True but it is a tad better than the general discussion forum which catches everything.
And I’ve played thief nearly 3 years and didn’t realize that mechanic. I simply thought all those skills were chain skills. Then again I rarely played a stealthy thief.
RIP City of Heroes
Odd spot to put this topic
Not that odd since Elites are part of the HoT expansion.

Well yes because they made it clear it’s a 64-bit Windows client that they are beta testing here and those threads are meant to discuss that.

Yes, mat promotion rates are still random but with a large enough of promotions it does converge on an average rate of roughly 1/3rd of the amount you put it, other than promotion to T6. That means 50 in gives you roughly 17 and 250 in gives you roughly 84.
I promote numerous times nightly and get within 10% of these averages 95% of the time.

RTFAQ people. I underlined the important steps so many are skipping.
I already have the 32-bit client; will I have to completely download the game again?
No. The 64-bit client uses the same data as the 32-bit client. If you already have the game installed, you can follow these instructions to avoid needing to reinstall the game:
- Download the 64-bit client.
- Copy the downloaded program into your Guild Wars 2 game folder.
- Update any shortcuts to the game to point to the new file instead.
This process will be automatic once we get out of beta.

This process will be automatic once we get out of beta.I would like to remind you that 64bit versions Windows have two “Program Files” folders for a VERY specific reason.
C:\Program Files\ <—————— Programs run from here are run in 64bit
C:\Program Files (x86)\ <—— Programs run from here cause Windows to drop into 32bitYou just told everyone to run a 64bit client from the very same directory that causes Windows to work in 32bit.
Might I suggest that you set the 64bit beta client to do a fresh install to the “C:\Program Files\” folder then just have us advanced users (Desktop Support Tech right here) copy the gw2.dat to the 64bit installation.
You can avoid some bugs right there without having to hunt down the cause.
It doesn’t matter. All of my games are in a separate folder to start with not to mention the many players who have their game on a different drive altogether from the OS.

If Anet do a native Mac client they would be crazy not to write it using the Metal API.
Depends on what version of OS X they want to require. I’m not sure how stubborn Mac users are to new OS upgrades.

Seems rather standard. You probably just need to discover it.

Also looks like there’s going to be an Exalted mail courier besides golden feather wings.
Interestingly the price of HoT in China is 10 Yuan higher than when the original game was released, 98 vs 88. The deluxe edition, similar to ours is 198 Yuan.

Because people who enjoy the game are playing and not hanging out on the forum to air their grievances looking for others that agree with them.
The game is far from perfect, no game ever is, but for some anything that is even remotely different from what they expected is rage quit material.
Plus nobody likes it when their source of play is altered in any way (re: dungeons, WvW, Fractals).

After you are done with the JP in the rift (chest and vista), there is an entrance at the top of the cliff that leads you into the caverns. You don’t have to do the JP there to get that area.
Also you don’t need to do the event to get Forsaken Halls, just walk up to the entrance should discover it.

To be clear if you have 500 crafting on one character, switching another character to the same crafting does NOT give the 2nd character 500 crafting. Each character’s crafting skills are totally independent from every other character. Fortunately crafted ascended gear is account bound so one of your characters can craft them for all (subject to armor/weapon type).

You get about 9 a day from them. The choice is yours.
RIP City of Heroes
Well to nitpick, nearly means close too. But 14 days from the 23rd, including the 23rd would put it on Nov 5th. So before we got the reply, the usual reset is on a Tuesday which would mean either 3rd or the 10th. 3rd is nearer to the 5th than the 10th so most players in my guild expected it the 3rd. Annoyed by the shortness of it, the calculated distraction of HoT and the key ingredient of the Nightfury piece.
But I understand. They want to roll out raids very soon as the next distraction. Then Wintersday.

Lots of pumpkins in the low level portion of level 1-15 zones. Then of course the Labyrinth has around 15-20 scattered about.

Yes, outfits remembering the dye setup for each would be a nice QoL improvement.

Precursor crafting was suppose to be the way a player can bypass the RNG to acquire a precursor. That’s it. It did drop the price of Zap on the TP by 15% but since they are account bound there is will be no uptick in supply from crafting, just fear that demand will drop if players can acquire it via other means.
The price of that however is governed by the price of the materials needed and a sudden shift in demand will raise those prices as everyone rushes for the same limited supply of raw materials.

LAA allows a 32 bit app running on a 64-bit OS to use 4GB of address space.

