But looking at the big picture MMOs have now reached saturation. Your two choices to grow your player base are 1) draw players who have just churned out of the MMO they were playing and 2) expand the potential pool of players by making a casual MMO that isn’t so time demanding.

Churn happens in MMOs. Players will become bored or chase after that new shiny thing until they become bored there and return. Casual doesn’t have to mean easy, it just has to mean you aren’t punished for not playing for X hours everyday. LS1 sort of failed this test because if you missed it, oh well. LS2 sort of fixed that aspect.

I think this was part of the April feature patch.

I too notice that if you are the character who damaged them first, it takes a lot to pull them off of you as their primary.

From what you said in your OP I’m guessing you have Foefire’s Essence as it’s one of the few weapons that have a low sale price under 700g but a high buy above 500g. Supply has gone down a few times over the last day, more over the last week.

But in the end it’s trading off additional money for time. If you need the gold right now, sell it to the likely flipper. If you are willing to wait up to a week for another 100g, knock a couple of percent off the current low sale price.

I would use gw2tp.com simply because it samples faster. Faster sampling can show you if one that sold between gw2spidy’s updates.

A small increase doesn’t bother me when buying. A small increase with a large order does bother me when I’m buying only a few of an item. And the reason for that is velocity. There is a relative volume of items sold to high bidders on the TP. Only a few items in front of me is no concern if I know, through experience, that within an hour or two my buy order will be filled. The trick is putting in the order well before you need those items.

As for your “can’t be the only one”, there has been numerous threads discussing minimum changes in over and under cutting but while being coppered is a problem for an individual for the market at large it encourages competition and fairer prices to buyers and sellers.

Organized crime on Tyria must control all the unions because by now, some 6 months after Scarlet’s defeat, the major bridges should have all been repaired, wooden debris removed, less damaged structures repaired, some of the major pieces of wreckage from Scarlet’s drill removed or have crews around it tearing it apart, etc.

Exactly, nothing is wrong with your CPU and video card. And sadly this game needs only a fraction of it’s abilities and is limited not by graphics but individual core performance. And while the FX-9xxx is the fastest that AMD has, and is fairly competitive with Intel when all cores are occupied, in this game where there is only a few CPU intensive threads, core speed wins the day and that isn’t the strong suit with AMD’s FX line, which is more but slower cores. As it is the overall core performance of the FX-9590, the big brother of your 9370, is only 70% the performance of a core in the lowly Pentium G3258, at stock speeds, and your CPU is slower still.

But I know, from other threads with upset FX- owners, that you don’t want to hear that. That there is nothing you can do to improve your performance because this game wasn’t designed to scale across many cores, doesn’t take advantage of newer Dx APIs which also limits how multithreaded the rendering code can be and due to where the code is bound, throwing more GPU power at it doesn’t do much at all.

That means all you can do, is rail against the “serious optimization problems” because other than switching to an Intel platform with it’s faster cores, your setup is at a wall. The game is “optimized” for few cores. It’s not Intel’s fault that their cores run so much faster than AMD’s.

And as for my attitude, I’m not the one who posted 8 times in a 13 post thread complaining about the game’s engine. It’s limitations are well known after 2 years and since I know there is nothing you will be willing to do to improve your situation here, because otherwise it’s a very good gaming system, all you can do is blow off some steam.

New RAM yes. The RAM you have, DDR2, won’t work/fit. Video card is fine. The HD 6870 should be similar in performance to the R7 260X. You can always upgrade that at a later date.

These are examples of the kind of memory you should get. 2×4GB sticks of DDR3-1600 with CAS 9 timings (or lower).

Don’t know about you but unique to me means your character can only have one of that item. Maybe because City of Heroes had unique items as well. The problem stems from the fact that players don’t realize that the location where it displays Unique is the same area as other limitations are displayed like Soul and Account Bound.

It’s a case that it’s perfectly obvious to the designers, because of it’s location in the popup but it’s not to players since we don’t have a breakdown what all the locations are devoted to in the popup.

Sorry again, I kneejerked to the “throw everything away …” more so than what you were recommending, since you didn’t have it priced out at that point. I went with doggy’s Z97 comment as a motherboard baseline (cause it allows K series i5 and i7 for future CPU upgrades) and more than 6GB as a requirement to come up with $250 and he was already down to $170 from $240.

LGA 1150 is the socket type which means Intel’s Haswell series of CPUs which the G3258 is one off with the current top end being the i7-4790K.

DDR3-2400 says the motherboard could support DDR3 memory that fast. Actually that’s wrong, Asus’s page for that motherboard says it can accept DDR3-3200 which is insane.

Z97 is the top end motherboard chipset for LGA 1150.

The motherboard also can support two video cards and has a port on the motherboard to accept a stick based SSD, the M.2 support.

It can also use SATA Express SSDs which can transfer data beyond the SATA 3 600MB/s limit, which is only important with expensive high end SSDs right now. Right now conventional hard drives barely get close to SATA 1’s 150MB/s limit.

