58 points with 65 wins, 75 loses. That’s ~0.43 points per game.Second place:
58 points with 63 wins, 51 loses. That’s ~.51 points per game.That .43 vs .51 is the difference between narrower losses, and winning against tougher opponents. That’s where the skill comes in.
Yes, someone with .5 points per game will be higher than other players with .5 points per game the more they play, but someone with a higher point per game stat will need fewer games to get the same number of points.

Yes number of games also matters. We want the players that play more to be higher on the ladder than similarly skilled players who play less. We also want less skilled players to have a chance as well.
so basically the more you play the higher your rank is completely true
so from what i gather, new ladder is simply about grinding points. so…… most games played = rank 1
More games mean more opportunity for points, but look at the data. There are plenty of players with fewer wins that are higher. There are also players with fewer loses that aren’t as high.
There are people with really high win/loss rations who aren’t even doing as well with 50/50 ratio.
It’s who you play, and how close you come to winning if you lose.
so why am I rank 5X when Im 30-1 and have let 3 teams total score over 100 points?

It’s so depressing to look at, and ArenaNet has stated that win/loss is not what determines your skill, since you can easily be on a team fully expected to lose the match.
Especially if you queue as a solo player.

GvG has much more teamplay and has much more discussion going on with optimal team comps and gears than spvp has in this game.
It’s a total different ‘’game mode’’ compared to spvp and has other ways of skill than just bunkering and cheesing 15 minutes through a game.It’s seriously much different than spamming blast skills or running after a ’’commander’’.
sPvP seriously can learn something teamplay wise from GvG’s in many 4v4/5v5 team fights and comps.
You just can’t clearly see skill if you have no interest in how and what people do and because there is no spectate mode. ’’roflmao’’
unfortunately there is no doubt that on average spvp players are better than gvg players.. and there is no reason why spvp players would ever need to learn from a 15v15+ fight as that kind of fight doesnt even come close to occurring

Brandon mains a necro uber. He is well aware of what a necro can and cannot do. The only classes I have ever been able to do what your saying is against a theif and a mesmer and it’s alot harder to pull off than simply click and 3 seconds later they are dead and that would be a full glass cannon dhuumfire terror necro and even then it takes longer than 3 seconds.
That fresh air ele burst your talking about is almost impossible to hit someone with. Also the burning thing your talking about with eles is fire grab but thats on dagger offhand and while I have seen people running sc/d most of the time it’s s/f.

GS 5: Use this one, and then quickly jump while in animation, it’ll make you get a angle above the usual (Higher up). Thus can help ignore AI minions, other players, clones etc… when trying to pull.
GS 3: As booms wrote above, it is really a handy one. It’ll also allows you to ignore some falling damage at some points (unless the falling distance is too great).

I understand that there might not be anyone close to our skill level on at a time.. however I do believe that there has to be 1 or 2 and probably more teams that can at least put a few points on the board. I wouldnt mind a 5minute q for that. After all, the 30s queue + 5mins to get to 500-0 the other team is just as enjoyable as killing golems in hotm.

Bah! who cares. It’s still a very lame comp nonetheless with two professions that are leaps and bounds way beyond any other one. I don’t care about the EU vs NA crap, but NA happens to always bring ‘lame’ to the table (double hambow, double spirit ranger, double ele, double engi…), I would be rooting for NA if it was the other way around. But more than NA, I should be speaking about the specific teams in this case, generalizations are not good, I know.
With that said, a ‘contratulations’ is in place, they brought us by far the most entertaining matches in a tournament yet.

You can avoid the aftercast that roots you by stowing weapon without losing any damage.

