Simple fix, remove division crossing achievement. Up the days played, kills and wins with class, wins in a day, points and overall wins achievements. I will bet a lot of the QQ threads would disappear. As talking to friends guild members and randoms in HoTM, people really stress about this one. If I only get to ruby this season, I have to get to ruby next as well, I didn’t play much during season 1 and only got Hal way through emerald. If I had know how much of a pain this one achievement would be, I would have played alot more. Once I have my back item I can’t see me really trying for the next. I’m not going to stress my self out for a year trying to get enough crossings for the next item.

I think the biggest problem with GW2 pvp isn’t the matchmaking, but the skill level needed to be a good player. Most would think that as long as you can win fights you’re good, but in pvp that’s not the case. It’s all about rotations and that isn’t very intuitive. In wvw you have commanders to direct people, in pve it’s not really needed, and in raids there s pre-planning. Pvp has none of those elements. You have to trust that you teammates know where they need to be and when or the whole team suffers. I don’t believe complaining about matchmakng is going to help anything.

ANet need, and I mean need to make a PvP tutorial to show people the importance of the following,

Calling target.
Stomping.
Rotation.

If you have commonsense you should be able to work out the rest.

This is a real beauty. But there really is a lot of poor play where rotation is concerned. We had one match the other night where we won our first mid fight, and were fairly well ahead. I ping close because I saw enemy heading there (as ele I stayed mid), then EVERY single person we had in mid, except me, went close. I said, “don’t all go close, please”… nothing. I was then 4 man-ganked mid, with them too slow to respond and we lost mid.

We then went on to lose the match because 2 guards were glued to each other and wherever one went, the other followed, no matter what. This kind of play really really annoys me.

@SolarDragon is also bang on about thieves. Another match we had a thief perpetually went far, nowhere else, far. He died over and over and over again and STILL went far and we tried to tell him to rotate and keep an eye close, help mid as and when opportunity arose, maybe steal boss and at the end he said “you all talked too much”.

I love when there are thieves like this on the other team, my warrior eats them everytime.

To be honest, I find more success playing with a premade team vs premade teams. Even though its harder my win rate is a lot better. Currently ranked in top 10 “Chyna Numba One” Last season I solo qued all the way to tier 7 Diamond and that was the most frustrating experience ever. I would suggest getting a team and practicing with them. but that’s my opinion.

Getting a team is a hood thing, I’ve been lucky to find 3 other people who play at the random times I do. We have won far more matches than we have lost.

Nice post. To bad that most players who read the forums already knows this.

I’ve been in matches with people who post here, one even told me nice personal score when I was telling him to stop going far and help us hold mid. He even had the cheek to say he was carrying the team. At the end of it he only had ten points more than the rest of the team. It was a close match that we lost, but if he had helped at middle instead of going far and getting killed before he could cap it, we probably could have won.

i would go for this. But be prepared for more ranting on forum. So in perspective of ANET i wouldn’t do this as they have to keep the majority happy not the minority.

They changed the match making after season 1 because the “pro” players complained. I don’t see how that was keeping everyone happy. As far as PvP is concerned, ANet only wants the “pro” mentality group of players happy. Everyone else can hang. That’s the feeling I get from them as far as PvP is concerned.

if ANet really only cared about “pro” players, we would have a balanced meta and proper ranked system, I can assure you. Thing is, Anet wants everyone to be able to get their wings, and so the system allows it.

Not quite, if the system where to allow anyone to get there wings, there would be no division crossing achievement needed for them. I thought I was going to be done this season with the wings, but nope, I’ll have to play next season and get to ruby if I want my wings.

In all honesty I feel that one achievement causes the most salt.

They do care about there “pro” players, there wouldn’t be a prize fund if they didn’t. The only time they change anything to do with PvP is when the “pros” complain, see season 1. “pro” makes a QQ you tube video about after 8 hours he’s only in emerald. ANet change it to the way it is now. Even though a lot of people think the pip system is a joke.

