Idea for account bound harvesting tools

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Banewrath.5107

Banewrath.5107

Many of us have purchased multiple harvesting tools for different characters instead of swapping them through the bank which is a bit of a hassle to me.

Two problems with your suggestion.

  1. All of us who have multiple versions of the same tool on different characters would get hosed for the gems we spent on each one after the first.
  2. ANet would loose a ton of future sales

If you have 3-6 characters and don’t have time to waste on swapping, just dust off the coin purse and buy more for each of your characters.

I`m terribly sorry you spent that kind of money multiple sets when you only should have needed one. I think having to pay for bag slots for each character is enough let alone over $30 worth of tools for each character on top of that.

Idea for account bound harvesting tools

I have bought the gemstore harvesting tools for my character. I notice they are now account bound, which is great. I do feel however that having to bank them everytime I switch characters is becoming bothersome and thought of an idea to improve it.

The harvesting tools could have a slot in the wardrobe. Since they are account bound any character can open up his sheet and drag and drop a set tools to his inventory. It would work a bit like applying weapon skins but it wouldn`t require any tokens of currencies since they have already been paid for once. Sometimes I will switch between 3-6 characters and I don`t always have time, or remember to go make room in my bank so I can swap the tools everytime I go to the character login screen.

I would really like it if they designed a new style in the style of the krytan weapons. Those at least look pretty close to actual weapons and have a nice detail to them. I`m not too fond of the new set. Bring more weapons skins from prophecies into the game.

Wanting games to be just like others is also a weak argument. You’ve also shown in your previous points that you can’t prove my argument wrong, only divert away from it..

Honestly man, the only thing you can come up with is that you don`t want a wow clone. There isn`t anything wrong with asking for an option that people like that have been in games for over a decade.

You want mounts in a game where they are not needed, for no reason at all other than to just move faster so you can escape monsters. What’s next? The idiotic flying mounts that WoW has that ruined world encounters and exploration completely? Will that satisfy you? If so, just go back to WoW…

Haha Now I see your true colors! I smell a disgruntled wow player, DWP`s as I call them. I kinda figured as much. You ever play Aion or EQ2 where you could fly? Was actually more fun flying around then playing the game. That`s an idea though, a flying mount would be kind of cool. You could get a Glint egg that was hidden by destinys edge after she was killed and hatch it into a little mini dragon or wyvern you could ride.
Could make living content updates with that idea!

This game was optimized for foot travel. Running where you want to go works just fine. There’s already ways to make yourself faster if you want to, but you want this game to be a WoW clone, just like RIFT and SWTOR are. You won’t stop asking for things from WoW until this game is completely like it..

There is no difference in optimization whether you are on foot or on a mount. I think you, like many others think the game needs a massive change to the way things go if mounts were added. Like I said before a mount is no different then a speed signet that everyone would have access to. Again though, your inner DWP shines through.

I’m tired of people begging for a WoW clone. That’s probably why they added ascended gear, to satisfy people who like to grind gear in MMOs, and it’s probably why they will continue to as well as probably raise our level cap to make all gear useless. Not every MMO has to be like WoW..

Man you really have something against warcraft to mention it so many times.

I came here for a game inspired by GW1, not WoW set in a pseudo-guildwars universe.

Funny thing is, so did I. But what I found instead was a far cry from what the original game was. And again you mention warcraft. You should probably seek counseling if a game scorned you as bad as cheating wife could.

So here goes again. Your hide mount option – if the mount gives a speed bonus ( I’ve seen you argue with and without) I will feel compelled to use it. I have to use it because of the speed bonus without seeing it but will still have to mount/dismount while gathering. Do you see where I’m going with this? I doubt it because you say any argument that proves that mounts aren’t needed/wanted don’t matter.

I`m sure if they really wanted to they could make gathering possible on mounts much like it is done underwater with minimal animations. Wouldn’t really matter to me if I had to dismount to harvest or not but it would be nice if you could while still mounted. It isn`t ruining anything by being able to harvest on a mount so I don`t see why you wouldn`t be able to do it on one. But if by chance you would need to , then just hit the dismount button or click the icon. A mount system should have an easily accessable way to get on and off the mount. They could have a small horsehead icon near the minimap you could click to summon your mount and click it again to dismount.

What in blue blazes makes you think arenanet is going to change the whole game just so arenanet could make mounts for a minority.

I`m curious of what exactly would have to change if mounts were added.

I am sure if you actually read every post ever made that disagreed with you, you’de find out. However, don’t expect me to list them for you.

I`ve discussed back and fourth with a lot of people on this issue. Forgive me if I don`t remember who said what all the time, I don`t really keep track of names. What I do remember though is that for every complaint people made, I offered solutions to what could be a problem for some people. But there was nothing in the solutions about the game having to change or anything needing to be rebalanced because of it. All a mount is really is just a summonable speed signet with an animal attached to it. I don`t see arenanet having to rebalance or change the game for the mounts anymore then they would have to for the signets already in game. There are really only a few things that need to be done to them to even them out. And it`s really only these two things with one option. There really isn`t any reason to change anything else.

