Well I still don’t see how shortbow is supposed to be such great damage on a single target. I’m doing about 3000 damage on cluster bomb explosions compared to 5500 on unload. Both can stack bleed with sigil of earth and pistol auto attacks, and I can poison with steal just the same as using choking gas, just on a single target. In the end I’m doing 50% more damage with pistols. Things just die a lot faster with pistols. I can circle strafe and things die. Shortbow requires a lot more finesse but the payout for that finesse is just lacking.
Short Bow is an AoE weapon. I can kill 6 PvE enemies at the same time, while you kill 1 or 2 with Pistol/Pistol.
If we’re talking PVE trash I can kill that number even faster with pistol whip and black powder. Only times I find myself needing to be ranged is against single powerful targets that can’t be blinded like champions, or in pvp.
Also in PvP if there are 2 or more targets, the Shorwbow is the superior weapon.

Yes, ele’s downed state is awful. Yes, thieves have the best downed state. The point is, each class has different advantages in different situations, thieves have a strong downed state. Also, while it is stronger, it is by no means far overpowered, at most it takes you 3 extra seconds.
I don’t see why people complain about mesmer downed state at all, several other classes have a stronger downed state than they do.
Depends on the situation, thief has the weakest down state when both players are downed. Guardian and Mesmer for example can easily kill a downed thief with their dowend state abilities.

You have no idea what you are talking about, in Guild Wars 2 the better player wins, it is as simple as that.
On my Thief I play and win a lot, on my Necromancer I play and win a lot, on my Warrior I play and DON’T win a lot.
What does this mean?
I am good at playing Thief and Necromancer and I suck at playing a Warrior. 90% of the time the problem is the player, not the profession.
If you think a certain profession is overpowered, make that profession and play it.

LEARN 2 PLAY THIS IS GUILDWARS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The thing is that thieves dont have to, they can push out too much damage without having any kind of skill. Anyone can try and will see results. That why they need to do something about them, especially since spvp in this game is suppose to reward skills, and going for e-sport material wont happen if they keep any profession this faceroll to play.
Hot Joinable PvP is not an indication of balance nor a valid arena to meassure succes, the fact that you and other Heartseeker whiners don’t comprehend this shows how clueless you are.
You think it is easy to get results as a Heartseeker Thief? Feel free to make one and play in TOURNEMANTS and show us how easy it is to get results.
I didn’t even bother playing Heartseeker build after a few games and seeing how weak it is.
Try necromancer then.
I play a Necromancer and it is no different to Thief. I dominate on my Thief and I dominate on my Necromancer.

Survive for 20 seconds? You are a bad PvP player who doesn’t understand how the Thief and Mesmer downed skills work, if you did you would be able to kill a downed Thief and Mesmer in less than 10 seconds depending on your build.
This entire post… wreaks of thief.
So, for an elementalist, a free stomp. 2 seconds.
But if I understand how thief and mesmer abilities work, I might have a chance at taking them out in 10 seconds? Is this a troll post?
Not a single person in this thread has mentioned anything to the effect of: Here’s why its balanced ______. All I see is one thief after another pop in saying how possible it is to down them.
I want to hear the rationalization for “under 10 seconds” vs. a free 2 second no stability single person stomp being equal.
First of all, when you make a post insulting and whining you should not expect people to give you advice and arguments for their posts, because you don’t do it and don’t deserve it. However, I will make an exception.
1. The fact that the Elementalist doesn’t have an interrupt is a problem of the Elementalist profession and has nothing to do with Thief and Mesmer downed state and it should be adressed by Arenanet.
2. The Thief and Mesmer are easy to down, this is how:
[Thief is downed]
- If you have a charge/teleport ability try to stomp him, he will port away. Charge/Teleport to him, stomp him. His smokebomb won’t be up.
- If you are going to be crippled and can’t move fast, spam damage moves. When he ports get to him and continue damaging him, when he smokebombs and enters stealth keep dropping AoE attacks and auto attacking, he dies.
[Mesmer is downed]
- Stomp mesmer, he/she cloaks and creates a clone. Spam auto attack asap as this happens, when they appear you can notice from the damage to health bar ratio of the target if it is a clone or not. You can also look at the flashing marks above their head to identify which one is the real mesmer. Stomp.
These methods give you a guaranteed kill on them in less than 10 sec.
If there are other players near to support their team mates, then that is another story.

I agree.
I don’t mind having cooldowns or initiative, I love the Thief archetype and will always enjoy playing one. Does it have Shadowstep? Does it have awesome medium/leather armor? Does it have fast and agile abilities? SIGN ME UP

