There are a few possible reasons for this but one of them is version control. Lets say version 1 of the code has the bug. Two programmers A and B take version 1 and work on it. Version 1A is put back into live system with the bug fixed. Version 1B goes back into the live system later and it does not have the bug fix since it was not derived from 1A. It sounds stupid in a way but it is an ever present challenge in computing, especially in complex developments.

I believe every “bigger” software develpoment requires a version control system/program, with a VCS it should go as after 1A was “put back”, when developer B want to “put 1B back”, he get a “warning” that he must merge 1A with his 1B (automated or by hand), but it will never overwrite the older progress (only if Dev B want to overwrite it as his solution fix something in 1A somehow).
I have used VCS for my own little projects (mostly to gain some experience), but as I was not more hundred dev, I can’t imagine the problem on that scale.

But I don’t have an answer for The Return of Bug, and I believe that only Anet devs could answer this question.. and probably will not ^^

So they shut down that server and the exact same thing will happen with the new number 1 server.

It is however fully possible for you and your group to move to a lower ranked server if you want more even matches.

The thread is about “shutting down” the TRANSFERS to ‘that’ server, they can make an automated system which disable transferring to the Glicko-NR1 server, refreshed at every reset.
(Its not that hard to make, I believe they have the glicko-ranks, server-based transfer class with different amount of gems, its easy to increase it to 9999, which is almost the same as disabling it But I think that one more boolean variable for this purpose is almost the same difficulty. )

And I agree with xGraver, it’s a good idea (as servers are now only for WvW).

I mean you have the red icon, in pve it would mean that some of your armor pieces are not counting towards the stats, dunno about sPvP. But it’s still a bug imo ^^

I was thinking of flipping the script. Make it so the boss is Vulenerable to CC for X seconds after Deviance is broken then deviance returns as normal. If you break deviance early, it could really screw up a group trying to interupt a key skill or push the boss into a certain area.

It all comes down to the question of what do you want to achieve.
Shutting down the boss for X seconds or rupting the boss every X seconds.. As a bigger group has enough rupt to achieve it if the game mechanics allow it.

All I can say on this is we have been talking about it internally and trying to come up with different solutions that make CC valuable without allowing players to “stun lock” creatures (which would be a very real problem if we did not have Defiance). I can’t say any more on that at this time, so here’s a better question for you:

If we removed Defiance, how would you propose a replacement that makes CC (interrupts, stuns, fears etc) valuable without creating a situation that allows players to CC a creature to death.

I think the “easiest” solution would be to get immunity to CC for the next X seconds after you got CC’d (would be nice for players too, but meh.. ), so you can’t chain CC but can rupt the important ones.
Actually as the boss get immunity to CC for a few seconds, if someone timed the CC wrong, the boss’ important skill cannot be rupted, which makes it a bit harder maybe but imo still better than the defiance we have now.

The Fake-log in issue is the same for me, BUT I’m using “normal net” (not mobile one) with a not-common browser (Palemoon, a Firefox-child) and I can log in only after switching back to Firefox (or remembering the network). Interesting “bug”.
I understand that they can’t test and support every browser, it’s not a big problem for me, but it’s a weird bug.
Maybe you can test it with another mobile-browser?

Although I did not watched that stream, I heard that a dev explained why it is a great tactic to go fast for SM at reset (I believe it is not, as your towers will upgrade slower this way) and was playing a hambow warrior in a zerg/blob/whatever.
Maybe it’s just a bad rumor, but I can imagine that it’s true.

And AFAIK Kodasch (EU) has 2-3 Devs.

AFAIK, dolyaks don’t give reward for defeding the caravan because of easy botting, so any kind of currency related to it is risky

I should give you lessons how to come up with creative names.

And that’s the reason why I think that Acc-bound rewards would be a fair trade. Even if Anet can’t ban the farmers (others says that they did a good job in pve with bots, I’m not playing there so idk.. and botting on the TP is better anyway), if all you can buy is things for your everyday wvw, or things from which you need like 10, I don’t think it’ll cause massive-bot invasion to wvw or would drastically damage the economy. And ofc “buying” upgrades are not generating any money, just saves you some.

