To the people from SoS who I was lighting up the Dark Room for: Thanks for not killing me. Thanks especially for not mistaking for an attack the mud which drops out when I fall, and thanks for in turn showing me a few of the jumps.

To the people from SoS who proceeded to turn around and spike me dead in the arena? Please find something better to do. It took about ten minutes for a small knot of us to begin to question if it was going to stop, then when we did fight back and got to the top about three of you kicked us back down. Two of you waved “all clear” before bombarding me dead on the first chandelier.

I get it. It’s a PvP-allowed zone so you’re entitled to this. There’s rewards at the end including Siege prints, so it’s okay to deny us those.

But I wasn’t attacking you, and at least two others with me were just trying to get to the kite. At least, I didn’t until you made it clear you weren’t going to stop.

So. I’m planning on waiting until I know a mesmer is in the JP doing portals because I’m not going to run into the jaws again. I will, of course, continue to not attack anyone from other servers in the JP proper and identify myself with waving and bowing. Why? Because I ask the same courtesy of you folks.

I usually don’t attack others in the JP when passing by them. The difference between me and you?

I’m always ready for a fight and expect those with red names to always have hostile intentions. A ‘wave’ means jack to me.

Learn to not be a free kill nor mope about it on the forums and you’ll do well.

Though unless they /invite you to party and come to a clear verbal agreement. Only then it would be a jerk move for them to turn around and spike you.

No, it’s not 1000, or even 10,000, it’s100,000 drinks. Contrary to what they said at launch, it just seems like Anet is making this game more and more of a grind, at the expense of the fun. I still think it’s the best mmo around, but things like this are just frustrating. Everyone enjoys finding the little loopholes and tricks. It’s a valid part of the game as long as it doesn’t give anyone an advantage over another player or cause imbalance.

The WvW ones are worse. To get the “Yakslapper” title for example, you’d have to do nothing but hunt caravans in WvW for three years.

10 years actually.

I’ve played since head start. It has almost been a year and I only have around 600 yaks killed.

With that average count. It’ll only take me 1666 years to get that achievement.

Disagree. We’ve used siege in days past to clear campers off the traps, to help server members get out of the starting area (another favorite camping spot), and even “clear” the top of the beast arena (cathedral) from people camping up there. Siege can be used not only as a weapon, but to counter other campers in choke points. If everyone has it, its fair. Now the campers control because there’s nothing to clear them off.

A well placed Arrow Cart at the beast arena dome was the ace in the hole. No treb could reach it.

Still rather as it is now than it was before. At least if you see players up ahead, you’ll still be willing to take them on. If all you see is arrows raining down from multiple arrow carts you cannot see. Whelp. Time to go home.

But that’s not really about the point of this thread. The point of this thread is being killed whilst still in a loading screen should be rectified.

Protecting entry portals would be nice. I would also like to see them return rights to building siege equipment in there. Many times, a group will be camped along the path (not just at the entrance). Some siege would really help “move them” along like it used to. I had great fun dodging siege and being having to think tactically with my guildies for maneuvering through the EB JP. Now its just who gets there first. Boring.

Siege just makes it easier to camp the beast arena. It doesn’t belong in the jumping puzzle. Just let people brawl it out with their skills.

Reply to NotInTheFace

If the commander was attacking Veloka (which I agree is more important to hold than Mendon’s) then why did he go to Mendon’s? If he had no supply (which is a perfectly valid reason not to help immediately), why didn’t he say so?

Also there are good reasons not to follow the commander. A good team raiding the other servers’ supply camps is an example. Hunting down dolyaks is another. And so on. There are things that are better done with a big zerg and others that are best done with only a few people. Also I’ll argue that me and the ~6 people who were in Mendon’s together made the right decision. I went to Mendon’s once the call went out on mapchat that there was a DB zerg attacking it. The commander either reacted slowly or chose to do something else first. The results are obvious: we got into Mendon’s and were in position to save it. The commander didn’t (or more accurately he did, but he got there late, and didn’t actually attempt to get into the tower).

