Their main argument is we have more stealth than them, we have more mobility than them and more burst damage, those are their main reasons saying we are hard counters and we will be even more so once the patch hits. In pve I play my Mesmer for raids and such so I lurk around their forums and it’s appalling I thought thieves were all doom and gloom but our forums are optimistic comparatively.

90% of traits are passive already
like -20% cooldown on X skill type, or +33% duration on Y condition, or +10% damage on Z

The problem isn’t the static Passover, as stated by the OP it is the Passives that Proc, notably the ones that Proc on certain health percentage or on cc those are the ones that cause issues, they take away from skilled play, now if they toned them down it would help but removing them all together wouldn’t make me lose any sleep.

My first main was Thief. I migrated to Mesmer and love the class. Yep, Thief getting some love is a good thing. The problem is that they hamstrung Mesmer in the process.

The long term result is likely to be that the “nerf x” cry will hit thief next. I wish ANET had better sense and didn’t make such radical moves.

How is thief the reason that mesmer gets nerfed?

It’s not that Thieves got Mesmers nerfed, but the Mesmers are crying saying Thieves are the ultimate hard counter to them and are calling for the death off Thieves before the patch even hits.

It’s sad to say that even as a Thief Main, when other thieves tell Thief players to run a different class in a match it’s bad, but every once in a while you get teams that can do well with 2 thieves if they both no what they are doing. But 90% of the time it’s a liability, granted you should never need more than 1 Thief on a team but it shouldn’t be to the point where it almost guarantees a loss. If only the Devs would allow for no class stacking due to the nature of the balance currently but we will never see that because of Qeue times.

Sure, OP, the changes wouldn’t be overpowered or anything but… it’s power creep. And what need is Preparedness baseline if we do more damage over time in our auto-attacks, which puts less pressure on our initiative use? And you’re right, we could use more initiative gain in other trait lines. They’re even doing that next patch with one of the Acro grandmasters. They also have alternative ways to buff Steal in the game as well in every trait line (Improv, Mug, Stealth, Sword Equilibrium). Steal doesn’t need a baseline cooldown nerf.

Unfortunately with this game, we can’t go by “it wouldn’t hurt,” just to buff it. Because when the nerf train comes it’s just going to hurt even worse and the class may fundamentally change in other ways.

A big flaw in your argument about Preparedness, they are balancing thief Initiative costs around 15 initiative pools, which is a problem either balance initiative costs around the 12 ini pool or provide Preparedness Baseline

Please allow players to toggle party/squad nameplates, it allows for much unnecessary visual clutter on screen, especially in raids where it becomes a huge annoyance.

Why? That will add visual clutter, which we know Anet is against in pvp, it’s a skill with the chance to be a finisher, if you want your personal finisher then use the actual stomp, now if Anet allows players to toggle on/off opponents finishers I don’t see why not then I’m all for you having it but until then I say it would be a bad choice.

Tldr: I hate the amount of visual clutter I can’t turn off on screen.

I’m not talking perfect balance, but when they make changes geared for only one game type it generally negatively effects the other game types where it would have been a non issue.and it would allow them to make it so some classes do not get excluded from game types due to this.

And with those games thy have horrible track records for balance and they never had split balance either which could be used as an argument in favor of splitting balance between game modes.

I cant follow the logic in thread, if there is any.

They are refusing to refund players for needless extras after the Account Bound slots were allowed to be purchased.

So they should remove the Accound Bound tags, and allow the extra Harvesting Tools and Salvage kits to be sold to other players on the Trading Post. So they can sell them for in game gold to others and let allows buy them cheaper.

I don’t get the logic. You are saying if you didn’t get a refund, you want to sell your account bound tools. You don’t explain WHY this should happen.

Because the extras are now useless. They serve no purpose other than to be deleted at this point. Why not let us sell them to other players or give them away to others if we cannot receive a refund?

The functionality of the items is still the same. What they did before, they still do now.

I’m not understanding why you have to come here just to defend the fact that they refuse to refund something, they already did before?

I’ve explained my reasoning. So that they can be sold to other players on the Trading Post who will get use out of them.

You want a refund for something that you purchased for convenience, you did not have to purchase multiples of the account bound tools because you could freely switch them between characters, they did not change the function of the tools like they did before when people bought multiples since they could not transfer the tools between characters.

You logic has no merit, now it would if the account bound bag slots could only hold the gathering tools but they do not.