[Suggestion] Improving Raid on Capricorn and making it more fun for PvP Players!
in PvP
Posted by: Blazer Hellsing.9184
Hello,
Fellow PvP players and Arenanet game developers! I usually don’t make Suggestion threads this fast after a game is released, but I do think I have enough experience with Raid on the Capricorn to make a valid statement.
I think that most PvP players don’t enjoy the map Raid on the Capricorn, because PvE elements have too much influence on the PvP game. A PvP game is fun when there is no PvE in it. If there are PvE elements in the PvP game, then the effects should be minimal and not too dominant. Good examples are Legacy of the Foefire and Forest of Niflhel!
[Problem]
The problem with Raid on the Capricorn are the Sharks, they are too powerful. If the enemy team is controlling the ruins 1 player can take down 3 players with the help of Sharks and a defensive build. As a result of this I usually camp ruins all the game and 90% of the time this results in a win. This is not fun for me, I can also say that this is not fun for my opponents… I have been in their shoes! When an enemy controls the ruins, getting in the water is a nightmare. This is such a shame, since the underwater combat could be really fun and cool in this map.
[Suggestion]
Remove the sharks, improve the Pirate Ship! Add cannons to the Pirate Ship which can be used to attack the Dock and the Beach.
[Results]
1. This will make the underwater combat near ruins much more depended on players. Raid on the Capricorn is the only map which features large possibility of Underwater combat, so it should allow players to have decent Underwater combat without the interference of overpowered PvE sharks.
2. The Pirate Ship will become a much more important aspect in the map, the cannons will provide advantage to the team controlling them. This will make the statement of one of the Arenanet employees become a reality: “Players will fight on a massive Pirate Ship”. Currently this is not the case, with this change? Most definitely!
3. The map type ratio will be balanced. Currently we have 1 map which has no PvE elements in it: Battle of Khylo and 3 maps which have PvE elements in them: Legacy of the Foefire, Forest of Nilfhel and Raid on the Capricorn. This change will make the ratio 2:2 instead of 1:3 and provide a balanced rate for players who prefer one type over the other (No PvE / PvE elements in a PvP game).
Thanks for reading, looking forward to the opinions of people.

Don’t think GW2 can make it as an E-Sport.
Alts: Warrior, Necromancer, Mesmer, Elementalist (bunker)
You are a bad PvP player and all you do is complain and claim “unbalance” based on hot joinable SPvP matches! Luckily Arenanet doesn’t take you serious. Go make a a Heartseeker Thief if you think they are over the top, enjoy being a melee glass cannon.
Tournemany PvP is a better indication for balance when teams are organized and have builds that support each other.

Thats actually the only thing about the Thief i really, really hate. Freaking everything one shots me in dungeons.
A random hit from somewhere, and I’m flat on mykitten while pretty much all other professions (except Elementalist, who is focused on range on the other hand) loose 1/3 – 1/2 of their health, and quickly heal up again.
I don’t really consider melee as an option in dungeons for Thief atm, except in some rare situations with only 1 enemy, where you should be able to see attacks coming for dodges.
But if there are 3-5 enemies who will oneshot you, it’s kind of difficult to stay alive while contributing to the team.
Well said, as a Ranged Thief you are a lot more effective in dungeons.
Alts: Warrior, Necromancer, Mesmer, Elementalist (bunker)
Dungeons as a Thief require more awareness and better dodging and evading than other professions. My Thief got “1-shotted” quite often in AC explorable mode untill I pulled together and understood the encounters better, then it was reasonable but still annoying to die in 1 hit…
Alts: Warrior, Necromancer, Mesmer, Elementalist (bunker)
Pistol/Pistol is a very weak weapon set. Body Shot is slow, Unload damage is low and there is no “retreat” or “cripple” ability to keep you at ranged.

I use Leaping Death Blossom a lot in my favourite build: Blood Storm. This ability is amazing
Alts: Warrior, Necromancer, Mesmer, Elementalist (bunker)
I don’t like this at all, why would you want to make them viable? Surely having 3 abilities instead of 1 is a better choice.
The light skills are just “fillers” till you get an off hand weapon.

I like Steal
Alts: Warrior, Necromancer, Mesmer, Elementalist (bunker)
S/D would be perfectly fine if they fixed the pathing on skill 3. As it is right now it is completely unreliable. The other skills are fine.
I agree with this, the biggest problem is the speed and pathing of Flanking Strike which just misses to often.
I also think Cloak and Dagger should be reworked, but that is another subject.
Alts: Warrior, Necromancer, Mesmer, Elementalist (bunker)
It was an adjustment, not a nerf. A nerf would be to the damage numbers. <—- to clarify for those who didn’t read the OP.
Also, I’m glad they went this route rather than the numbers. Numbers are more difficult to adjust.
I disagree, A nerf reduces the power of an ability. The power of Heartseeker was reduced, this was a nerf.

Game exploits posted on a very bad and borderline file forum like guru, not surprised.
Alts: Warrior, Necromancer, Mesmer, Elementalist (bunker)
I don’t think that this “nerf” is that much of a big deal, you can engage your opponent from ranged first to lower their Health and then switch and take them down when they are below 50%.
Heartseeker builds are weak and fragile, I don’t like them and this nerf doesn’t affect me that much.
Alts: Warrior, Necromancer, Mesmer, Elementalist (bunker)
I don’t like Flanking Strike in PvP. In PvP all units are very mobile and there is a lot of dodging and teleportation. Flanking Strike is a slow and stable attack which easily misses the target just because the target is running…
Alts: Warrior, Necromancer, Mesmer, Elementalist (bunker)
I agree that it can use improvement, but calling it “useless” is taking it to far.
An 1 sec cast time or even instant cast would make the ability much more desirable.

Why should I play Pistol/Pistol? That weapon setup is weak. Body Shot cast time is slow and Unload damage is low.
Very disappointing, because when it comes to aesthetics I like Pistol/Pistol a lot.

What nerf? Did I miss something?
Regardless, Heartseeker build was weak and fragile and this “nerf” that people are talking about doesn’t affect my Thief much.