I feel your pain OP, last season I was where you are, not quite 18 game losing streaks, but I would spend days on a win one lose one merry go round. Fairing much better this season. Played something like 80 games, I’m T3 sapphire. One win away from T4. Been having some nice small win streaks, nothing mega, normally between 5-7 games. What you need to do is take a breath. Have a look at your play style. Could you change something, could you try and organise your team before the start of the match, normally having a plan and people knowing where they are going from the get go wins a match. Worst thing in the world is when no one says anything and people go where they want and try e game is lost before its began.

Ok. Here is the problem.

Is a Legendary Weapon/Item, a sign of prestige, or is it a functional advantage?

If it’s a sign of prestige, it does not need any changes, It’s already got a huge larger then life graphic, and feet effects that scream “look at me”

If it’s functional, it needs to be made a heck of a lot less grind, to make it accessible for the population, who will need this stupid item to stay competitive.

Solid points IMO.

If only everything that had any sort of functional advantage was easily accessible to the population. I’m looking at you Permanent Bank Access Contract, Permanent black lion merchant contract, and permanent trading post express contract. However, the above isn’t really my point.

There is no functional advantage to having an instant bank access. You are still as limited as anyone else with what you can put in it, and take from it.

I agree with the OP mainly because there has been so much work put into the game to try to increase build diversity without taking rune/sigil/stat swapping into consideration. They added viper stats, commander stats, changed how conditions work etc. Before it was just berserker. Now for chrono you need some commanders for raids, some assassins for fractals, and a different set for WvW. Thats 3 different sets of ascended armor if you want to be optimal for one class. Then if you want to play ele you have to use scholar runes instead of chrono runes and for Necro you need Viper armor with Thorn runes. Before, it was never like this. Times have changed. If an encounter requires different stats, then people will expect you to have them by switching armor sets. This will happen regardless of weather or not legendary armor or weapons has sigil/rune switching. To me, the ability to swap runes/sigils so I don’t have to carry multiple sets of armor alone would be a nice little perk for spending so much money on skins that are now even starting to look phased out by many of the black lion skins.

With that put out, Legendary Weapons were never meant to provide a functional advantage, they were meant to be purely for show.

As such, I stand by what I first said:

Either it is a mark of Prestige, in which case it serves it’s purpose just fine as it is. a Lot of work to make, to stop others from doing it, so those with it, can brag they have it.

Or

It Provides a Functional Advantage (or needed Function) and thus should be made reasonably available to the masses.

This.

Especially this when the functional advantage brings with it a huge economic advantage. Otherwise buy some spare sigils and every time you change stats exchange the sigils aswell.

Legendary weapons are ment as prestige only and longterm goals (thus no extra functionallity needed while costing a high price). Stop trying to make them “must-have” or “need to have”.

instead of cluttering up the legendary specific ui piece, how about “separating” sigils from weapons so that you can pick each independently of the other.

then you can make a “legendary sigil” which is extremely expensive and can provide a sink for all the crap sigils but allows switching at will, where normally slotting a nonlegendary sigil could overwrite whats already there.

(make the legendary sigil/rune require a new item crafted from any superior sigils/runes similar to how amalgamated gemstones are crafted from orbs and then used in HoT legendaries)

This is actually a solution which is more in line with benefitting every player instead of the select few. Would need to get counterbalanced economically but at least this way legendarys are not made even more unequal compared to ascended items. Thus not turning legendarys as much into a “need to have” gear tier.

You are wrong. They already offer a significant functional advantage in the form of stat swapping. The sigil update is only logical to happen.

go look up why the stat swap is there in the first place.

I’ll just tell you. Way back when legendary weapons where exotic, and with set stats. So if you wanted a stat and a legendary skin that did not have said stat, you had to transmute the skin on to the desired stat weapon. People felt this was a bit unfair. They had spent a lot of time and gold on making the legendary, only to then have to make another weapon if they wanted a different stat. ANet agreed, they felt you should only have to make a legendary weapon once. and when Ascended weapons came out Legendry’s where changed(It might have been a little before, but you get my point) keeping to there promise of not needing to ever make a legendary again, ANet made it so you could swap the stats on them at anytime, as long as you where not in combat.

So there is nothing logical to happen at all.

Like I said, I don’t think people change stats on there legendary weapons all that much, If you are going to swap sigils, your not going to do it just to “test” something out.

ANet need to get payed, you do not need a fair gem to gold ratio.

