The Zerg. why the QQ?

Increase number of maps, reduce queue size of each map, problem solved. Zerging is fun. Zerg busting is even more fun.

If a map can only have max of 40 people zerg, there won’t be skill lags. And there will be less blob winning the day instead of stretagy. More maps ensure people can play wvw regardless some maps are queued. Since total points come from each map, it is still a test of server coordinate effort.

Honestly, I think wvw is good already. But if there can be some rework, it has the potential of been the game of the year for stretagy game.

WXP ranking problem to me

First of all, I have to say I like this idea of having special skills in wvw. While new skills (balista mastery the latest) are added gradually, it means we have to play wvw using a main char to take the full benifit of it. People like me who likes to play different professions from time to time are actually weak in terms of those added skills.

For example, if a player has 2000 play hour and only uses 1 char, he probably has rank 200+ and have maxed a lot of skills (include the skills that boost stats). If I have the same 2000 play hour but spread them amoung 8 characters/professions, I have only 25 ranks each and have little skills. It totally makes me feel like a noob and at a great disadvantage. Especially now we have this rating system and sometimes fight tough opponents that you have to play defense and don’t have karma train for weeks. Leveling is such a pain.

It kind of remind me why I stopped playing diablo 3. They have this fix level 60 then they add another 100 level for you to grind. And I had 5 different classes at lv 60 that need to be leveled, which is such a pain and too much for me. I pretty much only play wvw now for gw2 and it seems it’s a long road now to become useful to the server before I have a first fully leveled up main, which is the same troublesome feeling. But I can’t because I only play the game for its diversity of playing different profs. And I can’t pick one as a main because they are all good in a way. So now I am stuck and I can’t help feeling going towards super casual mode for the game.

It’s possible that I am a minority who play games this way. Maybe most wvw players only focus on one main so this is not an issue.

I would not be complaining here if it’s my fiber internet problem. I guess all these JP type of games just don’t work well when you connect from Asia without Asia servers. Even doing a static JP has lag issues. It’s just worst when it’s a 10 players competing JP game. And you can imagine now why most servers have little WvW oceanic coverage because of lag issues and the community is not so friendly just from the response of this thread.

How do I put this? It’s more or less the lag issue. I jump with #1 and somehow don’t move at all. #2 just flash me here or there like phases and end up not where I want and don’t seem to advance much. #3 is the worst. Fail all the time. A few spots that do not require targeting I can fail and fall down like a lag pull me back. My record is 15 trys and fall down and restart at the same check point. Don’t think I have the patience to continue with this live story any more. It’s a torture.

Guardian and thief always point finger at each other reagarding OP class. After I try each prof myself, I think WvW is only about 3 class atm, namely guardian, thief, and ele. The rest are expandable/redundent (not even mesmer is needed anymore).

For example, for a small group, you can have 3 thieves (2 offensive 1 support), 2 quardian, and 1 ele. This is all you need to wipe any small group with ease. If you need a zerg, just have this same setup x N. It can handle any zerg. This 3 prof can do anything other prof can do in any situation (with the right utilities/skills of course).

Mesmer is good for porting, but is not even necessary if using the above said setups. Since you can obtain any objective with the above setup, you can take your time to do anything without needing any port.

If 2 skill group fight each with the same setup, the one with less mistakes win. So the current wvw is built upon thief(zerk, sup), guardian(tank,sup), and ele(cc,aoe). And is pretty much end game setup imo. The other profs are just nice to have. :P

On top of the topic, rez is support too. It gets laggy in zerg fights and sometimes you are stuck rez people and couldn’t get away. (just like stuck after building sieges and couldn’t move for few seconds) Sieges always target the downed ones first and 90% of my deaths come from rez people because of that.

It gets more and more often now people don’t help rez downed players and rather stand away watching ’cause they know they will probably get killed during rez. What can we do about this?

2 vs 20 I have seen this kind of fights countless times, really this happens. The fact that this keeps coming up in the forum is because WvW is not just a game for elitists atm.

