I think the reason they don’t have the hide shoulders options is that the outfit is a continuous mesh/texture without anything underneath the shoulder portion. I could be wrong and they may have multiple layers

You can hide the head armor so no reason to not be able to hide the shoulder armor.

Some outfits have separate pieces, some don’t.

Wrong. There are outfits and there are armor sets. The armor sets have separate pieces, the outfits don’t.

You can’t just go and start blocking so many people really. That’s not practical since even the trolls actually have useful information at times.

Sure you can – I have a couple guildies who blocked dozens on day 1. (Their block lists were already hundreds of people long, so that was hardly a surprise.)

Surely trolls are not the only ones with useful information. But even if they’re not blocked, I’m not going to show up to defend something if the only person saying it needs defending is some muppet whose word I don’t trust anyway.

… and no doubt players would start to be banned. There never will be a good excuse for breaking the rules, and there will be people that report these things… ANet also looks for patterns and limits the amounts etc that people with low number of achievement points can send etc etc. I don’t think that’s a valid reason to not raise transfer prices.
The only reason I can see that ANet isn’t raising prices is so they can continue to get income from the people that continue to transfer around each re-linking.

Even better would be to raise the price of transfers to 1800 gems for ALL servers right after the relinking/rebalancing is done. At that price you would be much less likely to have people continuing to bandwagon over to the hosted servers for 500 gems, and keep things balanced longer.

Because regardless of even the most sensible posts in these forums regarding the down sides of linking they believe they are on the right track and know better than we do. The big issue I see though is much more idle chatter across the BL’s now that they can use Team chat as a global chat. Most people don’t say what BL they are on when they are reporting things… at least not the last time I had Team chat turned on.

I pretty much don’t even “remember” Team chat these days since I really did have to turn it off due to the poor use of it under the new setup. It’s highly unlikely that I will ever turn it on again.

Lowering the map cap would not be a good idea. It’s already bad some nights with queues. Anyway, a new map simply isn’t going to happen anytime soon for sure. Way too many things I’m sure they’re working on other than coming up with yet another map that many people (esp the prolific complainers) will complain about. Heck the current ones have enough issues as it is that have been listed time and time and time again.

… and no gliding, no leylines… hey it’s WvW for crying out loud… not the HoT pve zone.. .:P

I’m just coming back now after a while of not playing. What servers are linked now? What exactly does that mean?(Linked Server for wvw)

The Op is talking about EU – things are slightly different on NA.
A while ago anet decided to boost the population of servers so they deleted tiers and made links out of the servers. So it’s now “Server X + Server Y”, sometimes it’s multiple links. It seems to work out on NA for the most part but the latest EU linking is a mess as anet basically locked tiers and made some servers that huge that only few are able to compete. They use the language barrier as an excuse, but we’ve been fine before, there was no reason for this.

Totally don’t agree that it “works for NA”, not even for the most part. People bandwagon to the linked servers constantly since they are so cheap to move to. All this linking really has done is make it a sort of nicer place for the people that like to blob around. It hasn’t created synergies that they probably hoped it would. Actually I see a lot more guild groups running exclusively a lot of the time, and squads that only want certain classes. Smaller havoc groups continue to get steam rolled and so on and so on.

It is what it is though, and enough people seem to like it that we know it won’t be going away. I, like a large number of people I know, do not play in WvW near as much as we used to. Missions, a little havoc, out. Once in a while some zerg play… but zero commitment to the server since as a linked server I have no home.. only a new possible host at next linking.

Yes, this is true. If you find the content offensive, not because you don’t like any roleplaying, but because a certain segment of roleplaying is crossing the line into sexually-related content, abusive chat, truly “offensive” content in the standard definition of the word, then use the in-game report system, please, and the team will review.

Not sure if someone has said this in the huge list of posts, but reporting someone who is just emoting their actions is not that easy. You can’t click on a person’s name when they emote and get anything back. You only get that it they post in /say or /map chat.

What you’re left with then is adding the person as a friend, then possibly reporting them that way..

I never said it was offensive, it’s not. However some RP sessions are very chat space intensive, and as you said only aimed at the players involved. Yet everyone in the area sees the entire thing. People requesting a way to remove /me without removing emotes simply want the ability to filter out chat that is not aimed at them, and not offensive that does not include turning off (or moving chat tabs) for emotes, or blocking the other players.