And if you don’t know what ATX is, that’s the format of the motherboard which normally has 7 slots. It is important to know if your case can handle an ATX motherboard because it won’t fit in most store bought PCs (assuming a retrofit) which use micro ATX (mATX or uATX).

we do not know his budget. he never stated it. But if he is considering upgrading his CPU from the x3 to anything that will fit that AM2+ socket, he is looking at 120~ as it is.

so why not just upgrade to a G3258 and H87 based motherboard for the same cost (or near due to memory as well) and get 2-3x’s the performance of what a 965BE can bring to the table.

Becomes sometimes people still need to pay the rent and eat occasionally. Sure we can partpicker something in the $250 range around a G3258 but for some people that extra $100 might as well be $1000 for some.

Select your OS (which doesn’t actually matter) and choose BIOS and the first one listed is the latest. Then read your motherboard manual about flashing a new BIOS (if you misplaced it a PDF of the manual is also on that page as well as the latest BIOS upgrade tool).

Since you will be buying a tray version of the CPU, meaning it doesn’t come with a cooler or anything, you will have to reuse the current heatsink so once you remove it you really need to clean the side that will be touching the CPU, reapply thermal compound, etc.

Edit: All of this said, I’m not sure pouring that much money into a 20% faster CPU is the best course of action. In comparison the core found on an Intel Pentium G3258 that sirsquishy is talking about below is twice as fast as your 720 and it’s two cores can outpace that tricore by 35%. And that’s at stock clocks and the G3258 is crazy overclockable (35%-40%) even with the default Intel heatsink (although tossing a $30-40 aftermarket heatsink is still advisable).

The point is if you could save up another $100-150 you could have a considerably faster setup (CPU, motherboard, memory) than the amount spent on a “new” X4 965 BE.

As for your question about DDR memory. Simply put every few years, to achieve faster memory transfers, DDR memory undergoes a design shift that includes electrical voltage changes as well as signal timings. Original DDR was officially limited to 400 million transfers a second. DDR2 was 1066 and DDR3 to 2133. DDR4 is very new and starts at 2133. The memory controller on your CPU dictates the type and maximum (official) speed. And to prevent people from plugging the wrong kind into a motherboard, each type of DDR memory sticks are keyed differently. Currently DDR3-1600 is a common “speed” even though it’s faster than what is commonly “official” for CPUs.

Now even though your X3 720 or a X4 965 has both DDR2 and DDR3 controllers, other components on a AM2+ motherboard, including how the memory slots are keyed, means you can only use DDR2 memory in your setup. An AM3 motherboard is wired for DDR3.

According to the link to your motherboard, it supports up to the 965, assuming the BIOS is new enough, but that’s an easy enough fix. The last BIOS update for that motherboard came out 5-6 months before the 980 which is why it’s not supported. On a per core basis, the 965 is 20% faster than your 720.

Actually that sounds about right. Scraps are around 20% chance and full tickets are only 1 or 2% at most.

The only Intel bias is Intel cores are inherently more powerful than AMDs since the Core 2 came out 8 years ago. AMD has been playing catch up since.

Here’s the problem. While you may get some additional performance out of a Phenom II X4 quad core, they are virtually gone from the market. And since you have a socket AM2+ motherboard, you can’t even go with an FX- series CPU. On top of that, having an AM2+ motherboard means you have DDR2 memory. Currently DDR3 is widely used with DDR4 just starting to come out for the uber high end Intel X99 motherboards for Haswell-E CPUs.

So not a lot of options CPU wise. A Phenom II X4 925 is simply a quad core version of your trio core CPU and that won’t buy you much of anything in terms of improved performance. Not sure if you can find a 945 or 965.

To be honest you are in desperate need of a new system. Any reasonably priced motherboard upgrade, either AMD or Intel, will require you to toss your current memory for DDR3.

If you are getting 200-300ms pings well before the NCSOFT servers then the problem isn’t with NCSOFT or their ISP but something along the way.

Yes I have received a response and it is being worked on. As of now I have changed my password and can at least log into my account, as you can see. It’ll be a couple of hours still before I can actually log into the game. I’m hoping that no damage was done and I won’t require a rollback, but that seems like wishful thinking considering I had a decent amount of gold and quite a few valuable items in my bank and inventory. I will know more later.

And to the refrainer saying that failing an event is not griefing, semantics aren’t worth debating.

If some players actively seek to fail the event whereas others seek to complete the event, there’s a problem.

I don’t disagree. I’m simply making it clear that there isn’t a predetermined better reward for failing. I know I’m being pedantic here but players who keep saying “there’s a better reward by failing” the event aren’t being honest. It’s just that failure lets you repeat the event quickly rather than moving along in the event chain. The reasoning is if you fail, unintentionally, you don’t have to wait long to try again.

The solution will be the same as Blix, a longer failure timer.

Having a train schedule is helpful in terms of not missing a major event and allowing you to construct your play sessions around it. Before you would have to use sites that dynamically show you what was happening now on your server. I just remember seeing timers on how long since it spawned and crowd sourced when a boss event ended with a countdown timer assuming the timer is correct for the next time it will spawn.

Downside of course is EVERYBODY showing up two minutes before, not doing the meta prelim events, just there to zerg the boss, take the chest and port to the next one just before it starts.