I’m glad they haven’t split it. I love people who think the entire player base only plays one game mode.

I also appreciate that people think pve needs tighter balance. As if we can’t just knock some health off of boss mob, you know cause that’s harder then balancing 1000 interconnecting skills.

It wouldn’t be a problem if there was ever a balance to begin with, but it’s been proven that they are unable to balance the game with all game modes interconnect through skills. I know players play multiple game modes and splitting specs doesn’t stop one from playing each game mode.

Also it may cost a little extra investment up front but once it’s in place it will pay for itself in the end by being easier to maintain, and not making players leave due to issues in game related to balance.

It is a rip off because they allowed all of those items to be refunded. En masse when they made the change from Soulbound to Accountbound. En masse refunds. But now they are refusing to do it after making another change which is basically the same thing?

It’s not. The functionality of the item itself was changed when they made those go from soulbound to account bound.

People bought extras, that we unnecessary to begin with. They introduced a way to make the extras pointless. They refunded players.

People bought extras again for convenience. They introduced a way to make those extras unnecessary again. They should be allowed to refund them. (And they are allowing it but they are refused to do full refunds.)

Only flaw with this argument is the account bound bag slots can hold any items not just the gathering tools. And any use you got out of the tools from time of purchase now would have been made up for the value of roughly 12$ In most cases.

Why has there never been split Balance between sPvP, WvW and PvE?

It would be so much better for each respective player base, Anet has shown that will do it on one aspect like Revealed debuff having different up times. I believe it would make Anet’s life easier and promote healthier game play throughout all game types, in regards to massive complaints about balance in one game type ruining playability for the classes in the other game types.

Has Anet released an official statement on this subject.

They are most likely going to nerf the CD reduction in alacrity so the Mond wrack cd won’t be as much of an issue, but we won’t know for sure till they give us some more info.

the restorative illusions is not an issues in most cases, couple with the nerfs to alacrity depending what they are and the need to Quickness Rez/Stomps that would be a heavy handed need and would drop Mesmer from being Viable in any role. Since with the vagueness of all of the “Goals” some classes will not receive nerfs. Once the alacrity is fixed the RI would most likely be kept in check, and for RI with 0 illusions is healing on the assumption of one illusion up constantly due to the Baseline.

My ideas for a balance:

4. Make Continuum Shift last longer or make it do something else. Where it stands it’s only good for halving the recharge of gravity well or Time Warp.

The fixes that would be acceptable and best balance for CS is to make it stop resetting Elites, or make it an Elite in and of itself and either give it a static duration or make it have a scaling based on Clones up when cast without shattering them. Both options I see as being very acceptable and I believe it would work great as an Elite do to the power of resetting CD and Health pool.

3.Get turned into a moa without warning and for ludicrously long periods of time, be a sitting duck with no counterplay or access to your skills whatsoever.

Moa is my biggest concern with mesmers, way bigger than daze+stun from stealth. That’s why I love facing chrono bunkers with their double gravity wells.
Moa is one of the worst skill ever: you can’t break out of it, it lasts 10 kittening second (are they serious ?!). It has been there forever, and has received close to no complaint. Why ? WHY ?!

I’m really scared that after the balance patch we see chrono shatter with double moa from stealth. This kitten has to go.

No complaints because competent players can kill Mesmers while Moa’d or you can get away instead of running around like a Moa with its head cut off on point and not doing anything.

When you’re moa’d you’re usually focused by everyone.

Again, if you are Cc’d you should survive against anything other than 1v1 you are also capable of disengaging, who is to say you don’t have help while being Moa’d, everything looks bad in a vacuum every argument against Moa always talks about being outnumbered and that’s a flaw for those arguments.

Yeah all elite specs have broken aspects, fixes for Chono would be to either stop CS from resetting Elites, which is a no brainier or what would be the better choice is to make it an Elite all in itself. Goodbye 90% QQ about Chronomancer in sPvP especially with changes to quickness stomps/Rez.

You probably never played against thief+mesmer: moa from stealth while you get immobilized and burst to death.

I have, again comes down to player competency, if you get Moa’d On point and are 1v2 a Thief and Mesmer you can disengage, if they are dumb they both chase you which stops them decapping and you will die, if they are smart let you run away, or one chases to kill you which is in your favor since Moa is very capable of downing players. You should never be able to survive a coordinated burst from 2 burst classes especially when Cc’d, so again to recap it comes down to competency.