That question I believe was to Balthazarr who apparently wants all RP’ers to go to a single specific zone to RP or not RP at all.

@Balthazarr: I see you’ve forgotten that GW2 is an MMO RP G. As in Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game.

If ANet did not want players RP’ing in the game, they would have already put in place rules to stop it. They have not. So you have two choices: accept that and continue playing without trying to push the RP’ers out of the game or not accept it but realize that nothing will change due to that lack of acceptance.

If this was really supposed to accommodate this kind of rp then anet should have made a special instance just for that and advertised it.

Either way I’m out of DR. You guys can have your fun and no worries about trolling from me at least.

Of course it will fall on deaf ears. I actually didn’t expect much more than that. People of one mind are like that. Does anybody that RP’s in DR actually understand that this is Guild Wars 2 and not the “Meet and Greet” game? There are actually games all over the place designed just for this purpose. They can, and will, stay in DR because they WANT people to see what they are doing. That much is clear…. they scream that we are intolerant but the fact is there is zero consideration for the thoughts and feelings of others who have to continue to read this drivel. This is one of the main reasons I bought a pass for a different spot.

Heck, Lion’s Arch takes too long to load to be a home base and DR was a great place to go to for the quick loading. But I’ve moved elsewhere now (for another 1000 gems) but definitely worth it. :P

The answer is… this is Guild Wars 2… not the Meet & Greet… and it’s not that local… If ANet limited it to maybe a distance of 2000 at most that might be ok… 1000 even better… but to see it almost anywhere I go in DR isn’t what I go there for.

Many people don’t know this but there is an instance called Rugnar’s Steading in Wayfarer’s Foothills just a few steps north of Dolyak’s Pass Waypoint. Everyone you want can go in there.. it’s not exclusive to a single person… a ton of people can go in and be completely apart from the rest of the GW2 community. You can RP to your hearts content with NOBODY hearing or caring.

To answer your next question of how to let people know.. Simply let the people that you know where it is… they can tell their friends and so on. It’s a real easy solution if people are willing to just give it a try.

Make that the RP zone.. nobody else uses it for anything.

The only objection I can see to this suggestion would be that people actually ‘want’ other people to see their rp instead of having it just between the rp’ers.

Are you sure there aren’t people RPing there already? Basically, your advice may likely be falling on deaf ears as RPers likely already frequent the area every now and then.

DR is often used likely because it is the human home town and there are more human RPers than other races.

pop a little post into the regular chat now and then inviting new possible rp’ers to join the squad. Squads can be made open for anyone to join so that’s not an issue.

jeez … to all the RP folks… Make a SQUAD! Do your RP in the Squad.. you can have up to 50 people in it… if you are the one that made the squad then you can drop squad and rejoin to remove the tag. It’s not that hard… it’s respectful of the others that really don’t want to see all the RP stuff. RP is fine… but really is it that difficult to do it in your OWN space?

You don’t even have to use emotes when you’re in squad…

Just enter something like: -xyz hugs xxx-

easy stuff…

If you don’t want to use team chat, use map chat. If you don’t want to see team chat, turn it off.

There’s no sense at all in reverting team chat to its prior state of being a redundant clone of map chat.

I agree… and the map chat should have that ridiculous spam restriction removed from it.

Yes, sadly it’s not so good so far. I’ve had to completely turn off the Team Chat in my message box simply due to people chattering about nothing important now that they can yack between bl’s. I did see one or two messages by people saying they need help somewhere, and saw responses that said something like, “sorry can’t come”… then just a lot more chatter.

Unfortunately it’s not working well… and ESPECIALLY because people do NOT say where they are posting from… and don’t say just ask them … because if you think that’s efficient then you’re not a WvW person ‘on the move’.

I think it would be beneficial to tag team chat messages with an identifier telling people what map the message is coming from. What do you think about that idea?

Why can’t players do this themselves? Why can’t other players ask if the message isn’t clear?

Apparently you don’t play serious WvW… If you did you would know how much of a pain it will be to always add the extra stuff to a message when you’re rushing to defend/fight/run etc..

Something tells me the coding for this might be very difficult because the game would have to track the player and change the chat message each time he/she changes maps. Might be really hard to actually implement. Same might be true with any color coding for nametags to indicate what map they are on.