I know that I’m not creative, but as the dolly-escort rewards were farmed by bots, I just couldn’t resist to name this way ^^
(My original plan was to give the BoH name to this one and rename the old Badge of Honor to Badge of Karmatrain, as farming npc’s in EotM gives you no Honor in any way, but I believe Anet don’t wanna hurt the eotm-farmers. )

No, I could care less about being an achievement hunter. The tourney rewards are fine to me. The rewards for taking keeps are good to me. The rewards for killing enemies is solid to me.

Why would destroying a door (or even wall for that matter, only it no longer exist), without siege be a problem? You really thing characters with large hammers, torch’s, bombs, grenades, rifles, and so on shouldn’t be capable to chip away at a band iron door or brick and mortar walls? No, not broken by any stretch of the imagination.

If you die easier when on the walls, then your enemies on the ground do, I can speak with confidence when I say that it is a problem with your personal play in that case, and nothing to do with the situation. A properly played defense can hold off and kill 3-4 their number if not more and be perfectly safe defending. If your claiming the situation is broken simply because you, personally cannot survive here, well, perhaps you should stop blaming Anet, and accept some responsibility for your self.

I do not believe you know what AI actually means. Sorry, but you went so all over the place here, that I do not know what to say, I cannot make sense of it.

What “great ideas” ??? We got something that was very specifically requested. You keep speaking in abstracts and concepts and avoid specifics and facts. Lint to me some “great ideas” that have ben mentioned, that were absolutely unanimously considered great, that were not implemented? The problem here, is that you think the ideas that &you* like are great, when they are are arguable even reasonable ideas.

Achievements: I don’t care about the AP points, i care about the title.. who doesn’t wanna be a Yakslapper or Ultimate Chaperone? :P
Rewards: Scouting/Dolly escorting.. you’ll get no rewards, you have to spend money. A lot. And without these jobs wvw become eotm-karma train.

Destroying doors and killing on walls: If a blob can’t destroy a door with AA, then the defense have much more options, a lot more chance. Same with walls, walls should be there to defend the defenders, but I got more “no line of sight” message then the elementalist below me Meteorshowering/AA-ing me.
If it required a ballista/other siege to destroy cannon/oil, they would have a bit more time to be useful. (And havoc teams would have the job of taking the sieges out, which would promote splitting the zerg maybe.)
And no, with a blob pvd-ing the door, you can play as good as want, a good offens with more number than you will get the objective, as they can just hit the gate until its down then killing everyone inside (they’re more, yea!).

AI : “an intelligent agent is a system that perceives its environment and takes actions that maximize its chances of success” (Wikipedia is your friend if you dont know a definition.) I believe that all npc’s in game have an AI, and I did not write npc ’cos the turrets in EOTM are not NPCs, but have an AI (a non-complex one, but its good enough for what it should do. [enemy in range -> shoot] ).

“Great ideas”: Colored commander tags is a great idea, yep. But it’s not nearly enough to be called a big feature patch which comes every 6 months or whatever. It was on the forum since the Beta Weekends. I’m not saying that every of my idea should be implemented. But we get hardly any idea implented that supports WvW.
(And well, f.e. the “gvg-arena”, which not get implemented but asked, was put into OS only ‘cos the Anet-dev quagganed one and everyone quagganed Anet on forums. OS is still not a gvg arena. You can’t fight any guild you want. Trolls still can destroy your gvg. There are still no leaderboards for gvg.)

We can argue with each other for years, I don’t believe we can agree on something. We have different opinions, that’s it.

Screen shot and report them……………I hate siege trolls myself, but I haven’t seen a single intelligent idea to address the issue other then screen shot and reporting them.

The only thing that makes it enjoyable for me is the Combat system, which is the same for PvE/sPvP.

