Depends on what build you are running and what build they are running. Eg terrormancer is very effective at shutting down med guardian as he has no stability.
completely wrong, medi guard is one of the very very few specs that can beat a terrormancer 1v1
Fear Fear Fear …more fear if your still alive… your dead… yeah great counter. Unless the guy is really bad I don’t see it happening. And yeah I’ve killed a few terrormancers but they were not great players. And if I was running shout build vs them it would be a big stalemate as they have about 40-50k health to burn through.

I’ve switched from Carrion to Berserker to Knight’s how ever I please with little to no issues. Guardians ARE one of the most balanced class in the game. Maybe not better in terms of one build owning all, like the war or engi, but we definitely have more build diversities.Be interested in your observations. Was trying out some different gear set ups over the weekend and I really find the damage weak with everything except Beserker. I had some luck with Knights but only vs squishy targets.
try a regular 2 1 6 1 4 medi build and if youre still losing to ANY terror mancers then you suck.
Long fights with combo field, finishers, group support and class sinergy are much for fun than watch enemys that drop in less than 10s to a thief or shatter mesmer.
Imo, it’s more like opposite. Long fights = stale match. It just drags on and on, no big plays, no big moves, nothing changes. Plus it’s in general more primitive and easier to execute tactic, to bunker up here and there and get your long, stale fights, doesn’t require that much coordination as (i.e.) mesmer and thief do.
Long fights require more skilled play for longer periods of time, you have to constantly be making good decisions for the duration or you’re going to lose. It also gives a lot of time for counterplay, a concept that GW2 has forgotten. That makes fights fun for a lot of people. I think we can both agree that SPvP is by no means a success, the question is why? I think it’s purely because the style of combat is simply not appealing. Unless you bunker up, run cheese, or are super skilled, you die in seconds; it isn’t fun. While I will say it does take certain skills to play GW2 at high level, it’s definitely heavily based on fast reaction time. The problem is that fast reaction based combat cuts out a big portion of players and makes seeing “the big moves” very hard.
I agree 100% with you. The game should walk towards longer fights and make people think more in combos and when to use the skills. Not just whoever clicks faster win, because most classes have 1 or 2 tricks and 90% of the playerbase runs the same builds. If we had +build variety would be hard to predict what is coming from the enemy player. The way it is now we already know their entire build and traits just by looking at the class and weapon. Hambow war, shater mesmer, pasive fear necros, cleric shout guard, celestial ele, celestial 2kit engi,etc.. you look at them and already know everything they can do and how your class should react. The fight is decided by who clicks faster not how creative people are using combos and chainig skills. In other mmos they avoid this by not making the skills bound to the weapons. So you dont know what is coming from the enemy.

No, macros is the term. Complex combos requiring specific timing programed into 1 key. It’s more common than you think and virtually undetectable.
I know several eles who do the “1 shot” combo on scepter and I guarantee you they aren’t using macros. (the combo that does like 10+ skills in <.5 seconds)
i agree guardian needs less reliance on long cd’s in order to be viable in competitive pvp. when I play my engi its ridiculous how I can kite around LoSing 2/3 players for 5 minutes, all but one leave, I come back and beat him 1v1 because I have no cd’s and can heal to full in 20s. On guardian that would never even be close to possible because 1) I’d die while outnumbered within 10s due to no disengage; 2) I’d lose the 1v1 afterwards because I’d have no cds

Engi A (Good 1v1s, decent team fight, kinda squishy but takes out guardians)
Warrior B (Good cc, not very good 1v1 anymore)
Guard C (Can’t 1v1 at all, focused too quickly in team fights, pretty useless)
Mesmer B- (Good utility, bad 1v1, focused much too easily)
Necro A+ (Wins ALL 1v1, wins ALL 2v2, good utility, replaces mesmer, not focused easily)
Thief B+ (Great mobility, good 1v1, good spike, but not on par with other top classes)
Ranger B (new condi ranger build is interesting, wins a lot of 1v1 but thats it)

7. Hard as hell to focus down in team fights. Literally attacking the bunker guardian first is preferable.

9. Water glyph elite: knocks down enemies, heals for 8k and is on a 15s cd lolwut?
10. Has AoE and Mist for stomps
11. Downed state vapor form can go through portals (icing on the cake) and remove all conditions (INCLUDING POISON!) and is the only class you most likely cannot stomp on first attempt!