Core mesmer vs chronomancer balance

Universally they could give the core specs a piece of the elite. Each elite has varying functionality revolving around the common:

  1. Weapon
  2. Trait line
  3. F skill
  4. Utilities

For example, if they gave each core profession the ability to use the elite utilities that expands some options. You could potentially apply that idea to any of the other three elite functions. Like each profession could get access to the F skill. For mesmer that’s straightforward but for other professions some base functionality would need built-in with the lack of trait support.

Just some ideas. Obviously this wouldn’t bring core specs all the way up but would potentially improve them. Though, aside from massively buffing all the core specs I’m not sure they’ll ever be as strong as the elites.

If the lowered/removed the power creep from the elite specs and reworked the core specs flaws it would be relatively easy to balance the two different specs, it would take a little more effort on Anets part to apply proper balance and to Better QV the changes before releasing maybe if they implemented a PTR to help get feedback prior to rolling out any changes, the thing that hinders Anets attempts at balance are their heavy handed blanket nerfs/buffs to skills/traits and.

Take well Thieves FS/LS for example before they applied a universal need to it where it allowed the thief to activate if FS missed, and strip two boons when LS hit, they nerfed it into the ground by making it have to hit to allow LS to chain and reduced to one boon steal all the while increasing the initiative cost.

Heavy handed nerfs like that are what break classes and specs to be undesirable, now if they chose one of those nerfs it would be a little more understandable.

I believe a simple way to bring Chrono in line with Core Mes is to reduce Alacrity CD reduction to 45% and to make CS not reset Elites, but even then Chrono would be chosen due to the inherent flaws of Core Mes.

Another idea that I see as being drastic is to make CS an Elite, that change would make it be a very competitive choice for elites in all game modes.

I could care less if they did, the glaring issue is the power creep and imbalance, there are a few ways they can help correct the issues first and foremost, tactfully bring elite specs in line with all other specs, separate Balance for pvp and pve, they have proven they can do this by the small fact of revealed applying differently for both game types. There are a few other things that would help.

Yeah blur is not overpowered, for one you are rooted into place, two it does very low dos even if someone face tanks the whole duration. Toning down alacrity a little won’t ruin the class but with how heavy handed Anet usually is they may shave too much and ruin it.

Agemnon so you want to need the main two viable thief survivability methods and give them more single target cc, in a game mode that is geared for team fights. That would make thief highly unusable due to the amount of Aoe and passive a every other class have access to, and Anet stated their goal for thief to be The mobility class.

The simplest ways to remove Chronobunker is to remove quickness Rez, check and to stop CS from allowing double Elite, that would normallize Chronobunker without destroying the class

What other boon or condi is only accessible by one class? I’d say their unique mechanic is being able to reset any and all skills on their bar as well as health and endurance. Alacrity just supplements the time theme. My point was just that thief has little to no access to the “do stuff quickly” boons, which seems weird.

He’s probably referring to stuff as Banners, Empowered Allies and Assassins presence.
Alacrity pretty much falls in the same category, right now.

I could argue that stealth should be unique to thief, or at least that it should have the most access to it. Then we have mesmer and scrapper…

I wholeheartedly agree with Thieves being the epitome of stealth users, since you know they have a whole trait line dedicated to it should provide better group utility with stealth and all, Mesmers should have some access due to misdirection and thematics of the class, but engineers, Rangers and so on should have none imo.

But yes I was referring to how most classes have a unique way of buffing the party War has banned, Rangers have spirits, Revs have aspects while Chrono only has alacrity they should give all classes a group utility that makes them desirable in their own way that is unique.

You realize that Alacrity does almost nothing for Thieves correct?

Group alacrity would make us more desirable in raids (why not on thrill of the crime) and even solo it benefits our utilities, which usually make a big difference in our survival (shadowstep, signet of agility) or damage (venoms). 66% faster regen is extremely good even if it doesn’t benefit our weapon skills.

Yeah those can be decent, but I guess I am of the mind set certain classes should have there niche mechanics, say keep Chrono as the only class with Alacrity and so on it would provide more distinction and allow for more diversity now it would be great if Thief was given more group Utility maybe by redesigning Venoms or some thing else.
And FYI they are nerfing alacrity so it may not even be 66% come tomorrow

So finishing the last touches on my build for raids, while looking at multiple sigils for my OH weapons I narrowed down to Air, Force , or Accuracy, accuracy being the least desirable imo. Would there be any other good contenders for this list?