I think this would be the case if we just used gems for cosmetic items. Unfortunately, though, it costs gems to buy bag slots and those are not even shared across characters.

We really need some improvement to the way character bag slots work, as they are currently unaffordable to anyone who has even a slight interest in trying several characters.

You do not need any of those things, they are just QoL features. Sure they are nice to have, but you don’t need them.

"Key" chains

I was looking for a place to suggest a “Key” chain, where all the keys gathered in various places via regular play fractals dungeons etc… such as nightmare keys aether keys machetes chak acids anything that opens chests etc…. be collected much like the various currencies in game are.. in a separate place from inventory bags slots… and making this available account wide just as currencies are now. it would free up bag slots ( especially for those of us using shared slots for our characters to all use the gathered keys )… Anyhow it was suggested I posted here in forums to get other peoples opinions on this idea.
I think this would greatly improve the shared slot use as well for other items like magic brooms and carpets where all our characters could have access to those as well… (perhaps even possibly making rides like that available in a shared account wide capacity without extra slots used….) anyhow pipe in your ideas on this and maybe we can get ANET to make such changes for the keys at least :-)

Its been asked for, ANet has said in a AMA on reditt that one is not on the cards for the time being.

Go fight naked without taking any damage in raids please. You have your competitive scene already.

Or go into any of the new maps and finish solo all the events.

why would anyone do this? Like saying go play wow w/your feet or do it blindfolded, its just dumb, how bout they make the game hard and make achievements and rewards mean something, even when playing at maximum potential it should be hard thus encouraging you to get the best gear play the best so that you can overcome the content, instead everyone wants afk #1 spam.

You don’t get the point of a game at all do you. You can make a game as easy or as hard as you like. The only person making a game unchallenging is your self, you have the options to change your build to a non meta, use weapons people don’t normally do. Do use exotic gear, use blue or white.

Why would people do this? To make the game harder, to have a challenge.

I leveled a warrior to 80, and I only used the weapons/armor that dropped for me or that are story rewards, and only Hammer/ mace shield. It was great fun. Playing something other than zurker GS warrior.

Try it you might like it.

Guild Wars LA was amazing. I still love just walking around there when I play GW. LA in GW2 was not to my liking at all. I hated it, I was so happy to see it burn. The new LA is nice, but it will never take the place of GW LA.

The second screen cap was a close game. But I do agree that the pip system is not showing “skill” at all. It’s showing who can grind out wins. What we need is a score system that places people by games played/win/loss. Then people will find out how good they really are.

MMR is more than that. You have more “points” if you beat a good team and less point if you beat a bad team.

So, someone with a win ratio of 55% can have a better MMR than one with 80%. Because the first is always fighting versus top teams, while the latter got smurf in his team and most of theirs fights is versus bad players.

This was in game into 2013-2014… not sure why we regressed so much with our “ranked” competitive play.

That’s why I said games played, I could play 10 games and win 8. Someone could play 20 games and win 8. Better players will have more wins vs loss, sure some players will get “carried” but that is the nature of solo queue. Where as a team as that’s how the league is supposed to be played, because ESports, good teams will beat bad, get more wins vs loss.

People have 2 choices, accept that with out a team they are at the mercy of MM not to land them with the brain-dead out there, or that maybe they just are not as good as they think they are. The pip system is a bad one plain and simple. No other league in the world works on such a system, no real sport anyway.

Well… The fact you think it’s not going to happen doesn’t mean it won’t, you know…

As for the economy, if sigils are unlocked on a per weapon basis, not only it wouldn’t lower their price since you’d still have to buy them, but it would even be very likely to slightly increase it as players would buy more for the same weapon (as opposed to “buy one and sit on it” we have now).

Yeah, math, 1+1, etc…

The denial is strong in this one.

But this has been discussed on and off since HoT launched. With new legendary weapons scraped until ANet has time to start them back up again, do jot expect anything to happen on the legendary front after the armor.

ANet are busy trying to get players back in the game. Expect at least until the end of the year for them to be focused on player retention, and ESports.

League suggestion

Best way to make leagues better ? Implement tier and division drops in all division except Amber . Split soloq from team q.

20 min queue on Ruby

It surprises me none here has the idea that most colleges and universities are midst exams right now.