Track player? Why? Just recognize what map the message is coming from and tag it the same way they tag what guild you’re sending a guild message from.

You wouldn’t change the message just because the person changed maps… that wouldn’t make sense. The message is “from” a specific BL so the tag stays in front of it.

By message I meant the identifier for a nametag, if for example there was something like JohnSmith (BGBL) then JohnSmith (JQBL). Guild chat is not dependent on player location, just association meaning membership of the guild, maybe it could work the same for team chat I dont know.

The guild panel is able to tell you your location. If I see all my guildies on Yaks Bend Alpine Borderlands then I don’t have to ask “What BL are we on?”. As a coder something tells me they can just re-use the code that tells you what guild your posting from and pull the location source like you would from the guild panel.

This is interesting, since your a coder which of these seems the most technically feasible:

1)Color code the names of players to indicate what map they are on
2)Add text code identifiers next to a players name, like JohnSmith (BGBL) or (RBL)

I think you’re both missing my suggestion.. Don’t tag the players name in any way at all. Just tag all messages in the given BL with that BL identifier.

Note that spamming doesn’t just mean entering the same message a few times. If one person enters a few messages one after the other in map chat while trying to instruct/inform etc they will soon be suppressed for a while. Team chat doesn’t have that limitation which is why most commanders that aren’t using squad chat will use team instead of map.

Most big squad use TS anyway so that’s not such a huge deal. But for smaller/havoc type groups etc that are using the message box then they will likely start having some issues while entering instructions / commands etc for “spamming”.

Simple solution for this is to have the “spam” limitation either removed for map chat, or increased to a much larger number.

Yes great idea, but it would be really nice if they would put a BL identifier in front of the messages. Would definitely make it easier than to try to get everyone using Team to add the BL name/id to each and every message they enter.

Well you would know what side your on so i do not see a reason why you would need to know R G B etc.. you will not be able to see the other teams team chat.

Maybe add in a cd or a number of times you can use /t so you cant simply spam it. Making it more of a pure call out tool not some places to chat. So kind of like /m or even /s if you spam it but a lot more harsher with its set number.

It’s not about knowing what side you’re on… It’s about knowing what map the message is coming from. If someone says “south Bay under attack”… with the tag in front of the message everyone can see right away what BL it’s on instead of the caller having to also type in the BL. Just a couple keystrokes yes, but handy if it’s already tagged to the front of the message.

lol…. For all the different people I’ve played with now I really have to wonder what plans could possibly be “stolen”. There are a few play styles… that’s it… and every server has them. I mean it’s not like you suddenly KNOW all the troop movements and can counter everything they do and stomp them along the way. Heck, steal all of my ideas please and meet me exactly where you expect to find me and give me a good fight!

Shrine Buffs Problem

oh groan, bloodlust? lol well yes there is that…ok I retract my “all buffs” comment… but that is the ONLY buff that actually tells you when you or someone else gets it. All your other buffs are there until they timeout etc. Totally valid without regard to bloodlust.

At the end of the day all but this buff are ones that you yourself has to monitor and pop them when you need to (if skill related), or click the utility or food etc etc.

I mean you could split hairs if you really want to but… bloodlust is the only buff that actually clearly tells you who just got it.

Whether held by objective or not… it’s still up to YOU to check to see if it’s usable or not.

Just like your food and utility buffs… they time out as well. Your skill buffs, same thing.. It’s all about paying attention and when it comes to the shrines you must pay attention and NOT rely on them being or not being there.

What would be the point of having a buff that never goes away? Now that would just cause tons of forum entries in itself. No, the point of having these shrines the way they are is to that you CAN get buffs if you want to but you have to work for it, and keep an eye on them so you can use them when you need to…

Or you could do what most people probably do which is to NOT be concerned with these fleeting buffs most of the time; use them when you can; carry on…

Please refer to my previous post. I’m not saying that the buff should NEVER go away, just that it should not go away with no warning whatsoever.

The Desert borderland Shrine buffs are such that it’s impossible to rely on them.

Conclusion

  • I believe that if there is to be a buff, it needs to be reliable, not one that could just vanish when it is needed as part of a strategy.
  • The “zero fall damage”, “safe lava/portals”, and “invisibility cloud” are all great ideas, but they aren’t implemented in a practical manner.
  • Numerical bonuses would be more appropriate for the “maybe it’s on, maybe it’s off, who cares, it’s just a bonus” nature of the Shrines.

