Most of the regulars I see on the server are logging off to go out, play other games or being bored in PvE/SPvP so I don’t picture very much activity happening on the map. Accurate or are there some decent skirmishes smaller scale fights going on?

Um, no. A single warrior + MAYBE a buddy on his guard or 1-2 randoms vs 25-30 people doesn’t really have the ability to “badge farm” them. Mostly it’s about seeing if I can just get 1 or 2 down in the 3 seconds it takes for them to vaporize my body.

So I got an Eir’s longbow as a random drop (yay!) and it sure beats the hell out of the healing rare bow I had before. I always dabbled around with trying to make a longbow warrior work, but had limited success. I came to my senses a while back and realized gearing/specc’ing for conditions as a warrior is stupid cause we lack the tools needed to make it work like other classes (engi/necro/ranger condi bomb dumps on people) and so I need your help.

Have any of you roamers (solo or SMALL groups, 5 or less) made your longbow warrior work? If so, what build/gearing did you use? How did you find the sustainability to pull off what the roamer thieves / eles do so effortlessly? Is that even possible? I’ve played warrior for a while but for the sake of discussion and theorycrafting pretend I installed the game yesterday and explain your experiences as a longbow + X warrior.

(For reference I’m currently running P/V/T armor, ruby orbs, Emerald Acc’s + zerker jewels, guild p/v/t backpack + zerker jewel. Trying 10/30/0/10/20 out with GS/Longbow…)

Besides, I’m taking a break since Kaineg’s got spawncamping zergballs in just about every BL right now so there’s not much point in just continuing to repair when you only make maybe a gold a day doing wuvwuv anyways.

Actually yes. I held off for a while but once I gave in an installed it I saw why my guild left for PS2. Totally fun, and in true FPS fashion a group of 4-5 coordinated guys can take out massive numbers of people.

Also subbed for the ESO beta, crossing my fingers I get a response to get in.

Um… as a warrior, if you hit 20% hp a single burst attack from a thief/ele/guard/mes/necro/engi/ranger/warrior will drop that to 0% before your regen ticks UNLESS you hit endure pain and are at 0 conditions and nobody puts a condition on you.

Turn the sound quality all the way down.
Fixed it for me at least.
Just some weird part of the game that doesn’t make sense.

Hmm, think we can find a more balanced group to fight so it’s actually fun?
Well where would we find them? Let’s try CDBL, maybe the blue zergball won’t be there for a few minutes.

I mean what good does it do to go to EB or the KBL where you know the ball will be rolling in force if you’re looking for an actual fight? I saw a few CD in our YBBL this morning and we had a nice 3-5 fight vs them. THAT was fun. Then a blue zergball appeared and wiped all of us out together, THAT was funny (seeing both yb and cd corpses lying on the ground together under the zergballs trampling mass), but not nearly as fun.

On that note, maaaaybe it’s a good day to do something else. Northern spawn of ybbl now has 36 Kaineg zerballers camping it so…. Planetside 2 anyone?

I think first they need to fix the pathfinding issues with warrior movement skills and bring up the other weapons, because really only the gs and greathammer have good weapon skills. Then they can look at buffing the warriors traits and utilities and stuff.

While what you say about the weapons is true, the warrior traits/utilities are still pretty craptastic overall. There’s a reason that the exact same few traits are picked and only a small divergence of utility choices. Instead of being in a position where warriors think “Ohh, do I pick this or THAT… man, tough choice” the choice is more like “omg, I have to pick between this or that? ew… guess I’ll take this one, it sucks the least”. Except for forceful greatsword. THAT is a good trait.

Well it doesn’t exactly get you ‘fights’. It gets you a huge zergball that steamrolls over your small group like an avalanche crashing down on a couple guys skiing.

Anyways, snippet from this morning. Looks like we may be in for a repeat after the oceanic crew handed the map over to blue, now that control is theirs the zergballs are free to start the spawn camping. Le sigh. Of course I only post spawncamping pics because I refuse to stop TRYING to fight, at least until I run out of repair money (because PvE isn’t enjoyable in the least except to get gear for a fresh 80).

And the fighting was so fun and close last night before the server crash rolled me off and decided it was naptime. Ah well another week of seeing how that super super late night coverage decides things. Blah

Anyways, good fights to both Kain and CD before that though last night. Was having a blast. /wave to the guardian and warrior 2 man we fought outside the bay last night at one point (one was in that firey armor). We were the other guardian and warrior combo and quite enjoyed the mirror match duel we had outside that northern gate.

Yak’s Bend – despite being crushed by Maguuma the previous match-up since they clearly do not belong in T4, we still have several organized WvW guilds that have not jumped ship. In fact, we used the entire week to organize karma trains to encourage the lower levels and other folks who only PvE to join for some easy, stress free farm. Also serves well to train others.

We have a ton of people in the mumble channel and on prime times can field over 100 in the channel.

You can also join in on our mumble (details on website as listed above) and just ask around in any of the borderland channels.

