What’s passed is passed really. I’ve destroyed more than my share of soulbound items because I just couldn’t use them anymore. Most can’t even be salvaged.

Karma is now account wide. WvW badges are account wide. The wallet that holds our coin is account wide.

There really is NO reason that the items that we purchase continues to be soul bound.

I have 12 characters which means I have duplicate classes with different builds etc. Anything I now buy using the shared currencies should be usable by all of my characters that are able to equip it. This would enable me to swap sets around depending on which one I felt like building a certain way. Having to buy new gear that’s soul bound everytime I want to try something new is nasty. I currently have a number of armor sets in my bank that are soul bound and have had to buy sets exactly like them for other characters that use the same armor type.

There’s no sense in having armor/weapons soul bound, period!

I dont think you understood what i said.
if you remove soulbinding you cant sell ANYTHING anymore.
the only items that are account bound on equip are legendaries, everything else is bound once you acquire it. hence, if EVERYTHING is account bound, the trading post is rendered useless.

ok… so it wouldn’t make the TP useless at all… What you buy from the TP now becomes soul bound once you equip it. If you don’t equip it then you can resell it if you want. The only difference would be having the item become account bound on equip instead of soul bound. It would have zero affect on the TP.

The things that are soul bound on acquire don’t come from the TP. They come from karma vendors, and wvw vendors.

You can, don’t forget there is soulbound after you put it on your character.

lol… you are not correct. If it is either “account bound” or “soul bound” you can NOT sell it on the TP. Never have been able to… that’s why it’s called ‘account bound’.. as in.. bound to YOUR account.

NOTHING that is in the TP is account bound. Check it out next time you’re in there.

On a similar note, have you considered having four servers per tier and having two of each? I think that would be amazing! I know that would require a change to EBG, but is it something you might ever consider doing?

With the queues we already have the way things are this would be nothing short of a complete disaster.

Fixed a bug with the teleporter on the dunes above the Fire Keep.
Fixed a bug with automatic blessing at the east Earth Shrine.
Fixed a bug with a jump pad on the north side of the Air Keep.
Fixed a bug with a floating mortar in the Air Keep.
Changed the jump platforms at the Air Keep so that they launch players similarly to how jump mushrooms work in the jungle maps.
Removed some of the jump platforms, since the new jump platforms launch players further.

How convenient that you “forgot” to look through the April patch notes that brought about a kittenton of changes to the DBL

I didnt forget. That was still when we played it. What I quoted suggested its been changed since it was taken down. How convenient that you missed that.

DBL was changed a lot before it was taken down. Getting around in there is a lot easier now. They removed a lot of the cliffs/walls etc and even added stairs in spots that weren’t there before. It’s much easier and quicker to get from place to place. As well they changed the wp’s so that anything you own that’s upgraded can have the wp accessed just like in Alpine.

Seriously if more people had checked that out just before Alpine came back, AND read ALL the notes for the updates to the DBL’s I think maybe the prejudice might be a little less. A lot more people were playing on the DBL’s just before they went away.

Yes the north towers are still simply two structures with no strategic value other than PPT and WxP but maybe they’ll do something about that… frankly I don’t care. The three keeps alone are a lot of fun and the layout is nowhere near as bad as the nay sayers think and say it is. imo

hmm.. what… I get the feeling that the desire here is to be able to get exactly what you want, when you want, the way you want and with not much effort? (read: “afk reward”)

Instead you have to pick through stuff and inconvenience yourself with all the other ‘garbage’ (and most of it is pretty low) and hardly ever see what you like. Rough stuff.
I see lots of junk in these chests and bags as well… but this junk does give at least some magic find, or you can take time and sell it. Before you say magic find is useless you might not realize that the mf is also needed by the guild halls. Matter of fact a LOT of the mats that come out of this stuff can be used in the guild halls.

Instead of complaining because you don’t want to do anything but get the stuff you need.. perhaps you might check your hall and see what it needs.. You might find out you have a bunch of stuff in your bank that’s useful.