SoS’s commanders aren’t inexperienced; I recognize many of the commanders and have seen them play for months. The problem is they’re subpar. I don’t want to name names, but some of the calls some commanders make just have no sense in them. A few more examples, I had one commander with a 50-man zerg wait 3 minutes outside a supply camp with RI. I had another commander yell for everyone to get on him and stack with the closest battle more than 20 seconds away. I followed his commands a couple of times, but once it became obvious he was wasting time I stopped. (This same commander’s idea of defending a tower against slightly superior numbers is to stack, rush out the portal, kill and get killed, rush back in, and stack again. If his zerg decreases in size, it’s his fault because he’s getting them killed.) I get the feeling that at least part of the reason people abandon the commander is because they have no faith in the commander’s calls. For example, I would switch maps or at least try to do something without the commander if the commander on whatever map I was in can’t be trusted. On the other hand if the commander is doing good work, I will travel across a hostile map to join his zerg. I play for the server, not to serve any individual commander.

PS: about SM I will choose to hold it. It’s more valuable than holding towers or keeps, and it’s not just because of points. Its location makes it especially strategic, and the simple fact that the server holds SM may entice players to join Eternal Battlegrounds. Difficult to hold, sure it is. Impossible though it is not, as TC are proving. The only complaint I have is how much gold (in the sense of upgrades and siege blueprints) has to be invested into holding SM. I envision WvW to be played for points, not to spend the least amount of gold. Presently many players are just abandoning towers and keeps on the grounds that they can’t be held. I would rather that not happen.

Insert hoarse bat man voice.

Alts and why I hate them in GW2

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Azure Prower.8701

Azure Prower.8701

I agree.

Though there are some points against it. Such as you’d be missing out experience from heart questions and have nothing to do in the world when leveling an alt. Doing map completion is very time consuming that can amount to months work. I struggled to do it on my main that I enjoyed playing on. There is no way I’m going to be doing it again on alt class that I enjoy less.

For a game that screams at you to make alts. It’s starting to become very alt unfriendly by locking lengthy, time-consuming progression to characters instead of account. Like FotM levels, laurels (ascended) gear, WvW ranks, etc.

Balance changes

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Azure Prower.8701

Azure Prower.8701

Kind of a side thought related to the new condition.

In terms of counter play, the condition to boon ratio is off. With a new condition entering the field, what is the counteractive boon to torment?

Aegis -> Blind
Fury -> (Weakness)
Might -> (Weakness)
Protection -> Vulnerability
Regeneration -> Bleeding, Poison, Burning
Retaliation -> Confusion
Stability -> Fear
Swiftness -> Chilled, Crippled, Immobilized, Torment
Vigor -> Weakness

Even then, with condition conversion skills, these do not directly apply the mechanical counter play boon. The logic seems off.

Mobility and Regeneration are heavy stacked with conditions, while the remaining conditions are acting as multiple counter plays in a wishy washy way.

More boon/condition tactics would make combat a little more interesting in this game and add a new level of counter play on top of just condition spamming the target. Smart use of conditions and boons could add more skill the gamers.

Torment seems like a replacement for confusion. Seeing as confusion is very weak in PVE, yet PVE mobs are usually always moving. Making torment extremely effective.

I was never one to complain about buffs but from the unofficial release notes, it looks like almost every class is getting a ton of buffs and it’s a little disturbing.

Yes, ArenaNet in the past has nerfed many skills to the point of uselessness. But this patch seems to be going to the opposite extreme of making everything overpowered.

You can say no problem we all needed some buffs, but just remember the monsters will probably be buffed too.

Since I have an 80 of each class I’ll have a lot of new stuff to play with if all these changes are made. Hope they don’t make the game worse in the long run though.

Did you read the notes for Rangers? Ouch. I bet they were hoping for positive changes and instead they got spit in the face. I only leveled mine up for farming anyways, but I guess I’ll have to wait another 6 months until Anet decides to make them viable.

What’s coming for rangers?

Huge nerf to most pets’ damage . Since pets are about 25-50% of the dps rangers have , it’s a huge nerf . Anet is not even bothering themselves with buffing direct weapons damage other than some longbow buff (which still suck) .

Shortbow is down to 900 range as well.

Thief cluster bombs too.

It seems A net doesn’t want people to use short bows.

If any thing long bow needed a buff. Not having short bow nerfed until it was more useless than it.