No, your wrong. The siege equipment and mass PvP makes it very fun, neither of which do you truely have in either PvP or PvE.

(Thou I would like a no-AoE-cap system, I can understand that their servers cant handle it. )

It has nothing to do with the servers. It would really be better if you wouldn’t speak upon matters you have know knowledge of. The caps were set at player demands via forums out cry.

I have yet to see a single logical argument that can show WvW as broken in any way. It may have flaws, and be imperfect, but it is not broken by any means.

Reward System: “Kill 1,000,000 enemy supply caravans.” or “Successfully escort 500,000 supply caravans.” is not Broken for you? (I believe when others did the math, they calculated something like 5-7 years for it.)
And I believe that if you have to play another game-mode only to be able to play your favorite, it’s broken. (Without playing pve/spvp, you’ll lose money over the time as in wvw you spend more money than your income. )

Siege system: Don’t you think that killing a door without siege is Broken? Do you think that if its easier to kill ppl on walls than the other way then it’s not Broken? (And we, as a server reported the trolls for months, maybe half a year, nothing happened.. Sorry, I can’t trust Anet’s support for wvw. Now that dev’s had experienced the trolls in wvw [adopt-a-dev], they have a thread about how to fix the problem.)

Combat System: As I said, I enjoy it very much, but besides the fact that you’re supposed to fight against players and not AI’s (which is not really true when pvd-ing), a bigger raid in pve has the same mechanics. You can buff up, you can drop the bomb, you can dodge/avoid/negate the npc’s “bomb”, you can blast Water, drop Banner.. And no, fighting under AC fire is not fun for me. Maybe it’s an understandable situation when defending your objective with LESS ppl, but otherwise it’s not fun for me.

No AoE Cap: Maybe it would be better, maybe worse, but we can decide only if we can try it without lags/culling, which I believe we never had the chance to try. And btw I said that “I would like”, there are ppl who wanna stronger AC/Golems, ‘cos they’re underpowered! :P

Anet just don’t care, the forum has a lot great ideas to fix/make better wvw, “all” we got in this “big Feature Patch” was 3 hexa-number change to the tag [which got Datamined like 3-4 months ago] and some little QoL change we asked for since beta weekends.

Sorry. Just coming on and screaming: It’s Broken! Ermergerd! Without providing details of said “brokeness” just makes any argument you have invalid.

So…again…what do you believe is broken?

Scoring system. (PPT)
Matchmaking/Tournament system. (Heavy dependency on scoring system)
Rewarding system. (Gold’n’Achies)
Siege system. (trolls, balance of sieges)
Squad-commander system-GUI (not really broken, more like non-existent).

The only thing that makes it enjoyable for me is the Combat system, which is the same for PvE/sPvP.

Siege Troll Discussion

New idea:

- remove siege from all loot tables / chests / achievement rewards (unless wvw achievement)
- remove all ways of getting siege besides the siege merchant in wvw and guild siege
- remove the “buy with coins” tab from the wvw siege merchant
- increase the prices in the “buy with badges” tab so only active EOTMers can buy siege

current prices for siege are just laughable, this way anyone can be a troll

We all know that scouting/dolly escorting is one of the most important job, and most of the time gives you a negative profit as you have to upgrade camps, towers, keeps, drop (defensive) sieges. (And now even the supply trap costs gold, too.)

Idea:
New Account bound currency called something like Badge of the Supporter (BotS).

You can get it for successful defensive events and dolly escorting. (Maybe exclude SM, as it’s tagged almost all the time, too easy to “farm” defensive events there. EotM is not a problem as ppl are not defending there.)

You can use these BotS for:

-Purchasing Upgrades in objectives for BotS and not for Gold (with some nice GUI button you can choose).

-Purchasing a new (Acc-bound) Item which can give you back the Rune/Sigil from your WvW-gear but not materials. Even if the Rune/Sigil will get Acc-bound, I believe it’s still a needed Item.

