I wouldn`t mind seeing the sword get some improvements. I love swords but I rarely use them because they feel too mechanical while the other weapons feel smoother in operation. I also notice the animations bug a lot when you try and move while using one. I get locked in place quite a bit more when using a sword over a mace or a hammer.

They could make a right click option that turns off the deposit flag option for an item. Or add an equip slot to the hero panel they fit into that makes then no deposit. Could add a few slots under the aquatic weapons for that if they really wanted to. Like a lock item option. I can`t tell you how many times I have gone to infuse quartz crystals only to have be deposited in my bank because I forgot to put them in my storage box.

I miss hero building. I loved the class mixing system and skill system. I loved completing a campaign for a token that could be traded in for cool looking item. I know they gave us a pact token but those items look kind of crappy compared to the deldrimor stuff from the original game.

Most of all I miss the stone summit. Killing those little guys never got old. Dire pets, the zoo island, the weapon dyes.

Plenty of valid reasons, but you have simply decided that nothing less than positive comments on mounts will do.

If there really were valid reasons people would bring them up. But so far 90% of the complaints I gave solutions for and the other 10% of the solutions could be tweaked into a more acceptable level if they really needed to. The only reasons people are posting are imbalance issues which can resolved with more thought and some people just don`t want to look at them and a hidemount option would solve that for them.

If you really want to contribute, come up with better arguments so that together we can try working on them to make them more acceptable. Complaining about warcraft and the absolute need to have one if they were added don`t hold any merit. But instead of contributing and trying to come up with solutions, some would rather them be ignored instead of having something added some people might like. There are already plenty of things in game that certain people don`t like or aren`t interested in.

Remember when they put the ascended stuff in the game? and how much people cried and whined because they didn`t want a treadmill? Well you can still play just fine without them minus the areas that need the agony resistance. Just because you add an additional option to the game doesn`t mean it`s something you need to do.

Come up with something different then what has already been mentioned. We can discuss how to improve it. And who knows maybe it might even be one of your ideas that gets it done. And it really isn`t that I don`t care what other players think. I do but I making compromises to accommodate them so everyone can be happy. some people just can`t accept that. Some people just aren`t happy unless they are not in the game at all.

If you want mounts so bad, then buy another game engine, buy more server space, pay the devs to adapt GW2 to that game engine and then pay them some more to develop mounts.

Why should I pay them? I`m the willing to spend money on them. That should be incentive enough. Nice try though. I smell a DWP.

“Wouldn’t be hard”? Lol. I’m not saying it’s a completely impossible feat, but I’m willing to bet it’s remarkably hard.

Even if it’s just OOC movement speed—which I already addressed, in terms of potential balance problems—if Guild Wars 2 starts implementing things into the gem store that give you a distinct in-game advantage (permanent OOC swiftness is a good example), then the game is completely switching directions. Permanent gathering is nice, but not that big of a deal. Being unable to keep up with a mounted zerg because I can’t afford to buy a mount? To me, that’s unacceptable. My real-life economic status shouldn’t affect my ability to succeed in a game.

You are the one who said it would be nigh impossible. And now that you see that it`s been done before on a dinosaur game engine your best response to that is “lol”

Your issues have remedies. I`m also pretty sure a mount wouldn`t be any huge investment. I mentioned they could have some for dungeon rewards gained with tokens. If you couldn`t pull yourself away from wvw long enough to get the tokens for a mount, then I don`t know what to tell you. Also the basic mounts would most likely be inexpensive so everyone could access them. The flashy cultural mounts would be the expensive ones. You get out of a game what you put into it. If you don`t want to put any investment into getting a mount then don`t. But don`t use that an excuse for people not being able to get them if they want.

I mean if you really want to, then have mounts unavailable in wvw. Problem solved along with angering any pvper that would want one. But just for you I`ll add in this rule to see what you respond with next.

Not really. You mentioned you`d rather have devs work on other things. You also feel because the majority of posters complain against them somehow makes them an unjustified addon. You also seemed a little bitter because I gave solutions to the complaints people had and that wasn`t what you wanted to hear. I made compromises that would cater to everyone that are pretty good ideas based off experience in past games. But the truth of it is that if you don`t like mounts, you wouldn`t ever need to deal with them. Only people who want to can. It doesn`t get any simpler then that. A lot of people disagree just for the sake of argument, but at least come up with valid ones.