1 Make mounts only summonable out of combat

2 Make mounts get speed penalties for going in combat and let cripple and slow effects apply to the mount.

3 Make a hidemount option for the people that complain they don`t want to see them.

First off, I didn’t say WoW was the first MMO ever made. I said that people beg for things from WoW because it’s the first game they played. Chances are you’ll still not understand this, but that’s okay. You don’t have to minsunderstand my posts, and you don’t have to quote them if you misunderstand them..

I didn`t say you did. I said I thought it was hilarious that some people do. I think you might be the one misunderstanding. Touchy aren`t we?

Secondly, my post already addressed your “I can`t really name one of them that mounts had any negative effect.”.

If you say so.

You want mounts because either:
A. So you can go faster than normal running speed, this can be achieved by other means besides mounts. So it’s not a valid argument..

If I ride a motorcycle, does that mean I can`t drive a car as well?

B. They allow you to ride past monsters. This ruins exploration as demonstrated in WoW and makes you immune to encounters. Not a valid argument…

I can run past monsters now as it is. Just because you do it unhindered in warcraft doesn`t mean it would be the same way here if they were put in. Mounts would probably have combat speed penalties and cripple effects applied to them too.

C. You want this game to be like WoW or [insert other MMO here] but this game isn’t that MMO so you beg for things from that game where it has no place. “Because it’s in other games” isn’t a valid argument….

I don`t see anyone begging for mounts. I see people suggesting them because they like them. And how exactly wouldn`t they have a place? This is a fictional reality where anything is possible and could be implemented. Just because there are waypoints all over the map doesn`t mean you couldn`t please your customers and add in optional travel methods.

D. You like the aesthetic appeal of them. But let’s face it, you want it because of the other reasons as you have so pointed out…..

Yes, I would like a mount so I can run faster when I roam around the maps. What do you care?

In the end though, your argument is pretty weak. Not wanting the game to be like another is weak jab. That is like the first thing everyone who don`t like suggestions says. Look at all the games out that have borrowed or stolen something from another game at one time or another. Including this one. They couldn`t possibly ruin exploration if mounts had the same penalties running on foot has. So those are invalid, come up with something better.

Mounts are one thing out of many that World of Warcraft did wrong. It ruins exploration.

Now all of the kids cry out that everything in WoW must be in every other MMO just because WoW was the first MMO they played.

I think it`s hilarious that most people think world of warcraft was the like the first mmo ever made. Mounts have been in games from as back as 2000 and possibly even earlier, at least 3d mmo`s. There is a reason that mounts are in almost every mmo and that is because they are fun and makes non waypoint type travel more enjoyable.

Looking back over all the games I have played in the past 13 years, I can`t really name one of them that mounts had any negative effect in that made me stop and think they shouldn`t be there. If anything, the mounts made those games more fun to play once you got one. I really don`t see this game being any different if they were added.

I still don`t really understand your point. Yeah, certain classes have speed signets or whatever. So what? Does that mean the game can never change or go in different directions? Look at how ascended are replacing exotics when it was sworn up and down that exotics would be the end all gear to worry about. I think you are imagining that a mount is going to turn you into superman or something when it wouldn`t even be an issue for most players. You either use a mount or you don`t. Nothing in the game needs to change, the waypoints are still there, the speed signets and buffs are still there.

If you really stopped to think of the limited use a mount would provide, it wouldn`t be as big an issue as most make it out to be.

How exactly is this game designed with the idea of never having mounts? That makes no sense at all. You already have access to speed boosts. How is a mounted speed boost going to change anything that isn`t already dealt with the normal speed boosts? Mobs aren`t going to hit you for more damage because you have a mount, they aren`t going to chain cripple you more then they already do because you have a mount. It`s no different then a speed signet with a graphic attached to it. Tell me exactly how the game was designed against it again?

[Merged]1year post launch. How Anet feel on Trinity?

Banewrath.5107

Its nice there are somebody here was a previous ROM player.

But that’s the reason i hated trinity whole heartedly. When there are some world boss required 1 tank, 2 healers and every dps stand still watching, you knew something is wrong. A tank (knight/priest), 2 healers, both are (priest/knight), 1 healer focus heal on tank while the other healer heal the other healer standing further away.

All dps must not enter the boss attack range otherwise got 1 shotted by AoE. Only any class with XXX/knight or knight/XXX is able to withstand 1 single attack from the boss, dude, ROM is totally broken, and No, i don’t want to see GW2 go through that path again.

Sorry dude, even it was years ago, i was still full of rage to ROM.