Are people actually using these hammers? If they are I haven’t seen it. I actually bought some and there they sit… wish I could sell them because I realize I will never use them… period.

I’ve seen double and triple those stats… You don’t want to see the build because your mind won’t be able to comprehend it and will explode. Get to “primordial” rank first then you can view the build with relative safety to your health.

lol… I’ve never been very good against an ele, well in this case Tempest… my ‘too old’ reaction time just doesn’t get me to the skills fast enough. My guardian friend doesn’t main guardian, but he does main Necro… which explains why when he came with his Necro the 1v1 game was over for the little Tempest.

Balth don’t listen to the BS. I have put up with it for years and would still put my condi ranger in the middle of a zerg fight and have to save the butts of the tanks. If you still get some flak look me up on the DR server or in LA (which I am usually at recruting for my guild havc) and I’ll give you a home. If your good with your build I don’t care what you play I’ll find you a spot.

The offer is great and I appreciate it. But I do have a home here with the people I’ve run with for the last 3 years. It’s been a learning experience with these world linkings and completely different style of play. As it is I’ve settled back into mostly roaming either alone or small groups, and join a zerg when I’m bored or if one of my guilds is raiding.

Builds? Pfff I fight any builds.

What I dislike is fighting against that certain type of roamer that will happily and confidently go 1v1, yet at the first sign of loosing he is off like a rat on fire, presumably to save his 25 stacks or something. Or even worse, those that do the same in a small skirmish and abandons their mates.

Respect for those that stand and fight to the death even when their class/build could have let them escape.

Yes I don’t understand the point of “escaping”. Unless it’s a pve type person who isn’t ‘invested’ in wvw. When I back off, or run, it’s to get back some health and come and try again… but mostly it’s just do or die.. that’s the fun of it. I hate losing the stacks but meh… not hard to get them back

ah well… as it is.. with changes to my Ranger it’s kicking butt better now… lots of fun.. a roamin we will go

Definitely rebuilding based on the advice given. But I will say that I don’t spend near as much time dead in wvw as you might think. 3662 deaths (not all wvw) with 23,596 wvw kills, mostly on Ranger, very few on other classes.. not terrible I think.. and mostly group running.

I have to add as well that having “a person” focus me isn’t that nasty.. I can usually absorb a lot and believe it or not give a lot of damage out regardless of what you may think the stats show. Now give me 2 decent players hitting me at once and yes I get into trouble. I’ve seen Rangers take a lot more than me so it’ll be interesting to mess with these builds and see what comes out.

Having said that, I can already see that my so called “good build” wasn’t near the best….. Thanks again

Yeah sorry if my posts don’t always come across as friendly, I’m a bit of an kitten but I’m an honest kitten. I know the ranger class inside and out which means I know exactly how effective (and ineffective) it can be in any situation. I can make a ranger work in a zerg but it isn’t optimal.

Hey Jim.. no worries there.. I can take a hit pretty good… and find something useful in it. I also know when to ignore garbage. I appreciate the input.

ok now we’re talking education! Yes I love this Ranger and have enjoyed what I did with it but from the looks of it I failed in a couple areas with it.

I didn’t understand, obviously, that I was wasting stats running it the way I was.

With the changes already made it’s already better than it was.. (ya I know, not a stretch, lol). And now I will check out your suggestions Jim.

I’m glad I started this thread. It’s been a slap here and there back and forth but in the end if I get a setup for my Ranger that makes me enjoy it even more I’m happier yet.

If anyone skips through all the stuff here (and I probably would ‘cause there’s so much), at the end of it all this is what it’s all about.

– I was wrong.. happily I will work with what’s been given and rebuild for more fun

Now on to the rebuild… I will never abandon my Ranger, (but will use my other support classes in zergs/blobs).

oh I’ve had a look at this Archon… I have to say I like it a lot. I will be converting my ascended armor to marauders etc. and see how this one plays out. More power, more health, more crit damage… less crit and toughness but I believe it will be better than what I have now. It still keeps me away from the gimmicky trap and condi stuff. This won’t be the first change, and might not be the last… but it’s still fun and frankly that’s what matters.