-Maaaaybe you can purchase Acc-bound superior Runes/Sigils for BotS, you can’t sell them but at least you don’t have to pay 30-40-50g for your runes/sigils only. My only problem with it is that I fear they’ll use bots to get BotS and not actively Supporting your server.

-Purchasing Siege is not a good idea as you can sell them, same reason as above.

(I believe someone already posted a similar concept, but I can’t use the build-in search engine on the forum )

Siege Troll Discussion

Perhaps this is not practical but a different / additional approach could be a point system for clearly incorrect behavior. When you take such a behavior, you are notified you are getting a point towards account suspension and a screenshot is automatically stored on the server. After 10 points (or some threshold), your ability to enter WvW with that account is suspended.

What kind of behavior is “clearly incorrect”? Perhaps building seige that is not in range of anything? So rams not near doors (yeah, you get a point to build a ram to finish a downed player…) Trebs or catapults that aren’t in range of anything (maybe there are legitimate anti-zerg uses of these, but probably they could be skipped).

Maybe people just resort to putting down ballistas and AC’s and they get around this. One potential benefit is that if the user is warned before they place the siege, it might avoid new players putting rams down by walls.

My problem with this:
-I used to experiment with “new” (ofc to me) siege spots with trebs/catas, running supply to build it alone.. f.e. before reset, garrison has 1k7 supply, i can build “some” trebs for my experiments without causing any problem, and without the intent of trolling, but some of it may end in a spot outside of “normal” range but f.e. good for destroying defensive sieges.
-Its a valid tactic to build a cata next to your trebs for the Bubble, so you can chain it, but ofc it is not in range.
-Flame Rams are useful for smaller, organized groups for iron-hide when bunkering up against a blob.. rarely used but always fun :P (Try it in Lordroom, fear+iron hide )

And our troll is building ballistas, as the cheapest siege to drain supply.

Because commander tags are fairly common, I recommend adding to this suggestion that might also hit two birds with one stone:

For every person in a Commander’s squad, exhaustion from placing siege is reduced by 1 minute (making it so only a few people in the squad would reduce this exhaustion to zero). Because of this, the natural ‘Exhaustion’ period could be something higher like 10 minutes.

What this will do:

- Promote people following a commander to join their squad (“Join my squad so I can drop siege!”). This habit will make it easier for commanders to check supply as well.
- Exhaustion will affect siege trolls who don’t tag up and also get multiple people to follow them. If they do happen to go to this extreme effort, they will be easily spotted on the map for what they are since they’ll have a tag up.
- Promote legitimate defenders to tag up to drop siege and to create a focal defense point for people to see on the map.

Now I don’t want to give ideas to anyone… but literally any player can join any commander. Even from enemy servers. So this isn’t a solution, the troll would just have a few people join their squad from the other server. Or from the guild.

I believe that fixing ‘that’ is (almost) as hard as the right-click → whisper for enemies or the not-visible commander buff pre-patch.
But commander tags should not be a way to limit siege-usage, as more trolls have commander tag (you know, 300g for a guild is nothing.. they can just buy it for the troll account) than new, but promising scouts who need to build sieges for defense.

Massive Lags and disconnects WvW

SFR-Deso-Kodasch MU, 15 sec laggs (you know, the one you see before DC, everyone running and no skills responding) and random DCs even at 5v5 fights (hell, I almost couldn’t repair the gate ’cos it was not responding..), can Anet roll back their servers to the state they were before reset?

Dear Arenanet, It’s just like this.

There is no hype for upcoming tournament at all.
Maximum 30% of wvw population is hyped for it.

And those who wanted to try AA(Artichoke Age) on start will get that chance and you will loose them to AA, just because nothing fresh they will meet in gw2.

Your game is beautiful.
Combat mechanics are awesome.

I don’t care much because AA looks ugly for me (but i will try it though) but those nerds need more hype at certain points.