A lot of casual players just login to do whatever fun they want and they happen to meet these 2 elite coordinated players who are trained to kill. And then in the future probably only elitists will be playing the game when the casual players find other new games to kill time because this is kind of stressful expecting getting hunted by thieves.

Easy as that. People who defend thief tend to be elitists and skillful. People who complain are casuals. Otherwise, I feel thief builds are fine as it is. However, it is easily used to troll people whenever you want (does not have to be skillful to do that) because of the nature of perma stealth. It’s human nature to fear what you cannot see. :P

I have almost never got a single dc from anything (dungeon, wvw, map exploation) until this latest patch. I dc 4 times in wvw in 3 hours yesterday. Today, 1 went into EB and the lag was so serious (move forward 2 steps and back 1 step…) and I had to restart over and over. I refuse to think my fiber connection is the cause. Has anyone experienced similiar lags this patch?

It’s the player personality really. I was once fighting a thief with my tanky mark necro. After going around for about 10 min, I use /e to tell him that we can’t kill each other and I have to go. (Because I have a thief too and I know the fight will take forever since his best burst can only down 1/3 of my hp…)

So I back away, but he won’t let go and chase me half map before I decide to logout and kill myself (I couldn’t get out of combat ‘cause he kept hitting me but really not much hp lost…). Some thief players has this sort of ego that they think they can kill everything (Maybe elite thief but not this guy), and end up being trolls wasting people’s time.

0.5 sec would be nice. On top of that, I wish they fix the shiftness trigger/stack duration. I am not getting the speed buff 50% of the time somehow.

This thread is long, but I will add something anyway XD.

It seems fighting against higher rating servers you still gain overall rating points somehow even though you lose totally in game for the whole week.

On the other hand, you lose ratings somehow against servers who has lower ratings even though you mark all 4 maps with your color most of the time.

So, it’s strange really. It’s almost like you want to fight tough opponents if your server want to gain ratings. But due to the nature of the random match each week, you will gain/lose rating ever other week (in average). So I wouldn’t be surprised the total rating would look similiar to what it is today after a few months/years.

So this new matchup system is more of giving a chance to let people fight different servers. That is all. On the good side of this, when fighting tough servers, you practice defense the whole week. When fighting week servers, enjoy zerging with karma train. It seems to me HC and casual players will take turn to have their good time.

Though I have no idea how it works for the buttom tier servers. Maybe old/new systems make no difference to them?

I was playing my ele defending our keep standing beside oil and throwing aoe on the guys raming the gate. Then a bunch of them went inside the lordroom so I told people in map chat that the gate is down and need to defend lord. Then I jump into lord and tried to fight them off.

The Strange thing is the gate is not down…! It still has about 80% hp and I thought maybe some mesmer port them in somehow (maybe some perma stealth thief hide them in the keep all day just for this moment). We were running around looking for ports/smokes. Then suddenly a few more invaders just came through the gate and I swear I didn’t see any port. They just keep coming in.

So either my graphic card is burned out or maybe some group of engineers who drink elixir S and come through the mouse hole of the gate XD. Is this some sort of bug on the latest patch? Anyone seen it before?

I played with a party. Some of them quit after getting wipe a few times. Then I get more people to join. Some of them quit after getting wipe a few times. Then … Repeating this a few times, I have to quit finally XD. Some people new to the dungeon just have no patient (especially for the laser part). But it’s understandable ’cause they just want a taste of it.

Then I heard the achievement is difficult to get, so I might as well forget this whole thing all together XD. I am not complaining, but it seems troublesome to play XD.

Just spam map chat telling people not to take sup from wherever. This should work most of the time. But if you still see people taking sup from towers at the wrong time, those are probably the people who do not know English or cannot use teamspeak. In that case, just take it easy. The game is open for everyone. :P There are a great amount of oceanic people playing the game too who do not know English and who are pugs who just go into wvw for casual plays.

