RIP City of Heroes
(edited by Behellagh.1468)
They pretty much mentioned that during their Twitchcon presentation of the Druid. Healing and attacks charges it and when full you can switch to Super Saiyan healer for a short time.
Elite was a poor word choice because these new sub professions aren’t inherently better, just different, some with more complex mechanics to master.

Aren’t their two different pools for mastery points? One for HoT and one for core Tyria?
Never listened to this guy but he does seem to have recaps of every chapter. It is a couple hours long in total so it’s not what you are really looking for unless you get popcorn and watch it at 1.5x speed until he hits the cinematics or anything that looked interesting.

Problem is you are going to either have edited together cinematics or long point by point discussion.
Here’s the playlist of cinematics from Living Story releases from ArenaNet themselves.

Yes. XP from level 80 character will combine if they selected the same mastery. That’s the “no grinding” part of Colin’s HoT announcement. All your 80s contribute, all your 80s benefit from mastery.
The bat wings, as well as the previous white and black wings, are also selectable glider wings in HoT. Gliding is a mastery you need to learn to glide and masteries are only available with HoT.
You do know that you can ask for help from others to secure your guild hall right? Or are the mat cost to upgrade the guild hall once you have it is the issue?
But the OP was questioning why the Not Symbol over the gate to Hoelbrak for his friend. But you’re right, I didn’t tell them they could WP to the other starter zones.
And to be clear, the race home cities are off limits until level 10 and Lion’s Arch until level 35.

Sounds like he has a Play for Free account. You can’t leave the starting areas until you are level 10.
… sigh …
Guardian gets longbow as Dragonhunter
Thief gets staff as Daredevil
Mesmer gets shield as Chronomancer
etc.
It’s right there in the elite specialization wiki link for each profession.
People guessed wrong. They thought Revenant staff was a spear for instance. Staff skins include scythes and more conventional bladed ones.
1.) An armor skin or outfit from the gem shop I’m assuming. Outfits can be used freely on all characters. Armor skins (found in the wardrobe) cost transmutation charges, beyond the first, to be use but they too can be used on characters. They are account bound.
1a.) Same as 1. They are account bound.
1b.) Same as 1. They are account bound.
2.) Yes, and/or bundled like one set is now. Last sale was in August.
3.) Same as 2.)
4.) They are good for one harvesting a day, they don’t recharge in an hour like most real nodes.
1.) Find juvenile versions of pets and befriend them. See pet entry in the wiki.
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Pet#Acquisition.2C_management.2C_and_customization
2.) A bit. Base speed is the same so a large Norn lumbers but a tiny Asura is pumping it’s little legs as they cross the same distance. Gender and one hand vs two hand also matters a bit.
3.) Yes, there are two Gem Shop kits, one for just the hair and one for everything including gender but not race.
4.) Yes, otherwise an Asura Great Sword would look like a dagger to a Norn.
5.) Now we are getting into “the wiki is your friend” territory. The game has an excellent wiki for a question like this. They aren’t “new” weapons, just weapon classes they couldn’t use before.

