The minute something differs from the norm or causes people to think outside of their current comfortable realm – they will scream for nerfs.

The patch is not old enough yet to decide what course of action IF ANY is needed.

The necro was such a non factor before (since it truly did require a team to be built around them for viability and that didn’t happen often) that people are over reacting to having to actually pay attention to necros now.

I suggest those raging take a deep breath – go outside and rethink their current strategies when facing this class now. While necros are indeed strong as it stands now I have seen and found multiple counters to everything they are currently capable of.

But, I see the problem some people have is simply trying to play this game as a 1v1 setting instead of the group combat setting which it was balanced around.

It’s amazing the sense of entitlement people have these days.

A new feature was added – it cost’s money to use.

So – now you have 2 choices:

A) Support this feature and game and pay for the service

B) Don’t

To expect everything for free from a company is ridiculous. At the end of the day Anet has to make money to continue to support this game. They require a profit to keep going. How is this difficult to understand?

I just don’t understand you people anymore….. To date GW2 has probably done the best job at it’s cash shop then any other game on the market so there really isn’t much to complain about.

Again…i expect to pay pvp features with the pvp currency they gave us…paying pvp stuff with golds (Since golds = gems) while glory is still worthless is totally nonsense..and should be reworked asap

It’s a nice feature that cost’s money. Now while “I” may think the pricing structure is a bit high – it’s still not bad.

If you don’t like what they have done with this option – Don’t buy it. It’s truly as simple as that.

But, in the future I suggest you stop “expecting” anything from anyone.

If i paid for something, and since at game release and during betas they said glory was going to be a currency in s-tpvp world just like golds and karma in pve/wvsw, yes i EXPECT this game to be, at least, as they said it was going to be. If this is a problem for you or for any pve hero around who wants to get everything just because he farms dungeons all day like a mindless chicken, no offence, but i really don’t give a single kitten.

I do not recall anywhere when I purchased GW2 that I was entitled to get any new features – be it cash shop items or new content for free.

Matter of fact i was smart enough to realize at the time of purchase that I would be investing more money in this game for such items.

So instead of acting like a child and demanding things because “you” want them. How about we act grown up and realize if Anet continues to make money they can continue to support and make GW2 a great game. So instead of spending 14-16 dollars a month on a sub I see no issue with spending some money on a arena rental to support this game IF you want your own server.

I think you didn’t get the point. Read again…i asked to use pvp currency for buying pvp stuff, does it sound so insane to you? This would bring more ppl to pvp too instead of farming mobs and then being able to get stuff while the ones who are in pvp since release can’t afford it cause our currency is worth nothing…again if you are coming from pve and don’t want to put an effort to get something that doesn’t belong to you just don’t reply…this topic is not for you. If you actually have a proper brain i think you can easily understand the problem here..

Anet is not entitled to give you anything because “you” qualify yourself as a pvper.

Just because you play one particular aspect of the game and only one is no ones fault but your own.

There are options to not use RL money to get a server. If you choose to not explore those options then that fault lies with you.

Because you want to sit in heart of the mists all day and not support gw2 what so ever is your issue.

I myself have no issue spending a little real life money for this feature because I find value in it.

Stop being a solo player in tournaments and join a team?

You know since it’s kinda a team based part of the game.

This but also start punish leavers too…15 mins ban from pvp, no reset on relog and stacking for next matches left would be a decent solution..

I would agree with this – but there is one major flaw.

The match making system in this game is horrible.

So why should anyone be forced to sit and get farmed by teams or players that or so much higher ranked then them. You learn nothing from those experiences. What that does is basically stop new players from coming into pvp in GW2 due to being frustrated which is the exact opposite of what we all want.

I see no issue with the current setup and IF a time comes when the match making system improves then and only then would I support this.

If i paid for something, and since at game release and during betas they said glory was going to be a currency in s-tpvp world just like golds and karma in pve/wvsw, yes i EXPECT this game to be, at least, as they said it was going to be. If this is a problem for you or for any pve hero around who wants to get everything just because he farms dungeons all day like a mindless chicken, no offence, but i really don’t give a single kitten.

I will explain a bit more – You paid for the game. You got the game.

I do not recall anywhere when I purchased GW2 that I was entitled to get any new features – be it cash shop items or new content for free.

Matter of fact i was smart enough to realize at the time of purchase that I would be investing more money in this game for such items.

So instead of acting like a child and demanding things because “you” want them. How about we act grown up and realize if Anet continues to make money they can continue to support and make GW2 a great game. So instead of spending 14-16 dollars a month on a sub I see no issue with spending some money on a arena rental to support this game IF you want your own server.

Crazy concept I know.

And to answer the guy who started the threads question, if you like your ranger please man stick with it, get good at it. Show some fools up =). Its not as bad as people say and to be honest it feels great to kitten someone on the ranger =) specially a theif or ele or any of the classed people listed that seem to be super awesome atm =P

I agree with you on some levels.

BUT, This is the question the OP needs to ask himself/herself then.

Do I really want to put 3x’s the effort in on something to get the same results other classes get normally?

The ranger in ideal is a very cool class. But, If you choose to continue be prepared to be shunned in pve and in PvP you have a limited selection of builds that work atm.

In closing all I’m trying to say is unless you truly love the style of the class the time investment is not worth the reward.

It’s amazing the sense of entitlement people have these days.

A new feature was added – it cost’s money to use.

So – now you have 2 choices:

A) Support this feature and game and pay for the service

B) Don’t

To expect everything for free from a company is ridiculous. At the end of the day Anet has to make money to continue to support this game. They require a profit to keep going. How is this difficult to understand?

I just don’t understand you people anymore….. To date GW2 has probably done the best job at it’s cash shop then any other game on the market so there really isn’t much to complain about.

Again…i expect to pay pvp features with the pvp currency they gave us…paying pvp stuff with golds (Since golds = gems) while glory is still worthless is totally nonsense..and should be reworked asap

There is that word “expect” again.

You should not “expect” anything nor are you entitled to it.

It’s a nice feature that cost’s money. Now while “I” may think the pricing structure is a bit high – it’s still not bad.

If you don’t like what they have done with this option – Don’t buy it. It’s truly as simple as that.

If you rent something for a month – then you rented it for a month.

If you choose not to play during that time frame then perhaps you should have reconsidered when you rented the server and perhaps postponed it until you had the availability to play.

I never thought common sense was such a rarity until this generation.