Yeah I won`t argue with you there. Runes wasn`t the greatest game but I liked the cross class system they had. There was never a shortage of healers because almost everyone choose priest as their secondary. It just made finding people to group with easier when they had the option to switch primarys to fill a role if they had to. So finding players was never much of an issue even though it was trinity based game. That’s was probably one of the only things I liked about that game.

I loved the trinity in other games myself. But I don`t think you can really blame its system more then you can blame the devs from past games limiting the way it was handled. Nobody wanted to play a healer class because only a certain kind of person enjoys that style of play and they were few and far between. They could have made the healer class more fun to play so it would appeal to more people but most games never did. So I don`t think the trinity was bad idea but the devs in past games never made you want to play a healer or a tank. And the investment required to be a good one limited what you could do outside your main role a lot.

Runes of magic had a really nice cross class system. I was a knight cleric and I could switch my primary to either to get the benefits of the class. I could go knight/cleric and tank in dungeons or I could go cleric/knight and main heal in dungeons. Each primary had its own gear set that was saved so you didn’t have to carry extra gear or juggle it around. Was probably one the best class systems in any game I ever played. They could have done something simaler here or had certain trait lines more dedicated to certain roles then they do now.

I do know from experience that the every man for himself type games do give the instant satisfaction faster then the trinity based games. But in the longrun the trinity type games rewards feel more gratifying.

Yeah, I remember the 5 person limit. But I am seeing this while doing dungeon runs. I have had my health brought down very low and stood still waiting for it to start ticking off. But it doesn`t come back on. I have to use a healing signet and then it starts ticking again. Before I logged last night I checked the healing on npc`s fighting svanir in frostgorge and it was ticking for 113 per second so that`s 339 over seconds when it should be 499 over 3 seconds. But then soon as I logged in today at the same spot as last night, it is ticking for 133 per second and that`s 399. I am still missing 100 points of healing being added in over the ticks.

I don`t have absolute resolution traited but I see that it says it will increase the healing strength but still shows the 499 healing number, the same as battle presence shows. I only played with the build for a day but never had my health lock before like it did the few times yesterday. Maybe it just got a burp in the system and glitched on me. I will experiment more with it today and see if there is any difference or if my health locks up again.

I`m not sure if that`s correct either, I`ll have to double check it ingame again. I was expecting a 400ish heal every 3 seconds but it looks like its healing for 100ish every 3 seconds. I`m not seeing the heal going off every second unless it is just a display bug.

Ok I do see it going every second. But healing isn`t correct. It should be healing for 492 over three seconds. But it is only healing for 113 per second.

I`ve never used bp before but today I decided to switch out some traits to give it a try. First thing I noticed is that in the tooltip it says it should healing for 400+ a tick at lvl 80. But running a hotw dungeon was only healing the group about 120ish a tick. The second thing I noticed was that people right next to me were sometimes not getting the heal. Also noticed that I was not getting the heal either and few times my regen just stopped even with the virtue ready to be spent. Anyone else encounter any this?

Having a commander on/of toggle in the map legend would fix this.

It will defeat the purpose of the commander tag – to be seen across the map…

Not really. if you want to see the tag you can toggle them on. There really isn`t a need to see the commander tags unless there is an event where everyone needs to know where to rally to and who to follow. We already can turn off most of the icons on the map so a commander toggle won`t make big difference. Just another option available for people to use.

I`d like to see a lvl restriction option. Just a checkbox for 80 only when applied and any lvl can join when unchecked. Sometimes I will advertise for 80 only and a number of lower lvls will join. I will normally leave the group and go back to looking for 80`s to party with and same lower lvls will join the group or merge parties making me leave and have to advertise again. Having a lvl restriction box will end this problem before it even starts.

Though I agree with you on some level, also note that your level is still scaled down to the type of dungeon, so if a player is allowed to enter that dungeon, they should not be prevented from doing so. Level has never mattered much in this game in PvE. Perhaps some kind of compromise on this idea: create a custom minimum level a group will accept?

Having the checkbox in place would kill the problem before it even became an issue. Most people under 80 will still join a dungeon even if the lfg add says 80 only. Why can`t the people under 80 just create their own lfg ad or join a run that isn`t asking for lvl 80 players? Yes, we do scale down in lvl but a lvl 80 will have access and function to a full trait set which will help make things easier overall. Most 80`s are also in exotics already further increasing the chances. I normally run 6-10 dungeons a day and I hardly ever put a lvl restriction in my ads. But the times that I do, I would expect people to respect the ad since I do the same for other peoples ads. But they don`t and they still join and sometimes join over and over even after being kicked or me leaving the group to repost the ad again. The lvl 80 checkbox solves this problem.

