All sorts of companies monitor transaction and compile data. I don’t see why they couldn’t find a way to subdivide the servers up to see how much profit is being generated on each server by the BLT.

I think it would be really cool if Arenanet kept track of how much money the black lion trading company acquires from listing fees on each server. Then we could have server rewards programmed into that server specifically for achievements.

Example: When listing fee profit for the BLT company reaches 1,000,000,000 then a massive statue is built of something somewhere in Lions Arch or somewhere else. Heck we could even allow the players to decide what they want their server’s reward to me (something meaningful and lasting, not buffs!!!).

This could be a way for servers to compete with each other because essentially the server with the most listing fee profit for the BLTC is the server with the most booming economy. I think it could make the game fun in an economic warfare kind of way

Because by this time in GW1’s lifetime, the base game had a couple permanent endgame areas that is being played up to this day, Factions was already released and Nightfall was on it’s way.

People are negative because GW2’s content so far is not on par.

Objectively. (that’s right I pulled that card out)

The problem with this logic is, even at the time, additional campaigns/expansions for guildwars 1 were very easy to make in comparison to potential expansion for gw2. You seriously think a company should be able to make expansions to an open world game that is actually an MMO at the same rate that they made additional content for a game that was essentially small multiplayer online? If Guildwars 1 was open world like World of Warcraft was, I GUARANTEE you that we would have never had additional content that fast with gw1. We would probably be close to getting EOTN or Nightfall at this point. Those games are totally incomparable.

I’m so sick of people complaining. If Anet didn’t release any new content from here on out I still love the story, gameplay, art stycle, and fluid fighting style of this game more than any other mmo I’ve ever played (quite a lot of them). I love everything new that they add to the story. I like Scarlet. I like everything about this game except for the lack of owning cities as a guild/alliance/server (from Factions) and competing with other guilds/alliances/servers over those territory. People are so freaking negative. It’s like they think this game is junk, it’s NOT AT ALL! I loved Gw1, I love Gw2, and I love the living story! I feel bad for people who are so negative, how do you people EVER enjoy games? Sweet Karka shell this is frustrating to me how high horse gamers are.

Anet would have to divide zones up into sub zones based on progression like Blizzard did with WoW when Lich King came out. I wasn’t a fan of that in terms of organizing parties with people and in terms of playing with random people in general, but it could be nice in order to allow everyone to complete the main story but also allow for up to date players to continue.

The problem with this theory is that it relies on the ELder Dragons being concious of the decisions they make. It’s pretty clear the guildwars books that the Dragons are mindless, bent on one thing. They don’t have a war council, they just consume. They are mindless, which is exactly why I think they are being controlled by someone with a mind.

the only way i would accept actual Cantha showing up in GW2… is that i could swim there with my character on the current maps. one of the most HATED things about GW1 was “taking the boat” to switch maps, and then go to wherever you wanted to go on the new continent.

You already had to take a boat to Southsun Cove the first few times (until WPs) – and I suspect if either Cantha/Elona get introduced, the same will apply. Either a ship from LA or just WPing there once you’ve discovered it.

Zephyrites didn’t mean Cantha or Elona got re-introduced, it only explained their origin as being of Canthan or Elonian descent – same way you get to choose that yourself when Logan asks you early in the human personal story (whatever that question means because it certainly doesn’t seem to have any effect).

As for why there’s no response from Anet in here, whenever an Anet employee gets the urge to write an “official” response in here to console us in our yearning for Cantha, Colin pops up behind their back…

That would indicate that they are working on Cantha then if he really does that lol.

I don’t want to let this thread die either! Factions was the game that got me hooked into Guildwars 1. I always found Tyria incredibly boring and depressing (both in Prophesies and EOTN). I did love Nightfall (my 2nd favorite) but my 1st favorite is Factions because of one reason; the Kurzick/Luxon fued. Never before that point had I encountered such a political atmosphere in a video game with alliances/sabatages/betrayals. It was so much fun and I miss the political aspect of Factions in gw2. I WANT THERE TO BE POLITICAL BETRAYALS, ALLIANCES, AND PLACES FOR GUILDS/ALLIANCES TO COMPETE WITH ONE ANOTHER OVER! I WANT CITIES TO CONTROL AGAIN (OR SOMETHING!)!!!