If mounts were instituted in this game, I would want them to be cosmetic-only.

Having mounts that provide a speed boost would destroy the innate mobility (or lack thereof) that classes are supposed to have. Mesmers, for instance, are designed without much OOC mobility, but Thieves have quite a lot. Mounts would render that completely moot. And creating a “hide mounts” option for mounts that not only change player height and movement position, but also provide a speed boost? I can’t even fathom the programming that would require, but I’m willing to bet it’s nigh impossible.

Also, the lag that would be caused by hundreds of mounted players in a single location—like, say, a zerg—is unimaginable. My computer already runs hot in world events; I really don’t need it melting because 2,000 people are riding dolyaks or pandas or obese Mongolian turtles.

All of that aside, however, I’d much rather see ArenaNet working on the plethora of bugs and balance issues in this game than spend hundreds upon hundreds of hours on unnecessary mounts.

Sony did it with everquest 2, the hidemounts option that makes people appear to be on foot. You could play the game and never see a single mount ever. Pretty much anything you could possibly think of could be added to the game engine. These guys are professionals and something like that wouldn`t be hard for them to do at all. Think of how much they made possible to happen in the game already, then think about a small option like that and you think it`s impossible?

The speed boost is only really going to be beneficial out of combat. even on a mount if you were hit, it would put you into the slow running combat speed just like any other boost already does. I even mentioned a casting time so a mount couldn`t be abused in wvw with no combat allowed on it. Those two options make a mount on equal ground with any other speed buff in the game pretty much.

I`d like arenanet to fix bugs too but a lot of the raw material to make them are already ingame, so why not use them. If all devs ever did fulltime was fix bugs and balance issues, we would never get any new content or new options added to the game.

Monthly subs are a fading trend in the mmo industry. Nobody likes paying rent for a game they buy. Make some things for the gemshop that people will actually want and the money will flow. Make expansions like nightfall and factions and even more money will flow. A monthly fee to unlock content would only be a nail in it`s coffin.

In DAOC I once drove a battering ram by myself, with my torch lit, to another tower and tried to take it solo. Didn`t work but the ram was so slow it took like 20 minutes to get it there.

Let the players do what they want. Nobody really cares if someone summons a mount every 10 feet. This sounds more like a personal preference over a valid reason.

Also I don’t want to make Mounts appear as mandatory upgrade of your characters progression. They being limited on areas that support them, as part of the area, and all you have to do is keep the events of that area to your favor allows pretty much everyone to use them at any time for that area,

Mounts wouldn`t be a mandatory upgrade for anyone. Fractals aren`t mandatory, crafting isn`t mandatory. This only limits an otherwise fun thing with things that make it not so much fun. If I wanna ride my dolyak, I don`t want to be restricted to the shiverpeaks with it. I don`t think anyone in lions arch is going to really care if you have a mount or not.

Perhaps the could be a way for players to summon from a stable their own mount instead of the one the area gives them, as long as it has the same limitations.
I don’t want Mounted characters to gave some unfair advantage over walking characters, so I want them to consider “not mounting” to travel certain distances, or on certain places.
It’s not like the mount will go away the moment you dismount. It’ll just stay in place waiting for you (for about half an hour) until you come back to it, or go to another stable to get another mount

Would probably be better to keep your mount in your inventory or have mount tab in your hero panel. That way you can summon whatever you want anytime. While on the subject of players having unfair advantages, some classes have speed signets and others do not. What do you think about that? should arenaet strip those signets from the classes just so everyone can run the same speed? Don`t think so. And with you wanting players to consider running, you really can`t make decisions on how players are to play. What does it matter to you if I wanna ride while decide to walk? Kind of a crappy idea.

When you dismount the mount should really go poof and disappear. This isn`t skyrim where you climb a mountain and go back down to get your horse. This is an mmo where people bounce and go all over the place. The only thing this would do is have a ton of mounts standing around zones taking up space and wasting resrouces. You ever play Neverwinter? You ever see all the pets that are standing idle at the port gate to the city? It ridiculous and isn`t even something they should consider.