Actually it’s quite the opposite. They are very easy to spot when available and very easy to rely on, when available.

- You can see the ‘fall damage’ buff in your list of buffs
- You can see the fog easily
- You can see the ‘Lava Portal’ text over the portal if it’s available.

Also, one very quick glance at the map will tell you if the required Shrine(s) are yours.

It’s NOT difficult at all. Seriously if you can’t see when they’re available and make use of them accordingly then you really just need more time getting used to what to look for at a glance.

Server Linking Discussion

1000 players is pretty small. I thought.

I do agree, WvW requires easily 3-5k players. The maps as they are now requires roughly 54k player hours to maximize output. If an entire side of only 1k had to cover the maps we have now, you’d have to play roughly 7 hours per day, 7 days per week. It would be nothing more than “OT Wars 2 : the Zombie Apocalypse”. All this illustrates is, is that the Dev’s are looking at population poorly. The map queues should be the only limitation.

sry, I was more imagining the attempt to have 1000 players in a match. Sure there’s lots across servers of course, but all in one spot? sheesh people cry about lag when you get 3 groups of 50 together… :P

Server Linking Discussion

Hey everyone,

I wanted to address the idea of moving world linking to monthly instead of every 2 months, since it is being brought up more and more frequently.

After all is said and done it really doesn’t matter at all whether it’s 1 month, 2 months, 3 months… the ‘slave’ servers will be tossed around from time to time in an attempt to balance something out. How in the world can a “team” of host and hosted actually produce valid results when they could very well be separated at next linking?

I’ve tried real hard to work WITH this link-up thing and it’s a lot more of an annoyance than anything else. How do you actually know what a WvW population of a hosted server is anyway? At least a valid count… you don’t because many many people bounce from server to server in that wunnerful bandwagon to join up with the host that is either full or too expensive for them to join directly.

I’ve said it before… I used to play almost ALL of my time in WvW… since linking I now go into WvW maybe 20-30% of my time in GW2 and ONLY if certain friends are in. A good number of the host players aren’t interested in the linked server and many make it clear. Getting the kind of help we used to get from our own server doesn’t exist like it used to.

I’ll stop rambling… at the end of the day you will do what you want.

imo, relink all you want, it really makes zero difference to the slave servers.

There used to be a guy you could talk to, to convert the old guild influenced to favor. Is this not possible anymore? … and if you have influence left over it’s too bad???

Ancient Mursatt Relic?

It says:
“Accounts with Out of the Shadows completion will not see this item in the vendor listing.
The Mursaat Relic acts as an alternative way of collection Unbound Magic for players that haven’t completed Out of the Shadows.”

Which explains why I’ve never seen this item…

Need open Gliding at wvw (ex: home map)

Right now gliding is disabled in your home instances. All that really needs to be done is have gliding disabled while within any Keep, or SM. But as noted above, that would also take time programming and truly there are much more important things to work on. Not sure what those are since it mostly seems to be things we’re not asking for.. lol… but, ah well… time to go shoot something… or someone… again!

Suggestion to Improve Server Linking

@XTD – actually one of the best ideas I’ve seen in here so far. As a person who’s in the linkup with Mag (many of whom make it clear almost daily that they got to T1 alone and actually ask BP folks to leave a BL if they want “their” people to be able to get in.. lol )…

It would be nice to see something like what you’re suggesting. To me it makes more sense, period.

Getting the ‘low’ servers off of the highest servers would definitely go a good distance in slowing down the bandwagoning of people popping onto the ‘low’ servers because it’s cheaper (500 gems instead of 1000 or 1800).
Leave the high servers alone to do their things as they always have since they aren’t the ones that actually had any issues with numbers…. and so on…

lolol… ok this is a funny one.. I’ve mained Ranger/Druid for ages… got a good build… but… lately I’m using my Necro. I see this post that basically says don’t use staff?

So this druid comes up to me 1v1 from behind, takes me half down, me and my staff with signets… and… Druid is OP? really? this guy must really suck then ’cause even half way down he was under my foot shortly while his pet tried to kiss my butt.

I took him 1/4 down with staff, another 1/2 with shroud, then switched back for fun and hit 2 3 4 staff then stomp… was not much of a fight really.