This is the base build I posted a while back.. I tweak it now and then depending on what I want to do. The stats are close to what’s real in the game and that’s before utilities, food, and stacks.

This build is obviously by no means the be all end all.. but… it’s what I use very successfully a lot of the time. For a ranger I believe I do very well. Yes I get killed by all kinds if they are decent players. I’m an old fart and my reaction time isn’t what it used to be, otherwise I think this little pewpew would be even better. Colour vision is poor too so I can’t see the queues that other people can see when being marked etc, but do my best :P

All in all I continue to love my little pewpew… but I do indulge my Guardian, Ele, Rev, when the mood hits and the team needs it.

I should note that the stats I posted at the top of this note do include food, utilities, and stacks… with different skills being hit the crit goes over 100% and I’ve seen power as much as 3500 at times if I took time to look while I was fighting.. which I do now and then out of interest..

I continue to read with interest all these comments about how ‘not useful’ a Ranger is.. “can’t snipe” and so on. Very interesting.. Of course people can block etc if they hit the right combos at the right time as well. Of course it’s not a dynamite killer that’s unstoppable… but… as I said in one of my previous posts.. when I hit my own combos just right and hit you at the right time you get powered down real fast. Saving the Bristle back pet skill for when you’re almost down is an awesome way to finish you off fast.

I will say it again and again if only to “hear” myself say it… Ranger is not as bad as everyone says. Yes it’s best use is in roaming and small havoc groups. If all you want is field fights and gvg type stuff then yes nuke the Rangers from your group and go guard, rev, ele, etc and have fun. But if you are looking at all around WvW then EVERY class has a place and a use and NO class is useless.

You know what the best part of commanding with a Ranger is? The enemy never looks for a Ranger commander… Yep, don’t have all those good buffs for my squad that all of you non-selfish people want… but until they got about twice our numbers we wiped them a couple times.. oh ya.. that means that they really really suck because we are so bad.. almost forgot that part. Regardless, I pretty much didn’t get targeted so was able to keep the group going with the support people doing their jobs. Go figure that the commander does NOT have to be the beast of the group eh.

Go ahead.. take all your shots… they suck.. you suck… learn to play wvw.. baahaaaaa… Without bigger numbers… they die.. it is what it is.. and yes.. sooo much fun!

If you’re not having fun regardless of the outcome that’s sad. But I won’t judge you either. Just so you know, I run my guard or rev as well. But frankly I spend more of my time in havoc than zergs. And live or die I have fun.

And yet I continue to run backline and pick off enemy cmndrs my cmndr tags. And my kill count is big most of the time. So I don’t provide the boonshare etc that other classes do. But I still kill a lot and of course that’s what we want too right? My build is my own hybrid thats better imo than condi or the other so called meta.

After all is said and done, my main cmndr knows how to make use of me and it translates into a lot of kills and fun.

Osu.. did you even READ the whole thread? The complaining stopped a LONG time ago. Coming in here and writing what has already been written then telling me to stop complaining etc etc shows you simply want to shoot your mouth off and NOT even see how the thread developed from start to what was the finish just before your message.

I have to say I understand a lot more about the team dynamics of a squad operation when it’s run well.

My poor Ranger is standing in a corner crying but I had to explain that there are times and places… When I’m roaming, alone or small team I will use Ranger because although someone up above yapped about picking off Ranger’s with his thief.. well I’m about 50/50 on that one.. a good thief can get me a some of the time, but most of them either die or run away.

The meta for the Ranger isn’t so great imo but that’s not what this thread is about.

My Rev has been cleaned up and rebuilt for team play and had a lot of fun last night running with a big group (OUT FRONT!)… So out of all the jabbing back and forth in this thread there did come some good. Thanks all

The real issue in my mind is that most players ignore what a good team composition is either out of ignorance or something else. Ranger can fulfill certain roles in a zerg as can a thief and engi. But more often than not it isn’t one or two guys playing those classes, but over half of the guys playing those classes. That is where the team really starts to hurt. If your team composition is unbalanced, your team will struggle. You’re not going to win a fight if you are all healers and have no damage. You are not going to win a fight if you are all gank and have no melee train staying power. Etc.