Oh… so in over 2500 hours of gameplay, I’ve collected enough exp for about 1 centimeter of the first mastery bar?? Really? Serves me right for purchasing in advance. When will I learn?
Thanks for the replies. Who wants my stuff?
It was something like 265,000 back when every time we leveled while level 80 and we got a skill point. So it’s roughly 2 1/2 levels of XP as an 80. You have a tiny bit because you had recently “leveled” before HoT went live.
60 HP not 65 for the elite unlock.
by the time you finish verdant brink, elite specialization is nearly unlocked behellagh, dont really see the point most of them are trying to make regarding elite spec.
Not just unlocked, they want every trait and skill unlocked that that needs 400 HP. Yes that’s only 40 “new” hero challenges. If they had played the BWEs, the WvW players were running fully developed elites and they want to now that it’s live. Not to mention if they want any mastery they have to enter VB which means getting across the SW and that’s “icky” PvE.
Masteries are the new leveling system.
Can you go to Orr when you just start? NO, you are “gated”. XP is charging the mastery bar so you are really still just leveling, except now they combine it with Mastery Points you must earn in game to progress.
Can’t unlock all your traits and utility skills one second into the expansion? Just like when you started the game originally? So instead of getting “free” HP as you level, since there isn’t “true” leveling anymore, you have to do a bit of content.
Don’t know if the hate is coming from BETA players who simply enjoyed having elites fully enabled and now find out they have to start from the beginning. Or from players who roll alts and level them via tomes and finding out they need more HP to unlock the elite fully.
I can sort of understand that feeling because it feels like you “lost” abilities you were looking forward to. Or if you are a WvW specialist where excess HP would have required PvE play, which is why they added a means, although slow, to get HP in WvW.
But as a PvE player, I’m not disappointed so far. Maybe because I avoided the BWEs because I didn’t want to spoil myself either story or the new elites because for beta, they want players to test the elites fully so players get full access to the specialization. And now you don’t and have to pay for it. And that sucks if you weren’t expecting it.
TL;DR – although there is no level bump, we are still leveling which means maps, skills and traits are need to be earned.
There are like 4 people in the US who own 4k. I’m sure they will spend their entire profit into pleasing those people. Just my 2 cent.
4 people in the U.S? Do you live in the backwoods of Mississippi or something? Just because you don’t have it, doesn’t mean others don’t. I am using a 4k 60 inch tv that I paid $900 for.
Also, since HoT the game crashes A LOT in 4k, drop it to 1080p and it doesn’t.
As a more “casual” game, I suspect that there are a lot of players who are running on rigs that cost less than your TV.
I spent like two hours exploring the new borderlands maps. And like 20 minutes in the air temple. The map if freaking huge. That’s the reason you don’t see anybody, besides HoT and Halloween sucking players away.
It’s going to take a bit of time to learn all the shortcuts.
Choose a more convenient key to toggle in and out of action mode. Tap … diddle with things … tap.
Cheapest at NewEgg is $350 for a 600mm (~24") panel.

I expected an 80% reduction.
It certainly not the “THEY REMOVED ALL THE GOLD” hysterical players like the one I got into a … discussion with about what the change would be. Insisted a dev confirmed it was all gone.
i thought it would be lower as well, but still pretty much kills dungeons
Which was their intent. Except for those who want to do the story or gather some badges if they don’t PvP. It’s not the broken ATM that too many players have become used to abusing.
Simple question here,
How exactly am I supposed to gain the XP required to unlock the mastery when I (along with most people I guess) have already got 100% map completion? I tried some fractals level 25-30 and was barely getting anything noticeable. There must be some more efficient way of gaining mastery xp for central Tyria, or is this really going to become a massive grind-fest – which is extremely disappointing if so.
What have you been doing in game since you hit 80? Do more of that.
So progression through the map is interlocked with masteries. We had something like that before, but it was called levels. But since we don’t have levels this makes a bit of sense.
Same with not having enough HP to insta max a specialization. Unlocking skills and traits while we were leveling and so now since we don’t level, we still have to work for them.
So, dead whoop.
Well that’s because of the bi-polar nature of the game. Always fighting between “casual” play, however you define that, and requiring as you put it “an effort”. In your case the effort was obtaining 100K or more T&T bags, likely from the TP or “grinding” (another word open for definition) the previous Halloween event.
That doesn’t make the mini rare, it makes it exclusive to the tier of players where gold or gaming time isn’t a limiting factor in play.

Just tried it again, last time was last night after it went live. Works now. Thanks for helping.
My point is its kittening ridiculous to hand it out for free this year.
If thats your point, then its invalid as it is not for free. People have to farm or buy 100,000 corn in order to get it. I know you are annoyed because rng was against you, we’ve all been there when someone who has played 2 weeks gets a precursor drop but its rng (which I hate) and all you can do is move on.
No, the point is that they added something, which was rare. Letting people spend gold and effort to get it only to make it WAY easier to get next year is complete bs. Getting 100 cobs takes close to no effort. No, RNG wasn’t against me, the mini was actually rare. Making it common is the reason why I’m kittened.
I don’t care if there was a 0,1% people who got it in just a few bags as long as the mini remained rare. I do care when everyone who farmed for it can only feel like an idiot for doing so since they completely ruined the value of the mini.
So you weren’t interested in it as just a cool mini but as a sign of “good fortune”? “Big bank”? “Carpal tunnel?” Since it was account bound it’s not like it’s price on the TP crashed.

Autotargeting is on. This is GS 1 on a mesmer/chronomancer. I was looking forward to this.
I toggled it on, got the dot, but it doesn’t want to lock on to anything. Only when I tab select do I get the cross-hair and circle. I their some combination of targeting settings I’m suppose to also use?
I had 1 crash and 2 hangs. I assume the hangs are due to trying to play before it completely downloaded.
My bandwidth is weak.