I always want to see if there are 30 engineers who each throw out 3-4 turrets (stacked) and mortars with extended range. :P And some use tool kit to pull people into range XD. It’s not going to happen in my server unfortunately so I am gonna keep dreaming~ :P

Hi, I am missing a poi in wayfarer foothills. It seems it was a new poi from flame and frost, which I didn’t do. My main character had 100% world completion, but now it becomes 98%. Does this mean if we have new characters they can never get to 100% world map completion sicnce the poi wouldn’t spawn because flame and frost was over. Thanks

People really should not compare WvW with real life military command structure. In real life military, life is at stack and soldiers are paid. Guarding is actually the better job than fighting at the front line with respect to life threating level.

In WvW you have the choice to follow the commanders you like. No obligation for anything. However you obtain the commander title really does not matter that much since players know the best who is good to follow.

Dungeon CM P1 no final tokens/exp chest

I played it the past few days wanting to level up my low level and get some tokens at the same time, but CM P1 just cannot end properly. After killing the final boss, nothing happens and no passing chest with the token (the one given after the final video). It’s about 50% of the time I don’t get it, and we didn’t skip any stuff (the bandits) and still happened. So plz fix it ‘cause it’s a good dungeon to level up. Thx

We tried relogs (even the game host, the one who opened the dungeon), but still bugged. It’s interesting that the game host leaves game but we don’t get kicked like we usually do.

I think somehow people think guardian is tank even though the game does not support trinity. XD I only play with random people from LFG and I know one thing. It’s the players’ personalities and play styles. Some people charge without fear and some usually turtle back and stay a distance. I know when I play with the turtle back players I usually get down more ’cause I like to charge. :P

Reason is simple. They turtle back while you charge, you draw all the aggro and down quickly. But if you play with a charge group, you will share/draw less aggro from different adds and take less damage. So playing with turtle back group you got to play turtle back as well, so that everyone shares the damage. That’s it.

(I don’t know how else to describe turtle back, so plz don’t take offense. It only means you are not a hot blooded type who charges on the front line. :P)

I use LFG to join random people all the time for dungeon runs. I think party profession composition usually determines the outcome.

Usually glass cannon party (all 5) wipe if they don’t know the path. If there is a quardian and the rest are glass, it’s usually ok if people know the path. Otherwise, if all 5 knows the path, they are ok regardless of professions or even levels (does not even need to be 80). Usually if the party players’ rateing are high (2000+), it’s ok too. :P

So I only leave a party when I see a glass canon party with low (<1000) player ratings and when I have limited time to play. It takes time to show people the path and some people don’t read sometimes. XD Even then, I think I only left a party 2 times so far because people didn’t read and couldn’t progress. So yeah there is no need to be elitists to play the game imo.

Hi, dungeons are about grinding/MFing in most games. So in that case what is the best dungeon? I think 10 min run with plenty of roots and minimal death is the best dugeon scenerio imo. That is why cof p1 is popular. Most people like it that way. Or people who have mininal time to spend on the game like it that way. :P

Want challange on dungeons? Some of the dungeon exp paths are like that already so those are your best places. Not enough? Take a break and Anet updates things pretty fast. :P Until then~

My server is at T5 and we are fighting against the same 2 servers from last 10 weeks. So the new system I really have no comment XD. It make no difference for us but different colors, which I like it. :P

To me the ranking has no meaning due to imbalanced wvw populations. If Anet can find a different way to resolve the population/coverage issue, any ranking will work. Until then, take it easy and do your best wherever you are. :P

I believe there is a misunderstanding, I think the OP is asking about normal XP leveling through WvW, in other words taking a character to level 80. I have to ask how many of the previous posters have actually tried to level a character solely in WvW?

I have tried doing this and while I really enjoy WvW and do it for fun, I have to say that is very impractical for leveling purposes compared to every other method in the game.

The general advice of sticking with zerg and playing a support role is very accurate for anyone entering WvW with a pre-80 character. And it’s certainly good advice for WvW XP.

Ok, so DoctorOverlord is generally right. The most efficient leveling is not through WvW but some other pve contents. Like crafting from lv 1 to lv 30, complete some pve maps, do dungeon exp (CM is a good choice) for power leveling, etc. No argument, it’s a lot faster.