Since the game has so many WP there is no real need for Mount transportation (With the exception of WvW). Mounts will be mostly added for looks and realism, and if my suggestion passes, they’ll be used as a mechanic similar to how some environmental weapons work.
Summoning a mount out of thin air bellow your legs isn’t very natural

Wait, how can you justify mounts for wvw with one map versus like 18 zones? This also boils down to the “you play your way” theme the game is supposed to support. All of these reasons you have written really don`t make any sense and would just annoy the players instead of making them happy. I really could care less about summoning animations. I know this isn`t skyrim and the old poof out of thin air has worked in dozens of games in the past and would work here as well. Would also cut costs of having to create a mount and dismount animation for every class for every mount.

Them controlling like vehicles (hopefully having momentum and stopping speed values as well) instead of walking characters will put some much needed variety in GW2 controls. Pretty much all minigame-like events and activities in the game put you in the shoes of your own character with some different skills and skins. No mater how good the GW2 controls are, they can get very tiresome after a couple of years of play, and controlling something different for once would be a nice variation.
Also that way A-net can play of on the attributes of each mount by making them having different speeds, turning faster or slower, and the time it takes to stop depending on their momentum. Mounting a goat should feel different than mounting a horse

Normally I would agree on this on but you have to remember this an mmo. To count on a developer to make fine tuning adjustments on mount handling would end up in disaster. Mounts that don`t handle as well as others and you just made them worthless. Everyone will go for the mounts that handle the quickest. This is awesome idea for gta and that`s why they do it, but in this game it would probably be best to make them all turn and stop the same way. That way every mount is viable and functions smoothly

If there ever would be mounts in the game why couldn`t they just be normal mounts? Why couldn`t I ride whatever mount I had in whatever zone I liked? Why couldn`t my mount travel with me? Why would mounts have to be area specific? Why wouldn`t I be able to summon my mount? I can`t really think of any gamebreaking reasons to have those limitations in place.

You obviously put some thought into the activities you mentioned. But you put like zero thought into all the limitations and didn`t even bother listing why the limitation would need to be in place. Looks like you just want them for mini events and puzzles instead of actual functionality. I have nothing against mini events and puzzles but I`d take a functional mount over mini games and puzzles any day.

I think mounts should be for looks only. It could cause more problems such as players beating players to bosses or mobs and killing them first out fo spite. For those of you who want a fast travel mount go buy a broom equip it then use a waypoint and there you have it a fast traveling mount.

Well, it can go both ways. some classes have a speed signet that can be used for this same reason. But I wouldn`t want what they have taken away. A mount having a swiftness just enables everyone to have an equipped boost for movement if they would want it. Please keep in mind that people can use already use existing speed buffs. Also keep in mind that mounts would have limitations. It couldn`t be used in combat and would no way take the place of skills like retreat that are instant cast buffs that can be used in combat and anywhere in game.

My ideas in case they have been overlooked again.

1. Mounts give permanent swiftness while active. Mounts will not increase the run speed when used with player buffs. Highest speed % will overwrite the others.

2. Mounts cannot be used in combat, you would need to dismount to fight.

3. A hidemounts toggle in the options so people who don`t like them won`t have to look at them.

4. Make the mount casting animation a two to three second cast so it could not be abused and only used for it`s intended purpose.

5. Add dungeon mounts that can be had for tokens, cultural mounts in home cities, mounts sold at vendors for gold, optional mounts in gemshop.

6. Mount race events simaler to guild rushes.

Could go on and on but a few of these suggestions provide a remedy to current complaints.

Either way, arguing about it is pointless, it will keep this thread up forever and both sides will never see eye to eye anyway.

I believe we can have constructive discussion. Some people have reasons they don`t want them and some people do want them. This is how we iron out the potential problems that could possibly occur. And maybe, just maybe. Arenanet may read the thread and get some ideas from our conversations. So far people presented some reasons for being against them and so far I have come up with solutions for those issues. If we come up with more reasons and solutions, we get a step closer to making progress.

I went to the park today to rent a horse for a trail ride. I asked the attendant how much for a Guild Wars 2 horse? He wasn`t sure what exactly I was asking. So I told him I wanted a horse that was basicially worthless I could just sit on. He was still a bit confused. So I told him Synesence says that I can either have a horse for looks or one that works but not both. The attendant had me ejected from the park.