Even on peak hours the queue’s are quite “long”.

Exams are not the reason number are down. Sure they probably factor in, but the main reason numbers are own is simple. Most have there wings. Once I have finished the achievements for the last gift, I can’t see me playing another league season. The PIP system is just bad.

Exam is a huge factor. Real PvP’ers don’t care about achievements and what not, so I don’t count them into the PvP community.

Half of my ‘PvP only’ guild has exams, many of the ESL scene has exams, many ppl in my friendlist and wvw parties have exams.

Both are a desert atm.
And the pip system is just fine.

SoloQ’ing remains a hell but that’s the same for the last 1.5 year already.

Get a team, problem solved.

Funny, my guild, no one has exams, everyone is online. Getting a team is not that easy. you need 5 people all to be online at the same time and all be of the same skill level. Not everyone plays at the same time, People do have other things to do. The pip system is not fine. It revolves around luck as much as skill. we could both play 50 games, and could both win 25 games, but have very different pip scores. as far as MMR is concerned we are the same skill level. The PIP system says we are not.

But keep fooling your self.

I don’t understand what is everyone complaining? This is team based PvP. So you should get a team. And then get on TS or something if you think that is going to solve the problem. DuoQ against 5 soloQs? So? You can win those. Only thing is 4 member premade against full soloQ players. Those should get same rule than full premade that enemy had to have atleast duoQ against them. Because most 4 member teams have TS and have played together before.

TrioQ against duoQ and other players being soloQ is fair.

This is GUILD WARS. Change game if you like to play 1v1.

And divisions means nothing when you compare skills. Ofc the thing that new players get average MMR is unfair. They should get average MMR of Amber division players and it would go up fast if they are good.

But fact that T6 Ruby gets diamond players in enemy team means that you have to win those players to prove that you are as good or better than those already in diamond. No point letting you to diamond if you lose to those players all the time.

Not everyone has the time or inclination to do so. If we are meant to play as a premade team, then ANet needs to make the league that way.

It surprises me none here has the idea that most colleges and universities are midst exams right now.

Even on peak hours the queue’s are quite “long”.

Exams are not the reason number are down. Sure they probably factor in, but the main reason numbers are own is simple. Most have there wings. Once I have finished the achievements for the last gift, I can’t see me playing another league season. The PIP system is just bad.

July 12th. It’s right after this season of pvp ends, on a Tuesday. A couple weeks after the 3rd raid wing. It makes the most sense. And it’s exactly 3 months from the last update isn’kitten

My biggest concern is about Living Story. I mean, what will this patch contain if not the living story?

Hopefully some exciting changes for Guild Halls and scribing again, along with something to do that doesn’t leave me bored and filling up our Guild Hall with basic shrubs!

Would be nice to get a teaser or something, a blog post of some things to expect. But I’m assuming their last update went well with no communication so they likely won’t do anything this time around either.

Seems we’re close enough that some of it would be finished enough to mention.

I don’t know what Arenanet’s strategy is against other mmo’s, but I’m wondering if they aren’t going to try to push somekind of major content off until Legion releases to compete. I know Blizzard did that frequently back when they actually cared about their game. Haven’t played Guild Wars long enough to know their trends yet.

If we hear anything about it, it will be after the raid wing, they’ll want to hype that up first.

But why would anet care about the price or the steadiness of the supply? And by supply you mean made available for purchase on the TP of course because as we saw with mystic coins there is a decent supply but people were just hoarding them.

You’d have to ask the economist they employ that question.

It’s simple really. Crystal supply is very small. So keeping it to one a day stops the supply being drained in a single day. There’s something like 3-4 nodes in the game including the home instance one if you have it.

That’s not really a good reason since you can argue that the number of nodes are small because it’s time gated and too many nodes would swamp the market. ANets control the number of nodes. They can have as many as they wish and add them if they wanted to remove the once a day crafting.

That is true, but at the time of there introduction it was raining crystals, people had more than they could use. Demand fizzled out. Then other gear was.introduced to make them relevant again, but the only source was the home instance. So ANet added the nodes to dry top with the introduction of said new gear. To keep a steady supply, but not swamp the market. This way they keep there price, but at the same time make them an item not worth flipping dew to the one a day nature of them.

