So that is her name! Well Jennifer doesn`t know it yet but she is going to be my future wife if she looks half as good as she sounds haha! Just need to meet her father and barter a proposal to him to make the engagement. It`s been years since I`ve done this sort of thing though, How many dolyaks and how much iron ore would be an acceptable offer to her family for her hand?
Full sized Norn on a mount would take up a significant portion of your screen if you were near one, traveling behind one and so forth. Also I don’t want them because I don’t care for the way they look and the extra screen clutter.
I have an easy solution for that! In eq2 in your options menu you could disable mount visuals so even if people were on mounts, you wouldn`t see them. Kind of like how your hide helmet options work. Still not really a valid excuse other then personal taste which could be remedied with one button press. keep em coming!
My last few tries at Teq ended up with me zoning into an overflow and seeing about 5 other people. The event starts and like 6 of us run around and kill stuff. As a few minutes pass more people arrive but by that time it`s a total clusterkitten.
I don`t want to have to guest on a different server just to get a kill. I`d prefer to win it with faces and names I see on a daily basis, my servers brothers and sisters.

I don’t think the game was designed for mounts, just a guess. Also how you going to dump tons of your game coin on gates if you got a mount?
Ok we have a huge gameworld we can travel through. They put waypoints everywhere for convenience which is awesome if I need to be somewhere right now. But 70% of my time ingame, I don`t need to be anywhere right now fast. I run around the different maps and do some events, harvest, go afk, and complain that I`ll never get the last few points of interest and vistas I need from the wvw maps. And if you never noticed me doing these before, you`ll probably not notice me do it on a mount either until the shock of seeing one ingame wears off.
Terrible Idea. We have waypoints and speedskills, that works perfectly. Movement mounts are only gimmick items. I can already see the graphic polution in front of me, an army of Big doliaks standing in front of me and griphons skydiving on my head. No thx :-) Not to think of the performance lag it can bring with a big dynamic.
That is like saying because you own a bicycle you aren`t allowed to drive a car. I also doubt you`ll see any performance hit at all. If your pc can handle wvw with no lag, a few mounts here and there aren`t going to impact your performance. Sounds to me you just don`t want them because you don`t like them. That still doesn`t justify why people who do want them can`t have them.
Mounts in GW2 would take away much of the epic feeling you get when exploring the world and admiring the beautiful GW2 architecture.. Also, according to lore, there aren’t any mounts really, unless you think about the Charr machinery etc
Personally I think its fine just the way it is, although for aesthetic reasons, like the broom etc with no extra speed, that’s pretty cool.
Well I asked in the thread for valid reasons not to have mounts and so far none of you could come up with one yet. Seems like you guys just want to make your own opinion heard so bad that you are blurting out nonsense excuses. You could have your epic feeling running around. while I after experiencing the epic feeling for hundreds of hours would like to move about a little faster without being limited to using the waypoints.
So I `ll ask again. Why exactly couldn`t we have mounts and how would me having one impact you in a negative way? And don`t say we already waypoints because that doesn`t matter. Don`t say because of lore because we have plushie backpacks and freakin bunny ears but you don`t see me voting the people who like that stuff can`t have it. It don`t effect me one bit if you want to wear bunny ears, I`m not the one using them. So come on angry masses, come up with good reasons instead of the lame excuses you have been throwing into the thread.
They had little animations you could buy in Aion. They seemed pretty popular and people liked them. If I remember right, sometimes you got an animation as a drop or reward that was a temporary thing to preview before you decided to buy it. I could see them doing something like that.
I always like in doo how you could search for hidden areas and traps. Maybe if they added a search hotkey the animation could be holding a torch with your character hunched over looking around.
I like idea too that have for some of the particle effects weapons. I have the cobalt sword then when drawn lights up the area. If they had a light hotkey like daoc and eq2 has,I wouldn`t need to up the brightness in dungeons cause some some are so dark in areas and I cannot see. I like being able to see but upping the gamma ruins the immersion of going through a dungeon.

