RIP City of Heroes
RIP City of Heroes
There are quite lot of people here who don’t even work for anet commenting on how much work it would be to work in adding Dx11 support…
Dx11 is several years old already and many other games out there have been making use of it. It does make a difference, and it’s really tiresome to keep seeing a bunch of people making excuses for anet. If they’re gonna make excuses, then let them do it.
Currently there’s pretty much no way to guarantee a decent framerate in highly-concentrated zerg fights on this game whereas on other game that I’ve tried, XIV, the game runs much smoother in areas with high concentration of players. Sure, this is attributed to a lot more than just Dx11 but the fact remains that we could be getting a lot better performance than we’re getting on here in some scenarios and it’s certainly something worth requesting.
Either way, this topic is always the same thing… a few people claim that they want the game to run on Dx11, and then like 20+ people claiming “they don’t have the resources, stop being self-entitiled!” and it’s getting annoying.
And there are quite a number of people who don’t work for ANet saying it’s easy and should have been done already.
The primary benefit from Dx11’s rework of Dx10, and Dx10 has some significant changes over Dx9, is that Dx11 is primarily thread safe, meaning the rendering code could be broken up into multiple threads where each thread could call the Dx11 API and not step on each other. Which in turn can take advantage of CPUs that have the ability to run more than four threads at the same time.
Of course it doesn’t matter if the ANet engine dev in their reddit thread specifically said that it’s only rarely that the renderer, the code that uses the API and the time spent in the API, is what’s limiting the frame rate. The Dev goes on and says that their data and code isn’t thread safe which currently prevents them from adding more threads to speed divide and conquer the code that is the current bottleneck to performance. They are working through the existing code to thread safe the data but it’s a slow process. Don’t forget that the game engine was modified from the original Guild Wars game series and created in the earliest days of ArenaNet, over 10 years ago, likely closer to 15.
Now switching from Dx9 to Dx11 without fixing these other issues first with their code, it will not buy us much. Even looking at the screenshot in the OP from whatever Batman Arkum that was, with the exception of the displacement mapping/tessellation on the left side “column” I don’t see any visual improvement. Maybe higher rez texture or filtering or anti-aliasing mode. But considering 98% of the time playing, my character is less than 15% the height of my screen, additional rendering fidelity isn’t really going to be noticed.

I just looked again. I can’t mail gold or items from a P4F account. That is locked out. You can mail stuff to them but not the other way, I never disagreed with that.
RIP City of Heroes
Yes, having lots of full character models vs the generic stand-ins seems to really grind the heap space, accelerating the swiss cheesing of the heap.

When I first started and was dirt poor, I would use the cheapest tool for the job. Then I got a bit of coin and only use mythril tools because I was rarely in Orr.
Now I have a set of gem store tools and don’t care anymore.
RIP City of Heroes
I came here just to post this and now I will go.
Brilliant!
That’s why I use this in other players TFH posts.

You can edit the title directly underneath the title in the thread itself. It’s not part of editing your post.
Thanks. I knew I saw it somewhere.

Sometimes you don’t even need more shares than the current chairman’s to influence a company. Activist shareholders routinely influence larger companies through a combination of holding shares and convincing other shareholders to vote with them.
Judging from the article it’s pretty clear Nexon was doing exactly that, but gave up and cut their losses when they (presumably) couldn’t secure enough friendly votes to rival the NCSoft/Net Marble alliance. Given how aggressive Nexon was in trying to exert control over NCSoft, it’s really not unreasonable to assume they were already pushing their agenda long before this fight.
And losing. Otherwise they wouldn’t have tried to take control. In the end Nexon ate some $150 million plus in just lost stock value.
RIP City of Heroes
Caught the title misspelling after I hit post, thought I could edit it and couldn’t. Sad face.
Ashen did a great job countering. Thank you.
To be clear. Morgan Stanley bought the stock from Nexon. It sold a bit to NCSOFT’s CEO founder raising his ownership from 10% to 12%. That’s all that’s been reported. Also Nexon didn’t buy the stock to begin with from NCSOFT, they bought some of the CEO/founder’s personal share and much later a little more off the open market late last year in an attempt to pressure NCSOFT to do a few things Nexon wanted. At no time did Nexon have anybody on NCSOFT’s board, that was one of the things they wanted.
Ms Cox was hired several months before Nexon buying any NCSOFT stock. Check her CV. She started working there, again, in March of 2012. The Nexon stock purchase was in June 2012. And as indicated, she worked for ANet before working for Nexon. She also worked for Disney I think so lets add Mickey to the grand conspiracy.
And yes, she still works at ANet.