NA always 1-2 patches behind eu, nothing to add to that, I doubt they can beat tcg at WTS and I think thats the opinion of most eu/na top players.

And the “meta” each region has its own and now we’ll see which one is better
Yeah thats the thing, I think if I ask every eu team they will say TCG will win and if I ask every NA Team only half will say Abjured will win. Obviously its impossible to say for sure, since the region barrier didn’t let those 2 teams meet, but in the past I had the feeling that many top NA players felt that EU is stronger, while almost no EU players felt that way about NA, maybe its different now with Abjured being at the top (since they dominated the other NA Teams so hard, it might have cause others to think they are better than TCG).
actually nearly no top NA players think TCG will win. furthermore, the vast majority of top NA players think it will be a rofl stomp (we’re talking 500-200 3x in a row)

what backpack said about OE and nos killing guardians is completely true. the way the focus me down on bunker guardian is something no mesmer/thief will never even come CLOSE to achieving.

Thaddeus, Skovex, Phantaram, they all seem to basically be at the same level of elementalist as someone who has played it for a month. Now, I don’t generally see better eles because the class is so easy to play and offers no incentive to get better, but hey, that’s what this game is about now. #celewars2 for the next 6 months until feature patch 3.

Yeah as Elxdark said Abjured is on a completely different level than any other team atm, and that includes TCG. Tbh TCG is the the best at guard/thief/mesmer comp, but that comp is just too weak compared to stacking eles and engis and using a necro to dominate every 1v1. They even managed to get a thief in there for high mobility. Like I dont know how to beat these guys lol.

why do you think youve imrpoved so much, what changed
pros: definitely a very devoted person. comes up with strategies on his own and knows what he should be doing. always looking to improve. good with kiting in team fights (honestly isnt downed very much for a mesmer). looks for little things that can improve mesmer even though its not meta.
cons: loves to argue… his damage is really subpar imo, a lot of the time we couldn’t feel his presence. his portals aren’t as good as they could be. not strong in 1v1’s (dont expect him to consistently beat a cele engi or ele)
overall he’s probably top 10 mesmer in NA at least…

I like how none of the engineers replying to this thread do anything to contradict what i said about the broken/stupid mechanics in my OP. Thanks for proving my point guys.
Their arguments can be summed up in basically 2 sentences: " Oh but condi necros can beat us!!! So we must not be overpowered and Incendiary powder must be a good mechanic!!!"
That’s because it’s a dead horse. And unhelpful. Yep, A.I, super insta procs, and hard to avoid mechanics are very capitalized on, in PvP. Too bad none of those categories are Engineer specific. That’s why it’s irrelevant to this thread. Everyone uses instant damage procs and attacks that are not able to be reactively avoided. Necro, Mesmer, Thief, Engineer, Warrior, Ranger, Ele.. and.. RIP Guardian.

turrets need to be affected by condi and crit dmg
all AI, not just turrets should be affected by master stats, if you build full tank your AI may be tank but does 0 dmg
celestial/might stacking needs to go from pvpMajorly twisting my words. Engineers are the best target in team fights, at top end. Better then anything. Besides.. Eura’s power ranger….? This is because they’re quite rush-able and very susceptible immobilize and CC. Just to spell this out, with no way to pop conditions off, or very good stunbreaks, and no teleports, that makes a candidate for focus.
hahaha 3s block on 20s (16s traited) cd and kitten stealth and a 3s invuln and a 8k+ heal on a 20s cd and tons of spam damage while running away.
yeah totallyyyyy easiest target. tbh after playing medi guard and bunker guard for forever in q’s and then rolling engi for a few, I was SO surprised how EASY it was to stay alive just by using blocks off cd and kiting like a motherkittener with perma swiftness.

A pretty basic Altruistic Healing build. I guess the major chance to the standard is that I prefer the Shield. It doesn’t do a lot of damage but can take quite a beating and helps your allies kill someone. I mostly do point-defense on my own, so this is perfect.
only point in running the offhand on a bunker is for the free stomp w/ focus. you might as well run hammer for more direct CC and damage if you want to “help allies kill someone”