The other day I wanted to do AC path 2. So I entered AC and advertised for a party with is ad. Path 2 lvl 80 experienced, tired of explaining. The group filled up then suddenly I was standing back outside in the plains of ashford and someone changed the add to path 1 and 3. So I left the group and entered ac again to start another and used the same thing and people join and all choose different paths then what I advertised for.

The tool is nice for finding people but some of the people you wind up with are knuckleheads.

Please enable some sort of tooltip in the dungeon finder that tells players that fractals are recommended for lvl 80. A lot of newer players join the 1-9 scale thinking that is the level they should be to participate. They just wind up getting kicked because they don`t know.

I don`t think making Orr more soloable is going to help anything much. people stay away from it for a reason. It is one of the most annoying zones in the game. From the annoying skills the mobs spam on you to the rate at which they respawn doesn`t make it a fun place to frequent. After coming back from a break from the game I noticed my damage was different to mobs in Orr and some events were buffed making them even more difficult for a solo player then it was before. You don`t see many people going there unless there are taking a temple and even then they shouldn`t be made for solo players.

I`m not really sure what they could do to make it a fun place to go. I stay away from the place. But with all the statues that grow vines and other stuff, it`s easier for me just to avoid the place. even when I go there I don`t normally see many people unless they are doing one of the temples like dwayna. But for being the top lvl areas, most people avoid it.

No mounts. I refuse to search for a key npc stuck underneath a pile of walrus dragons let alone having them cloud my visual view of the game world. It is never going to happen just like having dedicated healers. This topic has been beaten into dust, let it die already.

Nah, I`m gonna beat this topic like a redheaded stepchild on Christmas morning. We already have plenty of oversized norn players that like to stand right on top of npcs. Good thing just standing near them and hitting E targets them and not the players. For every possible complaint you could come up with I have a solution.

The argument that mounts would make the game easy, is a narrow view.

If mobs are able to knock you off the mount, that would solve a part of it.
You would not be able to mount, if you are in combat, solves another part.
Furthermore, certain areas should be not accessible with a mount. Like dungeons and such.
Areas inaccessible with a mount, will automatically dismount you.
Quality of the mounts, could be determined by their speed, and their ability to resist against being knocked off. (like, low level mobs, but high level mobs will always be able to knock you off)

With some imagination, anything is possible, without sacrificing gameplay, or making it easier.

The games AI can’t seem to react fast eighth players running by for mounts to work.

Even if a enemy could knock a players off of a mount. The enemies AI would not have time to use that ability. If mount is faster than swiftness.

How is this really any different then running by mobs with staff swiftness or a speed signet?

Anet needs to make some content harder so players using swiftness can’t just run past enemies. Good open world raid won’t happen until then.

Anet wants players to go into combat stance because they do not want you just running through mobs .

That doesn`t really answer the question. I can outrun mobs as it is now without any swiftness at all.

It’s still hard to avoid large groups of enemies using swiftness. If they are directly in your path with no way around. Mounts faster than swiftness would be game breaking in my opinion. As they can ride through enemies easily.

Players should be a little scared of dieing in hard areas. Fast mount take that fear away from the player.

Mounts also make gathering too fast and easy.

I don`t think you have read anything besides what you want to see or you just haven`t read the ideas at all. Every player has swiftness or a speed signet. The mounts swiftness buff is always in effect while the mount is active and will not stack and overwrite any buffs the player already has. So the speed cap is what? 25-33%?This a more valuable effect to players who do not have a speed signet. And even players that do have signets could use something different in place of it if they had a mount if they wanted to. They would just lose speed if they dismounted without their signet. Either way speed and swiftness are in the game and they aren`t going anywhere. Even on a mount if you get hit it`s going to give you same slow running effect that`s in the game now. So it isn`t like a mount is going to give you CC free movement. This is an alternative to having to keep buffing your self with a staff or horn every 10 seconds and also looks pretty cool in the process.

I played GW from start till GW2, but I’d like to see mounts in GW2.

What I do not like however, is other people determining what I would or would not like.

I’ve seen a lot of petty arguments in this thread why it should not be added, but this just tops it. It makes no sense at all.

I did say what you would like or not like. You should know by now what happens when someone brings up mounts.

Some areas are meant to be challenging like temples. But if players are just riding past most of the enemies. Those areas are too easy.