I think it would be awesome if we find out Scarlet is simply the “hand” of some, more powerful being. Maybe she herself was a terror set loose on the world to distract us from Dragon slaying? If that is the case, this could be all about buying the Dragons more time.

Or… my dream could come true and Scarlet could be controlled by Abaddon (who I WILL NEVER BELIEVE IS TRULY DEAD) just like the Elder Dragons are MUWHAHAHAHAHAA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Brother Dulfite.5793

Infamous that is an interesting idea about the Elder Dragon potentially being replaced. Along those lines, we could also consider the possibility that Scarlet may be someone who is rising to become the replacement Elder Dragon. The problem with this logic is that at some point Guildwars 2’s story will end (hopefully being replaced by Guildwars 3 someday…?) so if we keep going through dragons, only for them to be replaced, we won’t ever be able to destroy them all. The only way this could work is if we realize the dragons can be forced to rest or we can change how they act.

The most powerful beings?

Brother Dulfite.5793

I want to have a discussion as to what people think are generally the most powerful beings in the Guild Wars universe. We have the Norn spirits, which can be apparently destroyed (owl). The eternal alchemy obviously is nothing tangibly powerful. The mother Tree and the dream are only powerful enough to produce beings to serve it (Sylvari) and were created themselves in the last couple hundred years. The Charr don’t have any gods. Some of the lesser races have pretty powerful beings, but none of them are eternal seeming.

That leaves the Elder Dragons, the 6 gods, and the Giganticus Lupicus.

We know the Elder Dragons can be destroyed (we already killed one, meaning the others can be killed as well).

The gods (if Abaddon truly is dead) can apparently be destroyed as well. However, the interesting thing here is that when one dies, someone must take his/her place (Kormir’s ascension from gw1). Why is that? What system made it so there had to be 6 gods at all times? The gods would seem to be the most powerful because of a couple things:

1. They came from the Mist and the other beings seem to have originated in the tangible world.
2. The position of the gods has to be maintained (again, Kormir had to ascend after Abaddon died) whereas the spirits/elder dragons that have died don’t need to be replaced; this shows that the positions of the gods are of higher importance than that of the other powerful beings.
3. The gods stewarded the humans, who in turn were able to destroy an elder dragon. Granted, they destroyed one in great numbers (but the elder dragon arguably had an even greater army and yet we still won). It also took a lot of humans (with the aid of the gods) to destroy one of the gods. This implies the gods are far more powerful than humans, who were (with the aid of other races) able to destroy an elder dragon so far.

The Giganticus Lupicus could potentially have been the most powerful, but we may not ever know. It says they went extinct around the time of the original rise of the Elder Dragons, but that doesn’t necessarily mean they fought and lost against the elder dragons. There could have been a giant meteorite that killed them, or maybe they went into some hibernation as well and some of them died (hence the skeletons) and one of them had his flesh preserved by Zhaitan. This is the one race of powerful beings that we don’t fully understand I suppose.

So, in conclusion it seems pretty obvious to me that the 6 gods are the most powerful beings that we have encountered so far. They just so happen to also be the most lazy ones. Either that or they are busy working on another problem that hasn’t even been revealed yet. I’m hoping for the latter.

I’m sure they are working on this as they said a long long time ago that they would have these sorts of things post launch. Obviously it isn’t perfected yet, and it could even be introduced in the first expansion. Speaking of which, isn’t it about time we started speculating on gw2 first expansion? It’s been long enough that they must at least be a good ways into development.

Guild Wars 2: Factions

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Guildwars: Factions introduced something very unique that appealed to a very specific, yet growing, group of gamers (including myself). It introduced town controlling and ways to obtain better towns to own/lose towns that you own. It was competitive, it introduced politics the likes of which I have never witnessed in an mmo (outside of EVE Online), it made doing boring things (FFF, HFF, MTSC, JQSC, etc) a WHOLE lot of fun because everyone was working towards something and crushing rival alliances. It encouraged people to actually communicate on ventrilo and get to know one another (because that’s what made doing the mindless task of FFF so much fun; getting to know people).