She’s the one to “blame” that new armor skins will only be acquired in game now and not the “ebil” cash shop.
All stockholders can do in any corporation is vote on measures brought to them annually at the stockholders meeting including determining who is on the board of directors. A minority owner (talking strict minority as in less than 50% + 1) has to find like minded individuals to gain that 50% + 1. Nexon only had 15.08%. They were until the Netmarble deal the largest single stockholder but NCSOFT’s CEO along with Netmarble’s was larger.

Easy, cap HPs to not much beyond one ES until there’s another.
RIP City of Heroes
It is automatically unlocked for PvP to ensure fairness in builds; everyone having access to every part of their profession makes this possible – I see no issue in that.
Without it, some players will have certain advantages over other players.
As long as you have HoT. But as I’ve said before, Elite Specializations don’t mean they are better than their current professions, just different.
RIP City of Heroes
And Nexon lost a pile of money in the process. Needless to say their joint development studio is also 86ed.
RIP City of Heroes
Nexon sold off their entire interest in NCSOFT last week.
So please no more “Nexon is pulling ANet’s strings” conspiracy theories. Nexon never had any influence on NCSOFT, much less ANet.
ANet has always been, since years before the first Guild Wars, a 100% owned NCSOFT company with it’s own officers, none of whom came from NCSOFT.
ANet is the master of their own fate, always been. Assign any poor decisions they made in your opinion to ANet itself and not some shadowy figures overseas.

ERP I believe is Erotic Role Playing.

Honestly I could care less about how many HP we need to unlock the elite specs. What ticks me off is how short of notice we got.
Because they knew the instagratification types would rail about it on the forums, reddit, twitter, anyplace they could complain about it and thus nerf early sales.
So much for insta-leveling a Revenant and immediately elite.

So how long until we see The Monarch cosplay?

The game’s 32 bit. Even with Large Address Aware the memory heap can get swiss cheesed and an allocation fails.
Restart the game every few hours. Same effect but it will be on your terms at least.

What? Did you think it’ll be the same cost as a normal Specialization line? Did you think they would be totally unlocked on day one? Oh no, you will have to work for it.
The cost includes all the new skills as well as traits. And Hero Challenges are 10 HP each.
RIP City of Heroes
I assumed you entered the code you got. That’s it until they push the patch out. Hopefully they will do this sooner than at launch. I expect they would either tomorrow or Thursday morning (for them) the latest.
We wouldn’t want to see something like the last major patch that took way too long to download for it’s size.
RIP City of Heroes
They are talking about the rewards we currently get that raises our WXP directly.

Short form, point and shoot. There’s now a toggle that will bring up a reticle and when it’s over something, that something becomes the target.
There are a few additional targeting changes being tossed in at well.
RIP City of Heroes
Seems weird to me that a newly made character would instantly know where everything is and have access to level 80 areas.
That’s always the problem with alts in an MMO.
RIP City of Heroes
So no more pile of NPC fighters in the first minute of the Giant at Nageling. What about non-targeted AoEs? It would certainly make the NPCs more durable.
This is a pet change, not an NPC one. They will still all die…
Duh, “player” minions. Some reason I think of NPCs as “players” and since they aren’t high damage as “minions”
RIP City of Heroes
Since map completion gives Gifts of Exploration, what’s your suggestion then to acquire more or do players only craft two classic Legendaries.

Yes dagger/dagger. I played a thief before this and they have both dagger/dagger and pistol/pistol as load out options.
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/List_of_elementalist_skills#Dagger
For fire and air, the two attunements I use while soloing, most of the attacks are short range cone so I only need to point at my target rather than target them. I also slot my weapons at the moment with signets of fire for the extra burst of damage every so often.
But like I said, I’m probably not playing the profession “right”.