Thing is if you were to level many characters for different professions, repeating the pve contents gets boring. WvW adds some variety. The longer time you stay in WvW, the more player experience you have playing WvW. You will be learning stuff/tricks running with zerg, listening to map chats, getting involements with the community. It’s all about player experience. If you only have been doing pve to reach 80 and not playing WvW, you ’d not know what you have missed.

But really, running with zerg is fun. That’s all that matters to me. :P I just do not like grinding/farming/repeating in endless contents. XD

Precursors from Rank Chests

Dragon/boss events have 1-2 rare each/day. Each event takes about 5-15 min. So let say if you do all 8 of them /day. It’s like 8-16 rares for an avg of 80 mins. There are wait time for each event to occur, so let’s say add another 80 min for the wait time, which is a total of 160 min (~2.5 hr) for 8-16 rares. So roughly 12 rares in 2.5 hour. (roughly XD)

So, if you play 2.5 hours in WvW casually, you probably will gain 2-4 rank levels depending on the fights. So 2-4 chests. I think a guaranteed rare in each chest is not so bad in terms of comparsion to boss events. But unlike boss events, there is no limit in WvW play time, so people will cash more time in WvW. A lot of pve people will come to farm and expect WvW maps getting queued. And your supply will be out of control. :P

I am sure Anet has thought about this so they didn’t want to guarantee rares. I am just glad there is a chance to get precursors no matter how little chance that is. :P

Hi OP,

Stay with zerg and run support build. You job is to provide cc, combo field, rez, and repair. The zerg will take you to camp and towers for max karma/exp gain. Join the big zerg, but not small groups. Your low stat is less obvious in big zerg.

For example, I am currently leveling a thief. I use short bow 4 to provide poison field, then 2 to blast it. So enemy zerg just get mass weakness. You might not contribute to dps, but you help your people fight easier. And use shadow refuge to rez people. Something like that. Every class has good sup builds.

Hum… I play both dungeons and WvW and found them both fun to play. :P But I guess that makes me a mediocre player since I have 0 asscendent gears.

FOTM is too long, and WvW just has asscendent gears lately. Problem is I have many lv 80 and I cannot decide who should have the asscendent gears should I get them. So I am just gonna stick with exotics till I can get asscendent gears for all my lv 80 at the same time XD.

If the rewards are based on when they are given, then I guess this is not an issue. I know the 2 chests I opened were low level junks. I will run this experiment and keep the chests un-opened till 80. :P

I got a low level char leveling in WvW and already had some ranks (10+). I gained 2 more levels after the 28th patch. So supposely I will have 4 chests for the 2 levels (2 from the 2 new levels and 2 from the old ranks).

Visually, I see 3 chests only (instead of 4) on top of my minimap window. So, I opened 2 of them. Somehow I still got 2 left. Does this mean there is an internal count for un-opened chests even though it shows only 3 at max (seems like that to me). If this is confirmed, it would be great. I don’t want to open the chests yet when I am a low level since it will get some low level junk items. Want to open them all after getting 80.

This is just like the party UI bug. Sometimes happen and sometime not. Some people see and some people don’t. I have seen this bug prior to May 28th patch, but my first encounter was around May 20th~

WvW is about massive zerg fights in an epic scale. Don’t make defending tower a job in a game. You play the game for fun. If defending tower is no fun but is an important thing to do, the dev has to rework it. I like the idea to have npc defenders to sound the alarm. :P

Hi, the reason that I am reading this thread is because I am hoping to find if here is anyway to get the achievements that I missed during my absence for a few months. Just like the OP I wasn’t playing the game since release but only came back months later.

Like some serious gamers, I look forward to get 100% completion. Since there is no way to get the missing achievements for certain time event, I don’t feel the kind of willingness to continue further after I got all 8 profession to lv80…. And if I am spending all day on the forum, it means the game is gg to me.

Hopefully there is a way to let us do the missing achievements.