This thread is asking why you can use a shield but get stuck with jank mechanics with it when they obviously put more thought into all the other weapon skills in the game. Using right click to block is only an example because most of the other games with an active block bind the key to it.
Why can`t the block actually block? Why does everyone have to tack on some negative modifier in order to make something presentable? If I block something with my shield and it eats my endurance, then it should count as a full block as if it were a dodge completely negating the hit.
And then you only add the option to dodge without moving (which isn’t necessarily bad). If we have to discuss a new mechanic, we should at least make it, well, new ^^’
GW1 had block and dodge working the same way. They quickly removed dodge, realizing the semantic difference was serving no purpose.
So while putting a negative modifier isn’t necessary, making block distinct from dodge is. Putting a negative modifier and reducing the cost is a way to make this distinction.
Block and dodge are indeed two different things. Dodging is you physically moving out of the way to avoid damage and blocking is negating damage by using your shield to absorb the hit. You really don`t need to add negatives to just add the illusion of difference.
I like that idea. But I would like to have a torch hotkey that you could just press to equip the light source so you wouldn`t have to keep opening your bags to equip a normal torch. Hell, I`d love a toggled lightsource so I don`t have to do dungeons all the time with the gamma jacked up.

How blocking should work.
- The block mechanic would be key bind to “right mouse click” (sense this key currently does nothing in game)
- Blocking a attack would reduce your stamina by 1/10 it’s total amount.
- Damage is reduce by 50% for block attacks.
- Push back effects have there distance reduce by 50% and don’t knock you down.
- If you or currently using a shield damage reduce and distance reduction is improve both to 75% each, and Stamina cost is reduce to 1/20.

I think it would be nice if our trait allocation button were always active. That way you can add or subtract points from one to trait to another out of combat and you`ll have more freedom to experiment using different templates. I also like the idea of the template swap like we had in guild wars with them being saved.
I don`t think nerfing crit damage is going to solve anything. They should increase the benefits of the other stats so they feel more inline and scale better. Then they would be more appealing to use and people would be a little more diverse in gear selection.

I might be misunderstanding you but the skills I was referring to aren’t boons and have nothing to do with aegis.. You press the button and for 2 seconds the character uses his/her weapon to block an attack. I really don’t see a difference between that and what you’re saying. Just re-bind your keys if you want it on your mouse buttons. :S
I never played a Mesmer actually. But WTF you can hold an active block with a scepter and my guardian cant with a shield?
A block buff isn`t really considered an active block because you rely on a cooldown and after you use it, it becomes inactive until it refreshes.. it`s just a buff. I am referring to holding down my right mouse button and I wilk hold up my shield and block every single attack thrown at me until I release my button. Look at how you can block in ddo, raiderz, neverwinter, oblivion, skyrim, vindictus, and god knows how many others. That is active block.

Tyria doesnt need them. The only people that want mounts r the ones that say “OMG thats 2 silver to wp across the world? I’m now broke cause I have 2 silver less than 100 gold. DX”
What is the point of a mount if it doesn`t have a speedbuff? Mounts wouldn`t make waypoints disappear you know. You could still take a waypoint while I ride my horse wherever I wanted to. For a “play your way” kind of game, some of you guys sure like being limited a lot. I myself don`t like limitations I like freedom of choice and options. Answer me this though, and try to come up with your best justifiable answer, not just duh we have waypoints already! Ok, here is the question to answer, more like a scenario I guess. You are running around fireheart rise playing the game doing events or whatever. You look up and see me ride by on a horse! How does that effect how you play the game in a negative way. I`d love to hear an answer besides that we already have waypoints. Plenty of other games had waypoints and fast travel but still had mounts for the playerbase that liked them. Let`s hear these answers!
The so called champ trains are a good reason not to. If there were mounts ppl with lots of money would get to the champ and have him dead before ppl that actually need the money or xp.
I don`t see it as a problem. There are plenty of other ways you can get gold and exp. Farming champs is just easier because you have dozens of other people helping doing the work for you. You`ll probably make more exp and gold in an hours worth of dungeon runs then you will farming champs.

Is that the best you got? Mounts have been in games a lot longer then world of warcraft. Everquest, Dark Age of Camelot? I think even lineage 2 was out before warcraft and that game had mounts and that game sucked! World of warcraft was the first mmo that mainstreamed the genre of game so it only natural most people only know mmo`s by that. But 3d mmo`s were around for years before warcraft was even thought of. Hell, some of the devs who made everquest went to work for blizzard to make warcraft.
So in short, you are saying that because of world of warcraft, I am not allowed to own a mount in guild wars 2 because we already have waypoints and everyone should just settle for that?