Well those spikes makes it attractive to buy gems with cash and exchange them for gold which then drops the price. I imagine the hot dog/bun problem, selling gems in fix sizes that don’t always align to prices of items, thus leaving left over gems, may also be a source of sold gems.
RIP City of Heroes
SoulstitchMMO has his knickers in a twist over HoT so it’s best not to feed him.
RIP City of Heroes
Yes.
Oh dear, he’s taking after John.
RIP City of Heroes
Imagine the exchange being two buckets, one with gems, one with gold. The value of gems is based on how much gold there is relative to gems. As players buy gems with gold, there is fewer gems and more gold in the exchange so the price for the gems remaining goes up. When players sell gems for gold, the opposite is true and gems become cheaper.
The exchange was kickstarted with a little gold and a kittenton of gems at launch which is why gems were dirt cheap at the very beginning.

I managed to have enough karma to get one piece of Karma gear (the rampagers Armageddon Breastplate). I have 11 gold to my name. Should I just go start leveling crafting?
Low level crafting can be a money sink. Since everyone does it, most items are worth far less than the materials required to make them. Most leveling crafting guides focus on speed and not cost.
What have you been doing with all the drops you’ve gotten on the way to 80?
RIP City of Heroes
Hero points are the new minor open world group event. They are equivilent to the low level world bosses in core Tyria in and around the starter maps.
RIP City of Heroes
But be aware that the dump will occur as soon as you click on any of the mastery lines so don’t click randomly.
RIP City of Heroes
Bosses and resets are always based on UTC and just like the sun is setting an hour earlier since Saturday in most of the US, so are bosses spawning and the daily reset is an hour earlier.
RIP City of Heroes
Realize that those two items are new “currencies” that devoted PvP and WvW players can use get gold because gold and the TP are the great RNG equalizer in this game.
RIP City of Heroes
The mastery system is simply account wide leveling for a game mechanics or other content unlocks. Every level 80 contributes and every character benefits. That’s why the XP is so high. They weren’t meant to be maxed in a week much less a month. I think it’s a reward that’s a darn sight better than SPs we use to get a long time ago.
It’s their game and if ANet is adding healing, there’s probably a reason we haven’t experienced yet (ie raids).
As for the elite specializations, I see more crying that they aren’t some God Mode variant of the base profession. That’s partially due to the phrase that describes the specialization, elite because it’s more than just a trait line, propagated to the sub-profession and then echo chambered until a portion of the player base thinks that was what was promised by the devs. They are meant to be different, not superior.
Still, I’m enjoying learning a new way to play on my existing characters, the new area and mechanics (gliding).
RIP City of Heroes
These “Convince me …” threads are all the same. The OP’s purpose is to insult anyone who tries to convince them to do the “pro” course of action. Buy the expansion. Play a particular profession. Do a particular playstyle. Doesn’t matter anything we say.
It’s T-bait, plain and simple.
RIP City of Heroes
Hmm.. Let me do the math.
4,294,967,295 gems needed
8000 gems cost $100 USD
You would need to place 536,870.911875
8000 gem orders, surely getting the attention of any reputable credit card agency out there. For the sake of accuracy, let’s say you can buy the exact amount of gems you wanted even though that method is currently not possible in the game yet.To unlock this episode, you would need $53,687,091.19 to play this episode, before tax. Sounds pretty pricey to me.
But we only need to sell one … ANet Gem Shop Team
RIP City of Heroes
T6 fine mats got cheaper, ectos also. just like dyes through the bench, rare weapons…..
Oh boy, other than blood, T6 fine plummeted. Haven’t looked yet to see if they are still the best value for converting Laurels.
RIP City of Heroes
There’s no reason why they would need to change the server for a 64-bit client.
I do notice that there is a marked increase in memory usage in HoT over core Tyria which I attribute to the player density and increased environment complexity. But I’ve not gotten an OOM error yet.
RIP City of Heroes
Actually the “big” thing now is ReShade. And yes it’s allowed.
RIP City of Heroes
What part that the expansion was suppose to be challenging for level 80s that was unclear?
RIP City of Heroes
Their compact systems are totally different. Do you know that Star Citizen delayed a lot because CryEngine simplest does not support some of its features and need custom coding. It is not worthwhile for ANet to adopt another engine for their game.
Well all game engines require various degrees of custom coding because they are rarely all encompassing for all genres.
RIP City of Heroes
Be nice. While there would be a bit of work involved, if they could preserve all the art, animations, and sound assets, that cuts down a lot of needing to start entirely from scratch.
The OP called out UE4 for it’s looks but this game was never about photorealistic environments. And while the UE engines do scale down to lower end hardware well enough, it’ll end up performing and looking worse than what we have now on the lower end systems. So they would be sacrificing a portion of their potential base of players.
Also UE4 is a 64-bit only engine. Sure nowadays systems running a 32-bit OS are all but obsolete but the game did come out supporting that. Same is true with Dx9 support as the UE4 dropped support for that. Again that’s tied to the now long unsupported by Microsoft Windows XP and shouldn’t be an issue for new players but it was supports once.
I don’t think you have any idea of how insanely difficult it is transferring all of those assets from a massive complete game to an entirely different framework.
In fact, it’s easier to start from scratch.
Depends. If they kept the original source asset files, before they manipulated for their engine. From the various behind the scenes videos as well as their jobs page it appears they use some fairly standard tools and I know export/import tools exist for various game engines.
And I did say “if they could preserve”.
RIP City of Heroes
Well there’s been a lot of patches, some quite large, on a near daily basis. I haven’t really noticed but do realize if you spend more time with large crowds of players, bandwidth certainly surges.
RIP City of Heroes
Well there is a festival vendor in the NW corner of LA against the wall who offered some of last year’s Halloween rewards. No idea how many he will carry once this year’s event is over.