WvW is a team-oriented game mode. You find similar demands on team composition in PvE raids (where ranger is crucial to healing), fractals, and dungeons.

Ranger is problably the profession with most bad players per capita (Some of them don’t even know they have a weapon other than Longbow) and very little group utility. The fault lies in who didn’ t make ranger decent and viable in 4 years.

You got it backwards, the class itself is fine, but it’s the players who play it that bring it down. Rangers encourage poor discipline and selfish gameplay habbits that aren’t welcome in any serious group. It’s easier to replace all rangers for other classes than explain to a group of selfish rangers why one particularly good ranger is allowed to be on a ranger and that the group would benefit from more of another class. Usually the good players will switch classes upon request anyway.

I’m sure we’ve all heard these come out of engis/rangers mouths, especially when you ask them to either run a different build or class:
- “I am the best ranger in the game!”
- “I’ll beat you 1v1”
- “I run this really tight build that is the best at ____”
- “I have more experience than ____”
- “My wvw rank is higher than ____”

Second time I’ve heard that I am selfish… Please enlighten me.. what is it that’s selfish about a person playing a Ranger? Just curious… at this point I have no interest in joining any zerg with my Ranger so you can go into relax mode now… but I really still want to know what you mean by selfish..

Was the squad near full? Because I doubt any pug blob is in such a position to be so picky about bodies, especially with the mode in such decline. Then again you could just be playing with the clueless, never any shortage of that.

Squad was big but not full. At the end of the day other people here are right. Forget the squad/zerg… do your own thing.

I think it’s funny though.. get a Rev, Guard, or even a light class.. we don’t care if you know how to play it, or if you die a crapload more than that Ranger who does know… just get the class we want to see and join us… otherwise go roam. ah no worries.. that’s what I will do and I promise to shut up now about this because I gotta find some fun here somewhere… sadly it means a LOT less time in this whole game than I used to play.

PvE is boring. PvP doesn’t interest me really. Running with groups and having some fun together I like so like I said in one of my earlier posts, I’ll have to pick times when the people that I know, and know me, are online, otherwise it’s roaming time if I want to play at all.

So ya, keep your Revs etc and have fun with them.. I have one of everything, and two of a few… the most fun I have is with my nasty Ranger. It’s all good I guess… doing stuff alone in this game is not a new thing regardless of how many people are around. But still… being rejected for a given class by people who obviously will never agree with how good a Ranger really can be… well.. meh.

Doesn’t matter to me, I’m more for balance, play what you want to play, and having every class useful and not excluded in group play, well, other than thieves cheesy venom share XD
Enjoying my druid quite a lot lately, most times I don’t bother joining a squad.

Yes, and I really should have known better than to try to ‘pug’ with a squad of people I didn’t know. The people that know me well have seen time and again how many people fall; how valuable having 1500 range is at certain keeps. I’ve even had a few people rage quit on me in the last 2 weeks because they didn’t want to get stomped.

Maybe I’m just not a good player of the other classes but I kill a LOT more people with my Ranger than any other class that I play. Sure the ranger doesn’t do boon share and all that other crap but that’s what we have the other classes for. I mean really.. do people really want everyone to run the so called BEST class so everyone can have boonshare etc etc and win all the fights?? Boorrrinnggg…

I live, I die and I live more than die, and when you are on the other side of the right combination of attack skills from my Ranger it’s not likely you will last long unless you have most of your skills set to recover/heal and not so much on power/kill….

So screw it and back to roaming unless/until the folks that know me are on and then it’s time for fun.

lol, I have every class… with all the people out there running revs, guards, warriors etc… a Ranger here and there doesn’t hurt. With stacks and hitting certain skills my Ranger runs with Power: 3k+, Toughness: 2.4k+, Health: 19k, Crit: 73-104%, Crit damage: 162%

People may think that’s self serving for some odd reason but for me it takes enemy down pretty darn fast, and if I need to I can invoke the Druid healing to be helpful..