Just happened to me when I use LFG to join a dungeon party. I cannot see anything but only be able to chat with /p. Reloging or restarting client didn’t solve the problem. I eventually got kicked. This is the first time happening to me, but I cannot use party the rest of the night. I hope tomorrow I can play dungeon. Otherwise it’s gg really….

It’s the long stealth that is Op. Just get some counter and problem is solved. How about level 400 food buff from some rare materials. Or some guild buff under art of war that gives some sort of anti-stealth as some sort of techology improvement. There can be many ways to do this if the dev is willing.

There is no game rule at the moment that says servers cannot team up if they can make it work. In fact there were many posts regarding alliance in the WvW forum before. If 2 servers decide to go this route, it must mean that the top server in that tier is too OP to play with. I can think of reasons why people would support alliance in the current ranking approach.

1. There are a good number of pve people who want poi/vista in WvW. An OP server is on their way.

2. pve people take the convenience of bank/guild bank/mistic forge access in WvW. If they go there in order to find their major keeps with wp are lost most of the time, they have to go LA instead and spend money doing more long range wp later, which the cost would accumulate if the situation lasts for month.

3. The OP server might get their good fights as others mentioned before.

Anet is changing the ranking sooner or later, so hopefully they find a good way to balance fights without making the majorities (especially the pve people) suffer from the inbalance.

I have seen group hugging to a spot and our zerg hit them and all you see is “invulnerabe” jumping like crazy. Usually near some camp. Since you cannot kill them, you leave. Then they just cap the camp over and over using the bug to avoid getting killed.

There are many character skills that can bug with terrians. Bugs/hacks exist in every game. It’s up to the player to exploit it (or not) if the dev doesn’t fix them soon. If this is a single player game, hacks are fine since no one else is hurt. For multiple player games, hacks are crimes because someone’s feeling got hurt and someone’s time got wasted.

If what the OP saw is for real, those must be hacks. Just take screenshot and report them and play something else. I know it’s difficult to take a screenshot at the exact moment someone uses hacks. :P

The title is the error message. When I sometimes take an arrow cart on the tower wall in WvW, I get totally frozen. Controlls are not working at all and press F trying to leave the arrow cart but get this error message. Nothing I can do except to log off. Plz fix this.

I level all my char to 80 in WvW and have fun. If I cannot do leveling in WvW anymore, it’s probablly gg for me. Leveling in pve is just a repeating/boring task. I don’t believe I am the only one doing this. :P

Uplevel is not supposed to dps in WvW, it’s about cc and support. Even more, if you are getting used to the character, you can use it as a bait. Often enemy invaders see you as an upleveled char and chase you like crazy. You just need to lure them to your buddies and gank them with greater numbers. Talking about lack of stretagy, this is one for you. :P

The most important thing is, since you have been playing the char from low level all the way to 80, you’d become good at it and know the pros and cons of this character and will likely to help when you play against it.

Also, WvW has become more like siege war. So, they can play siege to stay away from danger and help. They can do things that lv 80 players don’t priortize to do such as rez, repair, and build.

Actually, I wouldn’t have considered moving at the first place. When we first buy the game, We all just pick a random server with a name tag and the servers are all equal. Why should we spend extra money moving? If you have to move, there has be some reasons behind.

Since there are questings, pve shouldn’t matter what server you reside to do your normal pve things. Having trouble playing low population on group events? Fine just guest to other servers. Want to join some good guilds? Just spam map chat and ask around. There is got to be good builds in every server.

The only reason I can think of that might encourage people to move is the WvW. You either want to join/play/coordinate with some specific guild, or you want to fight against some specific guild (which you can join one of thier 2 opponents in that tier). If doing so is so important enough for you to consider transfer, the transfer fee is all you need to worry. I don’t know what kittens are, but every server must have them. One should never focus on trivial things other than the goal.

Thought I saw this post some time ago and is still going on. :P I guess it’s a big decision to move so many players. Speaking of which, moving so many players require a lot of golds. Maybe you could just move to anywhere who can give you the most donation? Just trying to be practical because that is the only thing I’d concern if I were to move.