Compared to the other 5 spec lines, this one is “elite” because it includes additional stills, mechanics and a weapon. It’s players who don’t bother to read the articles on them who mistakenly believed them to be elite.
Also when they got out into the open game world during the beta weekends, before any type of balance tweaks, they were more powerful in PvP, or more likely non-beta PvPers didn’t know how to counter them. Didn’t help that at the time they still sported their base profession icon.
It was after each of the beta weekends when cries of Pay to Win popped up on the forum from PvPers and WvWers who ran up against them. That reinforced the belief that they were suppose to be “elite” in terms of strength so when after several balance patches from the beta weekends and internal testing what we got weren’t so OP, some players felt like they got hoodwinked.
RIP City of Heroes
Why did you believe that precursor crafting was going to be “cheap”? Nobody ever said that. It is cheaper if you collect rather than buy the mats needed.
But once again players choose to pay for immediacy. Enough people do that at the same time then there’s a supply squeeze on those mats which pushes up the price and now refined ascended mats are now 2 to 3 times the price. Oh well.
RIP City of Heroes
Colin pretty specifically indicated that you had to do HoT content so existing professions could “grow themselves”.
Again, that is far from being specific or definitive wording.
Like most non-specific statements it’s open to interpretation but “within the jungle” to me means these sub-professions were unlocked doing HoT content. I’m actually a tad disappointed that there isn’t some minor story content to even unlock the elite specialization. But I didn’t walk away from the PAX South announcement with the idea I would/could get it totally unlocked without doing any content what so ever.

Everything.
Not worth my time determining what should or shouldn’t be salvage other than a cursory look at what they sell for on the TP and then it’s usually only a few rare and exotic drops that shouldn’t be salvaged.
RIP City of Heroes
It’s not difficult to acquire wealth in this game. The complaint surrounding those using the dungeon reward change is speed of acquiring wealth. They are looking for loot pinatas they could mindlessly hit repeatedly.
Why? They want whatever they want as fast as possible and the great equalizer for the RNG drop mechanic is gold and the TP. That or exchanging gold for gems because they don’t want to pay cash for gem shop items.
Some players simply react poorly when their prize is moved.

That’s not the way this game is set up. If you want to progress your char, you have to do the work on it. You probably would be better off in another game where any char progression is an automatic unlock by logging on.
Have fun playing Warcraft Legion then.
Except, up until this expansion that’s exactly how the game was set up. Are you brand new to the game? Are you completely unware of the existence of tomes? Up until the expansion, and even right now in the expansion if you don’t want your elite, that’s exactly how this game works.
Anet has completely screwed it’s playerbase on this.
Are you unaware of the PAX South presentation?
And you might be wondering – the system doesn’t sound like it gives me skills or traits. What is GW2 doing to give me those for my characters? Well, the answer to that question takes us to our next major feature of Guild Wars 2 Heart of Thorns: specializations.
The specialization system will allow each profession to master a new specialization that grows that profession into something new – almost a secondary profession, if you will. So I could stop now and not tell you anything, and you could have to wait and find out, or I could tell you one of them… what do you think? [screaming] Okay… so.. as we go into the jungle, there is a rich druidic history in the jungle, so it is only fitting that rangers be able to learn and master the abilities of the druid within the jungle, and so, rangers will be able to grow themselves to become a druid. And when they do so, they will have available to them – they can use the staff weapon, which a ranger could never use before. Along with that, when a ranger becomes a druid, they will have access to a new heal skill, a new elite skill, a new set of utility skills, and most importantly, new profession mechanics that fundamentally change the way the ranger plays if they turn into a druid.
Colin pretty specifically indicated that you had to do HoT content so existing professions could “grow themselves”.