I’ve been wanting to make a meditation guardian guide, but a full guide is too much of a hassle.. and the build itself is rather easy to play. So, I’m going to make a list full of cool things you can do with medi guards or things that most people don’t know!
Sword AA #3:
Is a projectile. This can be reflected back into you if reflects are up.
Sword 2: Can teleport through LoS. You can teleport up to clocktower on both sides and from underneath using this. You can also teleport to sides on Temple with it.
Sword 3:
Projectiles it shoots if reflected will still hit you.
If you cancel this skill as soon as the yellow bar is finished, the block remains. This lets you disengage or use another skill or even get a stomp vs warr or engi.
GS 2:
Can do more damage if you stand in the middle of the enemy model.
GS 3:
Can get a larger jump if you jump and leap at the same time, similar to dodge jumping. You can get to the platform at Keep with this as well as jump from Henge point to off point ledges. Also gets you into courtyard spawn lol..
Can cancel the after cast that slows you down with wep swap, and also use flashing blade mid air for a very quick 1200 range gap closer.
Similar to burning speed, you can do a short leap of faith by moving your camera so that you are looking directly down at yourself, walk backwards (press S), and use leap of faith. This is good for landing LoF on a downed body in stealth.
GS5:
Tracks in stealth.
Focus 5:
Does not get hit while casting Renewed Focus.
Nearest Enemy Button
This button ignores LoS. Thus, you can get a target to someone who’s on a point (like clocktower) that you cant see, and instantly teleport to them. This is INSANELY helpful for meditation guardians and is pretty much required.
Also I’m always looking for new things to learn! Please comment any other cool things you’ve found you can do with s/f GS medi guards!

I had a very high MMR, and I rarely played with or agaisnt bad players….

Just took a look at your account. Your profession MMRs are taking a while to catch up to your account MMR. Not my fault its so dang high. :P

If you can queue from anywhere, what happens when the match is ready while someone is loading, in a cutscene, or talking to a scout? I doubt people want the match-ready UI to stay up for 90+ seconds while the slowest player loads and maybe decides to accept. We also can’t just give dishonor to people who miss the queue because they are loading, or watching a personal story cut scene as that seems unfair. These problems led us to the compromise we have now, but we are open to other options!
at least let us go to custom arenas. like why do we have to afk in hotm when we could be practicing our jumping on maps or dueling or 2v2s etc..

Because they lose 2v1s and double cap points and rotate into 3v1’s and solo bosses while we’re losing fights.
still not fixed. It worked for me for 20 minutes after the hotfix yesterday and hasnt worked since or before that. I can accept invites from party members but can’t soloq or q our team.
The best 5v5 DM builds are all zerk builds.
There isn’t enough toughness, vitality, armor to stop 5 zerk players from destroying you.

Found a missing ‘+ 1’ (literally) in the matchmaking code. Will get this fixed soon.
In the mean time, it doesn’t factor in 2 of the same profession, only 3+.

I’m really curious as to how you guys are figuring out if the other team is a pre-made. We don’t tell you, and looking at the data there are very few party rosters compared to solo.
Is it just match quality being bad? Are you just recognizing player names?

I was top 100 in both teamq and soloq prior to this patch. Yet today I repeatedly am getting rank 10’s or lower on my team that get 1v3’d by the enemy team. Like what is wrong with these people? And how am I getting matched up with them? I thought this match making system made it so I dont paly with people who are lightyears below my level?

It really seems weird, as this “pre-buffing” phase was deemed important and fairplay enough – that if rubberbanding hapened they would restart pvp tournaments.
I know this was how ESL handeld it but they never showed to against it.
on the other hand i really hope that now the ZERO LIFEFORCE issue will get adressed on necro
- 10-20-30% LF on respawn
- out of combat regen to 20%
- out of combat regen AND degen to always 50% , makes min/max scenrios and necro easier to balance but would need adjusing LF size down a bit
- basically anything
just keep it the same except start at 20% to make it fair..
this is like when they made steal on thief completely not work LMAO…
tested in my custom arena and confirmed… cannot change weapons or skills during the countdown.