1: level requirements are elitist crap. While I understand your concerns bout not wanting low level’s I do think ti should never ever be promoted by a tool saying that such behaviour is ok. So I udnerstand you, and in some dungeons I feel the same, but no. I rather see that Anet fixes the level requirement for dungeons. Make them all level 80, with upscaling like WvW should be a good start..

I normally do my dungeons everyday and accept all lvl ranges. But there are some times that I just want to do the run quickly and smoothly with 80`s if I`m pressed for time or just don`t feel like explaining the mechanics of the fights. I never ask people to link gear and I don`t care what kind of builds they run. I have no problems explaining the fights or helping lower lvl players. The 2handed Axe is cool, but honestly the spin is it’s only good ability. I’ma stick with the Mad King Scepter. :P

The auto attack roots you in place and has a cooldown, the #2 charge is hard to hit anything with and the aoe fear forces you into a 2nd attack that leaps you forward, most of the time hitting nothing.

So, meow.

Yeah I just tried this out a bit ago and it does kind of suck. The #1 is slow leaving you stuck in animation lock. #2 even if I have someone targeted with it sends me running past them every time. #3 is the only decent attack it has. #4 telegraphs my attack so bad that anyone can just dodge but also sends me jump attacking in the opposite direction . It does work good when you run up behind two people that are fighting each other and not you though so you get a free hit. But I just fought a guy with the mad kings set and it was nothing but fear spam so I turned on time out. and everytime I turned it back on, was more fear spam. So I just went back to my armor set. For as neat as the set looked I should have just saved that 700 gems for something else. The axe does look really good though. would like to see more weapons of that style and quality ingame.

This obviously could apply to armor design as well.

The eq games have a player studio so 3d artists can submit work and have them turned into item skins for sale in cash shop. Sony does pay the artists a portion from each sale of the skins too. I don`t think arenanet would be willing to pay people for models per sale since you can convert gems to gold. But being able to submit a model that they would use or be able to turn into a custom skin for yourself would be pretty cool.

Won’t ever happen. This game is almost entirely built around cosmetics and looks. If they make it so that no one can see your looks then the entire purpose of the game is gone and so is the carrot and by extension their money.

I don`t think the purpose of the game is stand around looking cool for others but for yourself. The only character on the screen I care about the looks for are my own. A toggle couldn`t hurt if people are running low end cards. But they would need to add particle slider or something else too to fix all the spell effect spam in large fights, you can`t even see the mobs half the time.

It makes me sad that more than half the people in this topic didn’t even read the opening post.
They just saw the word “Mount” written on it and assume the rest…

I also agree that Mounts in GW2 are pointless, and the last thing I want is the center of Lion’s Arch to get filled with people posing their new “Pink Elephants” they paid 300g to get.

I only suggested Mounts to become come as some sort of alternative version of “Environmental tools” that effect the way you control your character, and instead of making you look like you are holding something, they make you look like you are mounting something.

How hard is it to understand it?!

In all fairness, the moderators merged the mount threads. So your topic got injected into a longer running conversation, your thread title overwrote the original. I do think though that if you browse through the posts that were from the other thread, you would find suitable compromises that would probably please around 90% of the players.

how to avoid the “pay to win” situation: make standard 0815 versions of mounts available at vendors for 50s each. Only cosmetic new mounts will be available as rewards and from the gem store.

small further idea: everyone has a stable in his home instance where you can look at all of your mounts (like the island in GW1 where you had your mini-collection running around).

If you want to see mounts considered by Anet, maybe it would be a good idea to mention it in the current list of things that should be discussed with Anet: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Collaborative-Development-Request-for-Topics/page/11#post3058120

We have already hammered out the ideas that mounts could also be obtained with ingame currency. Gold, tokens, karma. So it isn`t really a factor of pay to win. I think some people think of it is as pay to win because they could get it first by using cash but in the end it really doesn`t make a difference.

The home instance idea is a neat one. I think the home the island zoo they have in guild wars would be a better idea though and I`ll explain. The monestary zone from guild wars was a very cool place and had animals you could pick from. They could replicate the island instead of doing it in a home instance to bring more of the much needed guild wars feel into gw2. So they could have mounts and pets on the island in one place and that would free up having to assign a separate instance to each player. If they didn`t do the island though, your idea with the home instance would be my next choice.

I also know arenanet is watching this thread because they have already infracted a few of my posts. So I know it`s working and serving it`s purpose.

Imagi.4561 & Banewrath.5107…… What if the mounts were just like a skill that you have to place on your skill bar, just like the engineer has to place the flame thrower skill on his bar. I mean this could be the operating mechanism and the sacrificial method. They could be summoned upon the use of the skill, and that summon would change your 1-5 skills to reflect the type of mount that you just summoned. I mean really unusual skill play here. Like for instance how about a mounted skill that allows you to throw a rope to a downed player and drag them out of red circles so that you could rez them. I also think while mounted, mounts should have a the ability to use the dodge feature. This may or may not have some animation, maybe when mounted you only get a small boost to the already trotting speed of 25% say up to 33% for 3 seconds.