If you don’t have some big surprise to balance, guilds, wvw, pvp or anything else you will loose a lot of population.

Easier said than done. Go ahead play 10 team queue tourneys win 50% of them with 3v5 and I will be convinced skill is more important than numbers.

It seems you’re ignoring the other direction and can believe only the spvp thingy.

Go ahead and get 15/20 spvp players to fight a good gvg guild in OS.
Why in OS?
No guard stacks.
No Bloodlust stacks (in every gvg, I believe its a rule to not have any sigil-stacks before the round starts).
No Blood Lust + points (those annoying ruins-thingy ).

Or maybe there are some good gvg guilds who are up to challenge 20-25 spvp player with 15-20 to see if numbers make the difference

Anet, do you think that if we have 2 enemies (or more) in meele range, we need the same amount of Life Force as in 1v1 situations?
Don’t you think that we need (at least) 2x more because they’ll do more dmg to us?

As I understood the patch, the life-force gain will only occur once per skill use, so basically all we got for dagger is more dmg against more enemies in meele-range.
I believe we need to get life-force not per skill use but per enemies hit.

…They have already stated they are refunding everything above 3 tags… Apparently in a big way if I understood it correctly. If you got 4 tags, you dont get a 100g refund – you get 300g! Free option of color they said. Presumably if you got 7 tags, you get another free color. Can anybody confirm that part? I’m guessing that if you dont choose a color but want gold, you only get their 100g worth. I may have completely misunderstood it though.

“Players who have unlocked four or more tags, should contact support. The support then may decide to either grant a refund, or allow the player to choose another color to unlock.”
Sorry, but I don’t trust the support to resolve a WvW related problem fair…

1 Alpha Golem costs 100 badges.
1 Omega Golem costs 5 Alpha Golems (and some Mithril ores, Elder wood logs and skill points).
If you have 5.000 badges, that’s 50 Alphas -> 10 Omegas.
(Do the easy math for bigger numbers )

Do you think that 10 Omegas is a really big number? Nope, it is not. For T3 keeps with WP you can use 10 in 1-2 hours.

So try to use your Badges and give it to your favorite commander/server bank (I believe the wvw-focused servers have some sort of server-bank to help the pug-commanders) and Golemrush everything!
Because Golemrushes are fun!

Ofc you can buy AC/Treb/Ram/Cata/Whatever siege you want, but that’s so boring :P

No, I mean like the flame kissed armor issue and the spvp removal of ranks proposal, which both caused major upsets among the community and both issues were addressed and dealt with to the communitys satisfaction (somewhat).

So you’re saying that Anet did something for PvE (flame kissed armor) and #ESPORT (spvp rank), and you think they’ll do the same for WvW.

[Question] EU servers and WvW status

Nowadays on SFR (T1) in EU prime-time (GMT 19-23) maybe we have 10, max 20 man queue to borderlands (and not for all at the same time, so I can join some borderland without waiting ), Eternal Queue has ofc more.
So I’m not sure if you really can say that its too long.

@Devon: csumpa is right, the sword is not a problem, I’m sure the charrs have some knowledge about “Greek fire” ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greek_fire ) or some similar chemicals.
Or it’s an ancient dragon’s breath, which obviously stronger than water.

I just did a fast test (2 traceroutes) from EU (Hungary), and indeed, Dallas1.Level3.net had some issues (note: the stars next to the ‘ms’).
Ofc they have protection near the target, so my cute “traceroute” packages were tossed away..
But i was pinging the addresses you wrote down, not the ones i get from /IP (I cant play GW from this PC :) )

(And sorry for the weird language on the pics :D )

The end of "hidden" mapjumping?

With this new patch, you can see on which bl are your friends/blocked players playing.
So once you added as friend(or blocked) the enemy commander, you always know on which bl is he.

For me, it was fun to guess on which bl is the enemy force, watching the outnumbered buff and keeps/towers for flipping.. Now its easier to do.

Is it a bug (“exploit”), not tested with players?