Haha. That is the most narrowminded excuse I have ever heard. You can`t have both! If Anet wanted to make some serious cash from their gemshop they would add mounts. They would sell like hotcakes. Even the people who say they don`t want them would probably see one they like and buy it. Until then it`s bunny ears and waypoints for everyone else.
Put them in the gem/store. Please now. That would take a lot of fun out of the mounts. Just like mini´s are no fun to collect now. It´s time Anet stops with it´s bad gem/store focus and go´s back to a real B2P model where they get income from expansion. Those mounts can then also be introduces in the expansions and you can get them in many ways in the game itself. Not from a boring gem-shop.
The gem-store focus is already destroying the game. Time for that to stop.
they could have a stables ingame where you could buy a horse for gold. But if I were a dev, I would put the real fancy mounts in the gemstore and make a few unique mounts that can be obtained from dungeon quests.
You also have to understand too that the gemshop is what is helping pay for some of the new content we get. You buy the game and there`s no monthly fee and so far all the content updates have been free. You don`t have to buy a questline or unlock a mission like some of the other mmo companies do. This is all free until they release an addon expansion like nightfall or factions. The only surefire way to generate money is to make fancy looking stuff and upgrades for the shop. In guild wars 1 I had a few different sets of eleite armor on my characters and when I saw the balthazaar costume I opened up my wallet and pulled out my credit card and that’s what they need to do to make money.

This is also no Vindictus but they had no problem copying the dodge and telegraph mechanics from that game did they?
I think it would have been cool if they did an active block like ddo had. Raiderz and Neverwinter had an ok block system too that felt more fun along with being able to dodge as well. Not sure why they didn`t do something like that here.

Absolutely no point in adding mounts.
There`s no point in adding boxing gloves, plush backpacks , and bunny ears but yet there they are.
As much as I miss the trinity. This game was designed for the people scorned from that kind of game. They really could have had a multiclass system where people could switch between roles. No luck finding a cleric? Hold on let me load my healing template and put on my healing gear and I`ll main heal. Can`t find a tank? Hold on let me load my tanking template and get my plate armor out of the bank, I`ll handle it. But they choose to go with this system. It`s probably for the best though. we can`t even change the attack skills on our hotbar. Imagine how screwed up a multiclass system would be with predefined skills as well.
I used a mace and shield for months after release because that`s what I wanted to use. The mace skills weren`t bad but the shield skills themselves aren`t the greatest. I can honestly contribute and help a group more just spamming the #1 hammer skill and they will have more protection and almost the same healing as a mace/shield setup. I`d love for them to make the offhand shield actually worth using over the hammer.
I was going to make a post about this as well but found this first. How come in the original guild wars we could change and save templates free of charge but here they want to gouge you for it? With all the possible builds, the template system should have been in this game from launch. I don`t even know why I need to go to a trainer to reset my traits. Why can`t the trait up and down allocation buttons be constantly turned on so I can adjust my style of play whenever I want to? If they want to make some money how about making some armor and weapon skins to sell. Respeccing shouldn`t cost anything.
I think when people say expansion they mean something the size and scope of how they did factions, nightfall, and eye of the north. There were pretty standalone games by themselves and huge. I really like how they linked all the worlds together and you could go wherever you wanted. That is what I think people are wanting when they say expansion. The small content here and there is nice but an expansion like we are used to would fly off the shelf like a blue light special. We do have a lot of areas on the map that are unacessable like the ring of fire and crystal desert, maybe they have some big plans for some of those places.
I agree that the visual updates on some of the guild wars weapons don`t look that good. In guild wars my favorite hammer used the magmaton model we have in gw2 but they added an ugly lava effect to it and now I don`t even want the hammer once I saw it. The ball hammer they use for the punisher model doesn`t look as nice as the one from the original too. I have nothing against weapons with the goofy effects on them for the people who are into that. I do think they could add a legacy line of items that look identical to the originals but have updates for reflection and gloss.