Based on this mounts could be brought into the game in a way that has never been done in any other mmo to my recollection. I may differ from most people, but I would love to see a marriage of old and new ideas that makes the mounts that anet could give us very unique. I want all the versatility of a speed mount along with bringing new skill sets to the table that have never been done before, which only a mounted combat system could provide..

Those are some decent ideas. But I don`t think arenanet would go that kind of distance for making skills for mounts unless they were for some kind guild rush type activity. Mounted combat would work awesome if this had the same fighting system guild wars has. But I don`t think all the dodging and the changing of weapon skills into mount skills to use are a can of worms they want to open. It would be neat to see something like that though.

Which I want you two champions to know that little old me had come up with this solution along time ago, if you want to snoop around in my old posts.

“If people can afford the tools” being the key phrase. Yes, it’s something that people can work towards if it is implemented that way, but then some people are setting a long-term goal for themselves that requires them to either wait a significant amount of time—getting left behind by other players in the interim—or farm gold, which is a different problem altogether..

Making gold in this game is very easy. Once they discover how to earn a steady income then being poor becomes less of an issue. I also notice you keep referring to things as not being able to keep up with others or not be able to afford what others can. This is an mmo,. And in mmo`s different people earn and get at different paces. You can`t really expect everything ingame to be had overnight for everyone. I know you are all for equality and all but a persons desire for something is what drives them for it. If it took me a week to get enough to buy a mount by doing my normal routine and it took you two months, then you either didn`t want it bad enough, or your routine wasn`t that great at making coin. Or maybe you just took your time because it wasn`t a priority for you. There will always be people who get things faster then others. Always has and always will be.

You’re right that having speed-boost mounts only available in the cash shop doesn’t instantaneously make GW2 a pay-to-win game, but it’s a significant slide in that direction..

I don`t believe it would be. All you have is a mount doing what a mount does.

I’ve actually answered this earlier on this page of the thread. If you ignored it, that’s fine, but I’m not going to repeat myself all day.

Having mounts that provide a speed boost would destroy the innate mobility (or lack thereof) that classes are supposed to have. Mesmers, for instance, are designed without much OOC mobility, but Thieves have quite a lot. Mounts would render that completely moot. And creating a “hide mounts” option for mounts that not only change player height and movement position, but also provide a speed boost? I can’t even fathom the programming that would require, but I’m willing to bet it’s nigh impossible.

I found this you posted. But what real difference is it in a pve setting? Who cares if your thief can run faster then my guardian? And who would care if my guardian had a mount and your thief didn`t? Nobody.

. Being unable to keep up with a mounted zerg because I can’t afford to buy a mount? To me, that’s unacceptable. My real-life economic status shouldn’t affect my ability to succeed in a game.

I am usually always dead last in a zerg because I run so slow. But it`s a zerg, I don`t have to be the first one there and nobody is complaining I got there last because I ran slow. but then again, you are referring to using your credit card to buy a mount and not the other options provided. And since we reduced the speed of the mount to 25% now and most everyone buffs to 33% , the mount is now going to be slower then the zerg. But yet still fast and useful enough for someone who doesn`t have a signet. This looks more like win/win situation here to me.

If you sit there and really look at the pros and cons of a mount versus a buff or signet it looks a little more clear.

Mount pros
25% speed increase while equipped.
looks cool

Mount cons
Cannot fight while mounted
Casting time
Mounts suffer the same speed penalty when entering combat
You are vulnerable to attack while mounted and cannot fight back until you dismount.
Mounts can`t dodge
Mounts can only be summoned out of combat

Signet pros
25% speed increase while slotted

Signet cons
Needs to be slotted taking up a space

Speed buff pros
33% speed increase
Most buffs are instant cast whether in or out of combat.
Some buffs can be spammable

Speed buff cons
Some have a long recharge time

Speed Rune pros
25% speed increase
always active out of combat
frees up a utility slot

Speed rune cons
Must sacrifice stats for the speed increase

The mount doesn`t look so overpowering now does it?

Why not? I mean, if you are going to comment against a suggestion, at least provide insight as to why.

It amuses me that you call me “thick,” but then make statements that I’ve already provided a counterpoint for, multiple times. At this point, the most likely institution for mounts is as a cash-shop only item. That’s pay-to-win, because it provides a distinct advantage to players who can afford to buy one.

What is the difference between buying a mount with gold or using gold to get gems for the same item? Seems pretty even to me. If you truly want to know the definition of a pay to win game go check out runes of magic. You play the game with the gear you find but it can be difficult in some areas. However, they do sell repair hammers and boosters that increase the efficiency and stats of armor and weapons. And once you start using those it makes the same content you tried without the buffs a breeze.