I’m all for the idea, but would you be able to do any achievements while you’re there? The ones that don’t relate to killing bosses, like the one where you find the badges of the fallen soldiers?

I’m leaning more to no. I do feel if you want the AP, you need to do the raids.

Season 4 will be so dead when fodder who want wings leave for other thing. So Esportmen will play among themselves. Just as they ask.

I wish they had a solo form map with no raid bosses. Just normal mobs and the NPCs that you could speak to.

I’d settle for a way to just tick a box and you go in after it’s been “cleared” by the troops and your just there for “reports”

Quarterly means every three months or so. We got one in January, one three months later in April, so it seems reasonable to expect the next one in July (three months after April). They don’t have to wait for the anniversary. Heck, last year’s anniversary didn’t have much happen to mark it.

Yeah there’s more of a fuss in GW1 about the launch date of GW2.

Raid Wing 3 will be out this month, more than likely.

According to there face book page wing 3 is out next week.

But after 8 must months of no story or non raid PvE content, it had better be epic.

Ranged weapons. That’s what you need OP. Keep the mobs as far from you as possible. Once you learn there tells, melee combat will be easy. I played through as a warrior first, it was a hard slog. My Guard has a bit of a more easy time of it. My ranger just face rolled her way through. Rev was a cake walk. The more you play the easier it will get. Now my warrior can melee his way through all fights.

What games did you play in the 80’s with save points? At best we got save codes. When you started a game back then, you where in it till you finished it, or ran out of lives.

I played Final Fantasy 1 and Phantasy Star 1 on Wii Virtual Console and those have saves. They’re too hard even with them though in FF1 the wizards keep killing me while in Phantasy Star the sea monsters near the eastern cave at the beginning literally one shot me. I’d hate to see how Street Fighter 1 was if even the RPGs are like that.

Console cartridges were mostly read-only: there was no save (but there were cheat / save codes sometimes as Agemnon said). There were a few exception though: some games, including FF1, were shipped with a battery integrated to the cartridge that allowed game saves (pretty much like your BIOS saves data). However, it was more the exception than the rule, and most of us who were born in the late 70s / early 80s can’t even remember them.

The only game I remember playing with save codes was Punch out on the NES. Did Alex the Kid in Miracle World on the Master System 1/2 have them as well? Or am I remembering it wrong.

Most of the games I played didn’t have save codes. The good old days for trying to finish Alterbeast, Golden Axe Streets of Rage before you ran out of lives and continues….. No that was when games took skill.

Nope, I don’t like the travel toys all that much, they are ok to use out of a box of fun while you wait in PvP or what ever, but as for paying money/gold for one, personally I consider it a waste of both.

What bothers me about the post-release maps

I had been trying to figure out what was so annoying to me about the newer maps, and it finally dawned on me: the EXTREME paucity of waypoints. On the initial maps, even if you die, it’s not too bad because there is a good distribution of waypoints to work with. But on the newer maps, the waypoints are few, far between, and especially on the LW2 and HOT maps, hard to get to in the first place for initial activation. The worst offender is the Silverwastes: It has 3 waypoints for the whole map, only 1 of which is easy to reach, 1 of which is in a useless location, and 2 of which require getting through very difficult areas where you are very likely to die due to the volume of enemies to activate in the first place. So for 99% of the time you spend on the map, if you die your only option is to start all over at the entry point.

Maps need waypoints. They are what keep the game from being excessively annoying to play. They exact a toll for death but keep it from being too excessive. The newer maps ignore this, taking the worst lessons from save points in console games. This does not make the game challenging, it just makes it annoying because you end up playing the same parts over and over, punished for not executing everything with perfect precision or for being unable to gather an organized group at any point.

Put in more waypoints. Give all the maps the kind of coverage the original maps had. Difficulty is fine, but difficulty by forced repetition is not.

Orr says hello.

Most way points in Orr are contested more often than not. As for Hot Maps now they only become contested when an event is active on top of them. Also when you have masteries, the HoT maps are easy and quick to get around.

XP boosters, food and utilities, watch the XP roll in. Do the meta, do map completion, the xp will roll in. Things are only as “grindy” as you make it.