Ok I figured there was probably going to be some long drawn out process involved in this. A question about the mystic forge since I have never used it. If I happened to get my hands on everything I needed to make the combine, does the combine have a chance to fail or is this something that is sure fire to create everytime its done? I personally have stayed away from the forge and don`t have any experience with it.
I have been doing some fractals to get the exotic back slot item. When I look on the vendor though the items don`t have a rune slot on them. So if I did get an exotic back item it would actually be a downgrade because my current green back slot has an exotic jewel in it. Is there another vendor somewhere that has back item with upgrade slots or is it just the ones on the vendor in the fractals?
The whole idea of gw2`s open world gameplay is for the players to have something to do together. Farming champions is no different then a zerg roving from place to place and doing events like when the game was new. It adds a bit of fun for a player made event that everyone can participate in. Whether you do or you don`t is up to you but I don`t see anything that needs fixing.
Most people you will run a dungeon with that see you in cinema mode won`t say anything. By being in cinema mode most will probably know that you haven`t seen it before and wanted to watch it. I have never ran a dungeon where anyone said anything to people watching the cinema events. So don`t worry about it.
We never had waypoint or repair costs in the original guild wars so why is it here now? I can die and have a waypoint like 20 feet away and still need to pay 1 1/2 silver just to rez. so I can continue or I can do like everyone else will say and just lay there hoping someone will come along and rez me or spam map chat for help. The farther away you port the more it costs and I have paid up 4 silver just to travel. It`s a joke. It`s just like when I played lineage 2 and you fought in the arena, if you died it spawned you next to an npc that would refill your health for a gold fee or you would have to sit for 10 minutes waiting for your health to recover. Who came up with that idea? I think anets been playing too many asian mmo`s and taking their crappy ideas and applying them to gw2 thinking this adds fun and depth to the game.
I know how you feel. when I play I rarely see other players in most of the zones I roam around. When I do see people they are either soloing, farming champs, or doing the invasion scenarios. You can stand in lions arch all day asking for a group or people to run a dungeon without getting results. Hopefully the lfg tool will ease a lot of these problems.
Doesn`t a gemstore item that gives map completion kind of defeat the purpose of exploration. I myself don`t really pvp and I am totally ok with not being able to complete the map achievement so I wouldn`t spend a dime on some cheap easy way out item. Pretty soon you guys will be asking for games that will play themselves for you while you sleep.
I have been trying and trying to find groups to do the dungeons so I can get the tokens for the skins I want. The only groups I am able to find and get into are groups of people doing story mode and when that is done they disband and go on their way. Some people will say if I help them in the story they will do the explorable but then some members leave and we cannot fill the open spots. If the story modes awarded some tokens, at least it wouldn`t be a complete waste of time since finding dungeon groups seems harder and harder as time goes by.
What is so special about the loot bags to begin with? I think after all the champ kills I have done in the past week or so I haven`t received all that much from them.

Your ideas would be great if you were trying to make the dwindling player base even smaller. Durability loss on armor that only a cash shop item can repair? Sounds awesome, can`t wait to sell my account! A wardrobe that costs so much money it puts itself out of the reasonable pricerange of what most people are willing to spend. That sounds like a solid idea! Renting bank space? That sounds good, spend good money on something that is going to expire and will need constant renewals. Honestly man, this is the kind of garbage that makes the lesser quality asian mmo`s not worth bothering with no matter how fun they may be to play. Turning this game into a nickel and dime machine isn`t going to make it better for anet, it will only drive people away.
The trinity is a term that goes back to at least 1999 and possibly earlier. It meant that certain classes were required to do certain content and there was no way around it. In this game everyone is on equal ground and player skill becomes more of a factor then character class and abilities so certain classes aren`t required because everyone can fill any role if played skillfully. Just because some people adopted a certain setup that consists of three roles does not make it THE trinity because it isn`t specifically needed and can be done with other classes in different shapes and forms to reach the same outcome.
~How would you implement the ability to switch on demand between 3 weapons? The tilde as a “weapon swap key” works well to switch between just two.
You could have the three or four weapon set buttons on the screen just like they had them in the original guild wars game. You really can`t spec to get max results from all the different class weapons at once, so it really shouldn`t be a big deal to be able to equip 3-4 desired weapon setups and be able to toggle which weapons you want to use at whatever time. This game is supposed to be fun where we can do whatever we want, limitations don`t make it interesting or balanced, they make it annoying.
There really isn`t anything to change or balance just because you can equip and toggle between one more different equipped weapon. I `m not sure why everytime something good is mentioned that something bad has to go alongside it just to make it right in the minds of some people.

I`d like a third weapon slot. I really want the four slots like we had in guild wars so I can just bind what I want and leave it that way instead of opening my bags and changing my setup all the time. I think that would be a lot more fun then the two slot system.
I wish they did it like they had in the original game. Neverwinter has a decent system with a good balance of being able to solo the non dungeon content but needing a old school group for dungeon runs. Latency also has a huge effect in this style of gameplay that can make it undesirable at times that you don`t normally see with the old school system.
What did they expect of this? Was this designed to be fun?
Well if you watched any of the interviews and videos of the game before it was released the devs stressed intently that fun was main focal point of the game. But I also know some people who cut themselves and are into all kinds of self abuse. Perhaps some of our devs fall into that category.