Another great example was Archlord when it was released. You could play the game normal but once you started getting chantra items that increased your defense, damage, and hit points. It made the game a lot easier and even low lvls players were killing higher lvl ones. That is what pay to win is. A trivial 25% speedbuff on a mount just so people can travel a little faster more reliably isn`t really pay to win, At least not in my opinion after I have experienced dozens of game before that followed the examples I just gave. A tiny speedbuff is nothing compared to the bigger picture.

It’s possible that, if they ever do put them in, it will be different, and something easily accessible, like cultural armor and weapons. Maybe they could make it purchaseable with karma, since karma as a whole is relatively useless. That’s fine. And even though I think mounts are largely unnecessary, I’d probably get one. I love animals and enjoy having pets in games.

I already proposed mounts for gold, cultural mounts, and dungeon mounts. Did you read one of my previous posts or just come up with this now?

And you’re right, gem store items can technically be acquired with in-game gold, but the practicality of that is highly dependent on the cost of the item. Converting gold to gems doesn’t stretch very far. We don’t know if “poor people” would realistically be able to get it, because it hasn’t been instituted.

An average decent price for 100 gems is 5 gold. sometimes you can get more and sometimes less. the poor can easily afford it if they are willing to invest the time to get the gold for the gems. It also doesn`t have to buy an overnight buy. It could be something that people that have problems earning can work for. But I would imagine a standard ingame mount at a stable would cost around 5-10 gold. And a fancy gemshop mount would cost about 400-800 gems. which isn`t unreasonable for something that provides a function and will be used for the life of your character. Much like the harvest tools do. But I`m willing to bet if people can afford the tools, they will be able to get a fancy mount if they want one.

You’ll have to be more specific. My opinion, as I’ve previously stated, would vary greatly depending on what kind of mount we’re discussing and how it’s implemented.

My question is simple. I would have a speedbuff mount. I don`t wvw or pvp. I run around zones from event to event and harvest and screw around. How exactly would that imbalance the game? Even if you didn`t want a mount but I did and had one, and you saw me running around doing what I do. What would it actually matter?

Providing they don’t have an impact on gameplay (especially competative elements) then I would love to see them in gw2. It’s another way to express your character and whole new class of item to collect, and potentially something that could seriously rake in some gems.

I’ve not read a convincing argument against mounts in guild wars yet, and I’ve read a lot.

It would probably be best to keep them out of wvw. We already have some people who are crying pay to win. The people who pvp usually cry pay to win when things don`t go their way.

But for casual travel in the open pve element, there shouldn`t be a problem.

I’ve given you the issue several times now, and that is the imbalance presented by “pay to win” items. And I’m not “nitpicking,” I’m presenting you with a reasoned argument. Runes are something that players have to take over a potentially better runeset, so they require a sacrifice. Signets are given to classes with the intention of allowing them to have better inherent mobility. Neither of those are equivalent to cash-shop mounts..

How is something pay to win when everyone has access to it and has a choice to use it or not? You keep bringing this up as an imbalance when everyone has the option to use or not. You also keep thinking that mounts are a cash shop only item. and even if they were they could still be acquired with ingame gold. So your pay to win argument is out the window. It`s not only people with jobs could afford the mount, arenanet made it so the poor people could get stuff too. So you would be able to afford one. There is no pay to win in this game. Do you honestly think if a class who doesn`t have a speed signet is going to break the game with a mount?

Interesting that you should bring up twisting the words of others. Please quote me where I said that “speed is a class defining factor.” You mentioned that a few times as part of my argument—I bolded those parts for your convenience—but for some reason I can’t remember saying it…

I didn`t quote you, but you mentioned those are differences between the classes. And any difference between a number of things is what defines them. You obviously want the fast classes to stay faster then others or you wouldn`t even have brought up class distinctions. Cripes man, you are thick. And I thought I was bad sometimes.

Also, I’ve said multiple times that I’m fine with cosmetic mounts, but I don’t want cash-shop mounts for a number of concerns I’ve already presented. …

Of course you are fine with cosmetic mounts! Because you don`t want anyone to be able to run faster. But in some of my posts I`ve mentioned there could have vendors for them that took gold, like a stable in every home city. And even if they were cash shop mounts, just convert gold to gems. You are making this more difficult then it needs to be.

I am going to ask you a question and I can already imagine the response I`m going to get but I wanna hear it from the horse mouth. If I had a mount and you did not. If you saw me run by you on one in malchors leap, how is that effecting or imbalancing anything? I ask this because I have asked this question numerous times in the past and not a single person has ever answered it. But I have a feeling you are the one to come with something pretty entertaining.

I tried reading this multiple times, and I couldn’t make any sense out of it. Everyone can use runes, yes, but to do so means you have to sacrifice using a different and likely more advantageous runeset. Using a mount requires no in-game sacrifice at all.[/quote]

I think you are missing the point of what a mount is supposed to be . A mount is meant for speed and if a player buys one for gold or gems then why is this an issue?