Yeah but you can already run past mobs with swiftness. There isn`t a difference. And if there was they would take swiftness out of the game because it makes it too easy.

Well, considering that the OP has made no further contributions to this thread in any shape or form since he started it, it should just be allowed to die since he clearly wasn’t bothered about engaging in any meaningful discussion over it. It seems that it’s only really you and the odd drive-by supporter who’s keeping this thread on life support now.

I think I pretty much covered everything. Even if the OP didn`t add anything other the threads birth, it still lets anet know that people are interested in them and that there are people who don`t want the interested people to have them.

Not really anything wrong in discussing it, that`s what a suggestion forum is for. Just at the moment the majority of people that post in the forums at this time don`t like the idea. But if you notice it`s the same 50 or so people and that in no way reflects the games entire playerbase. I know quite a few people who are interested in them but at the same time they don`t wanna be bothered with a forum battle. Perhaps if more people who liked the idea came forward instead of just sitting silent, this could be taken more seriously. But instead the thread gets “this is dumb or worthless” Which I could say the majority of suggestion in this forum but I don`t.

Also if I were a dev and I saw a certain topic has come up 46 times, I think I would take serious look into it.

I was able to solo the personal story except the last mission where you fight the draagon. It might have been the last two I needed help with. The later parts of the story can indeed be tough. Don`t expect to stand toe to toe and melt it. I did plenty of running away because I was getting swamped. You are right when you say the npc`s are worthless because 90% of the time they just stand there or die fast. Me a few friends call Logan Captain Worthless because in the missions he aids you, that is pretty much what he is. Just keep trying and reset mobs if you need to. Or you can use the lfg tool and ask for help or meet some people doing the same mission.

How many people are going around LA with the broom or the drill? Not very many.

I don`t think you see many brooms because that item seems to me like it is aimed for young girls. I`m not really sure how many girls under the age of 16 play but I would guess that would be the age range that would want something like that. Most of the females I have met ingame and in my guild are married women. they would buy a pretty dress before they got a broom.

I never saw the drill. But my guess is because it really has no point that people won`t spend money on it. Something like that seems to aimed at the 16 and under boy players. I imagine a lot of male teens play but 80% of the people I know are adults in their 30`s and 40`s like myself. I wouldn`t buy a broom or a drill because I think it`s kind of cheesey. But a functional mount is something myself and a lot of friends I know would be interested in. I realize arenanet makes a lot cheesey items for impulse buys from a younger audience. But us older players take a bit more coaxing and it has to be something good to get us to spend.

Emphasis on some. The majority of GW2 players could not give a toss about mounts or how other MMOs are somehow uber-amazing because they have sparkly flying unicorns for $18 each.

I`ll bet there are more people interested in them then you think. The amount of people that play versus people that frequent and post in the forums is probably quite large.

Suggestions for race specific mounts:
Human – Horse
Charr – Tank (some sort of machinery)
Asura – Motorbike (In a transforming golem style)
Sylvari – Oakhearts
Norn – Warg (Or a really big wolf)

I didn`t think about the oakhearts, that`s a good idea. Be funny to see one move fast for a change. I always thought of the charr riding devourers since they had a bond with them in the first game. But the tanks are a neat idea too. The wargs are naturally evil so it would be kind of strange for them to be a norn racial mount. But they could be added as normal ones everyone could access. The dolyak seem the perfect choice for them. I imagined the asura using some kind of levitating disc like how the broom floats, but with little lights on it. Sort of like standing on a mini flying saucer or magic carpet. That and piggyback on special golems. You are right though, they could do all kinds of wonderful things with it.

That`s ok, if you don`t want one. You don`t have to buy one. If you don’t want to see one , turn off the graphic! Stay in your little cube and use waypoints till your hearts content. Oddly enough, but in forums (especially in suggestions themes) are extremely small percentage of the community. And many of the people sitting at the forum, in general, are just some kind of forum-warriors who would be opposite ANYTHING, for just to be able to argue with someone.

Ok here goes it. I am fine with mounts like what they have in the gem store or if they implemented something like they had in GW1. My problem is that the people that REALLY want mounts seem to have an all or nothing attitude. The fact that they want is SO bad seems to make them think that players that don’t want their vision should just deal with it.