Thief lacks in build diversity but a guardian certainly does not. The only builds I can think of that are pretty terrible on guardian are signet and spirit build.
No it doesn’t. What thief lacks, is thief players willing to play anything outside of stealth spam builds. Similarly Necro has a fair bit of diversity. You simply claim they do not. (See, I can claim my opinion as if it were fact, as easy as you can)
I can agree that some of the necromancers could use both trait line changes (changing some traits from one line to another), as well as trait changes. Then again, this can be said for every profession.
As I see it, the problem of build diversity is as much the players as anything else. As for example. Go to individual professional sub forums. When players start a new profession, they go to its corresponding sub forum, and ask for the meta builds. Instead of playing and experimenting with the profession to see what they find fun or what works for them. We have seen entire “metas” change between updates, with literally no changes added in game, simply because 2 high end PvP teams made a change. One team lost a player, and the other changed a build to adjust for the changed play in the first team. Viola, all of the sudden we had two build that were not “meta” that then were. The second problem, is that everyone wants to point fingers to demand changes to what would work for their build, regardless of what is fair, balanced, or who they screw over. Again, this is a player problem. Then conflicting opinions bash the devs and make post attacking Anet for what ever choice they do make.
No one is simply going to run a build that isn’t effective. When you claim there is build diversity, you don’t seem to understand that using an ineffective build is useless and leads to the demise of you and your team in tpvp. There is a reason why so many top tier teams do NOT run necromancer in there team composition. Now you’re going to name some teams that run necromancer and claim that I base my builds and base the skill level of a build off of high tier play, when that is simply not the case. It is just proof that fully backs my argument.

I’d doubt it, the majority of people think Guard is “fine”. However, the longer you play the class, the more you see its shortcomings and limitations. When most people think of Guard, first thing that comes to mind is support bunker.
Sure, bunker Guard is fine, however it’s not needed anymore and can easily be replaced by other classes such as an ele. This is because these classes can fulfill the Guard’s role and even surpass them in many other ways, such as damage.
When it comes to med Guard it’s even worse. There is absolutely no reason to even bring a med Guard over another zerker class. Very limited mobility (FB, JI, and LoF) not even going to mention MI because it’s still garbage. Extremely predictable and easy to read burst (wish more classes where like that, but that’s a different story). Also it’s a profession that primarily focuses on melee combat, yet it lacks the soft CCs, and you have to use sigils and runes to try and make up for it. There hasn’t been one major champion winner that had a dps Guard on the team, and that alone speaks volume about its state.
So yes technically Guard is “fine”, however it’s pretty outclassed in the current meta. Sorry for the rant, it’s just frustrating to see.
No Med guard is v strong vs a lot of matchups. Its just Ele rly, too much spam, hits too hard, perma protection. No real cooldowns to avoid minus a knockdown which is easy and isn’t a game changer.
I really wouldn’t go as far to as to say “a lot.” War, thief, and mesmer are the only match ups that are heavily in favor of Guard. An ele and condi ranger are almost guaranteed to beat a med Guard. Engi also has a slight edge, and with Necro it can go either way depending on the build.
Yes, med Guards are viable. However, there are reasons why you don’t see many of them being used in top tier matches. Nevertheless, med Guard is in a weird spot, In lower and average tier matches they perform quite well and even great depending on the player. However, the higher you go, the less useful they become. Which leads to the problem of buffing them. If you buff them to make them more viable in high tier matches, they then become insanely OP for everyone else.
As much as I hate it, this is a case of leaving well enough alone.
I know youre a little out of hte loop on medi guard cuz you took a break, but Ive found there are very little problems vs (condi) ranger and necro. The only tough matchups are engi and ele… winning vs engi is possible if you outplay them; however as Ive said before winning vs a competent ele is practically impossible without hammer.

tbh a fix on sword auto 3, a 1s chill on flashing blade, and a faster cast time OR movement on zealots defense would fix so much of our problems..
however to be completely honest, the problem is that we are SO dependent on long cds. sure classes HAVE long cds… but guardians NEED them to win a fight. I feel like there should be a game changing GM trait in virtues that will make us less reliant on cds.. for example by reducing the cds on virtues significantly and buffing them (like sleight of hand)