More acceptable, yes. But then a Mesmer with a mount can outpace a Mesmer without one, simply because they had the money to spend. This is still inequitable..

A mounts speed bonus would not add increased performance to already existing buffs. Highest % applies and overwrites the lesser. I mentioned this numerous times but I think you may have missed it. A mount is an alternative to those who have signets and something a little more special for people who don`t have signets. But again, they are an alternative that are not mandatory to use. Sounds like you just like to nitpick.

Many players spend money on gemstore items that have little to no practical value in the game, like hairstyle kits and skins. Some are even active collectors. Just because you, personally, wouldn’t use it doesn’t mean that no one would enjoy it—and, oddly enough, that’s almost the exact argument you’ve been making for speed-boost mounts.

No, I think you are trying to turn this around and twist my words. You can buy and enjoy anything you like and I`ll not say a thing about it because it doesn`t effect me in the least. But If I bring up the subject of a mount that does what a mount is supposed to do, people come out of the woodwork complaining about it. I gave suggestions on how some complaints could be resolved and I even went as far and made suggestions on how they could implement them ingame so the people who are interested in them could get them multiple ways. You just don`t want mounts at all and only really here for the sake of argument I think. and a weak one it is. Because lets face it, if the best you can come up with is arenanet isn’t capable enough to make a hidemount option and some classes should retain speed over others always because that is a class defining factor, then I think you should probably rethink your plan of attack.

Of all the complaints people have brought up, yours are probably the weakest. I can totally understand people not wanting to see something they don`t want to be bothered with and I can understand people who can`t afford a decent gaming rig that have worries about fps loss and performance issues. But to nitpick on mountspeed because you think that class speed is the defining factor is kind of lame. it just sounds to me like you want the slow classes to remain slow and the fast classes to remain fast. Which a mount isn`t really going to make any huge different because they couldn`t be used in combat and would have a casting time. Just a to b speed boost, real gamebreaking.

I know what I said. And ArenaNet may have built this game from the ground up, but it’s far from flawless at the moment. Do I think that kind of hide feature is possible? Yes. Do I think it is likely, or even remotely easy? No..

That`s because you may have no understanding of that kind of thing. If you did, you would know almost anything is possible in games nowadays. It all depends whether the developer wants to do it or not. Skyrim is a prime example. Bethesda released creation kits for the players to figure out how to add content and do new things. People are putting out content that you wouldn`t think was possible. And that`s just fans making content who are learning to use the tools. imagine what someone with a few years experience with game development tools could do if they wanted to.
.

You’re not giving solutions to people’s complaints, you’re giving an entirely new scenario which is incredibly unlikely to happen. For example, your reply to the concern that mounts will be a cash shop feature was “well, they can be dungeon rewards bought with tokens.” That is incredibly unlikely, and doesn’t really address the concern at all. And a “hide mount” option might help with lag, but again, how likely is that to happen, and how quickly? It took 7 months until culling was fixed, and that’s the closest precedent. For that matter, how would mounts affect their culling-fix graphics feature? If you’ve got extensive experience with modding/scripting, please give me your insight..

How are the scenarios not addressing complaints? would a hidemount option not fix the complaint of people not wanting to look at them and those who are worried extra lag from them? This has been done before in other games. The ideas I gave to remedy the problems people have is so that arenanet can see that there are reasonable alternatives to making them happen that aren`t as bad as one would think. I can`t tell arenanet what to do but I can suggest things that seemed to work pretty good in 13 years of playing mmo`s.

As for the hidemount option I`ll give a small example of something that could be done. This isn`t exactly what they might do but an option that could be done. How they enable it is out of my hands. Every single item in the game has identifier properties attached to it so the game can recognize what it is. Mounts could be given an identifier to classify them as a mount class item. In the options they can either script or code a process that will turn that mount identifier flag on and off. In the on position you see the mounts and they are enabled, in the off position they are hidden and base animations are forced in place of mounted ones on your screen. It wouldn`t be as hard as you think it would be especially for people who do this kind of thing for a living. You see how you can turn off your helm, gloves, and paldrons? Same thing

I also brought up the issue of the inherent OOC movement balance each class possesses—which is set intentionally as part of mobility—and that was completely ignored..

When items already exist in game that don`t have to be cast, or a skill slot needed for it to be active, Then that pretty much destroys that argument and wouldn`t be any different then having a mount to beginwith. the only downside for mounts is that you wouldn’t be able to fight on one as you could with the runes. They might enable mounted combat but to keep things simple for now I suggested that you can`t. I didn`t ignore your comment, I just felt that since I mentioned you can use runes, I didn`t need to address that particular one.