I still don’t understand why people can’t exhibit some kind of control over spending. The “it’s burning kitten in my pocket” so I don’t think twice about spending it excuse only holds up for so long.
If you are saving for a specific thing, place an order with the amount you have toward what you want to buy. Sure 200g for Zap seems pointless except you can pull it out and post another bid with your new savings you set aside for it. There, out of site, out of mind.
RIP City of Heroes
It only takes 50 keys if you are only talking about full tickets and you start with 0 scraps. Even with the old numbers it came out on average, over a large number of chests, about one ticket every 25. It’s just starting from 0 scraps it’s actually closer to 40.
RIP City of Heroes
I just wish everything crafted at the same speed. Ascended stuff takes quite a while to craft. It’s even more ridiculous when it’s the time-gated stuff that you can only craft once per day.
I think the increased length of time is there to make sure you have time to cancel the crafting on the more expensive items to craft.
It’s a layer of security so you don’t accidentally craft something that you didn’t mean to.
Used that once when I accidentally clicked on dowels instead of planks.
RIP City of Heroes
I’m using D/D but I haven’t bothered reading any guilds that would likely tell me I’m having fun for the last 40 levels all wrong.
RIP City of Heroes
City of Heroes added this at one point because there were so much content and it was traditionally level restricted, so you can and often did out level it, players wanted the ability to turn off XP to prevent that from happening.
That reason isn’t a thing in GW2 but since drops are adjusted to our true level and salvage returns are based on the item’s level we still have a leveling problem.
RIP City of Heroes
Actually I think they were quite proud of the speed it ran at. It was a feature.

Does the wardrobe currently have glider skins displayed? You may have it, just not visible until Hot goes live.

Are you trying to say the new precurser mastery’s will be botted?
If you can do it, a bot can do it.
There are video’s of bots doing jumping puzzles first time every time faster than a human.
Honestly I’ve never seen a bot in game in nearly 3 years.
RIP City of Heroes
Just the level 10 one.

Because it is funny watching people panic and start listing lower and lower until the item comes more in line with a reality price.
Now I don’t mind the stacking of multiple prices you’ve done, you’re free to do that after all, but who are you (or we, or anyone) as seller to say what is and what isn’t a reasonable price of a certain item?
Everything is worth what it’s purchaser will pay for it.
Buyers. If yours isn’t selling because everyone is constantly undercutting but those are selling … you set your price … poorly.
RIP City of Heroes
A bad side-effect: players can whisper hateful messages to the guy who set a box of fun right in the middle of the crowd in front of the bank NPC/ merchant/ trade broker.
And this is bad how, since the player who dropped the item is an kitten.
RIP City of Heroes
If the price you listed for was a “good” price relative to actual volume of trades, it will sell, it may just take longer. But for higher priced items that listing you originally undercut by a copper may be the price nobody is willing to pay. I get caught by this on occasion if I don’t do any research on an unfamiliar item. All the copies of that item were sold at a “reasonable” price and what I find when I go to sell is an unreasonable one.
One reason for nonrefundable listing fees is to encourage sellers to set their sell price near/within the normal trading range. Now you don’t have to look up every item because experience should tell you something’s wonky about a price of an item you frequently sell is “off” so maybe you should go check out it’s sell history. The downside to this is this extra effort to set a good sell price is a reason why seemingly most players sell to the highest bid which fuels the “dreaded ebil flipper” bwahahaha! (To be clear, I don’t think player traders are evil.)
If your sell price is reasonable, then a large undercut is because they just want it to sell quick.
RIP City of Heroes
I disagree. The 860K has similar performance to the Phenom II 965 and that’s at standard clock and this one is OC by 15%. The GTX 750Ti is a modern low end GPU.
Since we don’t know what your dead laptop had for CPU and GPU, it’s tough to give you a guesstimate of it’s relative performance compared to what you had. The 750Ti ranks pretty high compared to mobile GPUs.
It’s not bad in a pinch. But squishy is right, Intel would be a lot better, even an old one.
Here’s an old one.
i5-2500 (non K) true quadcore with a GTX 770 and Win 10 Pro.
RIP City of Heroes
I expect it’s the same as a normal specialization. It becomes available at level 80 and you start putting HP into it. First minor activates it.
RIP City of Heroes
That’s what I meant, since there isn’t a separate HoT client and since this seems to be basic functionality so we should all get it, HoT or not.
RIP City of Heroes
Yes it’s in HoT. That’s why they showed it.
RIP City of Heroes
Only one I can find, don’t know how standard it is.
RIP City of Heroes
Who’s betting they will crack down on those “tools” once this is out.
RIP City of Heroes
If your character is level 80 and you don’t have exotic gear after a month then you are doing something wrong.
RIP City of Heroes
Not sure I will use it often but some of the other options like using the target for AoE targeting as well I will. Anything to improve targeting is welcomed.

i want a genetically engineered charr about the size of a house cat. i’d drop some srs bucks for that.
Great now all I can think of is a halloween costume for cats. A really mellow or sedated cat.