Pretty simple question. The game – it the number of available options. If someone does not like something – he does not use it. He has the option – to use or not to use. It is unlikely that dev-s will force someone to use mounts. But if you like something and this is not exists – you have no options. This is not fair.

Whether you like it or not anything added to the game effects everyone. Does living story effect me even though I choose to ignore the content? Yes it does whether through prices in the tp or where the zerg train wants to be. There are far better things the developers could be spending their time on instead of mounts like commander tag improvements, new maps/races/professions. So yes the addition of mounts would effect every one either directly or indirectly.

Now the funny thing is. The commander tags, races and professions I could really care less about. I don`t have a commander tag and I don`t need one. I only play as a human so I`m set. Only play one profession so there isn`t anything for me worry about there. Do you see where I`m going with this? As much and as little as those things mean to me, I hope the players that are interested in them get what they want because it makes everyone happy. Won`t mean a squirt to me if they introduce a new race called Toadstool Jimmy because I won`t be playing it. But there might be plenty of people who wanna be one. Who am I to say they can`t?

English is not my first language so sorry if this doesn’t make sense.

Armor scales in a logarithmic way. This means that the more you invest in it, the less gain-per-given-investment you get. In other words, the 500 toughness points you invest to go from 2k to 2.5k armor give you more benefit than the same 500 points invested to go from 2.5k armor to 3k.

So when people say that the difference isn’t noticeable unless you reach crazy amounts of armor (+3.5k armor) it really baffles my mind.

With that mathematical consideration out of the way, toughness is far from useless, especially the first few hundred points you invest in it. Sure it won’t allow you to forget about dodging in PvE, but you also have to factor in the innate healing capabilities of each class.

Does this make Celestial Stats a more appealing proposition since the initial stats one invests have more impact?

I have the celestial breastplate, legs, and helm so far and I love them. I also have a celestial type ascended amulet and a ring. What I lose in some areas I make up for it in others and it really is a decent balance. To me it feels more rounded and adaptable for any situation.

From the start I always built around maxxing the toughness trait line and using armor that added to it. I never used anything else so I can`t really comment on how much damage I`s take without it. But I do notice I can handle damage better then some.

I got lucky finishing the world exploration. I would check into the maps from time to time to see if my side occupied any of the places I needed. It also changed the color of my team every week or so so I could get to the points and vistas that were normally occupied from a enemy faction. My only gripe was I didn`t know how to tell which color faction I was. When I started I was green, then a week later I was blue, then when I thought I was still blue, I was red. Most of the time I didn`t run into any problems getting the points of interest or the vistas. Every once in awhile I`d run across a few people who were determined to not let get them but then I would just save it for another day. Glad I`m done with it.

There isn`t anything to deal with! You don`t like them? Turn them off! You can have mounts in the game and never see a single one. For something that would effect you in 0% way, people sure like to argue against it. This topic is to let arenanet know there is a % of players who would like them and are more then willing to open up their wallets. Have some on vendors , have some in the gemshop, everyones happy. Hell. I never bought anything from the gw store until they came out with the costumes, then I bought like 5 of them. For my account.

People got upset when fractals were added. Now we have them and the game is still the same and you needn’t ever do a single one unless you want to. This is more options added to the game but realize it is still only an option, not something mandatory you need to have or do.

Just look at every game that offers mounts. Whether people want them or not, they sell and people use them. I can grasp fine that people don`t want to have mounts. but what you fail to understand is that just because you don`t want it doesn`t mean I shouldn`t be able to have it. Come up with better constructive arguments then just not wanting just because. That really don`t help the naysayers case any. I have laid out perfectly acceptable means that would accommodate everyone. Now if you still can`t see that and still want to argue, then you are one of those people that can`t be pleased no matter what.

the devs are probably watching this thread wondering why they didn`t come up with half the ideas I wrote.

Yeah mount`s shouldn`t be limited to just animals either. They have the char tanks, golems and all other kinds of tech in the game that could be adapted. There could be something for everyone I`m sure.

This might be considered mounts but I thought an of idea for an event to kill thse pesky champion megalodons that one shot you all the time. Have a pirate ship event to kill the sharks and have it full of harpoon cannons. also have people steer the boat to keep the shark in range while the players try and kill it before it eats the boat. and have npc` throw out a bunch of one liners from jaws while its going on. Would be a blast. Could do the event with the members of destinys edge.