Like I said, he’s either that bad, or Druid isn’t as bad as all that… and I play one… but so far mine hasn’t fallen that fast to a Necro… so far.. :P

Are servers just a name now?

“Server Pride”… That thing that so many people who don’t care what server they’re on have always called non-existent. Well, it used to exist in a big way and probably on most servers by core groups in each server. For the ‘slave’ server that I belong to since the linking and relinking and relinking I’ve seen a very large number of the people I used to see in WvW simply stop playing in there except maybe to do some guild missions for the Hall and commendations etc.

I’m sure there are groups that still form but I almost never see them from my server. And frankly the server we are currently linked with has a very large number of people who have made it clear many times that we’re not needed. Many times I experience one of three things, 1. silence, 2. rude comments, 3. good to see you.. #3 rarely and only happens when people that know me are on.

This isn’t unique to me as I get many such comments from other people on my server about this sort of thing. I also know of at least 10 people myself that don’t even play gw2 anymore and a lot more who went from playing WvW many hours a day, down to a couple hours here and there for missions.

Server pride? I remember it well.

Despite Tiff being right that the Druid is just out classed in usability. Let’s discuss the type of player that goes to Druid/ranger. Most of them/you (Truefailure) tend to be the guys who can’t grasp proper movement for classes that have short range (necro @ 900) and so you had to go for something with 1500 range.

lol… oh yes that describes EVERYONE that plays Ranger. No I simply like Ranger, always have, other games call them Hunter and so on. Nothing to do with not playing other classes. My other favorite class actually IS my Necro. Have a lot of fun with it and so on. But as the OP says, Ranger/Druid isn’t part of the Current Meta and could actually use some improvements to make it viable in a zerg. In the meantime we will pewpew where we can in small groups etc. and not because we can’t figure out other classes… really it’s just because it’s fun to play. If you can’t grasp that thought it’s ok though, I still respect the input you give that IS constructive.. when I find it.

@Tiffanny… Well said, and I agree. As much as I love my Ranger I put it on the shelf and bring out the Rev when it’s time for some zerg droning. Much more fun with that baby on the front line. Then again if I really really just want to run my Ranger I either do the roaming thing with a few others, or just run quietly on the backline of a zerg for some fun without joining the squad.

No big zerg, I’m not saying that. I’m not talking about a backline.. I’m talking about fighting right in the middle of a group of about 15 with a group of almost that much with me. I killed 3 people before they got me. No backline here, just in your face skirmish.

All kinds of explanations… hmmm.. nobody shot at me cause I was invisible the whole time? I dodge and weave like Ali?.. oh you say because they saw a Ranger they ignored me? Well that’s just awesome if it’s true and not very smart on their part since any class is very dangerous if you ignore it!

Or maybe I just fight with my class not too bad and put out a lot more damage than you think can be done. Either way the bottom line is, as I have even said above, it’s great for roaming and smaller groups… and I agree it’s not the best choice for supporting fellow drones in a zerg. Just a lot of fun, for me anyway.

ah the Ranger/Druid saga continues… Of all my classes, and I have them all, I still love my Ranger, now Druid, the most. Thanks to Jim and a couple of others I have tweaked it and it’s one nasty small to medium beast now. I’ve even had comments asking me how the h_ll did I survive when others died… and killed people. If I do ‘join’ a zerg it’s just tagging along and not joining the squad. I don’t need that to enjoy what I do. Get smokescale and bristleback and of course that nasty staff. The stats on the staff don’t appear to give you a lot of damage.. but when you hit someone with it.. it hurts.

Hey make a group of Rangers… we had like 6 Rangers/Druids running in a small group around DBL and took down this group of 12-15 3 times before they brought more people and “taught us a lesson”.. lol

I understand what the zergs want and need, and truly at the end of the day it’s not the Druid on the front line. Ya we can take out things from a distance, and power down this guy and that guy, but zergs want boon share, and the type of healing that comes from ele’s, guards, and even revs.

As some people have said, just play your style and enjoy it. If a zerg is ok with you in squad then power to ya… for me I only join a squad with my Ranger if the commander knows me… otherwise I mostly pewpew what I can and scout a lot for other map issues to report, and of course stragglers that need a quick shot in the… butt…