On a side note,

The one thing that amazes me is that despite having several fairly large guilds on the server, there is no hostility or competition. Everyone works together as if we were one huge guild.

It’s not that they don’t put any effort into those builds. It’s that you rarely see any of those builds in a video played by the professionals..especially warrior condition builds. We don’t see many of those at all so much for variety of being viable in pvp without being carried. ya dig?

I hear ya, Karma. I love YB, but honestly as much as we’d welcome some more dedicated W3 players I’d personally rather see a server that got screwed by the system get some love and aid instead in order to help promote more fun matches.

My friends and I have said as well that if we were ever to leave YB for whatever reason it would have to be to a smaller w3 pop server that could use some more dedicated PvPers. Joining a queued zergserver? We’d rather just quit playing the game than do that. I mean ew, just ew.

Thieves are annoying. They have stupid mechanics, and have an even lower skillcap than most MMO’s have given the invisibility ganker class (which is saying a lot because in almost every MMO the invisibility ganker class is always skilless ganker poop).

However in TOURNEYS they are not OP at all.
In SPvP sure because it’s an invisibility button spammy burst ganker class with built in defense abilities that other classes actually have to gear/spec for, while sacrificing damage. In WvW of course they’re OP because with culling and proper timing the invisibility spamming poop is exacerbated to the nth degree which means most players have 1 second out of 7 to deal enough CC/burst to kill the thief before he’s invisible again, healing/cleansing/initiative regening because of it and about to crit you for another 5-7k.

But in tourneys? Not OP, just annoying and stupidly designed.

Because the majority of players really could care less about the ‘competitive matches’ in tourney’s. For a few reasons, but one of the big ones:

This is conquest, not deathmatch.

The majority of players really just don’t seem to give a flying kitten about conquest as it’s a completely boring game mode. Player vs Circle FTL. So exciting to watch, that’s why stream viewer numbers are so high too.

Seriously, only the smallest group of players all sitting in a tiny circle running tourneys to farm pugs and face each other constantly in R3 give a poop about player vs circle while marveling at their own magnificence. It’s dull.

I’m actually not trying to be a jerk, it probably comes off that way I’m sure, I’m just trying to be blunt.

Thiefs may well be the strongest wvwvw class.

Well thief and d/d ele. Thief really just because invisibility is stupid, and because of culling issues far more stupid than it normally is with a good thief only appearing on-screen for the enemy 10% of the fight.

Off-topic rant:
What is starting to annoy me however is every one of these warrior vids I see is a glass cannon spec, and succeeding in fights. Surviving somehow because absolutely every opponent seems to have no combat abilities on their hotbars or the ability to target the warriors. Yet every time I get in a fight in SPvP or WvW it’s a constant uphill battle of focused target condi + burst dumps on my warrior and 3-7 people focus firing and support stomping which leads to an average uptime of maybe 10 seconds while having to gear and spec defensively or else the focus fire drops the war in 4 seconds (3 for endure pain and 1 to take 40k damage from a coordinated group).

Seriously, what servers do all these players exist on where 28 run from a whirling warrior and are unable to even all press 1 on him at the same time in order to deal 30k damage and drop him in 1 second?

Yes indeed.
I wanted a melee skirmisher that actually had proper sustainability and tools for in your face combat.
I dropped my war for a while and picked up Ranger and as soon as I got some SPvP experience under my belt started making my way to 80 in WvW. I LOVE my ranger! He’s the warrior I always wished I would’ve had. Sword/Dagger + Greatsword, Wolf+Drakehound. It’s quite possibly the most rewarding time I’ve had as a melee toon yet. The skillcap is high, the reward is high and 1v2-3 is potentially viable.

CC, Regen/sustain, burst setups, team support, mobility. It’s got it all.

Best thing is that for sieges I don’t have to respec, just throw on my longbow and lay down some pain (I run a major emphasis on Power/Toughness, with a nice balance of prec/vit/critdamage). On demand quickness stomps are freaking awesome too, along with the aoe CC for quickness revives on fallen teammates as well.

I hated the pets at first, and they’re still buggy and die far too easily in WvW, but they do provide a nice functionality with the knockdowns, aoe fear and aoe immobilize. The class might need some work, yes but overall it rocks hardcore potential.

I think the aoe damage should go up as well.

AOE limited to 5 promotes zergballs. It doesn’t enable smaller groups using terrain, better skill and coordination to stall/take out larger forces very well. Did you see 300? Or read the story of the greek forces holding off the persian hordes when you were in school? That’s the stuff legend is made of. Zergballs rolling over people is blah. But giving the ability for that coordinated group of 5-10 guys the tools needed to outplay the zergballers and punish them for bad plays, that’s just skill-promoting game design.

Of course this does mean that AoE damage needs to be in check so it’s never a better option vs a single target spell in terms of pure damage output (obviously there are times where it’ll be situationally better coughstealthbullkittencough)