My mesmer skills certainly are a lot … quieter. Barley see GS 3 in the daytime. Which is fine.
Not necessarily anime but animated. Animated tales can easily go beyond any live action ones because practical effects aren’t a concern and animation is loads cheaper than mostly realistic CGI. And since it’s not live action, I think it’s easier to suspend disbelief if something doesn’t “feel” right.
What anime has going for it, once you cull 90% of it, is there is still a lot of interesting stories and ideas that can be told on a fantastic scale. Loads more than what we normally get in the West every year.
I agree with Behellagh i would like to have animated shorts then anime the reason why is the cost and time to make a anime….. All that drawing frame to frame 3D animation you dont need to worry about drawing every frame since twining.
I would love to see the same team that worked on SW the clone wars work on it
You misunderstood me. Anime is simply animation attributed to Japan. My CGI comment was more about animation vs live action and not place of origin. Anime gets a rep because of all the the standard tropes but there are a number of series that either avoid them or hang a lampshade on them. It’s just in Japan, a story like Guild Wars 2 would likely be made rather than the western animation houses of the US or Canada.
Wings are also glider wings
you don’t much fly as plummet
Now that’s weird.
Only players making out with the launch time are Hobbits and Kangaroos. That’s OK because they still have terrible pings. So in the end it’s a bad time for everyone. At least everybody can complain.

Well sometimes boutique shops give you an option on motherboards as well. And power supplies, another thing not on the list.
Even rewrite the engine in DX11 won’t help much unless they also rebuild all game assets to take advantage of those eye candies.
Most aren’t complaining about the pretty but the performance. Sure soft shadows and a better lighting will pretty up the game some (and what I would pay for a sun that moves throughout the day and a moon at night) but many complainers are upset that buying an uber graphics card didn’t really improve the game’s performance the same way as a game built with any of the popular current third party game engines.
The issue is this game is counter-intuitive when compared to most PC games where past a certain point, CPU doesn’t matter and it’s ALL GPU. With GW2, it’s the opposite. And an excess of cores doesn’t help. It’s all IPS.
You’ll be back with the baby on your lap or rocking in the carseat/carrier when it’s your turn to get up.
Congrats by the way.
Fractals go down an hour before hand. Usually when they push a patch, the “old” version is still good for an hour so … maybe the patch goes live an hour before? Otherwise we will all be patching at midnight.
But we might have enough already downloaded to get in quickly while it’s downloading the later maps we won’t be able to get to until we get gliding or mushroom hopping.
Who knows.
Only advantage of buying before it goes live is the extra slot.
Do we know how much of a nerf to dungeon gold is happening? They are pretty unrewarding as they stand, so unless u need the title no-one will run them as it’s easier to get tokens and skins from the pvp reward track.
I don’t read all of the posts so maybe there is more accurate information out there somewhere, but I did see this from John Smith:
“Dungeons will still drop things as well as they will still have some gold, they will just have much less gold."*
Interpret “much less gold” as you will.
I’m guessing 80% less.
A third core always significantly improved the performance since launch. As they’ve been working on the engine they changed something where players were now reporting issues in frame rate. That was ANet’s easy fix based on what they thought the problem was at the time and that was the lockout of HR Textures. Now I’ve only seen that done before when it was a VRAM size issue.
Plus I sense a lot of NIH mindset which would likely stop them from investigating if you could adapt a preexisting game engine like UE4 or one of the other multiplatform ones.
That was funny.
When it’s out, you will have to select a hot key in the key binds to toggle it on and off.
950 isn’t a bad card. It’s slightly brain damaged 960 (as the 970 is a brain damaged 980). As fast as an AMD 270X. nVidia needed a card to fit price+performance wise between the 750Ti and the 960.
You have a very good CPU although not K version.
Are you missing a motherboard?
First two cores is required.
I think it’s because the texture load from the dat file and the likely is one of the lesser threads that runs. On a two core system that means time will be taken from the two main threads which will impact framerate. When you have more than two cores, doesn’t hurt it as much.
Don’t forget, this is Dx9. GPU memory management is developer controlled rather than part of the API. Also from what I’ve seen, the game doesn’t use much more than 1GB of video memory so if you have loads more, it doesn’t help.
(edited by Behellagh.1468)
There is basically no difference between OPs two screen shots.
Wrong! One has “PC (DX9)” in the bottom left corner and the other has “PC (DX11)” in the bottom right corner.
Like I said, maybe a little better lighting and the displacement mapping / tessellation on the green thing on the left.
Yep, looks like a new wave of these in recent days.