Being able to buy runes on the TP is not at all the same as buying mounts in a cash shop. And those runes provide a 25% speed bonus, which is the same as a speed signet. You’re talking about mounts that provide a permanent 33% bonus, which is equivalent to perma-swiftness and could outrun anyone using those runes or signets. That’s an entirely different principle..

Ok then , reduce a mounts speed to 25% like the signets have. I only used 33% because that is the speed my personal buffs give. Do you find that acceptable?

On the other hand, mounts could be cosmetic-only, and most of these concerns would be a moot point.

I won`t spend a dime in the gemstore for an item that doesn`t have a desireable function. I`m pretty sure a lot of others won`t either. That’s like going and buying a tuxedo you`ll only wear in your bathroom. Little cosmetic items might be great for the younger kids, but to get my wallet open there has to be some value attached to it.

I believe that with the current state of the game the option to be able to sit in a chair may be a overpowering and imbalanced. God knows it would certainly give certain players advantages over others. Like when I used to play wow and I would go to ironforge to find a place to sit , all the seats were already taken. People just sat there, hogging up all the seating. Totally threw the mechanics of the game out of sync and made it unplayable. I found myself logging in less and less because of the lack of sitting. I don`t want this to be the same way. I also couldn`t possibly fathom the programming required to make that happen, would probably be nigh impossible. Would probably need an entirely new game engine as well.

“Nigh impossible” means “nearly impossible,” not “completely impossible.” And the “lol” was in reference to you saying that kind of programming wouldn’t be hard, as most people with reading comprehension skills would have been able to deduce. Because it was done in a different game with a different engine doesn’t mean it would be a simple matter for ArenaNet..

I know exactly what nigh impossible means. You are the one who said it not me. Lets look at it again

I can’t even fathom the programming that would require, but I’m willing to bet it’s nigh impossible..

You can`t fathom it because you have no clue what you are talking about. I`ve been modding and scripting games for years and this needs is a player toggled animation replacer or toggle. Yeah nigh impossible stuff for a company that could build a game of this scale from the ground up.

I’ve given you several valid reasons as to why mounts should be cosmetic-only, if they are even instituted. Dismiss or ignore them if you want, but then don’t claim that the only reasonable arguments are the ones being presented by people who agree with you.

I think you are the one with the comprehension problem here. All the people with arguments don’t agree with me at all, hence me making solutions to their complaints. And those runes completely destroy any argument you have about one class having something over another. And that`s a permanent 25% speed increase that never needs to be cast and it always in effect that can be had for around 60 gold. The only other complaint you had was lag that the unfathomable hidemount option would remedy. I don’t see anything else by you that either hasn`t been addressed or still looking for a solutions for.

Oh and by the way everyone, while everyone is on the topic of balance and how they don`t want edges over others.

Come up a few times, but there seems to be little interest in adding such an option either from other players or ANet – Frustrating as there are already NPCs including Queen Jennah, Norn, Sylvari and many Asura who seem to do fine without footwear.

If I want my human female elementalist to resemble the NPC trainer, it’s annoying that I have to take a stat hit in order to do so.

Unless there is way to turn it off, I wouldn`t want to be having to look at barefoot characters in lions arch all day. Most people run faster barefoot so this would probably give some people an edge over another. Besides we already have waypoints, what do you need to be barefoot for?

I really couldn`t resist. Kind of stinks when the shoe is on the other foot huh? Oh wait, there is no shoes! Haha I got you again! I got you again!

Not to say that Anet should not try to make some prfit out of them too, but they could do it in a harmless and non grindful kind of way simply with mount “skins” sold over the shop or mount equipment to personalize your mounts a bit more..

That`s actually a good idea. I didn`t think of that. Though if I buy skin addons for a mount I wouldn`t want to have to use transmute stones all the time when I want to change my look. If I buy a skin once, I shouldn`t have to keep buying it again if I wanna try something different.

Mounts will never replace waypoints in terms of efficiency, but thats also not the point of their concept to do that at all. Mounts should and will be always just an ALTERNATIVE for prestige, for roleplay, for the fun of a little bit faster exploration with STYLE, than having to run to everywhere permanenetly
It could be an awesome new money sink to with stuff to customize your mounts and make them more personal….

The deposit all issue really isn’t the best reasoning for supporting this because of the invisible bags, but I absolutely do agree that 99.99% of the time all of my minis just sit in the collection unused because 1.) they take up a bag slot in my bags which are always full because my OCD prevents me from easily disposing of anything and 2.) did I mention my bags are full because of my OCD? A mini-pet slot on the hero tab meant for and used only for minis would be nice. I would add that maybe that mini-pet slot always has access to the mini-pet collection box from anywhere? Just click the slot to bring up your collection so you can select which mini to show. I mean if rangers can have a pet selection screen to swap real pets, why can we have the same for minis?