The reason I bring this up is because I don’t feel satisfied with Guild Wars 2 when it comes to this topic. Gw2 is a fantastic game (love the story, graphical style, dungeons, wvw, the pvp sounds awesome) but the thing that made me love gw1 so much was Faction and the competitive and political world it created. Politics in gw2 consist of war strategies over what guilds are going to attack on which battleground. Areas are captured and captured so frequently it makes aquiring them in the first place seem trivial. I was hoping that holding these points would be the new “city controlling” aspect for gw2, but it hasn’t turned into it because of how quickly things are done.

Again, I have no problem with wvw but I just want some kind of city controlling/guild centered/politically minded focus aspect introduced into this game (maybe in it’s first expansion).

Keeps/Camps/Towers/Garrison = Faction Towns

in WvW

Posted by: Brother Dulfite.5793

Brother Dulfite.5793

Hello, Brother Dulfite here from JQ server (Gw1 vet since Factions first came out). One of the reasons that I loved the original guild wars was because of the Factions towns that alliances could control. That could get their guild name on the map and many of us obsessed over finding all the ways to increase our guild/alliances faction in order to get a better town. Was there a huge reward for this? Not really, unless you consider fireworks a huge reward or in the REALLY early days getting exclusive access to elite missions.

I think many of us did it because in gw1 having a guild name on a town was, I guess, seen as a big deal and we didn’t really have a comprehension of any big reward beyond that. I assumed that in gw2, they would take this to the next level in world v world. And while I love wvw for the battles, serverwide strategy, buffs, and the ability to claim keeps and towers and what not, I have two major issues with it. One is easier to resolve, so I’ll say that one first:

1. Guild names should be listed on the map next to the icon of the place they control for a number of reasons:
A ) Just like in Guild Wars 1, it’s fun getting to have your name on the map as a guild.
B ) It allows players to see familiarity and know what guilds are active in wvw so they know who to try to join. This prevents players from joining worthless guilds that don’t utilize them in the most effective way.
C) It allows for servers to identify whether or not guilds are fulfilling their obligatory control of certain areas for the time period of that servers agreement.
D) It makes guild members figure out where to go quicker if their guild is in charge of defending/capturing some place.
E) It helps guild members know whether or not their guild owns a place for sure on that map, so that they don’t accidentally claim a camp when they control something better.

2. Something needs to be done to make it so that buildings aren’t taken so quickly from other sides. In my opinion (and I could understand people disagreeing with me on this), it is more fun when guilds can own a place for a while and not lose it easily. The other day a group of us on JQ server steamrolled and took a garrison that had I think literally between 0-5 people in it to defend it. Some ways to accomplish this could be:

A ) Figure out ways to spread people out more and have less zergs (maybe more capturing points for mid ranged/small guilds?)
B ) Allow NPC’s to use arrow carts/boiling oil/etc (I’ve heard that a dungeon already has something like this so it’s possible at least to a degree).
C) Make supply caravans twice as productive once they get to the place (it takes too long to get supplies to upgrade and next thing ya know 5 people can take a keep because its not fortified, dumb).
D) Have a ranking system where the amount of time a guild holds each different place on each of the 4 maps can add up. Essentially having a server/Game wide achievement tracker (let’s say insert random guild name has controlled insert captured location for a total of 127 hours, ranking 22nd amongst all guilds). I think this would be a lot of fun to do and highly motivate guilds to actually focus on HOLDING what they capture instead of just moving on in some massive, lag fest, zerg force.

I think that Nintendo’s idea with Mii-verse is rather brilliant and improving (can’t wait for it to be on my 3ds). The idea that you can post a question on specific games or more generic topics and then have people interested in those topics reply quickly is awesome. Think about how you could implement this in gw2 with all the specific aspects of the game (dungeons, map completion, tips on so many other things, etc). It would make people have to leave the game less for answers and just be able to find the answers in an in-game feature that is similar to facebook and mii-verse.

Hey peeps, haven’t posted on the forum before but I’ve recently become a fan of using my greatsword for dungeons and I’ve come across something rather annoying. In TA explorer mode when I do my regular runs for TA armor, I try to run past the dogs and big dudes with the rest of the group and often I need to use leap of faith but so many times it auto selects an enemy, often which are behind me or to the sides, which gets me killed in this dungeon. As anyone knows who is used to doing TA in explorer mode, running through the mobs is a requirement for most experienced groups and this useful skill often gets me killed because of the auto target that happens for some reason. Thoughts people?
